Last movie in theaters: Expendables

Last movie on DVD: The Losers

I also caught parts of "Aaah! Zombies!!" streaming on Netflix and it was quite silly.

Why does the Star Trek (2009) movie have a light flair thing effect on screen every 5 seconds?

That pissed me off, because at one point I was just WAITING for the next lens flare. Then the trailer for SUPER 8 hit (looks good) and the trailer had MORE lens flare. That director seems to love it.

Watched The Fantastic Mr. Fox last night. I was holding off, because I love Roald Dahl (especially that book) and am a big Wes Anderson fan, but was afraid the movie might hurt my perception of the book and Anderson.

Thankfully it was quite good! After about 15 minutes I got used to the look and style and really enjoyed Clooney as Mr. Fox. The changes to the book were minor, and it turned out to be quite a close adaptation. One of the better Dahl movies (not as good as the original Willy Wonka, but even with James and the Giant Peach).

Hopefully Criterion releases a blu-ray, as the copy I rented was really light on extras. I'd give it a B+

Saw Tangled today.

It's an OK movie, kinda underwhelmed to be honest. The characters are funny enough, but the songs are very forgettable (obviously marketed to the Hannah Montana crowd) and plays it very safe. Some plot elements are a little too hard to swallow, but kids movies, yeah, whatever...

But the most puzzling thing is that I look at the budget and I refuse to beleive that this was made with roughly the same budget as Avatar.

No way, ILM did Rango with less than half that budget and it looks so much better than this.

The Room. Pretty odd film, and Lisa's rather ugly.

I watched Revenge of the Nerds and The Wrestler for the first time.

Revenge of the Nerds had some good bits, dated a bit by mildly offensive Japanese stereotypes, and a very lighthearted rape scene.

I really enjoyed The Wrestler though. Knowing a decent amount about professional wrestling made it a bit more depressing though.  I can name way too many real world guys that are in the same boat as the Ram.

I saw Sucker Punch today.

You know that feeling in your guts that you get 10 minutes in that you're gonna regret having sitting through all of this. That's the movie's real sucker punch...

It lowers you into a false sense of security and then it punches you below the waist.

It's also kinda like Inception but gone horribly wrong. The first 10 minutes or so it feels like it has a great atmosphere and all of it is done without dialogue.

Everything that is shown there is simply brilliant, the lighting, the cinematography, why did they choose to do another cover of a cover of a popular song is beyond me, but you know that was OK. Those first 10 minutes are very good and it's all done without dialogue and everything is crystal clear to the audience. After that, it's like we've wondered into a 14-year old boy's confused wet dream.

Zack Snyder's ego trip, as it is...

By the way, is John Hamm suppossed to be a David Caradine-esque type of mentor in this film?

Not sure what John Hamm was supposed to represent, but the whole thing was basically an excuse to fit robots, dragons, and World War I into a single movie.

I just got back from Hanna. Very enjoyable. It reminded me a bit of Run Lola Run for some reason.
Note: it's not very similar to that movie, just gave me a similar vibe.

I saw The Last Airbender... Sweet Mother of God, it was crap.

Nothing made sense, the main character is a wimp, the plot sometimes just skips around the place and there's just a couple of stuff that's flat out weird.

Especially when you consider that Aang in the show was able to learn Waterbending real easily compared to "Oong."

I agree it was awful.  It's like all action and set pieces (mediocre) and no substance.  It reminds me of Van Helsing or Aliens Vs. Predator, fading from memory right after I saw it.

I just saw a movie M. Knight wrote, but didn't direct called "Devil" where these people are trapped in an elevator with the Devil.  Really stupid pseudo-philosophical BS.  When the last guy admits he deserves to die, the Devil says "awww.. I really wanted to take you." kicks a can (not really) and leaves.  All the people the Devil killed before didn't get a chance to think about their lives and feel guilty because they died first.  What kind of stupid rules are those?  I almost saw this in the theater.  I'm really glad I didn't.

Just saw Eddie Lebron's Mega Man fan film. It was OK for what it was.
