Castle of Cagliostro is one of my all time favourites! Make sure you watch Porco Rosso as well, thats another great Miyazaki movie. About a mercenary fighter pilot in Italy during the rise of facism, he's cursed to have a pig's head for what he saw in the War.

I'll have to make Porco Rosso one of the next Miyazaki movies I check out.

I watched A Serious Man the other day. It's up for best picture, and it's a Coen Bros. movie, so I figured it would be a pretty safe bet.
It was pretty funny in parts. It was about a guy who's kinda like a real life Charlie Brown (just can't seem to catch a break).  The only part that kinda pissed me off was the ending.  And I actually appreciated the ending of No Country For Old Men.
Minor spoilers:
After building up throughout the movie, it just stops....roll credits
Other than that, it was an alright movie, but definitely not one of the best I've seen from last year.

I watched the remake of The Longest Yard for the first time.
It was a pretty funny movie. Not the greatest, but about average for an Adam Sandler movie. There were a lot of the trademark bits thrown in there.
I'd say it's worth seeing for Kevin Nash's estrogen induced behaviour alone.

Saw Sicko doc the other day. Makes me sick at the shitty health insurance system we have in the United States.

Saw the Informant, pretty alright movie, though I didn't think it was funny, more interesting.

Saw Watchmen on Bluray the other day and the picture quality is really nice, the only issue is that HD makes some of the CGI look really really fake. Like when Dr. Manhattan is in Mars and erecting (no pun intended) the pointy tower, looked really fake.

Saw Saving Private Ryan for the first time, in "preparation" for The Pacific which is coming son. Pretty awesome stuff. I wonder why I didn't see it before.

Saw Fanboys last night.

I very big meh, a recycled road-trip movie, but with a bunch of Star Wars geeks spouting endless puns and quotes from the original movies.

Had this movie come out a year or so after Episode 3 it might have been funnier, but years later, it's charm has just gone away...

The one part where Trekkies clash with our SW fans is midly creative and entertaining, but the rest... hmm just bored me.

OK, the Ewok allucination scene was funny too, but that still doesn't make it a great movie.

I picked up Ponyo on Blu Ray yesterday. It's Miyazaki, so it's pretty much guaranteed to be great.
The visuals were really impressive though.  The way they animated the water throughout was fantastic.  Tons of personality in every little character, especially Ponyo.
While extremely impulsive, Ponyo has got to be on of the most endearing characters I can remember in a very long time.

Watched The Hangover and Push last night.

The Hangover is a great comedy flick.

Push is a low budget X-men rip-off that's pretty bland and boring.

I quite liked that movie, saw it at the cinemas a while back. As you said, it's not a full blown comedy or anything, but it had some great moments, particularly his monologues.

"Polar bears wait for their prey while holding a paw over their nose. They know that their black nose gives them away in the white snow. I wonder how they realised they had black noses? looking at other bears? Did they see their reflection in the water?

Either way, that's pretty smart for a bear..."

Flags of our Fathers. I was expecting a Band of Brothers type of thing. How wrong I was. This film is about a photo. It was pretty interesting nonetheless, albeit a bit tiring by the final 30 minutes. I was expecting a lot more from the shooting scenes.

Letters from Iwo Jima is next. It's a companion film I hear, telling the other side of the story.

Hehe, I liked Fanboys. Better than I thought it would be. It helped that I listened to the Star Wars podcast TheForceCast in which the Fanboys director was a regular guest. It took a lot of work to get that movie made! Fuckin' Weinsteins tried to cut the whole cancer subplot.
