Personally, I'm not way into FPS... Halo being the exception. I like the imaginative setting, the controls are perfect and there is a big variety of weapon types and vehicles, so the game can be played to a large degree in whatever style you prefer. Even after playing it for a long time, the multiplayer matches routinely serve up new events and scenarios that I haven't seen before, as well as cool cinematic moments (not literally in the sense of cutscenes, but just organic events that seem like they would be great in a movie).
Destiny has more of a focus on co-op and the whole MMO leveling, loot collecting aspect. To me, that could be fun but probably only with some dedicated friends who are gonna go at the same pace (as opposed to one person getting way obsessed and leveling up much faster than anyone else). I think in that regard, it's going to be a much more forgiving experience than the typical arena FPS. Although there is a pvp mode in Destiny, I haven't even tried it yet. I don't think at this point it's going to feel like it has the depth and variety of Halo, because of the lack of vehicles.
Also, although there are some stunning vistas, I didn't really get the sense that the world is really vast. Maybe it's just the limitations of the beta, but it's not like you can really take off for that mountain off in the distance and explore it. It just seems like separate areas with distinct boundaries. And the "spaceship" is really just a menu screen. So overall, I'm not as into Destiny as I was hoping to be.
