Definitely interested to see the 2 Sonic Boom titles. Considering how hit and miss Sonic Team has been of late, the fresh set of eyes could be interesting.

A most impressive lineup.

I'm pretty keen to see Sonic Boom as well. I'm hoping it turns out nicely.

You haven't been paying attention Mang?

It's basically Sonic Heroes 2 but with more combat.

Boom 3DS is looking promising. 2D exploration like Tails Adventure and Sonic CD with Sonic Rivals races and character switching. Honestly, I'm nore exicted for Boom on 3DS than Wii U.

Yeah the Wii U version lacks a sort of spark or passion in the project that other Sonic titles (Even the lesser ones like Sonic Unleashed) all had, to me it comes across as very by the books and/or massively focus tested. I haven't really been paying much attention to the 3DS version.

Clearly I haven't been paying attention. That's a real shame. Sonic franchise is obviously cursed, even developers other than Sonic Team can't make a good game out of it.

I'll still check out the trailers maybe, it'll either be a nice surprise or a train-wreck I'm guessing.

Sonic Heroes was fun :<
but I don't care about Sonic Boom.  Like the Pac-man cartoon tie-in before that.

The lineup is pretty great.  A nice balance of genres and IPs.  I would be even more interested if half those were localized.

I honestly thing Sonic Boom looks like the biggest pile of shit... Honestly it is the exact opposite of everything I want out of  a Sonic game- or any game. From the Character redesigns to the way they never stop yapping cheesy nonsense... The fact that there is a battle system at all... Literally it's just the worst thing.

It looks like the sonic version of the  Teletubbies to me..still it could be good....

Here's my quick thoughts on Boom:

The cartoon: really looking forward to this, animation looks solid and I think the 11 minute format is a good idea. AoStH and Underground often dragged at the halfway point (okay, Underground dragged at the first minute), so I think shorter will be better. I'm interested to see how big the Boom universe will end up being with the show + the games.

The comic: Again, looking forward to this. The artwork in what we've seen looks good, and it's a fresh universe outside of Archie Sonic which IMO is too big and cluttered and unreadable (even after the reboot). Bonus points for the comic being canon.

The toys: Eh, I'll get the Eggman one with the Eggmobile and not much else. They look like a step sidewats from the Jazwares attempts. Better paint job, worse movement.

3DS: See my previous comment: http://segabits.com/forums/index.php?topic=3186.msg68200#msg68200

Wii U: Looks alright, but I'm not approaching it as the next Sonic game. It's just too different. Looks more like Jax and Daxter with a sprinkling of Sonic Heroes. Nothing has really grabbed me yet, and the camera during the speed stages is really bad from what I've seen. Hopefully my attitude improves once I go hands-on with it (perhaps at Sonic Boom NYC?)

So basically: Print/TV looks great, games look 50/50, toys look decent but I'll pass on them.

Good to hear that the TV show is looking great. Easily the most anticipated medium of that series for me.

When western Journalists are at TGS 2014, they should ask Nagoshi not only about Yakuza, but all things Sega. Journalists should realize he's not only the Yakuza guy, but CCO of Sega.

The werstern situation of all their content, and also their future of console content outside of Yakuza...like, I would like to ask if the CANVAS Engine will ever get used again?

Nagoshi has an aversion to journalists from what i hear..you'd really have to lock him down in a room to get him to answer questions otherwise he won't answer them in the environment of TGS where they are busy presenting titles since they are event and hardly Q/A sessions...

Well EDGE got him once.

I wonder what the new PSO2 developements are supposed to be about.

The new Miku is most likely a PS4 game.

Nagoshi use to write for EDGE so that's not a surprise that he would talk to them or Famitsu...but Famitsu aren't known to be pushy like some western journalists are especially the website journalists...

I used to know one of the translators for the likes of Nagoshi-san . They would say that Nagosh-san is pain and very arrogant and always late for interviews and meeting (if he turns up at all ) and would give the impression that he just couldn't be bothered and it was to much trouble to be called for interview (and make out he was busy in work ) He was meant to also be very rude to SEGA West when they were looking to bring Yakuza Kezan and Yakuza III to the west.

Maybe he's chilled out these days though

It really is an impressive lineup and it would take a Herculean effort to top that next year.

If Nagoshi's purported aversion to journalists is more or less true, I wouldn't be surprised. He often seems less chatty than other japanese industry figures like, Keiji Inafune, Katsuhiro Harada, Yoshinori Ono, Hideo Baba. Sure he still does interviews and some of those names are hard to compete with in publicity but it still seems more closed-off in comparison.

Which beggers the question why SOJ wanted to make him into a superstar developer by amping up the YAKUZA series and giving him his own studio when he doesn't really market himself or make games beyond japan interest.
As for TGS i've seen worse line ups than this one but to be honest Sega hasn't set the world on fire with TGS for nearly a decade. Mainly because there is no surprise announcements....

Am I the only one not impressed by this line up all that much?

Disregarding the fact that nothing will get translated/see the light of day outside glorious nippon...

Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax (PS3, PS Vita) – Poverty fighter.

Hero Bank 2 (3DS) – Children's title? I don't know much about this one.

Phantasy Star Nova (PS Vita) – Nobody owns a Vita.

Phantasy Star Online 2 (PC, PS Vita) – Aren't we still waiting on a translation? Either way I don't into MMOs so maybe I'm bias for not getting excited.

Phantasy Star Online 2 es (iOS, Android) – MOBILE GAMES.

Puyopuyo Tetris (PS4, XBO) – Forgive me for not getting excited for Tetris. Odd that this game is coming to Xbone and PSQuad but RPGs and the like are stuck in MOBILE PHONE land.

Shining Resonance (PS3) – Continuing degeneracy of Shining series.

Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric (Wii U) – Everyone hates it (does it really look that bad? I haven't watched any footage yet)

Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal (3DS) – Everyone hates it, but to a lesser extent.

The World End Eclipse (PC, PS Vita, iOS, Android) – FREE TO PLAY, MOBILE PHONES. It also looks like a NES game or something, I have next to zero interest in this.

Yakuza 0 (PS4, PS3) – The one game that could save Sega's TGS in my eyes, will never be in my filthy non-Japanese hands.

If Phantasy Star Online 2 Episode 3, Phantasy Star Nova and Ryu Ga Gotoku Zero (Plus all the Atlus games) were all being localised it would be a pretty impressive TGS overall.

But it's impressive only for the Japanese, for everyone else it is bitter tears ;_;

These would only be Sony's, I suppose? =P Nothing to expect for Sega folks?

I can understand not being excited to an extent. I still think there are a lot of games being shown but there are some curious absences (Virtua Fighter) and some "returning games" like Puyo Puyo Tetris, PSO2.

I think it's likely one of the Sony Playstation 4 titles is going to be Hatsune Miku. SEGA has been talking about it and it's probably the next step for the franchise.

I think VF will more likely be at something Arcade centric before TGS or another home console based show.

I think we will see something related to the VF soon (They just uploaded all the intros of the games in the official youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/VF20th/videos (https://www.youtube.com/user/VF20th/videos) ) but ,just what Made says, we will see it in another show or similar.

Pretty much my thoughts. There is nothing for me to look forward to considering over half of the games shown won't ever be localized. Maybe they will have some surprises but won't get my hopes up.

Well its either THIS year or next year that we may see an ATLUS/SEGA hybrid game at its early stages...and we all know that Sega has given them freeway on dormant IP that they own. And we also know some of the atlus titles will be published by Sega at least in Europe. So there could be some kinda surprise to do with the company especially since this will be the first proper TGS that a Sega owned Atlus will participate in.

This kinda thing is what Sega has been doing for years in their online RPGs...whether it was characters inhouse or from other companies. The difference is most of them weren't from big name IPs...

the best SEGA game shown at TGS that's going to be released in the west:

Sorry guys, lol! It is developed by AM2 though. SEGA using AM2's talent to work on Miku games.

we western gaijan aren't Japanese enough for Yakuza, but Miku is perfect fit for us though!

Lol. Iizuka was going through all kinds of emotions during the Sonic Toon stream. Then after the SEGA Japan Sonic mascot came out and started dancing he was so happy.

I don't think he hates Americans, he tries to appeal to them all the time with his games. I just think he hates Sonic Boom.

To quote Big Red Button:

Quote
Have the character designs in the upcoming Sonic Boom by Big Red Button Entertainment ruffled your fur and/or quills? It could always be worse. Bob Rafei, CEO of Big Red Button, told GameSpot that early designs were downright "traumatic" for Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka.

"Early on, when we had our first review of all the crazy things we wanted to try, Iizuka-san came down to Los Angeles and looked through all the different concepts," Rafei said. "I felt sorry for the guy because sometimes he couldn't actually look at the screen ... it was too traumatic seeing all the crazy stuff we wanted to do."

I'm not saying he hates americans...but his experience in having an american team involvement haven't led to the best Sonic games. NIGHTS 2, SHADOW to a degree..and SONIC BOOM..still wait and see but it seems to have divided sonic fans from what i can see.

I honestly feel sorry for the guy. I feel like he's probably the unluckiest producer they have. Poor game after poor game, and a lot of it is down to things outside his control.
