I kinda understand.
There were some games that I love the soundtracks so much so sometimes I boot up the system not to play the game but just to hear the soundtrack from the option menu.

It does make me wonder why they ported the OST to a Sega cart for a steam-only game... it doesn't even use a Sega IP 

I mean the description says the game is "inspired by" (among other games) Sonic, but IMO it just looks like a Celeste clone

Most likely it's more because of the graphics (and may be music too), not the gameplay.
Aureole - Wings of Hope uses 2D graphics.
2D graphics/Pixel graphics is usually associated with 16-Bit graphics (while 3D graphics is 32-Bit/64-Bit), which is why SEGA Genesis was chosen.

They are still focusing on Retro Barcelona event so no option from overseas to get this right now other than contacting them directly.
I heard Mega Cat Studios took an interest to release it so other countries could get it but I don't know how the deal went.

Pocket Bravery, a modern, independent 2D fighting game by Brazillian developer Statera Studio, has an official 16-bit port being worked on for the Genesis.
