How SEGA-AM2 changed video gaming : Pioneered 3D Gaming

Quote
Once the 90’s came around, AM2 hit full force developing their model 1 arcade board in 1992.
It was the first arcade board that could run 3D games at 60fps with multiple players on the screen.
The first game that AM2 created with the new board was Virtua Racing.
Even though the game broke new ground at the time it wasn’t the first 3D racing game release.
That would go to Namco’s Winning Run in 1988.
Next AM2 would take on the fighting genre with Virtua Fighter, showing the power of their Model 1 arcade board by rendering human characters with full facial animation.
This game laid the groundwork for later 3D fighters including Tekken and Dead or Alive.

Interview with Michael Latham (Eternal Champions's Executive Producer)

Quote
Larcen is my favorite character. I love his time period, fighting style, and look.
Most people assume that Shadow is my favorite female character as she is the most popular for sure, but when I play I love Jetta.
I was always a Chun Li player in SF, Jetta has that speed and air attacks that I really love.

SAVAGE HEROES
A Cancelled Sega Genesis SFII Style Fighting Game

Quote
There was a lot of enthusiasm for the game internally, but we ran into several issues that lead to the game’s demise.
1) It was a very ambitious idea that really should have been on a more powerful platform,
2) the developer we used for the prototype just wasn’t very good.
When the prototype wasn’t very good, enthusiasm started to fade

"I don’t want to forget to mention a game called Eternal Champions, which comes out at the end of this year.
It’s a fighting game, but the characters are two or three times as large as those typically found in these types of games."

New Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC Character Seemingly Hinted At ...

Quote
There are five empty slots in the voice files, but there are only four DLC character slots left.
In other words, it suggests one of these characters will take up two voice files, which in turn hints at the character having a gender alt or possibly a side-kick.

Interview: Steven Lashower (SOA Progammer)

Quote
"I don’t think any of us had any idea of how big Eternal Champion was going to be until Mark came in one day with a box of Electronic Gaming Monthly magazines with Eternal Champions taking up the entire front cover.
Sega had an amazing marketing department at the time and although Mike Latham is generally credited with the design, don’t discount the work he did in getting marketing motivated about the title.
Unfortunately, once marketing got excited about EC, we also had a drop-dead ship date"

Trivia : Net Fighter Almost Had Eternal Champions Characters
Interview: Michael Latham (Head of SOA Omega Group)

Quote
"Sega of Japan felt that Eternal Champions was keeping Virtua Fighter from being more successful in the US and that it would be better if the company focused on only one franchise…and as Sega is a Japanese company, the Japan side won.
Even when we did the NetFighter project for Heat.net, we weren’t able to use the Eternal characters as a hidden bonus.
From Japan’s view the game never existed, in spite of its stellar sales and even offers to do comic books and a cartoon around it."

Tournament of Legends (Wii) Developer Interview

Quote
Wii is an amazing platform but asking us to choose a favorite is like asking a parent to choose a favorite child. (laughs)
We decided to release Tournament of Legends on the Wii for two reasons:
first, the gameplay was designed specifically for the platform and second, building on our Quantum3 technology, we were able to take advantage of all of the bells and whistles that we used in The Conduit right from the start.

It is the first arcade fighting game to incorporate touch screen controls.
Suzuki says the manga Babel II was his main inspiration in the creation of this game
Shortly after location testing in 2005, its planned 2006 wide release was cancelled as Sega’s finances declined.
