Title: Mac OS 9 login issues
Post by: crackdude on February 19, 2013, 04:30:57 pm
well it doesn't last super long, so once you get back on the forums just post that you got it. usually lasts 10 seconds at most.
oh ok, dumb question on my part then.. Usually when I get errors they last longer.

(on another topic, why can't I log on to the forums in any MacOS 9 browser?)

Are you really running Mac OS9?

sounds like a really weird issue, OS shouldn't be stopping you from logging in.

did you try clearing the cookies?

The browser will be older than dirt.  OS 9.2 was replaced by OSX in 2002, I think.  Are you using Internet Explorer for Mac, Netscape, Omniweb?

Will, when you moved my comment to this thread, it made me look dumb!   :o  Before the topic heading wasn't Mac OS 9 login issues.

Browser/OS shouldn't matter though. As long as the browser supports cookies he should be able to login.

Also, sorry. I wanted to keep things organized, his post was about something different, so I made a new thread out of it, and your post was replying to him, so I moved yours too.

Yes! I just got an old iMac/233 :D I'm running MacOS 9.2.1

I've tried both Netscape Communicator and Internet Explorer 4.5
Obviously the presentation is all fucked up, but I thought I should be able to login and post. Both browsers support cookies. But it gives me an error (I'll check which one later to show you)

There's a Classilla browser in current development, but I still don't have enough memory to run it. (I'm running on 64mb, 32 physical + 32 virtual)

You might be able to run OSX 10.0 or 10.1.

Under 32mb, no chance at all. I just ordered 256mb. Let's see how it goes then

i don't understand why you cant login. As long as your browsers support cookies you shouldn't be having any issues. Consider me confused :P

I've run every version of Mac OS from 7.6 to present (OSX 10.8.2).  See your iMac project makes me feel some nostalgia.

It was running 8.1 when I got it. It was the first ever iMac, unupdated, completely stock.
Meanwhile I've replaced the puny 4gig HDD for a 80gigs. Next up is the memory, and later I'll do some overclocking to the CPU.. It'll be awesome :p

If you can get the ram way up then maybe you can get OSX 10.0 or 10.1 and then you can run Safari.

They should still have cookies.  Microsoft stopped supporting the Mac version of Internet Explorer in 2002.

They have cookies, both. But none allows me to login. It's an error given by the forum itself.

To my surprise, it worked this time. I don't know if you can see it with your admin powers, but I'm on IE 4.5 running on MacOS 9.2.1!
The layout is completely f'ed up, but I can now login and (if you can read this) post.

I just got 256mb of ram through the mail today and bumped the overall memory to 288mb. Maybe that has something to do with it? I'll try Classilla next and see if the website is presented correctly.

Trying out Classilla.
It's alpha software so it's a bit sluggish (even with 9 times the stock memory), but the presentation is near perfect! Web loading is fast and everything works like it should!

A definitive MUST for any MacOS 9 user.

haha wow IE 4.5. I tested down to IE6. IE6 or IE7 or even IE8 it's not perfect, but it's readable and gets the job done.

Did you try netscape? LOL i think netscape might render it better than IE. Microsoft never used to follow web standards.

There is a more "modern" browser out for the Classic Mac OS called iCab.

Hopefully it should fix the problem.
