Favourite childhood toys!
« on: December 30, 2010, 03:40:13 pm »
So, besides anything video game related... What was your favourite childhood toy?

When I was a kid I played with a few toys...

I think the first toys I was really inclined to buy was action figures of the Ninja Turtles... I think I got three of them in the end.

Then I got a little older and I collected SMURFs for a start, the hard plastic figures... They were always great fun and I still have them.

Finally I moved onto collect StarWars figures around the age of 10-14 after the wonder that is star wars took a hold of my Childs mind...
It is a shame I didn't have the will power as a child not to open the boxes... unfortunately all are well played with. Now they are in the attic in a box. I'll never get rid of them.

It is also worth mentioning that, I had a Sonic soft toy. I bought it in 1992 with my mother in the now out of business store 'woolworths' and it still sits in my room on my shelf.

Similar to this one, but an older model.

WHAT ABOUT YOU?!

Ninja Turtles were the big thing for me growing up too. I had tons of them, and the vehicles too.

After that, I transitioned into Power Rangers (specifically the MegaZords), and Beast Wars Transformers. Like this one:

After that it was mostly the super hero action figures. A pretty even assortment of Marvel and DC.

Pretty much anything LEGO.

My favourite was that huge-ass pirate ship. I think this is the one I had;

Lego was fun! I had a whole draw of it under my bed... It was mostly handed down from my older brother to me. Although sometimes I would be given Lego sets like that ship above…

But I didn't have the patience of will power to complete these things! So usually I’d just make BADASS SPACESHIPS and flew them around the house irritating my folks with loud, obnoxious, spitty rocket sounds.

Now I do that to my girlfriend, with out the lego.

I had quite a bit, since I was spoiled as a kid. I have a variety of Ninja Turtle action figures, including a ton of odd ball stuff they released, like Baseball turtles lol.

My cousin was into Stone Protectors, these 'Troll dolls' basically aimed at young kids. That mean't I had to buy them too.

I was also into Tiny Toons, so I had a plushie of Buster Bunny.

I also had...

Almost forgot about Street Sharks.
I had the tiger shark.

Oh, and there was Bucky 0'Hare.
I had a good chunk of those toys.

Bucky 0'Hare
HOLY DONKEY!

I honestly didn't think anyone would even know what that was so I didn't bother to mention it... Stick have Bucky sitting on my shelf right next to Sonic.
He's a keeper!

Bucky O'Hare was pretty fantastic. Haven't seen it on TV in a very, very long time though.

Pretty sure it only had 13 cartoons... in total before being cancelled. Which is a shame... Although there is also a game and a novel!

That's wild. It seemed like such a big thing when I was little. Time seems to go by a lot slower when you're young.
I was probably obsessed with it for a year, wondered what happened to it for a bit, and then got hooked on something else.
So many shows from back then have stuck with me over the years, like Denver the Last Dinosaur and Captain Planet.

I was really, really into Darkwing Duck and had all of those toys when they were new. Then after that I had mostly generic stuff, like Street Sharks and "Extreme Dinosaurs", but when I got older I had tons of Earthworm Jim (JIM'S FUGGIN HEAD KEPT BREAKING) and Beast Wars: Transformers figures (Depth Charge 4 life), there was also a brief period where I had a good amount of Digimon stuff. Badass, I know.

I was not able to afford too many toys usually and if I would receive any money I preferred games instead. I did not have many of the most common toys other kids would have, like LEGOs and water guns either.

Something I always wanted was a Sonic action figure. I always always always wanted to find one in the store, but it just never happened. I never was able to find the terrible ReSaurus figures later on or anything either, but I am not too upset about that. I recently learned of a Robotnik and Metal Sonic bundle though... Might get that even though it is made for people less than half my age.

I always pictured the perfect Sonic toy being able to turn into a bouncy ball, now if he had any special feature it would be like his heart glowing or something lame like that.

My top favorites would have to be the playsets:

@Barry:
You were the kid I always looked up too.
I couldn't manage to talk my mom into picking up any of those sets until the Batman Forever Batcave. (I used the Batman Returns Batmobile in it, instead of the crappy one from Forever).

Animal toys because I loved animals back then.
Also Quartet (card games).
Use to collect every series of quartets when I was a kid, and played them with my friends or brother/sister.
