Title: SegaBits Plays: Deus Ex - Beginning 5th December JOIN US!
Post by: MadeManG74 on November 26, 2014, 03:41:26 pm
Your appointment to FEMA should be finalized within the week. I've already discussed the matter with the Senator...

WHAT IS THIS?
Deus Ex is one of the greatest games ever made. With some members talking about it recently a few of us are going to play the game starting the same day and discuss our progress here. As Deus Ex is a game with a lot of freedom in play it should be very fun to see how each of us plays differently.
I'll update with more details about the game soonish if this actually gathers some interest.

CAN I PLAY TOO?
I would like as many people to join as possible! We start playing on the weekend beginning 5th December. Not strict on time, anytime around that weekend should be fine.

WHERE CAN I BUY IT? CAN I RUN THE GAME?
The game is old as the hills, so should run on most computers.
It can be purchased here (at time of writing it's only $3.89 CDN, 50% off on sale):

I... actually don't think I have! I've played it a lot but I think I used to replay segments I liked and play with friends etc to show various levels. It's also been a long, long time since I last played, so I'm really looking forward to plaything through again :)

Not sure how I'll build my character though... I know I've played stealthy in DX and DXHR a lot, so I might try the opposite and go for guns blazing rootin' tootin' rocket launcher shootin'.

I'll figure whats best for me. The first time I played human revolution I did the same and ended up blazing guns shooting everyone like there's no tomorrow. 2nd time I went for the pacifist achievement. Fun on both occasions but stealthy took alooott longer to finish. I'm not even sure why I did it for the achievement when I dont even like them in the first place lol.

Surprised you finished it only once. What better time to do it again :afroman:

Bro, bro, my netbook can fucken run this game!!

I told you! This game runs on Fred Flintstone's PC!

I installed it yesterday from GOG, it supports up to 1600x900 res. I might look for some FoV and other visual mod/updates, but if not this looks good enough already.

We all set for next weekend start? Aki-at might be joining us too!

While I don't have a problem with it, if Old Man Graphics (TM) are an issue, you can make it a little better with this high res texture mod:
http://www.moddb.com/mods/new-vision

Gameplay remains unchanged for that pure Deus Ex experience.

Installed the high-res texture pack and played around a bit in the starting area, this game is so much fun, and the high res textures look quite nice!

Looking forward to next Friday!

Probably a good idea! The textures about 1.5GB (thats like 3 times the size of the vanilla game...)

A note about difficulty settings - Medium is probably best to start with as easy and hard just make enemies do more/less damage and yourself do more/less damage to them.

Realistic means a headshot will drop you dead, or getting shot in the leg means you can't run/jump etc. Probably not good for a first play-through.

Okay I've started the game, remembering bits and pieces as I go along, they don't make em like they used to...

Okay, Spoilers for Liberty Island (First Level)
----------------------------------------------------------
In terms of skill points to start with, I put into Lock-picking and Electronics. I like being able to explore freely and these help out a lot at the start. With remaining points I couldn't do much so put some into swimming.

Started out talking to Paul, I took the GEP gun. Figured I would like to have a little less stealth than my last playthrough and the playthrough of HR. Still will use it when required, but it's fun to blow things up to.

I went under the water and got the boxes of goodies, did you guys check it out? This game has so many secrets to find.

I also found a little bunker that had a faulty electricity box, I could have disabled the generator, but instead i used the boxes to climb over safely and collect the password for the security system in the Statue!

I got into the statue itself by climbing up some shipping containers to bypass the lower floor and main entrance. From here I dropped down to the main floor to find Gunther. I couldn't find the terminal to disable the lasers, so I went through the vents and took the back entrance instead. KO'd the guard and turned off the turrets and cameras with the password I found before opening the door to Gunther. I didn't want to give him my pistol (especially not after I found some upgrades for it) so left him to wait while I took care of things. There was some friction there...

I also found someone's ATM Password and helped myself to 200 credits.

Jojo had some interesting things to say when I spoke to him a few times before UNATCO Agents were ready to take him away. Overall no casualties. We are police after all...

END SPOILERS
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Please do read the bits and pieces around the game, emails, newspapers, books etc. There's some interesting stuff about Mechanical Augmented agents resenting the new Nanotech guys (which JC is the second unit). Especially interesting for those who started with Human Revolution which was set during the mechanical augmentation era.

So I played a bit. I think getting used to the fact that the game wants you to figure everythign out on your own, the lack of navigations/maps/direction pointing, instead wants you to memorize yourself is something I raelly have to get used to, although appreciate. Some keys needed to be rebinded indeed. Rebinded crouching to c, reloading to r and zoom to middle mouse.

I like this sorta stuff. There's a lot of games i've memorized from back in the days that play just like this, only because of memorization I dont realize the lack of all the handholding and lack of direction pointing everywhere cuz i already know where to go.

Im not that far. Did the training again to refresh my memories, and now just went into the openfield. Still havent finished any objectives. I think today was a good start to let it all sink in a bit. Was a bit distracted with the playstation experience thing. Kind of regret it now but oh well tomorrow's another day.

I managed to play some too, finally put my kid to bed. My netbook slows down in a few areas, but I'm hoping it'll be good. Makes me remember how much I can appreciate first person RPGs.

Part of what I like about this game is the sense of discovery. There's no hand holding, and looking for things using your own tools is more satisfying than waymarkers and the like IMO.

Did you get a new KB or re-bind?
I had to re-bind everything haha.

Okay, update

BATTERY PARK
---------------------------------------

I gave some food to the kid on the docks and he told me the secret code for the tunnel near the vending machine. This helped me get into the Battery and clear out the NSF with little fuss.

Able to use some firepower with the GEP gun and the like in this mission.

Cleared out the shanty town, and used a ventilation grate in one of the lean-tos to get into the subway and take out the NSF behind their lines and get the hostages to safety.

So you cant play this game fully stealth? Seems tranquilizers keeps them running for a while. Had to close off the place with objects like barrels at where gunther needed to be saved to prevent them from sounding the alarm lol

You can play full stealth. The Baton and Tazer/Electric Prod are KO weapons. Not sure about Baton, but a hit from behind with the tazer will 1 hit KO the enemy. Pretty sure it's the same for Baton.

Tranquilizers are a trade off since they have range, it will take time for the enemy to get knocked out.

Having said that, blocking areas and the like is a legitimate strategy too! There are strength augmentations to let you lift heavier items, so you can even block doorways and paths with huge containers and the like.

Great to see some love for my favourite game ever made. I haven't played it for 6 months or so. Guess it's time for a reinstall!

I'm loving MadeManG74's update of his play through.

A quick tip. When you reach the room on the first level where Gunther is in the cell, drop your pistol and search one of the bodies. You'll pick up an unmodified one you can give to Gunther who's very happy with you and then you just go back out and pick your one back up. This saves a lot of issues with Gunther moaning at you later.

Yeah I've just sneaked into the statue myself, so much obliged with that tip!

So far I am loving my playthrough, it's amazing how much little handholding there is compared to now (Though I'll admit, I hardly play games that how much of that at all.) but it really is a fantastic gem from the past.

HELL'S KITCHEN & LA GUARDIA SPOILERS
------------------------------------
I haven't been updating as much as before, so this might be a bit out of order.

Before leaving I eavesdropped on Walton Simons interrogating the prisoners. He saw me and his bodyguards informed me on the way out that he was not pleased with me. Ulp.

Killed some punk harrassing a girl and now all the hookers love me.

I climbed up the fire escape and snuck up into Paul's room at the Hilton. Using his code I stocked up and then was able to leave into the hallway where I could sneak up to the terrorists who were holding the hostages via the elevator shaft. A few head-shots took them out without civilian casualties.

Going downstairs I took out the last remaining NSF guy who was hiding behind the counter with Mr Renton.

I found out about the smuggler and saved Ford Schick from a para-miliatary organisation hiding near the sewers. Trying to do experiments on people, odd.

Managed to get through this section without killing the guys, since they didn't seem like terrorists, except for one poor guy who got spooked and fell into the sewers.

I was able to find the mole people thanks to a code for the payphone.

I already had a LAM to clear out the rubble so I could get some help to find the NSF forces. Rock managed to live for another day.

I snuck through most of the area so I wouldn't alert the terrorists and get any civvies killed. I found out that the NSF had taken over most of the tunnel and that their leader was in a secret room I could access by using a secret brick. Killed a few NSF goons near the south end of the tunnel so I could explore. Found the brick and the leader gave up immediately, surrendering his entire force. I left them for a UNATCO Clean up crew.

Made my way to La Guardia and cleared the place out of NSF. Had to use the GEP gun to take out a couple of security bots patrolling the area. Found one of the barrels of ambrosia that hadn't been loaded yet and hacked into their security software. I re-purposed their security guns to help me, made a run for the helipad tunnel and the gatling gun covered my escape, taking out a few goons that tried to follow.

END SPOILERS
----------------------------

I'll try to take better notes, because I figure most of that was out of order and out of sync from about a week's gameplay :p

Edit: Warning/PSA, uninstalling the game removes save file. Save file used to be located at my documents but now they're located at the steam folder. Completely removed my save file. Honestly thank god I didnt get that far

Edit 2: Weekend's over. I guess it's safe to say that i'll be the most behind by now.

Glad you guys are still playing. I've slowed my playthrough down to let you catch up a bit. I might just plow ahead though and then hold off updates to avoid spoilers!

Had a  good run today (yay christmas day off). I think i'm starting to "get it". Honestly this game is very similar to the newer deus ex. Seems they stayed true enough with the sequel. My only gripe so far is that it's not very streamlined. But that kind of comes with the games of the time. I mean in the sense of quickslots and the way you use, pick up items and augmentations. Using the flash everytime and turning it off etc.

I've just been done with getting the ambrosia from the clinton place. I'm playing fully stealth. I've been noticing that it doesnt really matter how you play unlike in human revolution. I just cant go back to "blazing guns" after playing fully stealth in my 2nd human revolution playthrough. It feels satisfying playing non lethally. Keeping everyone alive etc. So far so  good.

Roamed around the hell's kitchen a bit. Went to the  tavern, explored the place a bit and rescued that chick from that guy johnny. Now i got the password bloodshot for the smuggler's place. I saved and quit after taking the elevator. I'll play some more soon.

Edit: I just read some of your spoilers now that ive progressed a bit more. I am the kind of player that likes to explore everytng and see every nook and cranny. I also gave food to the kid and opened the secret opening, but at the same time checked the other options like through the subway entrance or through lockpicking box>666 code.

I just managed to make it out of the NSF HQ without killing a single person (you'll know when you get there) through a combination of gas grenades and prepping an escape route :D

Absolutly loving it. The thing with this game is, once you adapt to the mechanics and to the AI behaviour, everything else is indeed better done in this game than human revolution. I love how creative you can be with the environment. And holy crap at the many possibities and options to reach the warehouse. Also in general. The sidequests are actually really fun and sometimes have their own dedicated levels.

I found an issue however. The game freezes at the NYC airfield. I hope you know the bit I mean. Its the NSF headquarters you reach through the MOLE place, and then there's the bit with the helicopter. There's a manhole in the corner. When I  go down there and dive towards the next bit, it freezes. Completely freezes everytime I go there. I saved so I cant go back anymore. I heard its a known issue. Had any problems yourself?

How did you get into the warehouse in the end? I'm trying to remember that bit now and how I did it.
And yeah, the sidequests are very well developed!

I can't say I had that same problem. Are you going underwater when it freezes? I don't think I even explored that area.

It seems the issue fixed itself. Weird. Anyway its the part where you can take the elevator to the hangar. There's another way to get to the hangar through a manhole in the same area(with the helicopter), you go down the manhole through the water. I didnt know it was taking me to the same area untill I explored it a bit more. It takes you a bit closer to the fence that leads to the hangar, ultimately it gets you to the same place

Its got interesting now. Just met my brother at the hangar so you probably know whats happening. Should I keep asking juan lebedev and let him get killed by anna or should I just leave him? I quick saved before the kill

^Impressive!
What happens when you kill Ana? Do UNATCO turn on you immediately?
Also how did you get into the hanger? Stealthy?

I remember I used my SUPER STRONK ARMS Augmentation to stack some heavy boxes by the barracks and sneak in through the window. Then I tazered all the guys in there and ransacked their weapons locker before sneaking into the hanger. Before that I took out those pesky bots around the compound with the GEP gun and some well placed rockets.

Spoiler alert
Honestly I gotta say that i'm really impressed with how all dialogue considers what ive done to ana and keeping juan alive. I mean wow for a game that old its doing things more impressive than stuff of today. Im actually not sure how much changes for the actual experience compared to having kept her alive.

What happened after i killed her was alex jacobson giving me a message about being shocked of what i had done, but somewhat understanding. Also very nervous about consequences, trying to cover everything for me. All the diologue that followed considered my choice in keeping juan alive, but anna's death is the part being covered and JC keeps denying it and said that something weird happened before i got to the hangar.

I got to the hangar by basically tranquilizing or hitting the soldiers unconsious. All of them gave nano keys for the secured corners(the outlook parts with 2 cameras and turrets). The robots patrolling the area are the only things I avoided by hiding. I explored every one of those outlooks, opened them up and looted what i needed.

In the small building behind the fence(the one with the door leading to the hangar), there was also a rock you could push to access a secret area next to the dart board :p

What followed was me going to hell's kitchen to my brother. I've noticed that there was very little of him trying to convince me, he confirmed me keeping juan alive and the message he gave me on the plane. I had to do something for him. Sending a message through satelite. This is the part where i wonder how much of the experience is different. When you send the messages through the satelite, does the fema guy also command the soldiers to go after you when not doing what ive done? All of a sudden all soldiers in that building were against me because of the fema guy's already suspicion at the unatco HQ

I ended up getting caught by gunther in my escape

Yes the game is great with the freedom it allows you! I'm glad you're enjoying it. Hoping Pirovash gives it another shot soon too.

SPOILERS!!

In my game I talked to Juan but refused to kill him when ordered by Ana. Ana then shot him and said 'this is how we deal with terrorists'. I got chastised for it by everyone except Alex back at base, despite JC's argument of how killing unarmed prisoners is illegal.

Ah yeah, I just shot my way through that outside area. I used EMP grenades to take out the turrets etc and get to the corners, using either keys or lockpicks to get in. Oh yes, I think I got that secret area too, it was a brick in the back wall right?

When you send the message via satellite Walton Simons will always turn the soldiers against you. It's because you're sending a distress signal to the terrorist organisations.

When you leave, if you didnt kill Ana like me, you fight her in the Subway station. You can either get captured by her, or if you kill her Gunter then stops you outside. You can choose to surrender or he'll fight you. I'm not sure if it's possible to beat him in this fight though.

Yeah it was a brick on the wall.

Ah so the experience doesnt drastically change then. I hacked the computers which allowed sending the signal. Later I found out that the code could be found beneath the building in that overly protected basement. Lasers, closed doors, explosions everywhere. Finally got the code and I was like damn. Well at least the loot was nice(also skill points).

There was no anna in the subway station. It was just me and I tried to avoid gunther by trying to destroy the mechs, but seems that it was part of the story. Kind of regret helping him out now at the beginning! I think I tried fighting him but that choice was absolutly impossible lol. Shots from everywhere!

I just escaped the UNATCO HQ. Spoke to everyone that wasnt a soldier trying to kill me. Asked some of them to join me, but advised the doctor at the medlab to stay. There was also a soldier at the beginning in one of the prisons that can assist you through the whole area. I actually managed to get him out with me. Miguel was his name.

MORE SPOILERS:

Haha, yeah I went to the basement as well. I figured I 'should' since that is where the proof of corruption is as well. Did you find it? It was on top of the shelves, you need to jump to grab the datacube that has evidence of Manderley accepting bribes from Walton Simons.

I managed to make it out of the complex after setting off the distress signal without killing any UNATCO guys. I chucked a lot of gas grenades and made use of bodyarmor and haz-mat suits to escape past them. Ana wouldn't have shown up in your game because she's a fine red mist already. And yeah I threatened to fight Gunther but got rekt and woke up in the prison Cell when Daedalus helped me escape.

I got Alex and Jaime to try and join me, the General stayed behind because they need good people to stay back and support what UNATCO stands for. I managed to get Miguel out as well, and managed to take out a few Men in Black agents too. Those guys are creepy.

Let me know when you get to Hong Kong and how you go there! I'm currently on the last legs of the HK missions.

I actually didnt find that. Coincidently I still have a save file there. Where should I be looking?

Wait you could get those MIB to follow you as well? I had a red aim reticule from the moment i saw them. They looked scary indeed

I am actually at hong kong now I think, I mean we landed somewhere with the helicopter. Cant remember how and why. You may refresh my memory on this if you want. I kind of lose track with things with my irregular gaming time.

Edit: Wait nvm found it. It was in the same room with the other datacube it seems.

Hong kong is great :). At first I felt it was hard to navigate because of how big and mazy it is(I dont use the maps). I decided to explore the whole place before I went looking for tracer Tong. The place is huuuge. Sewers and stuff had a lot of exploration. The boat with the woman selling mods. Also the secret room in that boat by activating one of the lamps. There was a biometric charger thingie but also a box with money. There was also 2 small boxes inside of it. I was like why not destroy them, and whadya know, even more cash inside of them!

I also got in one of the bars in that same area. Stumbled on some guy who thought I was paul. There was like a whole secret area thing in the back through the kitchen>freezer>airduct> umder water. Some monsters were there and found one of those augmentation upgrade items on a dead body.

And thats just some of the few things i did. I mean fooling around in this game is so fun. Its what im doing most of the time. The woman behind the counter at the lucky money has a lot of cash if you hit her unconsious.

The red arrow vs luminous path fight in one of the underground areas was hilarious to watch.

I ended up at maggie chow which seemed to be a bitch. I got the code from her but from further exploration I had already gotten to the dragon's tooth and it deactivated the sidequest. Thankfully i still had the code to acces the passage under the police area.

Got the killswitch removed at tracertong and am now at versalife

[spoiler end]

At this point im thinking that this game is the kind of game that keeps getting more interesting and better as you progress. The bar keeps on rising. Especially when I think about how the game started and I was still skeptical. Im not thinking about when its gonna finish, only about what's next. Im glad that i sticked with it. I recommend everyone to as well if you read this

I finished up at Hong Kong and I'm now in another location! Don't want to give spoilers! I'll wait until you're caught up.

^Congrats

I just finished the docks. I think so far that has been the toughest part to stealth/pacifist through. Huge environment with a lot of places to check and explore. Took a lot of time

I'm in paris now

Edit: Btw what does a bogey mean lol. The stuff some of the enemies say makes no sense. I mean... fascist?

Edit2: I just found Jaime reyes in paris. Did he also give a "killphrase" for gunther? Supposedly he got it because I advised him to stay at UNATCO for intel

Bogey is a military term, it means making contact with something unknown, but assumed to be an enemy.
EG: I got a bogey here!
When do they use fascist? I don't remember that one. Unless it's civilians talking about you when you work for UNATCO.

Remind me where the 'Docks' were? Do you mean in Hong Kong? How did you go about getting to the UC and the like?
Paris was a great level, I really enjoyed that one a lot.

I didn't find Jaime in Paris. Where did you find him? I thought I explored the area pretty well too. Maybe because I asked Jaime to leave UNATCO we got a different result?

I didn't get a kill-phrase for Gunter at any rate. I love how the older mechs had kill-phrases, and how Paul/JC had their remote Kill-Switches.

It just sounds funny when they say it. The voice acting can be pretty funny in general :P .

Yeah its in the beginning when you're still against NSF when they called me a fascist.

With "Docks" I meant the naval shipyards. I'm not sure if it was in hong kong or in the US. I think it was in the US? About the UC, i'm not sure how I got there anymore. I think through the subway backdoor I got there with a code tracer tong gave me, and then there were a couple of ways to maneuvre through the place. There's a bit with the blue laser security, i used the multitool to disable it. I dont know if there's any other way of getting through or getting rid of the laser. I used the drone to disable the 2 mechs behind it. The drone has been really useful so far. I'm glad I picked it  earlier in the game. Especially now its lvl 3, it disables even the big ones instantly. So I ended up going down to maggie chow. If there's anything I should know about that part do tell.

Yeah Jaime was in Paris in one of the bars/restaurants. He ended up telling me how he had a feeling the UNATCO was getting suspicious about him or something like that. And then told me how he got into UNATCO's system and got Gunther's killphrase from there. So my decision of keeping him there worked out well it seems!

Ahh yeah I know what you're talking about. You've spoken to Stanton Dowd then I take it? I found that mission quite fun.

I know you could get into the secret base via Maggie Chow's apartment, there's a room that the maid gets very nervous about you being in that opens a secret door. As for the Versa Life building to get to the UC I think you need to go in through the back or in the front door.

Oh yeah, to disable the blue lasers/trip wires, you can use EMP grenades as well! That's usually what I did to save my multi-tools.

The drone sounds really awesome, I didn't use that, I picked the other one (EMP Shielding?)
Either way, I think it's great almost all the various augs have their uses through the game and there's usually a time for each you think 'I'm glad I chose that one'. The super strength one came in handy reaching some areas by moving big containers around and the like for example.

Yeah shanton dowd. I mean you're supposed to do that to progress right? He was in that deserted demolished building. Speaking of which, hell's kitchen was tightly secured at that part. Couldnt even move around.

I figured as much about UC. You never know with the options i've encountered so far. Compared to human revolution, this game has a lot more options to find your way through the game. Its also in what augmentations you choose. I dont have the heavy object lifting aug so i think our methods differ a lot with me having the drone aug. Its definitly handy against all the bots later in the game. You can basically sit in a safe spot and just disable about everything. Making emp grenades kind of obsolete when making it reach lvl 3. Emp grenades disabling blue laser strips made me realise that the drone can do it too! But there have been a lot of bits where i wish i could lift heavy objects.

Right now i've just been done with the MJ12 Sub base. Killed simons on my way out. Its funny how its my first legit "boss" fight. After killing anna navarre on the plane, and having gunther's killphrase, this was actually my first battle!

I also found an amazing glitch at gary savage. I decided to record it. Check this out lol. Not sure if its a well known one.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUGIwQlm35E

Having a full inventory and just standing there makes him keep giving me 500 skill points lmfao. I feel like im cheating now :(

^Did you get Stanton his Ambrosia? Also, did you meet Lucius deBeers? He's always so cold :(

But yes, one of the great things about this game is the wealth of options opened by different augs. I remember using the EMP drone ages ago, but didn't use it this playthrough. I used the aggressive defence aug instead which was handy in gunfights, protecting me from rockets and the like. My character was more suited to shootouts this time, with my gep gun I was able to attack most mechs with that. The white phosphorus rounds made short work of infantry too.

And yes, I believe Simons is the only NPC in the game you 'need' to kill.

As for that glitch, that's nuts! Don't ruin the game for yourself by abusing it too much!

I think I did. What was the place called? There were a lot of gravss and he was at the cemetary. I definitly got the ambrosia for him. Man there's so much stuff that happens, you kind of lose track. Or at least in my case since its my first time. I keep going from one part to the other. Its different from HR where the game goes from hub>mission>hub>mission. Its less consistent and less predictable in this one. I enjoyed every environment so far but i kind of lose track of where ive been.

We should really show our augs and skills at the end(when im done too :p). Kind of curious at the differences

Edit: oh yeAh i did see lucius debeers. That was kind of sad seeing him being tricked by everett. I was really conflicted about it and was wondering if i should end his life or not. I decided to leave him, but then I read more about him, and now i wish i just ended his life... Seems he was a terrible guy

Finished it. *deep sigh... What an excellent game. Chose dark age path/ending because that's what i'd do in that position. The evolution of technoligy is worrying and honestly losing all of it wouldnt be a big deal. I liked what tracer tong said at the end, about going back to villages.

What did you piclk?

I may check the other 2 endings later. I saved after clearing the whole place (well except for those that keep spawning).

That was a really long ride mang. Holy crap. Is it me or is this game really long? Impressive how it didnt become stale or boring. The events kept me interested.

I feel good now about waiting for the sequel  to human revolution! Thanks for the recommendation and motivation. WOuld've probably never given it a chance so soon if it werent for this thing you started.

Man what a ride

It really is an excellent game. I'm super happy you enjoyed it too. Hoping that our fallen compatriots Piro and Aki-at get a chance to play it at some point too :)

Ah, the Dark Ages ending? I went with the Illuminati ending for the same reason. If I was in that position, I thought I would rather go with that one. I feel like a collapse of tech that severe would be catastrophic for society, and I didn't trust a machine to look after human needs, with or without JC's input. Even with JC, that's just one man.
I felt like the Illuminati was the best option to steer the world back from the brink.
"Eventually...eventually we will lead them into the dawn."

It really is a long ride isn't it? The game IS long, by modern standards especially. Don't forget Mafia 1 came out around 15-20 hours and reviewers complained about it being too short. I feel like Deus feels longer too, due to the amount of exploration you can do and the vast globe-spanning nature of the adventure. It feels 'epic' in that you're in the US one minute, Paris the next, Hong Kong, then exploring undersea labs. You meet dozens of people along the way and read up on tons of background information.

No problem on the recommendation, it was fun for me to finally revisit this game too. So glad you enjoyed it. Maybe we should do another Segabits Plays in the future for another Classic PC game or something (Mafia 1 would get my vote :D).

They really don't make em like they used to.

Ah I see. I mean tagging along with illuminati is kind of what we have today which is pretty stable. But that's a whole different story which would fit better in the offtopic section. I think its also part why I like the franchise as its so politically heavy. In this department human revolution also does a great job in the sense that it reflects a possible reality of the future really well. What happens in the franchise may perfectly be possible in real life eventually. There's a lot of strigns being pulled from everywhere and technoligy can easily be manipulated by those, eventually causing only a seeming freedom, when in reality you're just really "following" and "obeying".

Ah so it wasnt just me thinking the game was long. I remember when I got to Hong Kong and I actually thought that I was very far into the game lol. It does feel very long indeed because of the many places you can explore. And I actually explored alot!

And yes the music is fantastic. My favourite

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1kt-H7qUr58 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1kt-H7qUr58) Love the part that starts at 1:30

There's probably another highlight im missing I cant think of now. May have to download the OST to recap. Anyway about the music, its pretty crazy how each environment has its dedicated conversation music, death music and enemy encounter music. Now thats what you call dedication.

Damn it I love this game. I remember when I played it first I went with the Dark Age ending, reasoning that if it was good enough for Snake Plissken, it's good enough for me. I would not advise playing the sequel, Invisible War, but take a look at the link below to get an idea of what your ending choice did in that one. It's very interesting.

Anyway yeah Hong Kong is the best heh. One of my brothers thought it sounded like streets of rage. I miss the times when game music still sounded like game music :P . I prefer deusEx 1 soundtrack over human revolution

Give it a shot Crazy T! I might play through a little bit with you too.

It has a reputation of being some horrible filth that will make you physically ill, but from memory it wasn't THAT bad.

I remember it came out shortly after 9/11 and even had the tag-line 'The Future War on Terror!' on the box. I had only just played Deus Ex recently and saw the sequel was out and was really hyped for it, despite meh reviews. I bought it from Electronic's Boutique and played a couple of levels and actually thought it had quite some promise, although even at that point I was really disappointed with how they gimped the augs and skill trees etc. It really is very simplified and I didn't like it as much as the original, but it's probably worth playing, especially if it's the only one you haven't tried yet. This will have capped the series and you'll have played it in chronological order as well!
