Fact is many of Japanese VF fans are okay with VF has no story.
IRL Tournament was still active there and the winner of VF in the game is based on the tournament in real life.
For example, in VF 2 Akira was mostly used tournament winners so in the game he became the winner of VF2.

Also about who wins which...

Virtua Fighter 1
According to VF2 Manual Book, Lau is the winner.
He fought Akira in the Final.

Virtua Fighter 2
According to VF3 Manual Book, Akira is the winner.
He fought Wolf in the Final.

Virtua Fighter 3
According to VF4 Manual Book, Kage is the winner.
He fought Akira in the final.
But somehow Jeffrey's the one who got the money prize.
Kage wasn't interested in the prize, he just wanted to save her mother.

Virtua Fighter 4
According to VF5 Manual Book, no clear winner.
The final fight between Kage and Shun Di is interrupted by Dural.
Dural usually wait until the tournament's over to fight the winner but she's kinda impatient and wanted to take them both.
Kage's the one who beat Dural in the end so probably we can say he's the winner.
Akira doesn't even make it to the Final, Kage beat him in the semifinal.
This deeply affected Akira too much which leads him to *spoiler*.

Virtua Fighter 5
We'll have to wait for VF6 Manual Book to know who the winner is.

Right now Kage's the strongest there is but that's also because Lau is already sick, not at his fullest power like he was in VF1.

It's OK if Arcade and Tournament versions of the game lack stories, I just think they should make Story Modes for the home console/PC versions. Offer new challenges and much needed context over characters and story.

Yes, they should have though I doubt they will.
They don't even bother to port the latest VF5 games to PC.
Hell, not even the previous games (I, II, III, IV - not counting MD version).
I really want Virtua Fighter Collection consists from 1 to 5.

There's always Dead or Alive 5: Last Round, where you can buy the Virtua Fighters as DLCs. Never played it so I dunno if they have a Story Mode for the Virtua Fighters or can compare to the games.

But yeah. They should just release a console/PC exclusive Virtua Fighter game at this point that is either recycled from VF5 or built from the ground up. "Virtua Fighter Legacy" or something, a sort of soft reboot of the Virtua Fighter lore told over a story mode to cover everything.

I bought those DLCs for DoA5, the story is just each of them met one of the DoA fighters and then they fight.
That's all.
Nothing's worthy.
Story's still focused on DOA characters.
You got a lot more VF story reading from VF Manual Books.

Still they're fun to play.
And bonus .... there are also beach suits for Sarah and Pai.

Still the suits aren't as sexy as the DOA girls'.

I recall the beach volleyball DoA games, where people got the games for the one thing, and it wasn't beach volleyball.

Rest assured, the developer has fixed that "mistake" now and dropped the "beach volleyball" title.
"Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball" is now only known as "Dead or Alive Xtreme"

Too bad no Virtua Fighter characters DLC in this spin-off.

11 Drunken Masters in Fighting Games (That Jackie Chan Would Be Proud)
Including Shun Di

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIhzFekitmM

Quote
Zui Qan, literally drunk fist, is an ancient style present in different Chinese martial arts, such as Kung-Fu, which consists of imitating the movements of a drunk person.

The basic technique is to imitate the movements of a drunk person, as if you had a belly full of wine, which flows through the body bringing energy to the movements, using strange and unusual positions that, at first glance, may seem random and uncomfortable, but that actually maintain the balance of the body. As one progresses in the handling of the style, one moves on to acrobatic techniques that require a high degree of coordination.
