16-bit classics The Lion King and Aladdin receiving remastered collection

Information has leaked from a GameStop conference which revealed that Disney plans to release an Aladdin and The Lion King collection featuring various versions of the games including the SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive titles from Virgin Interactive. The full collection includes Aladdin‘s Sega Genesis, Game Boy, and Super Game Boy versions and The Lion King‘s Sega Genesis, Super NES, Game Boy, and Super Game Boy versions. For those keeping track, this means the Capcom Aladdin is not being included. Other versions include what is being called a new “final cut” of Aladdin and a 1993 trade show version of the game.

The collection is being worked on by publisher Nighthawk Interactive and developer Digital Eclipse, with a fall release date both physically and digitally priced at $29.99 for PC, Switch, PS4 and Xbox One. New features include upscaled graphics, save states, a 15 second rewind feature, level select, and invulnerability and infinite lives options.

The release of such a collection makes sense, given Disney has had live action remakes of both animated classics in theaters this year and Disney has been much more open to rereleasing their classic games. The Mega Drive/Genesis Mini features the Mickey Mouse Illusion games, and classic Star Wars games are being rereleased through Limited Run Games and Arcade1UP. We’ll share more as we hear it! Now if only Disney rereleased QuackShot
