That's my point. Casual Gamers don't buy gaming systems. They buy fads.

They are the ones that bought up the DS, but now they have no reason to buy the DS when they got iPhone and can get shovelware quality games for 1 dollar instead of 30. DS had some pretty trashy games for 30 dollars that sold tons. Ive seen better quality games on iOS then a lot of DS games that sold tons back then.

My point is they won't be buying a 3DS like Nintendo thought they would. I still get the feeling Nintendo hasn't realized this, but we shall see =P

I don't count Mario kart rehashes and old ports as appealing to the hardcore. They did the same thing with the Wii.

Dude, shovelware doesn't sell systems. 3DS is prove of that. The great software on DS sold the DS. All those RPGs, big ips like Mario and Zelda.

You can't purchase epic games like Dragon Quest 9 on iOS for a dollar. The market for 'shovelware' isn't as big as you think.

By your logic, the PS3 is losing consumers do to Apple too? They launched the PS3/iPhone at around the same time and the PS3 was a steep decline (more so than 3DS sales) compared to the PS2, which also had a ton of shovelware. So by your logic, all those people bought a $200/300 (at the time they were 500/600) dollar iphone (with a 2 year contract that they must pay 60+ a  month) to play a 99 cent game?

Makes sense to you?

Totally agree. As an iPod Touch owner, the first and foremost function of the thing is a music player and video player. I do have a lot of apps, around 4 pages worth, but none of them were the reason I bought the Touch. Most of them I picked up during deep discount and free sales or are SEGA titles. iOS does have some big epic games (the Zenonia series, GTA Chinatown Wars, LEGO Harry Potter, a lot of Square rpgs) but for the most part, the "best games" on iPhone are usually considered to be the 99 cent time wasters (albeit very fun time wasters): http://www.wfmj.com/story/15159111/best-iphone-games

I think the real selling point of iPhones and iPod Touches is that fact that it's a phone, camera, video camera, email and web browser all in one. The games are the cherry on top, but are not the sole reason to buy the device. I'd think it's the non-game apps (and the features listed above) that really sell the device.

I do agree with shadi, though, about Wii U looking to be another 3DS. Unless Nintendo does a damn fine job of marketing it as a NEW HD system and not another Wii. Seriously, I really dont' think a lot of people will be amazed by the control system. I've seen iPads used in conjunction with TVs and desktop computers and it was cool, but not mind blowing. I really could care less if, for example, playing a golf game I set the Wii U screen on the floor and see the golf ball. It's an unnecessary gimmick. I'd rather use a controller or a Kinect (or even a Move) rather than having to set a Wii U on the floor (don't step on it!) and using a wiimote.

I really think Nintendo should drop the "Wii" and just call it the "Nintendo U".

I still think the Wii U is a bizarre name for the console.

Seriously, Sanus just posted a legitimate response, showing that legit games make up the top selling games sold on the DS and you keep on babbling about casual bullshit.

Yes, casuals would buy a system for a game or two, but the DS has more hardcore games than more systems out there right now. Have you even looked at all the DS games? Seriously, some great stuff to be found. Also that game you linked isn't going to sell shit.

KTHX.

Shadi already said Nintendo boils his blood. Not sure if we can change Shadi's viewpoint.

Everything you buy and are interested in? Literally like 3 years ago you thought Sony was the worst thing in the industry, now you think they are the savior or someshit.

Not sure why you are so negative to games you never played or know anything about.

You know WEKOOLBRO, but you really need to stop being such a dingus sometimes, ya dingus!

Hating Sony is so 2007/2008, hating Nintendo is the cool thing to do now.

Hardcore games don't sell hardware in the numbers the DS was getting. All those sales were from mainstream casual appeal. The 3DS won't get those sales, period.

Nintendo America is still stuck in the casual mindset. They know that games like Xenobade and Last Story won't sell many Wii units, that's why they don't care to publish it, because they are still stuck in the casual mindset, and it's going to bite them in the ass.

Casuals don't care about their systems anymore.

Anyways, I'm done with this topic. I made my point and I can't stand being screamed at by you guys. We will just have to agree to disagree.

If hardware doesn't sell due to hardcore gamers, then why are the hardcare games selling in ratios of like... 1 in every 5? Why isn't there much casual ware on there? Makes no sense.

You made no points and are whimpering away. Use logic when debating.

Hmm maybe were having a misunderstanding

I never said the hardware wasn't selling to hardcore gamers. I said the majority of the sales are casuals, which is why a lot of non-nintendo software sold horrible on the DS.

Its the same situations similar to the Wii. That's what happens when you have a casual audience. They buy the system, and 1 or 2 games. Then never touch it again. Casuals bought the DS, Nintendogs, Braintraining, never touched it again. Just like on the Wii how casuals bought Wii/Wii Sports, Wii Play, Wii Fit, and never touched it again.

Where is prove that most hardware sells to casuals?

Also selling to casuals is better than selling to no one. Lurn business.

Yeah Shadi, there are holes in your argument.

Just because casual games like Just Dance exist and do good does not mean the majority of people buying the consoles are not interested in the medium at all. In fact, there is more proof that PlayStation 2 and 3 initially sold best to casual gamers because the DVD and Blu-Ray player features were very useful for them.

Not to mention that the hardcore versus casual argument is kind of silly to begin with. The fact that so many "Casuals" bought stuff like the PlayStation 2 and 3 are easily the biggest reason why so many people took high risk chances with the platforms that lead to really great games in the end.

Are you making stuff up now? Wii Fit is played by tons of casuals even today.
