Have you jumped into the new gen yet?
« on: April 06, 2015, 03:31:55 am »
The Ps4 and Xbox one have been a big succes so far. But I wondered how SEGAbits stance is on this new gen.

Personally i've been very hesitant in jumping on the new consoles. I feel like i may not get too much use out of them at the moment. What about you guys and what have your experiences been like so far? Positive? Negative? Satisfying enough? Or still waiting?

I was hovering on the PS4 a lot since bloodborne came out. Been feeling the urge before every exclusive comes out. But realized that the games i wanna get for ps4 will come out on the ps3 as well. Still gotta beat dark souls as well (not going too well).

Got a WII U before the ps4 and One came out. I feel like I made the right pick so far for my own tastes at least

I've only picked up a Wii U so far. I'm a big fan of the Miiverse feature, and I feel like it's been a better choice as far as games that I'm into at the moment.

That said, I have a few PS4 games on pre-order, and I'm looking forward to picking one up by the end of the year sometime.  MGS V, FFXV, and Uncharted 4 are the big reasons for me to make the jump. Out side of Infamous, there isn't much out for the current gen that's really grabbing me.
It's been nice to be able to play a lot of the newer indie titles on the Vita too.

I have my Bayonetta 2 Box but that's it.

No games I want to play that I can't play on my PC anyway.

Have both the XBox One and PS4 . Both brilliant consoles with some great games already. Just can't wait for the Rainbow Six Seige, Halo 5 and The Division . Also have a Wii U but it hardly gets look in

Got the PS4 and Wii U. I'd say if you have a good PC, the PS4 isn't worth it right now as the only really good exclusives so far are Bloodborne and Resogun. I don't have a good PC though, so the PS4 does just fine for me. Also I'm loving Bloodborne.

The Wii U is like most Nintendo consoles past the SNES: it's great if all you really want from it is Nintendo games.

WiiU and PC here.

I'll buy an Xbox when Phantom Dust comes out. If they cancel that game, then bye bye Xbox.

PS4 will happen too, and will probably be my main console, but I see no rush to buy it. I'll get it when Persona 5 comes out.

I've wanted to jump right into Wii U ever since it came out, but money and space have been the main issues keeping me at bay. I've got six consoles and a PC next to my TV, and i'm frankly afraid to push it further given how many wires I contend with.

But Bayo 2, Smash Bros., Wonderful 101, EarthBound, Mario 3D World, and the Virtual Console in general (especially that Metroid Prime Trilogy, mmmmm) are more than enough reason for me to want to pick one up.

I really don't get why people (and this isn't a dig at you) compare or try to link a PC and a console and never have done - They're really different imo and shouldn't be compared to each other . I will beg to differ on the Snes and Wii U though . The Wii U is nothing like the Snes - The Snes when it came out was state of the art and really powerful console (bar the CPU) and it also came with stunning support from not just Nintendo by most 3rd parties - The Wii U is nothing like that imo

Yeah, don't compare the PC to underpowered PCs with brand names and laggy UIs.

PC and Wii U. I might get a Playstation 4 if there are decent exclusives I want.

No I don't and never did the DC days (which its self was just a PC in a console box, never mind the XBox) There's a vast difference to the console's and PC's and thats looking over price and easy of use . The main difference is that as a console user you that no matter when you buy the console be that in it's 1st year or the 5 or 6th year down the line-  all the games for that console,  will work on it, run  and all look and sound, control exactly the same.

The easy of use and the standard nature of a console is nothing like that of a PC (but also then the console failing in that you can't boost the Ram  Ect ). That's why to me even as I console and PC (with more than a decent rig )owner I'll always go for the console versions 9 times out of 10 and did just the same in the DC days when the likes of SEGA had a decent PC line porting its DC games to the PC with in most cases better visuals and res Ect .

Honestly for me consoles and PC's only dissimilarity are the 1st party and partnered exclusives. Its all about the games and I think what Timmit means is that there are too few for someone who already decided to build a PC when last gen took so long to jump into the new gen. What used to hold back the PC market was that it wasnt very strong untill steam revitalized it so all the 3rd party games and more come out on PC. I think you're argument counts for the majority though. Most people still prefer console's streamlined experience

Oh I see , well that's always the case for a new console just over a year in really . There are some really really good games on the both systems at the mo , but they aren't quite total exclusives as there is more offten than a not a cutdown version for the older consoles.

I really don't know why people give the PS4 or XBox One such a hard time when they're both ace systems and people should remember just how rubbish it was for the 1st year of the DC and systems like the PS2 life , even my fav system of all time the Saturn , took more than a year to really get going .

I compared them to PC because these days, the majority of third party games on PS4 and Xbox One are on PC as well. Even Japanese developed games, which used to be mostly only for consoles, are getting PC releases. See MGSV and Street Fighter V.

If you have a powerful enough PC to run those games well, there are only a few games on PS4 and Xbox One at the moment to get one of those two. That's not the case with Wii U or, back when it was out, with Dreamcast because you can't/couldn't get a lot of the good games on the systems anywhere else. While right now for both the PS4 and Xbox One there are only a few console-only games worth owning. I can see that changing in one or two years though.

Want a PS4 this year.

I have a Wii U, but it doesn't feel anything like next gen to me. I mainly got it for Sonic games, didn't realize Nagoshi would completely screw over Iwata/Nintendo like he did with the Sonic deal, so now I kind of feel like a sucker for buying one. But, I've had some fun with it, so I suppose there are some worse purchases that could have been made.

Really do want a PS4 though.

That used to happen years back People seem to forget not only about the MSX , but systems like the FM Towns and Sharp X6800 both of which enjoyed console and arcade ports (most of which were far better than the MD or Snes ports too) , but as I Mega Drive user not only were the  Sharp systemsout of my price league , I never really thought it was fair to compare the Sharp system to a console as they were both meant for different users really.

Again one goes back and there were quite a few SEGA PC ports of its console games as soon as Windows 95 started to open up PC gaming to the masses and it never ever bothered me that PC users could enjoy ports of some of the better Mega CD, Saturn, DC SEGA games with in most cases more features, full on-line play and in most cases with better GFX and Screen res . I really doubt many PSX users were bothered about the likes of G-Police, Wipeout, Colin Mcrae, Resident Evil 1 and II , MGS and a host of other top PSX games were all on the PC and with 3FDX support Ect . Look at SEGA Japan along with Capcom there were some of the 1st to come out to support Power VR for example .

To me PC and Console users are different really . Console users will always want to play them games on the console (if they have a PC rig good enought) and deicated PC gamers will never lower themself to the closed system that is a console and its limits on screen Res and FPS.
