Naka/Prope - Sonic 4, anyway they could've worked on it...
« on: February 17, 2010, 09:40:24 pm »
hypothetical..

Just to be clear what I'm asking..

Was there any scenario, however far fetched, that Sega could have approached Naka/Prope to reunite with Sonic Team and work on his creation, instead of the Dimps deal we have now..?

Purely hypothetical discussion..  It would be a fan dream to see that happen and likely create a better and more original product in keeping with the traditional fan's ideal vision of Sonic 4.

But I don't know, maybe Prope is too small and understaffed?  Maybe there would be some politics in the way of that ever happening?

Anyone informed want to chime in with their 2 cents I would appreciate it.

I don't think there's any question that Sega could have had Prope make the game if they wanted them to.

Sega owns Sonic, so they can hire anyone they please to work on it, and unless Prope really didn't want to do it, I don't see why they would turn down a guaranteed hit.

In the end though, I don't know if it would have been much better off with them. Wasn't Yuji Naka behind Shadow the Hedgehog? And Prope hasn't shown anything too special off lately either, Let's Tap was a mini-game fest (albeit with some funky new controls) and their other stuff has been i-phone/handheld games.

Naka said he did not want to make anymore Sonic games.

Plus he made Sonic Heroes and Billy Hatcher, not to mention all of his games under the Prope label suck or are generally just not that good. Basically he lost his touch.

Sonic Team has the ability to do it themselves, SEGA just did not go with them because DIMPS Sonic games are usually better received by the general press and fans.

To be honest , You can be sure that all the stage design and character  design is done and handle by Sonic Team Japan , and that goes for all Sonic Games .  DIMPS are just helping with  the coding duties , in much the same way  Travelers Tales handing  the coding of Sonic R, but all the design and documents were designed In-House by Sonic Team Japan  .

Its not different here

Well yeah, all of the art and concepts are Sonic Team's it has always been like that.

Maybe that is why Sonic Pocket Adventure is so good? I do not remember Sonic Team being mentioned on it, maybe DIMPS did it by themselves.

I had speculated that Dimps was the coder, not knowing for sure the extent of their involvement, so that is reassuring to know.

You can be sure all the game design is Sonic team Japan , even for the drivel that was the PSP game . If the game is good or bad  praise or blame Takashi Iizuka.
Actually Sonic Team is 1 of the few Teams inside SEGA that seem to  'Get It'
They willy really surprise a lot of people imo.

I have a so-so grasp on what makes up the current Sonic Team, so maybe some of you can answer:

What separates the Sonic '06 Sonic Team with the Sonic Unleashed Sonic Team? Was it a massive restructuring or are they two different teams within Sonic Team proper?

I ask because Unleashed is slick and a good Sonic game (8/10 in my eyes, better than anything after SA2) while '06 is a clear 1/10.

Silver the Hedgehog was a mish mashing of several teams and in the end with Naka leaving and everything, the whole project was totally poorly handled.

Sonic Unleashed were some long time people mixed in with some new.

Although the PR was still rather silly from both teams, especially Sonic Unleashed, making a game better than the Mega Drive titles... Haha.

You can thank the PS2 Shinobi Producer for the mess of Sonic 06. Simply Overwhelmed and out of his depth , in terms of managing  a Team over 150 people and the mullti million budget that comes with a Sonic game.

It looks nice enough , but I'm more into Sonic 3D games , than these people that Calmar for a 2D Sonic game . I wish for a Sonic game that's as Good as Sonic Adv 1, but with next gen graphics , Sonic Unleashed was a massive step forward to Achieving  goal imo
