That's awesome! Love the expression. I like it so much, I'm gonna feature it in a post tomorrow morning (can't do it just now, as it's valentines day and I have to be going). I've always wanted to do one of these, in a Jet Set Radio style.

I would love to see a series of drawing depicting Sonic as a homeless person. I mean, in the games he doesn't really have a home. He just sort of slums it and runs place to place.

Yeah it's crap, I'll probably stick my videos on youtube eventually... When I have something worth while to show. Currently I'm just testing out the settings and stuff.

Thanks dude!

Not to sound all smug, but I doubt it will be as good. Unless USAopoly got some super Sonic fans on the job. I can't imagine them covering all main series titles or referencing more of the obscure aspects of the franchise. I hope they prove me wrong though!

This is my first proper animation... It's very short and not a lot is animated but I've never even attempted to animate anything before and I've only had the program about 24 hours and I'm still a bit overwhelmed trying to use it.

I imported a picture I did on Coral Painter into my trial version of 'Toon boom animate 2' which is a flash like program dedicated to animation and then I painstakingly drew on each firefly frame by frame. Took a while but I'm happy with my first animation.

Note, as it is the trial version it wont let me import the animation so I filmed it on my videocamera lol... So sorry about the imperfect quality. Do turn it to HD it does clear it up a bit!

Post by: ungibbed on December 17, 2012, 07:20:49 pm: If only I had a way to post an audio file (.mp3), a while back I had made a slight remix of one of my favorite songs from NiGHTS all done in GarageBand on my Mac. A good candidate for a Tuesday tune honestly. A lot of video game music I picked up from memory and tried to make it sound as close to the original and some other times, especially with music from the Ys games over the years.

I seen the Turbografx version on the CD and bought the console and the CD add-on just to play and listen to the music from that game years ago. Huzzah for the Wii Virtual Console as now I can enjoy it anytime but still have the entire soundtrack on my phone / iTunes library.

Back in touch with Sega related games, been experimenting with tunes from Outrun. Still NiGHTS has a special place in my heart. I've never shared any of my music before so I guess I got to get started setting up a spot for my own tunes on bandcamp or upload my track to YouTube.

Not sure if it's 'dead on balls accurate", (a favorite quote from MLWS) but it's close. I had purchased extra instrument packs from Apple just to get the right sounds.

I will get around to it, I love the Saturn and it's oddities and over the years, some kickass music.

If there's enough interest, I will make it happen.

i remember you showed off one of those screens on twitter. I thought the character image was just photoshopped on, but now you got a second screen like that, do you got it programmed to make those images pop up in thin air? pretty neat. maybe you could make a full screen version of it eventually :P

I will get around to it, I love the Saturn and it's oddities and over the years, some kickass music.

If there's enough interest, I will make it happen.

Not sure if you experimented with FamiTracker or not, but I think some SEGA tunes would sound good on that application...would you happen to have any knowledge of it to knock up some NiGHTS or Panzer Dragoon on it? :P

GarageBand on the Mac works in a somewhat similar fashion but with real instrument samples and if you know how to read and write music, it can be applied that way along with sample loops and the ability to add your own audio track via MIDI or line in on the Mac.

It's essentially a poor mans logic pro/studio.

How far you can push it depends on how much power your CPU can muster and a huge amount of RAM. Tried uploading my track onto YouTube earlier but the servers are swamped! I have a 30Mb internet connection and I can't even get video's to stream tonight. Much of the work I did in the past was with a PC, and Cakewalk Pro. Using what was formerly a beast of a computer, my phone now outpaces.

Something sparked a fire in the tower and my data was roasted save for important projects that I backed up to CD-R along with custom soundfonts with the original Sound Blaster Live! audio board.

So without my old rig, I bought my Mac and never looked back.

I will have that track uploaded hopefully tomorrow.

I tried that at first and the link was completely broken aside from the https header. Ended up with a dead end.

On a side note, anyone wanting to hear the song as its really meant to be heard, inbox me nicely with an email address. If you want to use it for a Tuesday tune, go for it. I didn't monitize this video as it's a fan service. This is the first time I've shared any of my raw work online.

Some footnotes: this song is obviously not the original but all done by memory since my Saturn collection was stolen along with this game. The only reference was purely from memory and I considered the editing "complete" back in 2010. This project as seen on the video is the same app with a lot of extra instrument packs from Apple to get that near perfect sound. I could have simply posted the .sac file to YouTube and consider my work done but decided to show the work behind the music. It is very demanding on the computer itself and I have far more complex tracks that I've made.

Being a fan of game music, most of the tracks I've worked on were rearrangements from Yuzo Koshiro and others from the Ys series.

The video I took with my phone is tough to fake as I had not only my logged in profile on the Segabits forums and the editor running the original source project all at once... One very tall tale would be needed to lie about all of it when I think about it.

Might have to Google them up. I have an entire album of various games over the years and a couple more traditional songs that meant a lot to me.

Is this like some last.fm or constant stream I would have to host? Other than music sales via Bandcamp, this is honestly all new to me.

It's a site where they dedicate music from SEGA and probably have a license to do so. Many of the users there seem to be from the UK, but there are Americans who moderate the site.

If you hit one of the mods up with your music and your hobbies, then perhaps you can be a DJ over there? You can play all the music you've created in your podcasts!

They may even give you the unique title "SEGA Musician" if you show them the many mixes you have done....they seem to be lacking a lot of Panzer Dragoon Remixes over there so you would definitely fit in/looked up to if you can make remixes of very obscure SEGA games.

Nice work Will! I find that my best stuff comes when I loosen up and just draw picture after picture. Not too fast, but fast enough to move on to the next one if you don't like it. Tracing helps too, trains your hand to draw accurately.

i know this isn't good by any means, but, i think its a good start. better then what i drew before this.

i have lots of trouble with guidelines, positioning, eye shape, lips, stuff like that. lol

time spent? way too much, i had to keep erasing things again, maybe im too worried about being perfect, but i felt it looked bad if i didn't erase it. I started it earlier today and rage quit, came back to it about an hour or so ago and raged again, but I'm happy enough with it to consider it my drawing of the day.

maybe I need to draw bigger, right now I'm basically drawing in the middle of my 9x12 skechbook not using the whole paper.

I'm thinking for tomorrow maybe I should try drawing form of the face, shadows and stuff, rather then worrying about detail like eyes. Just to change things up, and increase my understanding.

You have to let your hands sorta go. Let them sketch. You dont have to make perfect lines, just sketch the eyes and keep sketching till they look good. Don't be afraid of making mistakes.

The way I learned to draw was this simple little technique because, when you sketch you dont really need an eraser because sketching is like repeating lines(also the faulty ones) over and over again, and make all those lines create a nice little effect where it becomes a whole. Ofcourse you will have to use an eraser if you made a big mistake.

But this is just very basic advice. Hope I dont come off as a smartass :P, those iizuka and yuji naka drawings are really a big step forward cuz i've been following your stuff. You've really improved.

Thanks for the comment :) It's always nice to hear something like that. I took a life-drawing class over the last 3 months or so and I feel it's definitely helped me improve. I can draw pretty decent figures, I just need to get better at the detail, i'd also like to get better at gesture drawing, that stuff trips me up sometimes.

As for your tip on sketching, I'll have to try that. Got nothing to loose.

I like the drawings you made, they look nice :)

Reading back I think I made some grammatical errors. Just for clarification, When you sketch and some of the lines don't match the way you've intended, you try to correct it simply by sketching over them. Eyes are tough to get aligned naturally, especially when the head isn't looking straight which the iizuka and yuji naka drawings demonstrate well. When sketching it helps because u can keep analyzing and correcting with the next line over the previous one. It's also good if you use the pencil very loosely untill you are sure drawing a "definite" line over them.

I could swear You are really improving there shadi. The eyes look a lot more natural than the iizuka drawing. The thing with sketching is that it lets you repeat/practice a lot within a small timeframe, hence improves your skill faster and more efficiently. At some point your hands will naturally make better lines. In general The eyes are actually good. But perhaps not how u wanted them to be like DSP's :P

Thanks dude, i quite drawing years ago. Hands are way too effed up to continue to draw. Working at a desk all day doesn't help me either.

Neat :) It'd be cool if they were your own logos, but it still takes some skill to replicate certain logos. They look nice.

I'm planning PC at the moment but if there are more exporters supplied for the program I'm using (Multimedia Fusion, something akin to GameMaker) I'd love to get it on more platforms but right now it's going to be solely for the PC.
