The SEGA Fan Quiz
« on: March 14, 2012, 11:11:44 am »
No, I haven't made one up yet, but I think it would be fun to create a short five to ten question quiz to test if somebody is a true blue SEGA fan or not.

Any ideas for questions? Here are mine:

• What is the earliest SEGA home console?
• Did SEGA die with the Dreamcast?
• Name one SEGA mascot besides Sonic.
• Name the development team behind Fighting Vipers, Beach Spikers and Outtrigger.

I agree, but only five to ten questions?  I'm thinking five hundred to seven hundred questions, with a very strict time limit!

  • What is the name of the organization Joe Musashi fought against in the original Shinobi?
  • What are the names of the three available songs in Out Run?
  • What is the name of the friendly dragon Space Harrier rides in bonus levels?
  • What food item does Alex Kidd eat in the map screens of Alex Kidd in Miracle World?
  • What was the name of the original, official Sega magazine/newsletter?

@Centrale:
I own 190 SEGA games, and I'm pretty sure I can only answer one of those.

Ha! I'll admit, those are some toughies, Centrale.

First question is a toughie.
Second one is a good one, though I'd say "name one song from OutRun" rather than all three.
Third question... I have no idea! Do they say it in-game? That's a pretty hardcore one.
Fourth question is a good one, though is the actual term needed? I want to say a rice ball but I had to look up the proper name: Onigiri. Hamburger would be another possible answer.
Fifth one should specify the region.

Are those tough?  I thought they were softballs, although definitely old school.  Well, okay, naming the friendly dragon is a pretty challenging one!

Good point about the fifth question, Barry.  I only know about the U.S. one.

Here are the answers I had in mind:

1. Zeed (In the sequel, they returned as Neo Zeed.)
2. Magical Sound Shower, Passing Breeze, Splash Wave
3. Euria
4. Onigiri in the original releases, hamburger in the Master System II built-in version
5. Sega Challenge

1. SG-1000
2. Aww hell no!  Although there sure are a lot of moaners, haters and bloviators who might argue they did.
3. Alex Kidd, Opa-Opa
4. That's a tough one for me... I'd have to look it up.

Perhaps tiers are in order?

My questions were meant to find out if somebody claiming to be a SEGA fan is in fact a SEGA fan. Those questions, I think, would at least prove that they know more than Genesis, Sonic and the Dreamcast. I'd imagine somebody would incorrectly say:

• What is the earliest SEGA home console? - Master System or Genesis (WRONG!)
• Did SEGA die with the Dreamcast? - No, but their games suck now (WRONG!)
• Name one SEGA mascot besides Sonic. - The guy from Shenmue or Ulala? (WRONG!)
• Name the development team behind Fighting Vipers, Beach Spikers and Outtrigger. - ...SEGA? (WRONG!)

Your questions would def be in the second (questions two and four) or third tier (questions one, three and five).

Yeah, I could imagine the whole thing arranged into various eras and categories, like home, arcade, etc.

Of course, every Sega fan starts somewhere.  Someone might be playing Binary Domain right now and it's the first Sega game they've ever played and then they say, I wonder what other games this company has made...?  So they might be a true fan but at the very beginning of many years of obsession to come.  ;)

SEGA fans starting in 2012!? Noooooo!

But really, I'd love to see that happen. They'd have YEARS of catching up to do, and would have to abstain from asking dumb questions like "Who is Yu Suzuki?"

1991 here, I've been playing through a lot of Master System and SG-1000 games via emulation. I've found that I have a very short attention span when it comes to the SG-1000 games, but love the Master System library.

Just one question.

Did you own a SEGA console in the '80's?

1) Nintendo Wii

2) What's a Dreamcast? That sounds gay.

3) Tails

4) Team Fighting Trigger-Spikes
