Title: Intense Twitter Campign over PS4 DRM
Post by: FourCartridge on May 27, 2013, 08:33:17 pm
Apologies if this is a plug, but I feel this is topic worthy.

NeoGAF is starting a massive snowballed campaign over PS4 DRM. It's snowballed to the point where several news sites are covering it:

http://www.destructoid.com/gamers-make-it-clear-to-sony-they-want-a-drm-free-ps4-254624.phtml

http://www.examiner.com/article/sony-responds-to-the-no-ps4-drm-movement

As I wrote that, 25 tweets in the campaign have been posted.

Thoughts? Sony has a chance to score massive PR...

I very much doubt Sony will DRM their console like Microsoft, seems that the new people behind the PS4 are all about consumers. Mark Cerny wouldn't do this!

... I hope.

They considered at one point or another, the patent is evidence enough. Fact of the matter is, they probably won't do it now due to the shit Microsoft is getting.

Out of last generation, Sony has had the 'friendliest' DRM. Earlier in the generation they allowed 4 units to use their digital stuff at the same time. While 360 had a one transfer a year thing and Nintendo doesn't even offer the ability to transfer digital content (that I know of) from Wii to new Wii.

I've heard that you can transfer virtual console games from Wii to WiiU.

Yeah, but apparently you can't re-download on the Wii again.

Wait and see... MS and Sony are going to be on the same page when it comes to DRM. MS just revealed it first and is getting the most shit for it, but Sony is going to be doing the same thing.

People gave Nintendo crap for an underpowered console, but in this case, it could benefit Nintendo without DRM.

Shuhei Yoshida already said that an internet connection won't be required, so I wouldn't worry about that. Hopefully it won't have a similar used game thing though.

There's speculation going around that EA ditched nintendo for that as one of the reasons. But yeah as true that could be, i doubt that was the main reason.

I highly doubt Nintendo will last long. The PS4 and Xbox are being released way after the WiiU was released. Plus, no one even wanted it. The sales were too low. Nintendo might end up like Sega.

Nintendo has quite a bit in the bank, you recall all those 'it prints money' gifs? They are the truth. The 3DS has over 30 million units sold. The Wii U has over 3 million units and hasn't had a big Nintendo game.

I think most people are saying Nintendo is doomed, but they have some of the most talented studios, the easiest to drop in price hardware and hopefully have a few things up their sleeves come this E3.

Ugh, I hate EA with a passion.

Not just because of things like that, but for forcing SEGA's hand, ditching them when SEGA needed them on board the Dreamcast and shitty practises.

I know people hate Nintendo, and I don't agree with most of their business practises, but EA are just a horrible company that needs to go bankrupt...the developers can all branch off to better companies (Sony being one of them).

I don't like Activision either, they do the same shit as EA and get off more lightly because everyone laughs at their COD games being milked.

DRM needs to not be on disc based games...seriously. I made a rant in the "Divorced" thread (if you don't get the joke, look up X1 in Japanese), and I feel the same way here.

I do respect Sony, they have good ideas and do things different to both SEGA and Nintendo, but if they decide to go ahead with this, I will lose so much respect for them and wait until the tail-end of Next Gen to buy the console.

**I also hate Capcom, but that conversation is for another topic.
