You guys get all tingly and giddy when some canon-destroying extra like Colonel Sanders or Pizza Hut is inexplicably included in Phantasy Star, but you're scratching your heads about including one of the most famous race drivers in the world in a racing game.  It's a brilliant tie-in that's going to attract some buyers who wouldn't have given this game a second glance otherwise.

Yeah I think after giving it a bit more thought, and after S0L's statement, it didn't seem so bad anymore. But is the inclusion not SEGA related at all or is nascar sorta related to Daytona? I'm not so familiar with those sports.

It is SEGA related in that she is racing their real life Nascar car. Daytona USA is stock car racing, which in turn is what Nascar is. The Daytona name comes from Daytona International Speedway in Florida, which is home to a number of racing events but is best known as a Nascar venue. So basically Daytona USA is no-name Nascar. It's like making a Yankee Stadium game where you play as "Home Team" in the stadium. You're basically the Yankees, but it's not said that you are.

I heard about this the other day, pretty funny. I guess the Daytona car won't be in this one either then?

So the recent announcements bring up an obvious question- how come SEGA haven't tried to acquire the NASCAR license? Surely a Daytona USA 4 featuring real drivers and tracks alongside the arcade originals wouls sell, and as with all sports games there's the potential for yearly updates. EA dropped the license a couple of years ago, so surely it'd be worth at least considering.

Not fond of the addition of Danica Patrick, seems tacky to me personally and actually made me want the game less. I'll still get it at some point, but definitely tacky in my view. They should have focused on getting platform centric characters in like Banjo for 360 again and maybe Sly Cooper for PS3, Sony probably would have been up for Sly cross promotion given his new game is coming out later this year. Hell, given the new deal with Double Fine I'd love to see Raz in the game, anything game related! Danica? No, not really.

I had my say about her, it will be on tomorrow's podcast. She won't make me not buy the game, but she isn't helping me get excited.

Though her driving that ASR2 car makes me very happy. Great promotional work by SEGA West.

Her ass if flatter than mine. Is it great promotional work? I think it's a bad marketing move given the likely cost and that nobody in Europe seems to know who she is, most of the people who would be into this game don't give a rat's ass about her, they should have aimed at more recognizable -- gaming related -- characters.

I look forward to the podcast, we didn't discuss it on my podcast and I wish we had. It was a general E3 podcast though, so too much to cover for a off-shoot rant about this.

There are a ton of SEGA only Europe promotions. THis was announced at the right event, E3. An American event. SEGA Europe will promote it their own way.

I think her driving the car is a great idea. Not having her in the game thought.

That stage looks awesome, but it brings up a worry for me.
The sceneary looks outstanding but the course itself kind of looks a bit dull, as did the Monkey Ball one.

There needs to be more gimmicks and obsticles that are on the track itself to make each track more interesting. That is something Mario Kart seems to do better, whilst the sceneary is usually shockingly shit the tracks have cool gimmicks that make the race more fun.

Like the beach level where the tide comes in and out, or DK Jungle where your shot out of a cannon and have to come down a huge mountain and avoid bolders, or the ship level where everything rocks back and forth.

So far these tracks seem pretty empty just like they did in the original game.

Hey Sharky! Welcome back!

Yeah, I think it might just be a result of being an early build. I can see them adding in more obstacles and enemies.

Hey dude, I'm not back yet for a little over three weeks. Just had a spare moment to check up on Segabits and E3 news.

I hope the game still has a 'green shell/green boxing glove' type weapon that bounces off of walls etc. It's really the staple weapon of kart racers imo.

I'm also a little worried about the battle mode considering the new mechanics. I have a horrible feeling there wont be an option for JUST karting arenas or they'll do a single arena for each kind of vehicle. I don't imagine battle mode for the flight version to be all that fun, I get bad flash backs to Monkey Dogfight in Super Monkey Ball Wii.
