Found this pretty awesome Article about Sega's success in Brazil. It's worth the read if anyone has a few free minutes.

Also, can someone whom currently lives in Brazil buy export this for me?

This was true of Europe until SEGA decided to kamikaze themselves into oblivion with the Saturn.

Funny enough, Portugal and Spain were also pretty strong SEGA lands back in the day. Iberians sure love SEGA.

I thought this was talking about the Terry Gilliam (?) film when I read the topic title.

Why do people bank on about Brazil .

The UK is a market place when SEGA beat Nintendo for the 8bit and 16 bit generations of hardware . Shame they messed up all that hard work and the drive to make consoles cool to own and be seen to be played long ...long .. before SONY and Wipeout with their terrible handling of the Saturn and DC

To this day the Saturn has massive respect here in Portugal, and are usually highly regarded as superior to the Playstation.

Really? Wow. I can't say I even remember seeing a Saturn here in the UK till I went around my cousins  (lives about 2 hours away). Think he had Nights and Clockwork on it...

Saturn was the 32 Bit Gen and that's when it all started to go wrong for SEGA Europe , that said I don't think the Saturn did any better in Brazil .

Did TecToy do the collaborative venture with Sega on Saturn, or was it straight Sega?

It's still with TecToy, although most of the Saturn games are expensive US imports.

Brazil got Saturns of many colours. North America and Europe just had the one - black.
Like previous consoles, the Sega Saturn was distributed by Tectoy, and eventually adopted many of the colour schemes set out by Sega of Japan. Though not a commercial failure fewer Saturn games were released than Master System or Mega Drive games, with a vast number being US imports.

It was Tech, but I really don't know why people go ape over Brazil. SEGA Europe and more so in the  SEGA UK totally beat Nintendo for 2 generations and when both were genuine going concerns.. not years latter like in Brazil.

I think it's that they still sell 150k a year in Brazil that people are interested.

Yeah, exactly. I think that's why people make a big deal about Brazil, cause the fucking Master System is still selling over there!

It sells roughly 150,000 units per year there. Seeing as how it's about 30 years old, those figures are mind-boggling to me.
