SEGAbits Podcast: Need some feedback
« on: February 10, 2010, 04:15:46 am »
I have suggested that we were going to do a Podcast and I'm still up for it. But I wanted to get some feedback from the users here. I'll make it fast and simple.

1. Name! We need suggestions.
2. Length. How long do you guys want us to aim for?
3. Weely, bi-weekly or montly? We want to not miss an episode for you guys, so this is important.

I assume content delivery by direct link and iTunes is fine for everyone? Including a flash player?

How about BitCast?

Or George and Pal's Variety Hour featuring Sega?

Not sure about length though, I don't really follow podcasts very much, so I don't know what the average is.

As for episode frequency, maybe once a month or so? I think more often than that and there probably wouldn't be that much Sega-news to talk about.

I think the usual length is 45min to an hour.
I guess it would really depend on what you guys were talking about.  Maybe a different SEGA series/game could get a spotlight section in each episode ala Retronauts.
As far as frequency, it'd probably come down to what you guys thought you could handle. I'm really not sure how much work goes into putting on one, so I wouldn't want to suggest anything too crazy.
Probably nothing more frequent than bi-weekly.

A bi-weekly show would be great.

It takes time to round-up all the good highlights of the week. And since that there can be some slow weeks(especially in the summer), it's gives enough time to fully flesh out everything.

Talking about a classic game is a great idea

I like the MadeManG's BitCast name idea.  If there were a few suggestions, we could even have a poll on the main site to pick the top choice.

Having it up on iTunes would be a must.

The roundup section at the beginning's also a great idea. Highlighting any recent/upcoming releases and/or newly announced titles.

Id like to hear a podcast but to be honest my attention span is crap especially when listening to talking so I think 45 minutes is far too long... 20 - 30 sounds good to me.

names :S uhhhh

and I think monthly would be enough... monthly would ensure a higher quality as there would be more to talk about.

I discovered Sega Nerds by searching for "sega podcast" in iTunes, so I think you would be missing out if you didn't have SEGA in the title somewhere.

I would love it if it were weekly or Bi-Weekly.  I drive a lot, so I listen to podcasts in the car, updated from my iTunes feed.  You should have it divided into sections:

News
Listener feedback and mail,
questions (forums, twitter, facebook),
Reviews and New game discussion
Classic game feature of the week (or bi-week or whatever)

And I like where you invited different community members in your community podcast to participate.  That should be enough material, even if there isn't a lot of SEGA news at some point.

Sega Sound Bits. Or something.

Length? Depends on how far are you willing to go with jokes and such. I personally don't like "serious" show. If you're going that route, I'd say 30 minutes. If you're going the relaxed, some times offtopic, way, I'd say 60-90 minutes.

A biweekly show would be nice, but it won't be possible because there will be nothing new to discuss most of the times. I'd say once a month, with specials during times like E3 and Gamescom.

I see retrogaming as an interesting feature, with each show featuring a classic game, with a bit of discussion on said game and one or two music tracks from that game playing some time in the show. Frequent shows about discussed and rediscussed subjects like why the 32X failed would really make me unsubscribe the thing.

An idea I had. Get guests in the show, interview them. Heck, if they are available, have them as guest hosts for the full show.
