What does AMS stand for?

A.M.S. are the the "Good Guys" of The House of the Dead series. I think they were based after S.T.A.R.S., their name being an acronym for Special Tactics And Rescue Service.
Question is, what does A.M.S. stand for?

My first guess was "American Millitary Service" but that makes no sense given, well that's just sounds like the American army. Thomas Rogan and G look more like government agents than soldiers even if they may have firearms training.

Other Acronyms in mind could be Anomalous Materials Something, as in it's their job to investigate and detain outbreaks caused by bioweapons or unknown substances.
Academy of Military Science, which I can believe given bioweapons are a form of military science. But Academy's are more for training than service.
That's all I thought of so far.

I always thought it's a wordplay from their R&D Departement (AM1, AM2, AM3) - AMS with S stand for Special.

It is likely AMS was named after Sega AM1 R&D Department.... but AM stands for "Amusement Machine".
I can't imagine the name carries in-lore. It wouldn't make sense.
