Title: X-MEN First Class Poster meme
Post by: Barry the Nomad on March 09, 2011, 12:35:22 pm
Has anybody seen the godawful X-MEN First Class posters? Here they are:

http://geeksofdoom.com/2011/03/09/new-x ... fans-weep/ (http://geeksofdoom.com/2011/03/09/new-x-men-first-class-posters-hit-the-web-and-fans-weep/)

What makes them so awful? Well for one thing the simplicity. But its not a good sort of simplicity. Default white background, silhouette and a badly placed image of the actor within the silhouette. Look at Prof X, that bit of white is dangerously close to his eye. Why center at the crotch? Why be so freakin' literal? Anyway, so I was inspired to make my own meme. Basically, anything goes as long as the thing inside the thing later becomes the silhouette:

I am in need of more ideas.

Good idea, but really poor execution. This meme sounds funny though. I'm too late for work and hopeless at photochopps to do anything now though!

Ha! Yeah, i was half joking at making it a real meme. Its hard to make a well executed version of something that itself is so poorly executed. lol

I could see the chicken and egg one being the cover of some philosophy text book.

I don't know what started as a return to the basics has gone in a weird direction.

Where is the original gang of Angel, Cyclops, Ice Man, Marvel Girl and Beast (I know Beast is there, but what about the rest). I was hoping for a reboot, to fix the mess that was X2 & Last Stand.

I love X-Men, but I really have no interest in this movie.
Good job with the posters though Barry.

I'm interested in this movie.  XMEN 3 was a real let-down.

At the time I just thought X3 was a let down, now I consider X2 to be just as bad.

Where the fuck was Saber Tooth?
Did they just kill Uriko without even showing her back story?
Where the fuck was Cyclops? (he was supposed to be in Prof.X's delusion but he was replaced in favor of a random girl?) He had very little screen time.
How come Storm no longer has an African accent?
How is Wolverine taller than he was in the last film?

What I don't get is if this is a prequel to ALL the X-Men movies, why is Emma Frost an adult in this, yet Origins: Wolverine shows her as a teen as well as a fully grown Charles? It's like the filmmakers almost seem to totally disregard consistancy (even though Wolverine was a rather pointless movie).

I think they just wanted to have a big female character wearing skimpy outfits.

Big like heavy? Because the superhero world needs more plus sized women.

@Chaosmaster8753:

Yeah, they've really messed things up. Supposedly, this IS a prequel to X-Men 1-3, however is ISN'T connected to X-Men Origins: Wolverine. I think they're pretending that didn't happen.

The next Wolverine sounds good. Darren Aronofsky is behind it (Wrestler, Black Swan), Jackman is returning, is is NOT a sequel to the aforementioned Wolverine spin-off (thank god) and it takes place in Japan.

More big like B-list instead of D-list like some of the characters in the movie (Darwin, Azazel, Angel Salvadore, etc...).

I wish they would pretend The Last Stand never happened and fix things from there.

Since I'm not a Wolverine fan I'll forgive them for X2.

But seriously why are Cyclops and Marvel Girl absent?

I watched the trailer analysis by IGN and lots of weird stuff in it, not liking it but this movie might surprise us.

I like to pretend that, too. Though, I wouldn't have minded Deadpool the way they showed him in Origins if afterwards he started acting like the Deadpool everyone knows about to be honest.

That sounds nice so far, but have they said who's writing the script for The Wolverine?

Another plothole that bothers me is weren't Erik and Charles older than they were in this movie when they first met Jean in the X3 flashback?

Wait for Sin City 2, X-men movies are a joke.

I think they should have stopped at the second one. Third and Origins were lame. So lame that I didn't buy them on DVD, and I own just about every superhero movie on DVD.

Looking forward to Sin City 2 though. Loved the first, especially the uncut unrated DVD, which had all the stories play out as mini movies.

They should have just waited for Bryan Singer to finish Superman instead of rushing X3 into production with whoever was on hand (Matthew Vaughn, then Brett Ratner). I think I'm mostly pissy with X3 because they effed up Joss Whedon's awesome story, and the Phoenix saga all at the same time.

Yeah, rushing it was a really stupid idea. I would have preferred a 140 minute telling of the story with Singers involvement, rather than a 90 minute crapfest from the director of Rush Hour.

Off topic: I'll admit, I really liked Superman Returns. I liked the pacing, not so fast paced, and I loved the score. Yeah, it was mostly a love letter to the old movies, but that sorta helped it feel classic and iconic. It was also a nice alternative to the dark and gritty comic book films of the time. The Super Son thing was kinda stupid, but as a semi-sequel to Superman 2 it did make sense (Lois and Clark knocked boots in the Donner films). Ideal Superman trilogy in my opinion is Superman the Movie: 2000 expanded edition, Superman II: The Donner Cut, Superman Returns.

I'm starting to pick up on the inconsistencies. Like Beast being human in a tiny scene in X2, yet being Beast in X3, and now he's Beast again in First Class.

There was a recent interview with Brian Singer and he said that this is a prequel, not a reboot. When asked about the inconsistencies, he said: "We did our best to maintain continuity with the other films. But as sometimes happens for the sake of telling the most compelling story possible, we made a few concessions."

I can forgive him. It's not like he was thinking prequel when making the first two, and he had little to do with the third. Way I see it: X-Men 1 and 2 are totally legit (minus that very small scene of Hank McCoy in X2) as is First Class. X-Men 3 is best forgotten (half the cast died and there was no resolution!) and X-Men Origins Wolverine is stricken from the record, thanks to it being a huge stinker and the fact that Emma Frost is in Wolverine AND First Class.

Speaking of The Wolverine, Darren Aronofsky is out of directing :(

The Russian trailer actually shows Beast going from normal guy to blue and furry though.

So if Beast is 17 years old in First Class (portrayed by a 21 year old), which takes place in the 60's, and he was in X-Men 3, which takes place in the mid 00's... that makes him roughly 63 years old in X-Men 3. Kelsey Grammar was 51 when he played him in X-Men 3.

I guess it's plausible, if you figure that the Beast's transformation somehow allowed him to age a bit slower.

It's probably that whole Marvel sliding timeline at work. Who knows.

I read in the original X-Men 'Beast' claiming that we mutants heal fast.
After the first sentinel battle, I assume he has similar healing abilities like wolvie so he ages slower as well.

My problem is I can't get over X-Force members pretending to be original X-Men.

No Jean & Slim is a deal breaker, I watched Cyclops play the asshole boyfriend in contrast to the savage Wolverine, who somehow Jean finds attractive. But I don't get to see the Angel - Jean - Cyclops love triangle. Which actually was a more believable affair. :/ Consider me mucho disapointo

Yeah, it sucks that a credible director is no longer directing a comic-book movie. Though I can't really say I like or hate his films because I haven't seen them. Plus, where would they film it with the Japanese disaster going on?

Everybody knows that movies are never filmed where they should take place. Throughout the 90's, I thought New York looked like Canada!
