What are you listening to?
« on: February 09, 2010, 02:24:17 pm »
I just picked up a few new CD's on my trip to the GN'R concert in Toronto on the 28th.
Skid Row's first album, Never Say Die! by Black Sabbath, and Odds & Sods by The Who.
I'm finally getting around to listening to Odds & Sods.  I'm pretty sure this makes it at least 3 versions of "Mary Anne With The Shaky Hand" that I own.  Solid stuff so far. It's pretty fun to hear The Who covering the Rolling Stones  (Under My Thumb).

I've been packing up boxes and found two old CDs that I thought I had lost. Crooked rain by pavement and songs for the deaf by qotsa.

The qotsa album is still pretty good. I remember I had to stop listening to it when driving as i kept speeding, a similar thing happened with hail to the thief by radiohead (although that was to stop me driving off a bridge).

I recently got Boxer by the National, I really liked Alligator and can't believe I waited so long to get it.

Songs for the Deaf is amazing. Although my favorite QOTSA album is Rated R, I can't recommend Songs for the Deaf enough.

You going to catch them live? I'm very excited about it. Though I still want to see Al (singer/bassist for Sleep) and Wino (Every doom band ever, including Saint Vitus) band Shrinebuilder.

As for listening to at the moment, I'm listening to Pelican's new album "What we all come to need."

I plan on it if they hit the midwest.

Pelican *sigh* . On New Years day I booked a show at my house that they were confirmed to play. I sent them a message as a joke, but they responded to it and were down to play as long as they were not advertised on the flyer. They pulled out on new years eve. The show went over really well without them but that would have been a mind numbing experience had they played.

Also it was most likly a inside joke for them at the thought playing a house show, now that they are superstars

I don't know if they consider themselves superstars, they are on Southern Lord label, or is that now a superstar label? Man, would have been a great story to tell if they showed up.

They are probably one of my favorite bands, so I would have been super jealous.

I was listenting to Girl from Ipanema a while ago. Quite a good and unique tune to it, I would like to hear a modern cover of it.

I also randomly found some old CDs from a radio station that did 'musical challenges' with the guests, where they got them to do a cover of a song completely out of their usual style.

You haven't lived until you've heard "Sex Bomb" sung by the Russian Red Army Choir.
