What we missed: New Mario & Sonic, Total War: Warhammer first screens and SEGA’s mission statement video

If you haven’t noticed, the site was offline for a few days and there was some SEGA News that we missed. At first I wanted to make a news post for every single item, but that would be sort of a waste. So now that we are back lets have a look at some of the news that we missed which includes the announcement of Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, the first ever screenshots for Total War: Warhammer and a look at SEGA Japan’s mission statement, painting a positive note for the future of the company.

Mario & Sonic go to Rio, play at the Olympics once again

The dynamic duo are back and once again they are settling their differences at next year’s Olympic Games. This is the 5th entry to the long running Mario & Sonic series that started back in 2007 via the Nintendo Wii and DS. This new title will be released on both the Nintendo 3DS and the Nintendo Wii U. It has already been confirmed that each version will have exclusive mini-games. For example the 3DS version will have Soccer (aka Football for non-Americans) and table tennis, while the Wii U version gets rugby and beach volleyball.

New characters include:

  • Rogue
  • Zazz
  • Jet the Hawk
  • Nabbit
  • Diddy Kong
  • Birdo

The game was announced via Nintendo Direct over in Japan and even showed off gameplay footage that you can see here. Not surprisingly, SEGA of America has already confirmed that this title will make it West. No firm release date has been announced for the game as of yet. I’m sure we will see more at this year’s E3.

First Total War: WarHammer sreenshots released

SEGA and Creative Assembly also gave the world a glimpse of their new game Total War: Warhammer with the first in-game engine screenshots. As you can see it looks really great graphically for the type of scale Total War games are known for. I’m sure coupled with the great battle mechanics of Creative Assembly and the decades of built lore from the Warhammer universe that this game might be one of Creative Assembly’s most ambitious titles. We shall wait and see.

SEGA Japan released the following mission statement video on its YouTube channel. The video starts off with the statement ‘Creation is Life’, referring to the company. The video glosses over some great pioneering games in the arcades back when SEGA called themselves the ‘Quartermasters’. The video shows the console and arcade history of the company and then talks about the present SEGA and maybe a little too positive tone for the future of the company.

Anyway, let us know what you think in the comment section and welcome back to the site!

  1. I hate revisionist history. Now I know why that one beer company boasts about not hiding from it.

That, and theirs is kind of badass, too.

  2. Trippled says:

Don’t think Sega has much to boast about pre 1960. They are right to start there, because only a few years after they would start releasing “entertainment” machines. (1965 is when they officially started to make “amusement machines”)

  3. Joon says:

What will Sammy let them do now? Sammy own Sega don’t they? Sega Sammy Holdings is a Sammy corp that owns all parts of Sega.

    • Hitrax says:

Sega Sammy Holdings is now Sega Holdings,Ltd.

    • Trippled says:

Sega Holdings is the Entertainment section of the Sega Sammy Group.

    • Joon says:

It’s still Sega Sammy Holdings, Sega might have it’s own division within the group however and it’s own companies., but it’s still tied down with Sammy.

    • Hitrax says:

Sega Sammy Holdings is Kabushiki Kaisha Sega. Sammy Corporation, alongside Index Corporation (parent company of Atlus) are both wholly owned by SEGA. Haijime Satomi sold off all of Sammy’s stock, value, shares, assets, and expenditures in August 2010 to Sega. With that, all main subsidiaries of Sammy and divisions were dissolved.

Satomi basically had Sega absorb the entire holding’s company under the SEGA umbrella.

The only 2 parts of Sammy that are left are Sammy Corporation (Sega’s panchinko division) and Sammy Networks (Sega’s online Casino and sister mobile app company).

Sega Sammy Holdings currently only exists as the Holdings mothership for Sega. All divisions and companies under it are ALL owned by Kabushiki Kaisha Sega, a.k.a. SEGA Holdings, Ltd. Including Sega Logistics, Inc.

    • Robert Wesker says:

      Sega also owns TMS Entertainment.

    • Joon says:

@Hitrax Then why they still call themselves Sega-Sammy Holdings on their main website, seems a bit daft considering they are owned by Sega as a whole anyway, wouldn’t you say? Where is Sega Holdings official website? I can’t find it considering they are the over all boss of all the operations and subsidiaries.

    • Hitrax says:

      @Joon

Sega Holdings has a beta site that’s been up since April 1st:

      http://sega.co.jp/

So does Sega Games, and Sega Interactive.
      http://sega-games.co.jp/

      http://sega-interactive.co.jp/index.html
Sega Sammy’s site is still up because IB designation changes are still pending in the WIPO. Everything is still in the process of being transferred to Sega Holdings,Ltd

      http://sega.co.jp/corporate/profile_business/

Sega Sammy remains the Holdings main financial mothership. It is on the verge of being dissolved as the original merger was disassembled in 2011.

the way i see it is that sega is in danger

    • Eck says:

      How so?

    • Fintry says:

Sega’s doing not too bad, they’re doing okayish, not brilliant but hardly that bad.

    • George says:

Yeah SEGA isn’t off too bad at all, just not doing amazing on consoles but honestly are doing better than some of their ‘fan favorite’ 3rd party years.

SEGA’s consumer division has always been a problem.

    • Hento says:

How good compared to say Capcom and the likes of Namco, Konami, Nintendo and Tecmo ect? There was talk of Capcom selling it’s self to another company last year following a dismal series of disapointing performances with some of it’s key franchises and their hated transaction policies for their retail titles, Sega was one of the ones rumoured to be interested in looking into an acquisition or at least a portion of ownership, though since then, they seem to be doing fine on their own now.

  5. Robert Wesker says:

Is the video meant to signal something?
“What the world expects of us” – so they do hear their fans after all.

  6. lenno says:

    Ho hum.
