I don't remember the DS having such a terrible launch line up as the 3DS.

I do. Even though the launch games were interesting, they weren't any more "must have" than what 3DS is offering. I wasn't impressed until Kirby Canvas Curse, and didn't get the system until Mario Kart came out.

3DS already played its ace. Its 3D Is it, while the DS was its touch, which was used well with Canvas Curse.

Plus my favorite DS game was a launch game, Feel the Magic.

I'll be buying a NGP if the price is right. 3DS just seems shit to me.

Well I'm pleasantly surprised about the $249 price!

I like the price, I like the features, I like the compatibility with PSP games, so now I'd like to know what games actually launch with it. I won't get one at launch, but I wish I could. I also see very little stopping Sony from using Vita with PS3 as a Wii U alternative.

Sony already did this with some games on the PS3 using the PSP. IT wasn't popular due to obvious reasons (the users needed to have both a 600 dollar PS3 and 200 dollar PSP)

It wasn't popular cause they were streaming content to any inferior controller. Not the case with the Vita.

So is this going to have retail games , or is it strictly download-only?

Both.

Sony said that if a game is not good enough to be retail, it will be download. I assume it will have 4 tiers.

- Full PSP games.
- Minis
- PSN Vita games (Hustle Kings etc)
- Playstation Suite games (Cell phone games basically)

Bringing this back from the dead and making it the official Vita chat thread.

So I finally got to demo one at the store today, impressions:

Really impressed! The build feels solid, not too big and bulky. Very sleek and surprisingly lightweight! The screen size is freakin HUGE compared to past portables. Is it bigger than the PSP?

Graphics looked great.

Only downsides, for me at least, are price and the memory cards. To be fair, $249 is the price of an iPod Touch and I think the Vita is on that level. So it IS worth it, however that is the wi-fi only price and to be honest if I had $250 to spend on a Vita, I'd rather get a PS3 and a bunch of games I've yet to play, like Yakuza 3&4 and the Uncharted titles.

In 2012, I think I'll be getting a 3DS. For the price of a Vita I can get the system and a bunch of games (including older DS titles). 3DS, at the moment, has far more games that I want than Vita.

However, in 2013 I could totally see Vita being a must have. I'm sure the price will drop a little and there will be enough quality titles warranting a purchase.

@Barry:
How did the sticks feel? I like the idea of dual analog controls on a portable, but going with sticks instead of the sliders that the PSP and 3DS use worries me that they might get damaged easily in pockets and such. Do they stick out very far from the system itself?

I'm interested in a decent amount of the Vita games, but I'm in the wait for a price drop boat. Especially when it comes to the memory cards on the system. I've got 32GB of storage on my PSP Go. Getting near that on the Vita would cost a fortune :(.

Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Sound Shapes, Lumines: Electronic Symphony and Touch My Katamari look great though.

Sticks felt good! In fact, I almost felt like I was using a slider given how stout they were. I wish they were a little bigger, they felt kind of small, but I think thats just because I'm used to the PS2 controller.

I was surprised by how light it felt. Wonder how a non-tethered Vita would feel.

I can't wait for the Chinese knock off memory cards, I got one for PSP... 30 bucks for 16gb.

I thought it was good. Come on China, give me some decent prices.

I was also impressed with how light the system was, and the screen is super sexy. Maybe in a year or this winter I'll pick one up, but a PS3 will have to come first. Gravity Rush is the only game so far that makes me itch to play it.

@Barry:

I actually didn't like them as mush as I assumed I would. They don't push very far in any direction or offer any resistance to keep you at the lowest movement possible. I immediately worried that they wouldn't offer much range to really allow for analog movement, but I didn't notice any problems with Uncharted or Gravity Rush. They did feel fine under my thumbs, so that is what matters most.

Got my Vita along with Wipeout, Hotshots and Uncharted .

Gem of a machine with some of the best twin sticks ever made, and I've got to say the games are super tiny . Stunning Hand held that really does offer gfx like that of the 360 and PS3 in your hand.
