The 1990's was the pinnacle of art itself. Then computers happen. Finally internet. Then anti-privacy.

So in that retrospective. I look at X-men and I just do not get that energy from them anymore. It is like they adopted the Batman CH11 artwork, and made it more cheap; more blander looking; and more lame. I mean it is like the writers are writing something but they lost that spunk they had.

It is more like the Comics themselves have lost their soul. People are saying "oh well this was real" or "oh well that" and you know what??? As an adult I appreciate the cartoonish or fast paced action of what I grewed up with.

I went through my Stan-crap-SouthPark state of mind ( since 2001-2011 ) and even tried to resist that. Then I realize hey the civil-rights movement is still on; and everybody is trying to hurt everybody. Big fish eats little fish; snake eats snake; and so forth. So I am like an goldfish out of water right now; crawling through the veins of a Snakes body avoiding death ( silly isn't ).

Seriously X-men. What the blazes happen???? We had this thing and then it basically went out the window. It was beautiful and creative; not just oh look their is Storm. She is walking around with proffessor X. Their goes Logan he is jealous of Jean for her relationship with cyclopse. Blah blah a bunch of bs over and over again.

Why 1990's? Because at that point they had the respect for the original stories. When it ended; they turned everything into one big fan festival with over dramatic dramatized stories. By the mid-1990's their was manga; being wild and crazy; childish and alive ( with stories from the 1970's ). Finally videogames.

Then the art; look at the art. I mean nowadays. I love the manga/anime etc Japanese comics type look but Marvel is not doing that. They are also removing the animated look to their characters.

YOU KNOW WHAT FORGET MARVEL.  THEY ARE OWNED BY DISNEY

First off. When we say Comics we mean story being told through words and images. That is what the primary definition is. Most comics in USA are action comics. Comics through out the world ( the European world ) is graphic novels. Comics from Japan ( which most areas in the east mimics are mostly called Manga ).

I will admit I would feel that way a long time ago. But nowadays looking at "Tank Girl" "Scud" "Cutey Bunny" and so forth I have an change of heart.

The problem with comic books from the west; is that they show old old adults, or people who athletically perfected. They never show normal sized people. To make things worst ( which I had to grow over ) because the west have racism and because people always find fault with things like that;
like age of consent; and even religious factors. They avoid telling a story from a certain prospective.
Many of the comic artists are forced into the corner into making characters that are PHOTOGENIC. Their are signs of race designations. Only recently ( like now now ) they use more representive features; as with the Manga.

To make things worst we basically slide manga under the "Graphic Novel" area. As that is where all "Independent" books sit. Independent means you do your own thing; your own story, your own way. It is an EXPERIMENTAL. However graphic novels usually have alternative means of generating imagery.

Personally Marvel itself had mostly ACTION BOOKS. Meaning a person running around in their underwear doing a job of an law biding SUPERMAN. That is what ACTION COMICS were. At that time. Before that many comics were either childrens cartoons; shorts or illustrative books ( meaning pictures with words underneath ( typical children book ). We had many strips like "Dick Tracy" and "Tarzan" that stuck around.

Before before that all comics are from the illustrative realm with the earliest being cave paintings and hieroglyphics until print was common.

Nowadays we have many options for print from the standard film developed plates to the low-cost on demand of laser printing. So we have tons of comics for everybody.

...........

The one key difference in comcs is that many get it's own reproduction by various artist. Which can be fun and lead to new characters being created in various universes. Take how "Spider-man" got it's own series in Japan; which lead to the same TV show. Eventually lead to Power Rangers ( amazingly this is true ).

When we see PR mostly we think about "Policeman" but for them it is more like "Samurai" and things like that. Upholding the law and things like that. Then "Magical Girl" is mostly an "What If/Reversal" version of that. Take the "DevilWoman" series which is an What If of "DevilMan". If you do not know what DM it came before that series with sword wielding madman. Then "Violent Jack" came along and blew away "MadMax" and "Fist of the NorthStar" which is really an usage of "Bruce Lee" and everything else...uptil.

I understand your pain but I and we have to accept everything into our hearts.

Well the stories. The thing is we can write anything but now with Disney I don't know how things are going to be handled. The same with Starwars. Lucas said he needed the funding to do more SW movies and that funding is out of his hands. So he just decided to sell. Marvel just did not want to belly-flop it's way into the bin.

Stories....yeah I will admit stories was never a big concern ever. I don't know about recently. I wish they would make up something new instead o rehashing the same material. In fact speaking of rehashing I really could go for a great comeback of a certain Villian team if you know what I mean.

Well, Disney has owned Marvel for quite some time now and there hasn't been a huge shift in stories thus far. Although i will say that having Black Cap and Female Thor are probably their doing.

Nah most likely isn't Disney's doing at all. One thing that Disney like is consistency and one thing (in history) that Marvel loves is 'diversity'. This whole 'diversity' in comics has been a hot button topic for awhile. I doubt CEO's at Disney care what Marvel Comic does. They have their own dude in charge, if he wants to risk his job doing stuff like this, I'm sure they will be OK and change it if it doesn't work. That's how its done.

DC Comics and Marvel have both been trying really hard to appeal to a wider fanbase but I think Marvel is all wrong.

First Thor as a woman? Why would girls care? Why not make your actual girl heroes more interesting? Like DC Comics just re-designed Batgirl and it has gotten really positive feedback from girls online and already has plenty of cosplay (even if the first issue is yet to hit newstands with the new outfit)

Don't like action comics I see?

I know there are tons of works out their; especially recently that attempts to feature young adults or ordinary people ( not super people ). However what they show is either people who are limited in what they can do? Or the situations are obvious. Then again

Can you name some series?

I am not talking about action comics stand alone?

Ever read "Everything Jake" or "Sex and Violence" . The bigger issue is when making material for everybody ( this means the churchie mom, the grandma, and the little ones ). That is the thing with comics in the west. You can't make material that shows poor/sloppy people. Or in most cases we can't show things that is not sellable to the younglings.

Quote
capeshit

More of that negativity. The nature of a cartoon ( a real cartoon ) is the delight the adults while being viewable by children. Children ( like we were ) interpret things the way they want to.

On the adult side we can see things that is about our personal lives, current events, trending, and so forth. Even in Sonic we can see this. Take Sonic.....He live on tropical island; tails is an mutant of pollution. Robotnik is a selfish human doing harm to animals for selfish purposes. On one hand why not root for Robotnik??? Then again they show that Robotnik turns the world into filth for his own selfish desires. To make things worst they make him super selfish were he puts up Casino's and destroys the planets atmosphere. Because he is from outer space. So that is another story all together. All the kid really see is the good guy badguy bit. They can never root for the underdog ( eggman ) at all. Or validate his activities.

How do you define 'Action Comics'? I do enjoy comics with action if that's what you mean, but most Superhero stuff I really don't enjoy much. I call it capeshit because I'm a negative asshole and I also find the term funny.

When you ask for examples, you mean of stuff I read?
Here's what I'm reading now for example:
Caliban
Pretty Deadly
East of West
Lazarus
Manifest Destiny
Ten Grand
The Auteur (although it just finished)

I should also mention that I do enjoy a lot of Marvel works and some superhero stuff, but I just find that most of the time I pick it up I'm dissapointed. I would rank All Star Superman, Dark Knight Returns, all of Garth Ennis Punisher and all of Rucka's Punisher amongst my favourite comics/series, for example.

All Star Superman was fantastic, if you liked that i recommend Superman: Red Son. Crazy story about what it would have been like had Superman landed in Soviet Russia rather than the U.S.

Some "capeshit" comics are good, you just need to find the right ones.

I agree, you'll notice that I listed a lot that I really enjoy, it's just a shame that most seem to be terrible. I tried getting into Elektra and Ghost Rider re-launches but couldn't get past issue 2 and 1 respectively.
Even Punisher's new LA series was and is kind of dicey, although that's coming off Rucka's run which is probably one of the best of all time.
