Marvel To Norton: Sorry But You're Kind Of A Jerk

Quote
“We have made the decision to not bring Ed Norton back to portray the title role of Bruce Banner in the Avengers. Our decision is definitely not one based on monetary factors, but instead rooted in the need for an actor who embodies the creativity and collaborative spirit of our other talented cast members. The Avengers demands players who thrive working as part of an ensemble, as evidenced by Robert, Chris H, Chris E, Sam, Scarlett, and all of our talented casts. We are looking to announce a name actor who fulfills these requirements, and is passionate about the iconic role in the coming weeks.”

Well that sucks, no Hulk curve stumps for us :( . Now let's forget that 2003's Hulk existed and also 2008's. It is all about The Avengers Hulk in 2011!!!

Hey I like Norton he’s the only reason I even bothered to watch that Hulk movie...

Then again I actually don't enjoy Marvel movies... There easy to watch and have simple plots and there just very boring action movies in the end. Not even good ones like Terminator 2... Just watchable if you want to watch something and not think.

Which is rarely the case for me. Then again thats probably perfect for people that read comic books...

I hear that Norton was a bit of a tool to marvel in the past so they basically just said "Fuck you" to him, I think the Avengers movie is going to be so over powered with all these heroes that it will probably suck

I thought the whole point of this Marvel Studios thing was to ensure crossovers between movies.  Seems kinda odd to recast Norton.

I was digging the whole Marvel mega-crossover until they replaced Terrance Howard and made Iron Man 2 into a sneak preview for Thor/Avengers. Really, I enjoyed Iron Man 1 and also liked seeing Iron Man 2. However, a week after seeing Iron Man 2 I had completely forgotten anything great about the movie. Sorta forgettable. I did really like Sam Rockwell's character, so not all was lost.

Now with Ed Norton out, I'm very much on the fence. I mean, Harry Potter can make 7 movies and only one major cast member change due to a death. Meanwhile, Marvel can't even make two movies without changing two major characters due to ineptitude.

I didn't like e way they abandoned the first Hulk movie.  It had a good cast, and the story wasn't bad.  The only real problem I had with it was the bad guy at the end--his father.  that part was contrived.  Anyway, I found it annoying that they re-wrote the back story and changed the entire cast to make the movie less serious and more like a comic book / video game.

Maybe they could go back to him.

I'll betcha they're doing the same thing to the next Spider-Man. Goddamn is that movie unnecessary!

He is going to go back to High School, be a outcast and shiny spider. I can't wait.

30 year old HS students make the girls go crazy!

At the moment I'm more of a DC comics movie fan. Marvel is getting too messy.

I hope not.  I guess it's the formula that if a movie is successful, fans demand more, and they keep making movies until no one cares any more.  Keep squeezing the fruit until there's nothing left.

I'm a DC Vertigo man myself, and they've had a good run of movies so far. V for Vendetta and Watchmen were both really good. I'm still waiting for them to make Preacher and 100 Bullets into movies too. I think The Boys is on it's way as well, but that's not DC anymore.

Anyway, as for this, it had to be expected that there would be changes made to the cast for the Avengers movie, with so many big name actors over so many roles in so many movies it's bound to happen.

Personally I don't mind, it's just like James Bond changing from Sean Connery to George Lazenby to Roger Moore to Timothy Dalton to Pierce Brosnan. They are all still the same continuity, just different actors portraying the roles. So long as they keep the same past and universes together I'm cool with it.

Also, Don Cheadle >>>>>>>>>>>> Guy from Iron Man 1.

If Western comic book fans knew what quality fighting/action entertainment was like, then they wouldn't be avidly following them to begin with.

Japanese comic books are JUST as bad, if not worse... Always very cliche and predictable.

I think franchise movies today need to ease up on the multi-film plot plans. Take a look at Spider-Man 1-3, they totally tried to set up The Lizard but took way too long to do it and then the series was rebooted. James Bond had even worse luck, trying to plan out a multi-film plot only to have the second film be way too short and the third film canceled until further notice. Jumper attempted to be a trilogy, but failed with the first film.

I think movies, especially super hero and action ones, need to go back to being self contained stories with clear endings. No cliffhangers and lighten up on the foreshadowing to a sequel. I'm not saying it's wrong for movies to set things up for a sequel, but an entire movie shouldn't simply be a setup for the next film. The Dark Knight, Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl and Star Wars: A New Hope were all great self contained movies that also contained elements that would carry on to their sequels (I'm making an assumption with TDK).

DC Vertigo, to be trusted. Even if the Hellblazer movie pissed me off. :(
