For me it was always a remake off daytona 1. If it was daytona 3 sega most make a little more afford, and beside sega most not call it the 3rd game, but instead use a sub name like ( battle of… ). as kid i didn’t like daytona 1 that much, i liked daytona battle of the edge more. Especially the first stage where you ride underneath a theme park ship. My most arcade sega moments where Jurrasic Park , sega le mans, outrun and house of the death. This year i will check out the new daytona game in the arcade ( so fingers crossed)

I kinda dissapointed they dropped the “3”. It’s more easier to promote to friends if it’s a sequel, rather than just a remake.
Remember how different After Burner 2 and Galaxy Force 2 compared to their prequel? Yeah, not much. This Daytona still has more difference than After Burner 2 and Galaxy Force 2.

Not really a fan of the franchise. But I seem to find many entries here.

For example I own Daytona USA 2001 on Dreamcast.
Back when I was a writer here, I remember us newsing something called Sega Classic Racing which was another entry without the license.

Anyway I’d agree with George as to why the number was dropped.

i’m going to call it daytona usa 3. or i might call it daytona usa 2017 depending on the game’s quality. Is this even made by Sega AM2 or another development group? Time will tell.
