f.lux : save your eyes today

Ever notice how people texting at night have that eerie blue glow?

Or wake up ready to write down the Next Great Idea, and get blinded by your computer screen?

During the day, computer screens look good—they're designed to look like the sun. But, at 9PM, 10PM, or 3AM, you probably shouldn't be looking at the sun.
f.lux

F.lux fixes this: it makes the color of your computer's display adapt to the time of day, warm at night and like sunlight during the day.

It's even possible that you're staying up too late because of your computer. You could use f.lux because it makes you sleep better, or you could just use it just because it makes your computer look better.

f.lux makes your computer screen look like the room you're in, all the time. When the sun sets, it makes your computer look like your indoor lights. In the morning, it makes things look like sunlight again.

Tell f.lux what kind of lighting you have, and where you live. Then forget about it. F.lux will do the rest, automatically.

It's quite nice: Using it right now. It took a while to get used to at first XD was quite the shock. It's really relaxing for your eyes though.

Obviously if you're doing graphics work you will have to temporarily turn it off, since it greatly alters colors.

I also recommend slow transition speed in the settings, fast was just.. too fast. at least for me xP

I see what they are saying here, but I just mess around the brightness and contrast settings manually.

Give me more details please, I don't feel like opening the link.

I used to but when I am writing reports on word with the lights off it feels extremelyt weird. So I change the LCD settings to Text Mode and it helped a lot.

It does more then just darken the screen.

It also changes the color so it is the same brightness as a halogen bulb at night, it's quite helpful and saves your eyes a tons of pain. The default night setting was too dark for me, but 3700k was perfect.

It's a little weird to get used to, but once your used to it, it's great. I tried turning it off lastnight temporarily and my screen seemed so bright and blinded me lol. When you are more tired more brightness hurts your eyes.

I don't know but Halogen is warm, where as Fluorescent is hard or vice versa I am not sure.

Ideally warm would be preferred in Night time, where as hard is needed in day.
