Whoop whoop! All aboard the localization physical release train!

No Europe announcement yet... and SEGA Europe has not done well the past month in following up SEGA of America with their own announcement. But hey, I live in the US so I don't care about anybody but myself (kidding).

Really interested in trying a franchise I never played before. Diving into the third in a series reminds me a bit of Sakura Wars: So Long My Love, which was also standalone in nature but was quite far along in the series.

Good to see Atlus rubbing off on SEGA America with them now suddenly localizing a lot more games. Now they just need to rub off on SEGA Europe as well, it was already disappointing to not see them bring over any of Atlus' games and now they're seemingly doing the same with the company's own games. That or they have problems with distribution or something.

I never thought i'd ever be able to play a 7th dragon game. I expected 3ds support dwindling down a lot by now but the contrary seems to be happening.

I just placed a pre-order on Amazon for 3D Classics and Valkyria Remastered and it felt really weird. Then I realized it was the first physical SEGA pre-order I've made since 2014.

^signs of better times hopefully :). With how barren things have been SEGA wise, you kind of forget how exciting it can feel when news like this comes up. Heck sometimes I even forget how much I even care about SEGA. But then I see anouncements like this that get me more excited than anything.

sega, is everything, like, okay guys? you never localize your games and now you're just like, doing all this shit? are you feeling well? do you need a glass of water?

I'm very happy something like this is happening, even if it's a game I won't be playing.

During SEGA's heaviest release periods, I would have probably ignored a game like this. But given we are coming off such a dry spell, I'll be picking up as many games as I can from them. So I am very much looking forward to 7th Dragon despite it not being a game I'd typically get. Also, never know how limited the print run is. Especially with RPGs, those can shoot up in price.

To people who want to experience this series' previous titles in English:

Since there's next to nill chance ether game will be localized, you can find an English patch for the first game (NDS) and the same patch creator is working on the patch for 7thD:2020 (PSP) and hopes to have it done by end of Q1.

Both can be found here at cavespeak.org

Huge news that 7thD-3 is getting localized. The series has kind of gained a cult following. Sure to be a hit.

I've only played the first one. It's Phantasy Star 4 exploration/battles meets Etrian Odyssey party building. Quality Stuff. Yuzo Koshiro does the music for all games I believe. Nuff said.

Why publishers do this I never know.  ;)   If we learn a thing about comedy, it's that covering it up makes it more obvious that it's there in front of us and more suggestive.

From what I've gathered, it might an issue with the ESRB.  It's silly, of course, but nothing major to be concerned.

I guess it's something SEGA learned from Atlus too.
Anyone remember the censoring in Stella Glow's cover art?

That isn't a big deal to me. Really, its very minor. If anything it would make buying the game less embarrassing. I'm a damn adult, why do I want to go into a store and buy a game with a 12 year old anime girls ass cheeks hanging out?

Isn't that the whole point? I'm a damn adult, if I want some TnA on the boxart why shouldn't it have some?

It should be noted that it appears the censoring is only on the cover art. The website and promo materials are still untouched. Must just be an ESRB packaging thing. SEGA can put what they want elsewhere, but the cover art has strict guidelines.

I looked at the boxart and....eh? There's hardly any arse to even see!

Either way, it's a little odd to cover a pixel or two of skin of a character I will likely not look at in that way regardless.

I own Senran Kagura (EU Physical Copy), and bought it online so I don't honestly care about boobs and stuff being on cover art....in this case I see it as America being too squeaky clean over something not really considered all that bad.

I am not too bothered about the Box Art though, it just adds an extra flower on the cover art!

We can whine about a flower covering a few pixels of a anime girls ass or we can just play the game and not be affected. ESRB sucks, what did you expect?

SEGA of America (thanks to Atlus USA) are killing it. It's February and we already have three confirmed physical releases with special launch edition materials. I know in the past, SEGA did that with stuff like Alien: Isolation, Sonic Lost World, Generations, All-Stars Racing Transformed, but those were all digital bonuses. Getting physical goodies finally is awesome, and it bodes well for other games like whatever they have planned for Sonic and Yakuza 0.

I really do think that had Yakuza 5 been announced later we would have had a physical edition with a cool bonus, but it was done during SEGA's transition when they were warming up to localization but weren't sold on physical media for every home console release.

I think it goes to show how Atlus is basically calling the management shots over at SEGA America, exciting times for US based SEGA fans.

Shame SEGA Europe are just doing their own thing instead and catering to the PC market only, only blemish in all this I feel.

Yeah, I do feel sorry for European fans.

But I'll admit, given I'm in America and dealing with the good, it is very hard for me to feel angry towards SEGA. George and I get a ton of flack for not dogging SEGA Europe for lack of releases, but thing is we are simply not experiencing it ourselves so it is very hard to make it our priority. Part of the reason we want to bring on a few new writers, including a UK person, for that perspective. Also, hounding SEGA Europe on Twitter and Facebook would only hurt SEGAbits future chances at working with them. I do, however, try and mention "Still no word on a European release" when I can in articles.

Oh, haha. I noticed that when you click SEGA Amazon links on their microsites it has the Atlus Amazon Affiliate tag.

I mean no region locking in the first place woulda fixed that. But I honestly just want a european version. I dont own a single imported game on any platform, and I never planned to do so. I can wait, but it would suck real hard if we didnt get anything at all

If you hax your 3DS you can at least play it. If all you want is to region unlock your console, it's really easy and safe to do. Only you'll have to do it everytime you turn on your console which is a bummer

Good news to anyone who wants to play the older games. The English patch for the 7th Dragon 2020 is now available.

You can get the details and download the patch at cavespeak.org

I haven't had a chance to try it out yet since I'm at work, but the same patch creator did the English patch for 7th Dragon (NDS) which was flawless.

I can tell by the screen caps of VFD that all the games are connected storywise, so with a couple months to burn before VFD comes out this is the perfect chance to get fully caught up.

I'll hack my 3DS once Nintendo stops supporting it. I just hate the possibility of screwing up a console when it is still being updated by the company and has an infrastructure. I've just recently started messing with my Wii. Wait... that last bit came out wrong.

It's pretty safe tho.. And you can keep updating your console.
In fact, if all you want is region unlocking, it's as simple has opening a website.

I'm not sure how easy it is because I didn't do it on my own. But it seemed pretty complicated compared to the Wii I think? Either way the only big pro seems to be region locking right now, there's loads of better platforms for homebrew. Its fun for experimenting I guess. Basically I dont think its worth hacking the 3ds if region locking isnt an issue for you. I still hope this and the classic collection get EU anouncements  >:(

Huh dude, you can literally download every single 3ds game for free if you go all the way.
There are various hack levels. For region unlock you just reset your 3ds clock and open a website. That's it

Finally got a chance to sit down and sink some hours into 7thD2020. It's sooo godly. Gorgeous enemy and attack animations, detailed locales, perfect musical score. Everything a jrpg should be. Well everything a jrpg should be, if you can stand the chibi models. Thankfully VFD is fixing that.

Loving all the 7th Dragon games. True rebirth of Phantasy Star if you ask me.

also, this bunny character has a dirty mouth

Anyone else feel like the Agent class is kind of overpowered? I mean with the Hack gimmick you can do really stupid stuff that forces the enemy into a stalemate.

I think i've read the same thing somewhere else. Not a fan of imbalances in games. Is it that bad cuz I might have to avoid the class then.

The game in general seems kind of easy to exploit.

You know the Dragonbane Seed DLC thing? A game breaking thing with that is using the Samurai class and Cyclone Dance. Normally with the Dragonbane Seed enemies they receive 1 damage per hit, meaning that with most attacks you'll only be able to inflict one or two hits at a time, and consequently increase the odds of them escaping. Cyclone Dance hits targets multiple times and it hits everyone, with each upgrade increasing the amount of hits. You also get it as soon as you make a Samurai, so there's hardly any grinding, baring maybe buffing it for maximum efficiency.

Also you can replay this particular DLC multiple times.

With this in mind, you can gain levels and skill points at a very ludicrous rate and basically make the game a cake walk.

Today I went back to back playing 7th dragon 2020 (translation)on psp and the new 7th dragon 3DS. Ive recently got a psp again so I thought to play the original psp games first before moving on to 3DS.

I gotta say that the psp games feel very dated. Not only that, but the 3DS game is actually really good. I'm guessing that for its time it wasnt bad. And for this time now maybe the new 7th dragon isnt all that impressive. Its expected that a sequel should be better but I think im just gonna forget about them and go straight to the 3ds game.

The music is fantastic in all the games, but also the music has a nicer mellow thing to it in 3.

Im basing my impressions on the demo so far, but im most definitly gonna get this.

Oh yeH, the demo recently came out on eshop so u can try it too.
