Nintendogs became a big hit in 2005 by appealing to casual and young gamers with cute puppies that the player could care for and interact with on the go. What Japan-exclusive Sega game introduced the same exact concept nearly a decade earlier?

@Berto

Sorry it took me so long to respond!! A lot of personal things came up -- didn't mean to derail the thread.

That's a great guess and you taught me about a game I wasn't aware of, but the title I'm looking for is five years older and, like Nintendogs, for a portable system.

Inu no Osanpo was released in 2001; the mystery game was released five years earlier in 1996.

Ah.. I forgot Ino no Osanpo's year release, thinking it was around 2005.
Then.... Tama and Friends?

Oh man, I'm starting to feel bad about my pick. "Tama & Friends" is another great guess, but that game is more of a minigame collection based on the "Tama & Friends" anime, which happened to star a cat. The game I'm looking for is a dedicated pet simulator (similar to "Nintendogs") that was also released for the Game Gear. It was part of a very short-lived series (only two games). Originally there was a cat version in July 1996, then in December of 1996 a dog version was released. What was the title of the dog version?
