Welcome to the thread in which you can express your random gaming thoughts that are unrelated to any other thread.
My thoughts right now: I really am hesitating to buy a new pokemon for the first time. Especially since I have a feeling that it may be redone on the Switch.
-
I'm not buying a Pokemon game ever again after being bamboozled into buying Pokemon Y
-

It was pretty run off the mill yeah. I think im gonna wait for long term impressions from players before I get one of them, otherwise i'll wait at least a year to see if there's gonna be a yellow type of deal.
-
I've been thinking to sell all wii u games but keeping the console itself(hack reasons). I wonder how much I could make with it. Nintendo games usually dont go down in value, but this is the Wii U. Could go up because of few prints, but could also go down because of little interest
-
Think it greatly depends on what Nintendo do. If they re-release the more popular Wii u games on the Switch, then the Wii u versions will probably decrease in value. The console itself will probably go up in price after a while due to people wanting it for their collection etc and it not really selling that well.
It's always a tricky one to risk, but personally, I have no issue in getting rid of mine. It was the final straw that will probably see me not buy another Nintendo console again.
-
Thanks for your input. I just put all games for sale. Now lets see how much I can get out of it. Not gonna lie I had quite the amount of games for Wii U, mostly 1st party. I could possibly get out of it as much as it would likely cost to get the Switch console. I'm not planning to get it soon just like you but in the case of Switch becoming a huge succes story with support from everywhere, I may jump in sooner than later. With that I mean probably a good year into the thing's life. I also need to know about the ergonomics of the thing because nintendo handhelds including the wii u gamepad have had shit ergonomics imho.
-
Really hate youtube thumbnails and how they spoil gaming moments sometimes. It just ruined a game for me recently showing the final boss. Like why the fuck would u do that.. sigh
-
I wanna get into the dragon quest franchise through dragon quest 7 and 8 on the 3ds. Anyone who played these games?
-
Sorry, never played them.
I really hate it when a game series jumps formats and it tends to make me not bother with it ever again. Things like, VC jumping from PS3 to the sequels going to PSP. Or Kingdom hearts to 3ds, or FF7 titles to PSP.
-
Opa Opa for the Sega Mark III (Fantasy Zone The Maze on Master System) is Classic Game Room's 2016 game of the year!
-
I don't remember Gta IV being this boring. What a slog..
-
In my mind, the Playstation 4 is clearly the best console on the market...
The PS4 of 2016/2017 is basically the Xbox 360 of 2008/2009/2010. Meaning that it has something for everybody, be it JRPGs(lots and lots of'em), be it smaller indie titles (some getting actual boxed releases) and major triple AAA titles.
-
You're wrong tho.
-
I'd say it is. PS4 has the financial stats to back it and unlike the Wii, the gamers too. It has the best versions of third parry titles and a huge selection of exclusive games on it with more to come.
If your thinking PC, that's not actually a console, so...
I have to wonder though, when will we hit the limit? The power can increase all it wants, but it's pretty clear that devs can't keep putting more in financially or mentally.
-
It also doesn't require the internet like the Xbox One does.
-
I think they stopped that before it was released due to the backlash and being a stupid idea. Xbox One is a nice machine, but the bad start really hit them which is a real shame. It sort of felt like MS picked up SEGA's torch when they bound out. Heck, the Xbox controller is pretty much a Dreamcast controller refined.
I'm really not a fan of these .5 gen leaps we're seeing in the console market, but hopefully it'll be rare thing than a normal thing as I can see it becoming quite damaging after a while.
-
Ps4 just had 3 great 3rd party exclusives xbox One didn't get.
Yakuza 0
Tales of Berseria
Nioh
I think at this point if you're a console gamer the decision is pretty obvious. Xbox definitely needs to step up its game and I do hope to see some competition.
-
It also doesn't require the internet like the Xbox One does.
That is also not even true.
And as a platform the Xbox completely obliterates the PS4. However, it has an unfortunate lack of exclusives, mainly because MS's previous gaming administration completely failed to gather indie support (which is absolutely essential this day and age).
I think the Xbox has better package and value in comparison with the PS4, however I believe the PS4 has a better game catalog, and that matters most.
The Scorpio won't be Xbox 1.5. It is effectively the fourth main Xbox unit.
-
I dunno. The Digital Foundry rumoured specs (they're usually quite accurate) aren't anything to shout about. The Scorpio looks set to sit just above the PS4 Pro in power.
-
I still remain of the opinion that software is a lot more imporant than hardware. Well nowadays 720p should at least be a minimum.
My point is that ps4 pro and scorpio are irrelevant to me and I hope this trend of midgen consoles wont influence the content on base models.
I get the scorpio. I get what microsoft wants to do with it, but they reeaaaaallly need to back it up with some solid exclusives. I know Microsoft can do a lot better than what they've been doing and it is time for them to bring actual competition in the software department. Scalebounds cancelation was simply unacceptable. That game was going to be dope despite its sales potential not being that great. Such a waste imo
-
What. The DF report is based on a leak and focuses on the techniques used to produce 4k image, which are indeed comparable to the PS4pro.
As for raw graphical/processing power, the numbers provided by MS are way beyond what the PS4 is capable of right now. Ofc these are biased, but they point at a generational shift. It's not a midgen console.
MS wants to implement the "iPhone model" in which there is a more frequent hardware release and software slowly follows it.
Legacy systems continue to play the newer games until a certain breaking point.
I find this concept a good compromise if done right. We will see.
As for games, I don't think the Scalebound cancelation is a problem. What's worrying is that there weren't much more games to get hyped with, which now translates into a drought.
Halo Wars 2 looks set to be excellent, but it's not enough game output for the moment. They need to step it up
-
Their plans dont seem bad, it's just that the momentum keeps getting disrupted. Seems like they could do a lot better which is what I would like to see. Sea of thieves looks interesting tbh and I do wish microsoft to have a breakout game but its dissapointing when stuff gets mishandled.
Scalebound was a huge game built from the ground up. It needed time and even without its cancellation it wouldnt have filled a drought soon, but I feel like it could have been handled better. Seems like a bunch of egos clashed behind the scenes, which could give away how microsoft is operates at the moment. Just my impresssion really..
-
Another way to put it is that Platinum Games has had troubled relationships and mediocre output ever since they left the Sega partnership.
-
I agree with Crackdude on this. I think Plat have a great creative team, but they've fallen a lot since the first few games. Has no one else noticed since Bayonetta/MGSR they've used the same system in every game but W101?
-
Please don't take me as a MS fanboy or wtv, I'm not.
But I do believe in their vision, and the way the new leadership was able to turn the Xbox around to being a great platform is outstanding.
Butchered game output now is a clean reflection of the state Microsoft's gaming division was in about 3 years ago. They must step up their game.
-
@crackdude
Oh, don't misunderstand me... I'm not bashing the Xbox One. Not at all. I owe Microsoft a lot for the Xbox 360. That console was mad awesome. It's just that in my mind, Sony made a better pitch with the Playstation 4.
-
That's what I really love about this generation. Never have two consoles been so similar in architecture but so different in vision.
Really excited for the next gen. I believe Sony took a gamble (and misstep) with the PS4 Pro. They need to bring their A game with the PS5.
-
I'm half tempted to remake some cases for some of my Dreamcast games at the moment. I'll keep the originals of coure, but as much as I like how different the DC PAL cases are, they're so brittle it's insane it got past tests.
-
I always wondered why Sonic music on genesis sounded so much better than most any other game on the same chip. Not only does it sound like night and day, it sounds as if it uses a whole advanced tech better than anything at the time. The sounds are so varied compared to other games which usually had what they call the distinct genesis sound, and this is from sonic 1. Well i aint forgettin streets of rage ofcourse. It's still really impressive.

get musicians and composers who know what they're doing, and you get good music in games.
guys like Jesper Kyd, Howard Drossin, Micahel Jackson even. haha. Also the composers to games like Space Harrier and Shining Force.
-
Didn't want to make a thread on this, but with it looking like Bayonetta is coming to the PC, I wonder if it's 1 and 2 bundled together? Seeing as Bayonetta 2 is currently only out for a now unsupported console, it would be nice to have another way to play it.
-
I really wonder how big the switch is going to actually be.

What if the bad guy in Comix Zone ran out of Ink? Would Sketch be able to finish the issue with no obstacles in his way?

Zombies Ate My Neighbors is a canon spin off to Day Of The tentacle.

Just what exactly did Big Smoke order in San Andreas?

There's been no leaks for E3 so far which is quite amazing really. Scorpio will hog the spotlight, but people are starting to wonder if Sony will at least hint at a PS5. Personally, I don't think it's a good idea as although it might be behind, PS4 has sold really well and they've only just brought out PSVR and Pro. It would be a huge middle finger to those people I feel.
To be honest, I'm probably sticking with my PC after this gen.

Yeah I don't think there will be any PS5 talk. It's like all the people hoping to see Dark Souls IV or Final Fantasy XVI, it's just too soon for any of those to be announced. (I know Dark Souls is supposedly done but I'm pretty sure that's not gonna be the case forever)
I've stuck with my PC ever since the beginning of this gen so E3 doesn't interest me much anymore. I'll check in on a few developers though
-
I have got a PS4 and I've had fun with it, but I'm just finding the console market moving futher away from it's purpose and with minor iterations now becoming a thing, I'm seeing more logic to just keep a PC. There's still physical versions and DRM free stuff, so I'm okay with buying them when available.
I'll still follow/watch E3 as it's a big industry show, but I tend to just buy on PC instead of the console version.
-
I disagree. The console market has always been like this. (Need I remember the endless upgrades on the PC-Engine, MegaDrive add-ons, N64 expansion packs, etc)
We've just reached a point where new tech increments don't necessarily mean a leap in graphical/gameplay fidelity, but rather a continuation and improvement of previous services and frameworks.
Keeping a PC has always been a viable option, however it offers a completely different experience and it's stagnating at an alarming rate. It will always be cheaper and easier to game on consoles
-
It is indeed cheaper and easier to have a console. I guess my tastes have changed as I've gotten older and as a lot of them are PC exclusives, I've just sort of made it my home for gaming.
-
Yea I feel you.
I was the same, but when I got married I gravitated back to console gaming, mainly because I don't enjoy being alone on the computer.
In fact, most PC exclusive games run on toasters anyway.. I'm begging to feel the gaming PC concept will devalue in time, when most machines will run anything.
-
The PC market is sort of weird. It's numbers are soild and I suspect they'll sort of stick around the current numbers, but the hardware sector has really slowed down in the last few years. This is good for people to pick up a PC that can pretty much play anything, but for gaming in general it's quite a bad thing. PC hardware eventually drops cheap enough that it'll be in the next console, but even with AMD's new Ryzen CPU's being rolled out, we've only seen a small amount of movement in prices really.
-
Mania and Forces has got me in the mood to play Sonic, so I've replayed the main three. Apart from the odd bad enemy placement I've enjoyed them, but the special stages...I don't know what it is about them, but I just don't like any of them. They're unforgiving, painful at times and just frustrating when just missing one can ruin the entire game.
-
git gud!
Play Sonic Pocket Adventure
-
Been trying for ages, but stupid little things end up throwing me out of the stages. Things completely out of my control and it quickly gets annoying.
-
Okay, I'm finally getting to grips with it now. Not sure why, but side scrollers can either click with me or not at random times. Still find it annoying how (not just Sonic) you can die from something out of your control mind.
-
Unpopular Opinion: Sonic Labyrinth is not that bad. It's playable. People are just impatient and want to run all the time. It plays more like Sonic 3D Blast and that's ok.
-
Someone finally admitted it: https://youtu.be/97tfphFX-Lc

Twilight Princess was my last zelda game. It wasn't my favorite entry and every zelda after just did not appeal to me at all. For that matter the gamecube was my last nintendo console. It also had Sonic Adventure 1 and 2. HINT HINT, SEGA.
-
Can't say I've enjoyed any Zelda game after Wind Waker personally. TP and SS had some awful design choices while Breath of the Wild's open world design just doesn't interest me. I used to like Nintendo for Starfox, Zelda, Pokèmon and Rare, but they've pretty much destroyed all of them, so I have little reason to bother with them now. Not a fan of Smash and I've found every Mario game really bland and lacking that creative spark that makes it different to other platformers.

Hey Shun-Di,
Have you played any point & click games you'd recommend lately? The last two I was looking forward to (Silence and Syberia 3) have sort of landed with a thud instead of the elegant dismount I had hoped for.

I dunno about new, but i have heard about some on handheld, like 999 (more like a visual novel) and Hotel Dusk for nintendo ds(sorta a point n click mystery game that's also kind of a visual novel...), Broken Sword series and Blazing Dragons for PS1, Snatcher and Policenauts, there is a remake of Maniac Mansion in the works, Victor Vector and Yondo series for PC/Mac (you'll need dosbox and prolly scummvm? it covers a lot of adventure games, but i think the Victor Vector series was made in Canada...) Telltale makes em still, but not as deep as lucasarts's golden oldies. I mean yeah stuff like walking dead offers multiple choice sorta, like choose your own adventure books almost.... ALMOST. Batman had one, Back to the Future had one, Strong Bad had one, Jurassic Park did i think? Game of Thrones.....meh. There's supposed to be another franchise they are adapting but I forgot which. haven't played any of their games since BTTF the game, and that gave me sorta closure for the trilogy.
New? don't have a good enough computer (still in the early 2000s. :p ) and don't have steam. If i did i would be trying all sorts of em. Not bold enough to try any on PSN, as my money usually goes to games I used to play as a kid like Wolfenstein 3D and Bomberman. I didn't play any of the Monkey Island games but I hear good things. The first 2 games are remastered on PSN for PS3, and Grim Fandango, Full Throttle, and Day of the Tentacle are for PS4 and Vita. Indiana Jones and the Fate of atlantis remastered got cancelled due to copyright, original version is on Staff of Kings for wii. There's a Monkey Island game for PS2, i think it's the 4th one? There's also the Myst series (no Journeyman Project collection or Frankenstein: Through the Eyes of The Monster yet. I hope Sega of Europe puts Frankenstein on Sega Forever someday as it was released for Saturn over there. :D One can only dream....)
I need to dig deeper for point n clicks

It's playable but the time limit made the game frustating.
It does look like Sonic 3D Blast (that's the best thing about the game, it looks wonderful on Gamegear) but it doesn't play like Sonic 3D Blast since in this game :
1. Sonic couldn't jump
2. Sonic couldn't reach higher place just by walking into them
3. Sonic walks too slow (it shouldn't be problem if there is no time limit)
4. The enemies could respawn and they always respawn instantly after the screen's changed.

1. it's like a top down computer adventure game
2. eh, game limitations
3. it's supposed to be slow. actually all the game gear sonics weren't that fast
4. it's like a nes game like ninja gaiden. challenging and only loads what's on screen.

Think I've played all of those hehe. Cheers though. I hear Wadjet eye games tend to be good, but I'm not a huge fan of pixel art games, so I'm not as interested in them. One I really enjoyed not long was King's Quest (the recent 3D game). That was really good I thought.
After Shenmue (take out the fighting and it's an adventure game at heart) I was really hoping for that to be the start of more 3D adventure games, but there seems to be a very small market for it :C

Tim wanted to keep em going, but Lucasarts wanted more action games. That's why Full Throttle never got a sequel.

Yeah, there's been quite a few studios lately that have moved awat from adventure games so it's no surprise. They just don't seem to make enough money for them to be financially viable. Daedalic stidios, Size Five Games, Double Fine (only remasters) or they've had to drop in quality like Microids have. Seems like hybrids like Life is Strange is the only way forward.

Shenmue 3 for me is the closest thing, and that's ok. :D

Interesting bit of infomation on Steam sales: https://twitter.com/danthat/status/891998922557804544
In short, people who would buy a game would have already have bought it before a steam sale. Those who buy purely on a sale are likely to leave bad reviews because of it not being what they thought it was. Because of this, devs are thinking about not dropping their games so much in a sale.

Crash Bandicoot 1-3 are just as hard in the remakes as they are in the original games. It's more like just the aesthetics were improved and that's it. Controls feel slightly different, but it's pretty much the same games. Honestly though I do prefer the PS1 originals. It's nice that all 3 are in one collection so I can't argue with that. It's a good deal. Now if only we could get CTR. :) Word on the street is Spyro is coming back too. Between Sonic, Crash, Spyro, and Bubsy, (even Yooka Laylee to a certain extent) it seems like 3d mascot platformers are making a comeback. Yeah they are challenging, but they're fun. I really don't see why so many people are complaining about the difficulty. I mean yeah I died in Crash alot as a kid. But I got better the more I played them. Same for Sonic Mania even though it's 2D. It's got some good old school challenges. I can't wait until people start speed running that game. It's gonna be amazing!

I kind of miss the days when there was still a huge synergy within SEGA and their franchises. With references pointed towards older games or other franchises. I wonder if there's staff even remembering the older work
