- We've hit a major milestone for the Megadrive version! Now all features and functionality are implemented, so we've shifted to rapid (and long hours) heavy testing, debugging, and polishing all aspects of the game as we go along.
- Due to this milestone, likely around the time of our next update video (or shortly thereafter) we'll be messaging the Kickstarter backers to see which of them want to participate in the final round of testing, which will involve spoilers and playing a not yet polished version of the game.
- All print stuff for the boxed Megadrive version are fully designed and ready to send to the printer.
- For the PC version, mike is making decent progress with continued development, bug fixing, and gameplay improvements, in part because his brother Chris has started helping him with it. (Shout out to Chris)
- Development continues at a good pace for the Neo Geo, there's short clips of level 1 and the WIP level 2 boss fight intro (which is still using the MegaDrive graphics, so not yet enhanced for Neo Geo)

Fan-Made Doom 64 Port for SEGA Dreamcast is Now The "Definitive" Version Of The Game

It has further boosted the game's performance while under load and is now something the rest of the DC community can utilize in their homebrew. This scene in particular used to lag using the traditional, DMA-based vertex submission mechanism with all of the lights and its higher geometric complexity, but notice it's not even dropping a frame now!
This update also includes support for the Dreamcast's mouse and keyboard, offering a "smooth, natural way to play the game."

PlayZine: How did the idea for Sovietborgs come about and who pitched it first?
Retro Sumus, Chui: I had the idea for Sovietborgs quite a while ago, the main concept anyway: uchrony,
what if the USSR won the Cold War, but at the same time throwing movies and shows from the 80s into the mix like, say, Rambo or Terminator. From there, we began to give shape to what we’re trying to do, using a comedic tone so no one takes it too seriously, basing the gameplay and overall feel on games we enjoyed like The Chaos Engine, or Cannon Fodder, and using pre-rendered graphics not unlike those seen on Donkey Kong Country or Vectorman, and so on.

And as a follow-up question, will Sovietborgs be as you envisioned from the beginning, or has it developed into something other than the first ideas?
Abel: I think it’s still pretty close to what we conceived, other than whatever technical limitations we may have found here and there, but we were mostly aware of them.
Chui: Perhaps little things like, there can’t be so many big enemies in this area of the stage due to memory / fps constraints, or we need to find an alternative for this or that animation that we thought would look better in motion, but ...
