EuroGamer Preview (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-09-25-total-war-attila-is-your-chance-to-save-an-empire-or-end-it)
The setting will likely remind fans of the Barbarian Invasion expansion for Rome: Total War, with its great hordes migrating across the map, but Creative Assembly is trying to emphasise how different Total War: Attila is to its predecessor. They're keen to frame it as both an evolution of the imperfect Total War: Rome 2, as well as a grimmer and potentially more difficult prospect.
"Playing as the Western Roman Empire is going to be a very challenging game," he explains. "We're designing this experience for the real Total War veterans. You've almost got to figure out what you can afford to lose." His trip north to the Roman city of York ends with him abandoning the settlement altogether, illustrating a new razing mechanic where the settlement's suffering citizens take what they can and leave almost nothing behind except, hopefully, a buffer between them and the advancing and very hungry Saxons. Saxons who, despite their rumbling stomachs, are clearly in a stronger position here.
The good news is that the fall of a civilisation is going to look much prettier. Total War: Attila is plainly better looking and, after a lengthy consultation with its stylist, has also been working on its presentation. Flyby fans will enjoy more freedom with the campaign map camera, which can now zoom in much tighter or pull back to reveal much more of a continent in conflict. That continent, which is bigger than ever and now stretched as far as the Urals, is both more detailed and more distinct. Its weather, foliage and sharper textures help to make shimmering southern regions appear more arid, while northern territories are damper and dingier. The sea shines. The vegetation blooms.
The interface has also been simplified, with a new browser making it much easier to consider building options and their expansions, while technologies are presented together, rather than clicked through, to give a better perspective on possible progressions. "It's about bringing all the information front and centre," says Bickham
As he clicks through the interface, Bickham also reveals something noticeably absent from Total War: Rome 2: "We've brought back the family tree, as that's a feature that it turns out fans really missed," he says. "This is our way of making characters more integral, more important to your campaign, our way of creating a greater sense of attachment to your characters and giving them more to do in the game." Once again, players can manage their friends, Romans and countrymen, increasing their standing, marrying them off or sending them away to govern distant provinces that nobody can quite pronounce. Seating governors is important, as it's the only way to enact provincial edicts.
The battle interface doesn't look quite so reworked, but those crying havoc will have an exciting new weapon at their disposal and that weapon is dynamic fire. Now, buildings can burn and fire spreads like honey on a hotplate, which sounds delightfully destructive. "At this time, a lot of buildings are made of wood," says Wojs. "If one's burning, it's probably going to spread to the other. This can happen as a result of siege weaponry, flaming arrows or even one of the new special types of unit, the raiding unit."

Thanks JR.
Looks very nice

What I found curious was the announcement on the Sega blog lists PC and Mac in 2015.
Traditionally as I mentioned elsewhere it takes several years after the release of the Windows version for a Mac version to hit the stores. Assuming this isn't a PR flub it is a VERY interesting development.
Maybe they are porting it side by side internally?
side by side with Feral or some other 3rd party?
Either way, if correct this represents a rather drastic change for a release. Though if history has taught us anything, it is that CA will probably do well with this title, just as Napoleon was much better received than Empire Total War's disaster of a launch
-
It would be great if they could NOT botch launch... It seems every other game launches with a million bugs. Though Shogun 2 was good. Rome 2 Took until recently to become the game it should have been at Launch.
-
Aliens, Rome 2, Company of Heroes 2. Lots of botched releases last year

"Hey guys, we need an expansion to Rome II"
"Cool, let's make Barbarian Invasion again"
"Nice work. Hey! Here's an idea, remember that time we made that Napoleon expansion for Empire and just said 'Fuck it' and released it as a sequel instead?"
"Yes, but wha- ohhh! Oh you sneaky git! Let's DO IT!"
TOTAL WAR: ATTILA
Seriously though, I don't want to play as a filthy horse banger, but this might be really good. I want to play the Western Roman Empire and try to save it before it collapses like in BI. That was fun.
The second game using the engine is usually better than the first, so they might build on Rome 2 (Which I still haven't played. I should read up on the forums to see if they've fixed it yet. Also the Emperor edition is fucking expensive, I'm such a tight-arse now), I'm hoping this is a return to form for the team.
EDIT: Reading that preview now, it sounds like it has some great features! I love the idea of abandoning a city and razing it as you leave. I've wanted to do this so many times in older Total Wars, just leave nothing but scorched earth for the invaders while you regroup.
EDIT 2: Family tree! YES!
EDIT 3: Total War franchise on sale on Steam, except for Rome 2, of course. Also the amount of DLC for Rome 2 is fucking disgusting. Beast Unit Packs, blood and gore DLC. Ugh...
having said that, ROME 2 is FREE to all steam users for this whole weekend until Monday Night I believe. I'm going to try it out!

This is nothing new, every Total War game has had a stand alone expansion since the original Rome.
Rome had Alexander and Barbarian Invasion.
Medieval 2 had Kingdoms
Empires had Napoleon
Shogun 2 had Fall of the Samurai

Yo, Alexander was so much fun, I loved that game.
But what I mean is that most of those expansions save for Napoleon were marked as expansions and sold for expansion prices, not shown off as full sequels.
I don't care, I just hope this one builds on Rome 2 significantly. I want to try Rome 2 this weekend, it's free to all steam users until monday night.

I'm wondering when WARHAMMER from Relic and CA will make its debut. Really curious to see how that looks..

You can't actually play as the Huns xD. IGN has another preview. (http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/09/25/total-war-attila-announced)
Attila and his forces are not a faction in the traditional sense and can’t be played. They’re more like a force of nature that sweeps across the map, destroying and spoiling everything they touch.
Also, the DLC in TW has been pretty awful since Empire started this trend with "Elite units". It sucks hard.

Oh fuck right off Sega/CA. It'll probably be some 'Hunnic Faction Pack' for $9.99 the day the game comes out.

According to MCV, 81% of Total War: Attila sales were digital.
It's like digital is the future market.

Some interesting quote :
Sega has also told MCV that the last five entries in the Total War series – Empire, Napoleon, Shogun 2, Rome II and Attila – have shifted 11m copies in total, while over 18m units of DLC have been sold. The franchise now boasts over one million unique players each month, the publisher said.

Meanwhile at Sega of Europe....

For PC exclusives? Most definitely. PC sections in gaming stores are shrinking very fast. I only used to buy retail in Australia because internet was so bad it was too hard to download a 50GB game.
I read the other day that CoH2 has sold over '4 million units', although I believe 3.5 million are 'DLC units' ranging from commanders at $4 to DLC costing $40.
