So from this information, there are 22 SEGA characters in the Wii U version (they haven't mentioned any exclusive SEGA character as of yet).

We also know that Sumo have created at least 29 characters from the 30th character scrapped answer in the SEGA Forums, so if we have 22 SEGA characters, and you add the Mii/Avatar/Danica/Ralph and the unknown 3rd guest, then that makes about 27 characters...so there are only 2 more characters that would be an exclusive SEGA character.

What interests me here is that they now say 26+ instead of 25+, would that mean that the Wii U version gets an extra Arena?

Update from S0L himself:

First, getting angry about a poster is like telling the tide to stop coming in - it won't make any difference.

In terms of the number of characters per platform - I can't confirm this. It's up to SEGA to reveal. What I can say though is that number on that poster is not necessarily accurate. There's also some other inaccuracies too, we're letting SEGA know right now.

Otherwise, wait and see. In the meantime, I'll go back to getting the game finished

22 SEGA racers
1 DLC SEGA racer
2 guests (Ralph, Danica)
2 avatars (Mii, Avatar)
--------
Total: 27

Like you said they have 29 characters total, so either the 2 remaining are SEGA characters or they are guests unique to the XBOX and Playstation platforms. I'm hoping for the latter, I don't want SEGA characters to be exclusive to platforms. Ideally, everybody gets to play as the SEGA racers and guests/avatars are exclusive to platforms.

Also, 17 total SEGA characters are known of at this point. So 6 remain, and Steve said that at least 2 will not be announced until the game launches and people learn of them by playing. So... 4 remain to be announced. Also, Steve implied that there will be more doubling up for IPs. So we might see another Skies of Arcadia or Monkey Ball character. Or two of those might be Space Channel 5.

My final six guess is:

Alex Kidd
Aika
Ulala
MeeMee or Pudding or Billy Hatcher - some character that will piss people off
Ryo Hazuki
Segata Sanshiro

Yeah i'd agree with your list Barry, allthough i'd replace Segata with Ristar.  :P

I like Segata and I believe you are very sincere, but too many other people have jumped on the Segata bandwagon as if it's the new cool thing. I just find that kinda strange because alot of us (including me) never found out about those crazy commercials untill recent years.

I like the commercials but I just don't get the hype.

I'd venture to guess that almost no one in the West was aware of Segata Sanshiro at the time the ads were new.  So what if people only found out about him in recent years?  Clearly his awesomeness transcends time itself.

However, I think it's a pipe dream to expect Segata Sanshiro in this game.  If not for his relative obscurity as a Sega character, for the fact that he's portrayed by a legendary Japanese actor who probably requires some sort of licensing to use his image.

Well it wouldn't be hard to do. The kamen Rider himself appeared as Ryo's father in the first game of SHENMUE. But even if they couldn't they can still use an archetype version of the character without putting his exact features on him like they did in the Wii game Mibiri & Teburi. Besides it wouldn't make sense putting him and other characters that are only famous in japan for this game unless they plan to release it in japan as well.

Segata's likeness was in Rent-A-Hero for Dreamcast. Who knows, maybe it's really easy to get him to approve these things given his history with the company.

It'll be probably expensive since he's a huge icon in Japan.

update: Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing Comic preview. I would have to say Danica looks ok within the pages and the art doesn't look bad either. I'm hoping at least Joe Musashi shows up in the comic. http://www.destructoid.com/exclusive-danica-patrick-to-guest-star-in-archie-sonic-235365.phtml

Yeah, I'd say she looks quite nice inside the book. Fits with other human characters in the Archie Sonic comics:

Forgot that one, then that's four Sega games he's appeared in, well technically three because the actor who plays Segata wasn't playing Segata in SHENMUE. But i don't think the "Sol man" wants to use the very obscure or popular Japan only Sega characters for this game anyway.

He's also appeared in Dynamite Deka PS2 as a secret character. S0L would probably get Segata in ASRT, but I think it's the budget that's preventing it.

I kind of doubt Sanshiro is in sadly, but I would love to be surprised.

I wonder if the two non-revealed ones are from SEGA's other IPs?

Music is sounding really great, I knew RJ had it in him. I especially love the JSR tune with added samples.

That is the best dubstep ive heard.

Dubstep? Of course that makes sense. SEGA has always went with the time when it came to music. But my god what an excellent use of dubstep. I normally dont even like the mainstream stuff but that music alone will make thay bonus edition day one for me
