Bleemcast: Metal Gear Solid
« on: January 09, 2011, 01:25:11 pm »
Hey, I'm thinking about getting a copy of Bleemcast: MGS.
Tho I'm not to sure how it works.
Do you use it as a bootdisc for the PS1 version?

Or what...
And from my understanding it takes up the whole memory card right?

Can someone help a poor MGS + Dreamcast fan lol

From what I gather, it's a boot disc for the PS1 game, so you still need the game separately.
The reason that it takes up a whole memory card, is that the card needs to be formatted as a PSone memory card.

If you have a Gamecube or Wii just get White Snake, it is a remake of the original.

Twin Snakes.
Whitesnake is a hair metal band from the 80's.

I had a lot of fun with the remake, especially the cutscenes were awesome to look at, but they kind of messed up the story a bit and much of the level design was broken.

But yeah, Bleemcast is not worth getting. It is a neat gimmick, but not a real thing you should bother with. There is a special effect you can use on the PlayStation 2 that makes original PlayStation games look smoother, so that might be worth checking out too I guess.

Bleemcast uses Bilinear filtering, higher resolution, and several other neat tricks that the PS2 can not do.

Although the PS3 can, as Rand Linden now works for Sony, imagine that.

I've tried the filter on PS3. It looks a lot nicer on PS2 games than it does on PSone games. They go from pixilated, but clearly defined textures, to an N64 smearfest.

I'm a big fan of the Gamecube version of MGS as well. It was the first Metal Gear game that I ever played, and it made it a bit tough to get into the PSone version afterward.
