Hey, so I'm lv 5 now and have been playing for a couple days.
[...]
-few bosses if any
You probably haven't played long enough, there's 2 minibosses (Forest Rockbear, Caves Caterdran) and 2 bosses (Caves Vol Dragon, City Dark Ragne).

Also, quests have to be unlocked, at level 7 you can unlock the forest free field through a client order.
After completing the free field once, you can unlock the Caves normal quests.
At level 10 you can unlock a mag.
After completing the Caves quests, you can unlock the Caves free field.

First, if I'm not mistaken, you have to complete B-3 in the matterboard, so you can do client orders.
Matterboard goals:
http://bumped.org/psublog/#goals

All client orders to unlock every quest and the mag come from this NPC in one of the quest counters (new client orders appear as a blue icon above her head, completed client orders appear as a green icon):

To unlock the Forest free field, first you need to be level 7 and complete all Forest quests once, and then complete the client order where you need to S rank the 3rd and 4th Forest quests in less than 20 minutes, and get 5 items that drop randomly in those quests (they will start appearing as item boxes similar to monomates, but yellow instead of green).

To unlock the Caves normal quests, you first need to complete the Forest free field once for the client order to appear, then in the client order you need to S rank the Forest free field in less than 20 minutes.

To unlock the mag, you need to be level 10 and do another client order from that NPC, you need to get 2 quest items that drop from the forest mini boss, Rockbear.

To unlock the Caves free field, you first need to complete all Caves quests, then you do the client order where you need to S rank the 2 last Caves quests in less than 20 minutes and get 5 items that drop randomly in those quests.

sega have a killer game right here
Yeah to me this may probably be the best SEGA game made in years. I havent felt this much satisfaction with a game in a long time, period. This game does so much right in the mmo derpartment, i wouldnt believe how any mmo fan wouldnt love this game.

I do however have some critisism. I liked how you were forced to kill all enemies in certain rooms in the original PSO. You can literally run past em in this game because there are no gates and doors. The multiparty area may be the reason, but I really think there should be more incentive to beat the enemies even when they are low leveled.

I also think the overall difficulty is... well its allright if you consider that this is just a beta of 2(occasional 3) environments. I think the city level is still not done yet, or at least I hope so.

Don't know if this was already posted here.

SEGA goes with different free-to-play model for PSO 2

Quote
Speaking in a Famitsu interview, as translated by Kotaku, series producer Satoshi Sakai explained that while Sega wanted to make the game free-to-play it didn't want to lock the full core gameplay experience away behind a series of pay walls.

Instead, it will only ask players to cough up for relatively minor enhancements like upgrades for their rooms, increased storage space or specific trading features.

"There is nothing that requires payment that will take away from the intrinsic game experience if they are not purchased," he said.

"By allowing a well made game like PSO to be accessible more people, we felt that we had a chance to teach people that 'This is what online RPGs are supposed to be like'."

Sound risky? Well, Satoshi believes it's a challenge worth taking on.

"We are seeking to create a business model that functions while still allowing PSO2 to remain as much of an enjoyable experience as possible," he added.

"I honestly think that Sega is the only maker that is willing to go this far. Even if we fail, if we can get people to say 'They were five years ahead of their time' then I'll have no regrets. I believe that there's meaning in the challenge itself."

Closed Beta extended until April 30, and there's going to be a fan briefing on May 3, where Sakai will talk about new features coming up after the next test (including new fields, new weapons, new story quests, ...).

Like the previous tests, there's a PSO2 closed beta survey.
The survey:

Translation of the survey, including a suggestion written in Japanese to put in the suggestions part (for those who want to put at least something there):

holy shit has this game grown on me.  Wonderful job sega.  Just include more environments (more than 4) and we'll be done.  Hopefully this catches on.  Because man alive is it sexy.

Closed Beta is over, during it I took a few random pictures, and also recorded a few videos. I plan on having all the videos uploaded by the end of the week, and once they're ready, I'll post them here.

I managed to have some great runs yesterday (couldn't play today for the end of the beta, so for me those runs were my final runs of the beta). Went through the Caves free field with my brother, we fought against Dark Ragne, then a boosted Dark Ragne, then another normal Dark Ragne, and in the end boss of the Caves we got a boosted Vol Dragon. :D
Also, as soon as we finished the Caves run, we also got to play through the emergency City mission.

Anyway, here are the random pictures I took during this week:

I have a lot more faith in this title after playing the closed beta.  That said, the desert area looks pretty awful.

Phantasy Star Online 2 Now Features a Desert Planet

Satoshi Sakai went on stage to present the 2nd Fan Briefing. He announced some of the results of the Closed Beta Test and introduced new features implemented in the Open Beta Test. Unfortunately the Open Beta Test dates were not announced today.

Later on PSO2 will implement a Desert Planet, new costumes, new story quests, and a time attack quest.  But for now let’s go through what’s actually coming in the Open Beta.

Quote
OBT: New Planet Lilipa

Lilipa: A harsh environment where the whole planet is covered in sand. It has the remains of a civilization that existed once before. In many places there are structures that mine resources from the planet.

http://bumped.org/psublog/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/lilipa.jpg

Desert: An area covered in sand. There’s hardly any traces of lifeforms, but there seems to be robots roaming about. They seem to have lost their masters and attack indiscriminately. The Arks have also confirmed the presence of the Darkers.

OBT: New Enemies

Gwanada: The Desert Boss, a large-sized Darker which lies hidden beneath the sand. Not only does it have large pincers, but it can easily manipulate its many tentacles.

http://bumped.org/psublog/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/guwanada.jpg

Gilnas: A large machine with a sturdy body. Within its body lies a hidden core. Unless you destroy the core, it will  attack you even if its body is scattered in pieces.

http://bumped.org/psublog/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/gilnas.jpg

Signogan: Medium sized robot that moves very quickly.

Phantasy Online 2 Fan Briefing 2nd Recap

http://bumped.org/psublog/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Saxy-Sakai.jpg

At the Phantasy Star Online 2 Fan Briefing 2nd, Sakai discussed new features coming up in the next test and beyond! Here are some stats from the previous Closed Beta Test.

- 147,000 CBT Client Downloads
- 131,000 people participated in the Beta.
- Average of 63,000 people login a day.
- 23,500 simultaneous connections.

During the Closed Beta, several disconnections and server issues occurred making the game somewhat unplayable. People also had a difficult time sending in bug reports as the official site ran slowly. Despite this, Phantasy Star Online 2 official release schedule will not change. They will continue to release the game sometime Early Summer 2012.

To make sure these server issues do not reoccur, it is possible that depending on the situation, they may have to perform an additional closed beta test before the Open Beta starts. This CBT2 (or whatever they call it) would only run for a very short amount of time. The details of whether or not this will happen will be discussed at a later time. Sakai just wants to make sure he doesn’t have such network problems when the Open Beta Test starts.

http://bumped.org/psublog/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/lilipa-2.jpg

In the Open Beta Test, they will introduce a new field on the planet Lilipa. It’s a planet under a harsh environment covered completely in sand. Throughout the planet you’ll see the remains of structures that apparently were used to collect resources from the planet. Liliipa is a dangerous place filled with robots who attack indiscriminately and Darkers. In the open beta you can level your classes up to level 30. There will also be a Hard Mode for those Level 20+.

The desert field has buildings that are wasting away in the sand.

http://bumped.org/psublog/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/lilipa-3.jpg

Be careful, you may come across a new Darker Boss called Gwanahda. He hides in the ground and attacks with its large pincers and many tentacles.

http://bumped.org/psublog/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/gwanada.jpg

Story Quests will be added to the game, the scenes showed the discovery of small creatures on Lilipa, and a small meeting with the Dragon Tribe on Planet Amduscia. There’s also new characters like ゲッテムハルト Gechtemhalt? voiced by Nubuo Tobita, and Melfoshina voiced by Kana Hanazawa. Furie as seen in this screenshot is voiced by Hisako Kanemoto.

http://bumped.org/psublog/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Story-Quest.jpg

When the official game starts you’ll see brand new costumes and hairstyles that you can obtain from the AC Scratch.

http://bumped.org/psublog/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/new-hairstyles.jpg

In addition, the official release will add time attack quests which will have a ranking similar to other quests.  The official game plans to add a new field called “Frozen Soil.” This field is on the planet Naberius. Sakai also plans to update the game roughly once per month.

http://bumped.org/psublog/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/snow-field.jpg

In Part 2, Sakai and Kimura took the stage to discuss about additional features and answer questions from fans. It even looks like they may hold a symbol art contest.

One of the questions asked if it would be possible to move our characters across ships. It appears due to the server issues, this won’t be implemented just yet and is kind of a difficult process yo do. However, they are  currently testing this service to see how it pans out.

Another fan asked about the possibility of making Symbol Art outside of the game, the staff may think about it.

They are still investigating how they should have the pricing scheme for Arks Cash. They are thinking about charging something like 1AC = 1 Yen? Of course the prices in the CBT aren’t going to be the same as the official game.

There will be 8 types of weapon for the official release, but more will appear later on. During the presentation someone shouted for Double Sabers, and Sakai responded that they’ll put them in. In addition, expect to see the Knuckle weapon category.

Also at the end they showed off a new map. This map was described as a near futuristic mechanical area full of robotic enemies. They didn’t discuss the name of the map but you should expect to see it in the official game.

http://bumped.org/psublog/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/new-map.jpg

Of course the Darkers show up everywhere!

http://bumped.org/psublog/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/new-map-4.jpg

Only those who were physically present were able to see this secret footage.
