Caught First Class last night, loved it! Definitely better than the first X-Men, though not as good as X2. Wiped the floor with X3 and Wolverine.

The film moved fast, but I could easily keep up with it. Despite the large cast, most everybody got enough screen time. Fassbender and McAvoy were awesome, I totally bought their friendship and the fact that they would later be the characters in the original movies.

Sure some things didn't line up with the other films, but they were not too major, and to be honest I'd rather they break a few rules for the sake of a better movie rather than have to, for example, not include Beast because Hank McCoy had a very small cameo as a human in X2.

Overall, I'd give it an 8.5/10

Toy Story 3:

It's very good. It's amazing that a third film in a franchise can still have a breath of fresh air. Loved all the jokes, the story goes into a few places that I thought an animated movie wouldn't have the cojones to do and the ending is a clear tear-jerker.

I loved everything about it, particularly how they expanded Buzz and Jessie's relantionship, Mr.Potato Head is also a scream, except that the obvious Mattel plug was a little distracting.

Arguably one of the better movies of 2010.

Totally bro, Toy Story 3 was one of my favorite movies of 2010. That and Inception.

It is really rare for a third film to be so good in a trilogy. I can't think of any others really. Perhaps Revenge of the Sith in the prequel trilogy? But that was more of a 6th film than a 3rd film. Return of the King was really good.

The Last Crusade and Back to the Future Part 3 are great third entries into their respective series.

I never did like Toy Story 3 much, I thought it was good but not really great and seemed to be a pretty big fall from the previous two entries.

Anyway, last film I watched was Kung Fu Panda 2, good sequel, I think almost everything has been improved except for the music (Similar quality) and the primary villain is not as good as the snow tiger from the previous title. Still a good watch I thought so.

Speaking of X-men, I saw First Class yesterday and I thought it was so much better than Thor, to be honest.

Great origin story, good characters(some puzzling misfires to be honest), good special effects for the most part, love the recreation of the 60's, soundtrack is awesome.

I have one or two qualms about two or three characters, because...

Why Mistique? She's basically Anna Paquinn's character from the original 3 films, she starts off somewhat strong, but [spoiler:2cpcp7qe]her character motivations  get so random as the movie goes on, it's puzzling, first she has a step-brother/jealous step-sister thing going on with Xavier everytime he tries to pick up girls in a pub, only to have a somewhat semi-decent relantionship with Hank McCoy that never goes anywhere and it's only because Erik has a hard on for blue skinned women, that that alone is enough to convince her to switch sides?[/spoiler:2cpcp7qe]

Why Angel Salvatore? We never get to know her that well, but it was one character that really served no purpose other than add a somewhat unconvincing betrayal. You know,[spoiler:2cpcp7qe]for someone who works as stripper, who is used to being treated as a toy for horny men, it's the two CIA jerks who just point and laugh at her that makes her change her mind on where mutants should stand. This makes her look completely childish.[/spoiler:2cpcp7qe]

I'm kinda split about Kevin Bacon, while I'm glad to see him in many flicks, because he is trully one of the greatest underated actors of his generation, but at the same time, his role never amounts to anything except [spoiler:2cpcp7qe]being a plot device to tell how Erik became Magneto.[/spoiler:2cpcp7qe] But, Kevin Bacon seemed to be enjoying himself a lot in this.

Perhaps, my only other minor complaint, would be that the final act runs a bit longer than I wanted to.

Overall, a very enjoyable Summer flick. 8/10

Mystique joins Erik because he's the only one who accepts her for who she is, and teaches her that she should be proud of how she looks.  Xavier wants her to look like a blonde and Hank wants to cure her.

True... However,[spoiler:qk6kexfv]during the first act, it's clear enough that Xavier doesn't mind Raven's appearance, moreso than when they are alone, she shifts back into her real form. But that's probably because they are childhood friends.
Since he's been used to living with her, her appearence to him seems to be a non-issue. Or is probably being overprotective of her (hence the "little pet" remark she makes to Xavier in the kitchen).

But she gets convinced over the two remarks from a person she barely knows? 'Kay.

Still, when Xavier gets shot and Erik extends her hand to her and she goes to Xavier, which was an interesting change, shame that they decide to wrap all that up in one movie.[/spoiler:qk6kexfv]

Yeah, I agree with you, although I[spoiler:2h3uoji4]think she still has affection for Xavier (despite the fact that in a previous movie she had no qualms about contaminating Cerebro and attempting to kill him)

I like that it's complex and that she doesn't just turn evil.  I think it's the two opposing philosophies:

 1)  Hide from the regular humans, help them covertly, and don't expect any gratitude.

or

2)  Stop hiding from them, force them to notice you and to appreciate your mutant gifts.

She is tired of the first philosophy and seduced by the second.  Hank's telling her he could help her look "normal" was the straw that broke the camel's back, because she was just starting to believe that maybe her natural form was beautiful the way it was.[/spoiler:2h3uoji4]

[spoiler:1tt9pwvv]I wouldn't hold it against her, because since X-men: First Class is a prequel/reboot hybrid, thus events that ocurred in the first X-men movie never actually happenned or at least they haven't happened.[/spoiler:1tt9pwvv]

Rebecca Romijn played Mystique in the previous X-Men films.

Yes, I know, what I mean to say was that Mystique in this movie played a bit like Anna Paquin's role as Rouge from the original film.
