I'm not familiar with the IP, but apparently it's huge. Sega AM2's arcade game of Kantai Collection was released in Japan this week and it looks like people are clamoring to play it. http://kotaku.com/its-2016-and-japanese-people-are-lining-up-for-an-arcad-1773067796

Seems like this is going to be a massive success for both SEGA and AM2. Good news since the arcade scene has been struggling a bit in recent times.

Nice of Kotaku to not mentioning neither Sega nor AM2.
Kotaku should die.
-
It probably will since Hulk Hogan is taking Gawker Media to the cleaners. :))

Yeah, Kotaku as many other videogame industry media has always had to my eyes an irritating aversion to SEGA ... thus, yes should die.

Mentioning the developer's name and arcade machine manufacturer are the most basic things you mention in a news post. It's like Kotaku went out of their way to not mention SEGA.

They've been very supportive of the Yakuza series, though, and have advocated for it to be localized for the West over the years. In my opinion, Kotaku has improved a bit over the past couple of years, as some of their more annoying writers have migrated to Polygon. But yeah, overall I don't like the editorial tone of Gawker sites.

Kotaku are shite, Polygon are worse. Both can do one.

Interesting never heard of this game and it looks weird. Native Japanese have very different tastes in games it seems compared to us westerners :o .

TBH this game was a hit mostly because of the KanColle IP, as arcade RTSes are THE most expensive arcade games to play (to even boot the game you have to buy a 5 dollar starter pack) so they're doomed to fail without a strong IP to back it up.

>Kantai Collection
>Arcade card game
I'd rather have Sega NOT be mentioned, to be honest.
Slowtaku is very much shit, that said.

$5 just to play? Ouch. OMG :-\

I'm vaguely familiar with KanColle through the ramblings of some friends, but regardless I'm glad to see AM2 finding success with it. I can't help but envy that arcades are still somewhat a thing over in Japan, I regret taking my local ones for granted back in the day.

More like $5 to boot the game for the first time, and then $1 every other time for a 1/999999 chance of getting a single good card for your starter deck of 20 bad cards.
