i am speechless!
just OMG!
-
Wow, that was surprising, I was not quite expecting the game to jump THAT much, still need to see a lot more though.
But for now, eh, they've finally gotten my attention again (And I quite like a good man vs machine story, although come on, there should be good machines too if they develop free will :[ )
Also only badasses invade Rampaging Robot's Evil HQ with jet skis.
-
haha kind of cool. Gotta capture dat western audience yo.

This just shot up from "Interesting" to "Most Anticipated"! Dammit Nagoshi! Why did you keep this awesomeness from us the whole time?
But those characters... They are extremely generic, They NEED to change them, ASAP! This gotta be the most generic squad this generation!
-
Honestly that just looks so sick and very attracting. Good trailer and Nagoshi is a metrosexual genius.
This looks very very unique for a shooter but I can see it grow a lot of interest.
-
WOW, That does look really good and the music is epic !
-
My eyes just orgasmed...
-
I wonder if there is any adventure/exploring parts like Yakuza, or its just a straight shooter like Vanquish/Gears?
EDIT: Its not up yet on the front page! Shame on you, bitters!
-
Still looking horrible for me. Vanquish looks much better than this.
The music is awesome, though. I loved it.
Hmm, it just looks like a Ryu Ga Gotoku spin-off than a new game.
-

Wow, much better trailer than the previous one. The giant enemy designs look really cool.
-
Very interesting, and great soundtrack.

What!
STORM! for the love of god stop!
Same textures, same cameras, same dramatic scenes, same sounds...
Action shooting part looks like Vanquish, but slower, much slower.
Same slow tempo from Ryu Ga Gotoku. The graphics also looks cheap on every part showed in the movie. Vanquish gave me a better feeling watching all those actions and fighting. Oh God, that game was, is, amazing!!!
Do u wanna see a video from Vanquish? ;p

no i don't want to continue with you , it's already getting crazy
VANQUISH has nothing to stand on it's legs in front of this game technically. speed is the only advantage it has compared to this game and that's because of it's style not anything else.
-
Looks awesome! That short scene of the car got me pumped for some reason.
Sort of reminded me of Snatcher.
I'm totally cool with the 2012 release date, there are far too many titles this year already.
-
You guys have to see the 1080 P version
http://www.gamersyde.com/download_binar ... 96_en.html (http://www.gamersyde.com/download_binary_domain_machine_age_has_begun_1080p_-20496_en.html)
The graphics really shines there!
VANQUISH has nothing to stand on it's legs in front of this game technically.
Graphically, Vanquish was Superb, especially with everything going at the screen, but I do think Binary Domain looks better... its just that I don't think it blows it out of the water like you're trying to say.
Sort of reminded me of Snatcher.
Yeah, very Cyber-Punk-ish! It's been a while since we had a Japanese Cyber Punk!
-
people must read this interview
http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/action/bina ... e=previews (http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/action/binarydomain/news.html?sid=6310493&mode=previews)
HYPE reached million
-
Funny, watching the Binary Domain trailer I was like "Where's the Platinum Games logo?" then I remembered it ain't a PG developed game. D'oh!
-
I think Vanquish will be funnier than this... as a 3rd person shooter.. just that aspect. But I think this game will offer a ton of stuff that Vanquish lacked... like a good story mode and co-op.
I personally can't wait to team up with SEGAbits members and talk like the black guy in the trailer.
-
I saw this before but was super busy, it looks amazing... My favourite part was seeing chunks blow off of the giant bosses and the bit where they are sliding down the building on their backs!
-
Japanese official site updated with tons of new pictures!
http://www.binarydomaingame.jp/ (http://www.binarydomaingame.jp/)
it seems like there is a lot of different places to visit within Tokyo, nice!
-
 this is what I want!
(Ri)presented vastly better, brilliant enemy design, great sound, environments made with the right style and accuracy, then the whole should be pervaded by the "famous" human drama. Almost perfect.
But everything reminds me too much "I, Robot", in particular the film by Alex Proyas.
I hope the story and the scenario, however, surprise me. 8-)
-
OMG! after seeing the site I'm more and more hyped!!!
-
Game could definitely use better art direction for the leads and a more unique storyline, but gameplay wise it looks fantastic! Really excited to see what happens with this.
-
Everytime I read a good interview from an ambitious and inspiring director/producer I really wonder what Iizuka is still doing at sonicteam. The one mascot that needs it the most and represents the image of SEGA should deserve it.
The Nagoshi gamespot interview is the sorta thing I like to read from a SEGA staff.
-
The same Iizuka behind Sonic Colours and Sonic Generation?
He's kicking arse that's what he's doing. =)
-
Looks pretty good.
This may sound like a really small point, but I quite like the logo.
-

He also has made some significant mistakes.

You'd be suprised at how many of those 'mistakes' weren't actually his.
Whilst he has been involved with Sonic games since the beginning and has been attached to most of the games the biggest offenders out there are the ones hes had least involvment with...
Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) — Special Thanks
Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity (2008) — Recording Coordinator
Sega Superstars Tennis (2008) — Special Thanks
Sonic Unleashed (Xbox 360 & PS3 Version) (2008) — Level Design Special Thanks
Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood (2008) — Sonic Character Supervisor
Sonic and the Secret Rings (2007) — Special Thanks
Sonic Riders (2006) — Recording Coordinator
His biggest blunder ever was Shadow the Hedgehog... But I have a feeling he was pressured into making that by the money men who saw how popular the character was. But the games that really hurt the Sonic series most had little to do with him.
Of course NiGHTS JoD is all his fault and that was a shitty move but in all honesty hes probably done far more then good in his entire time in Sonic Team and lately he has been taking some big steps in improving the series, big time.
I personally like him... Then again I like Tony Blair, Tom from Tom&Jerry and Richard Nixon... I like being the devils advocate.

Hey, Sonic Chronicles has SEGA Nerds name in it... wait.. does it? I never finished it to find out.
Ah yes: http://info.sonicretro.org/Sonic_Chroni ... od#Manuals (http://info.sonicretro.org/Sonic_Chronicles:_The_Dark_Brotherhood#Manuals) last damn thing in the credits..

What the hell even happened to those guys, fallen giants? I remember they merged with another site and their readers didn't seem to like it much.
-
Well, Sharky and me wrote there for awhile. Graham (G) now works as a writer on a magazine about glass (and a bank again as well... not sure). Chris go re-married and has like 80 kids and adopted one, has a new site he is trying to get off the ground. Nathan (Segaholic2) works as an editor for several website and still does his forum poster over a GHZ: http://www.theghz.com/ (http://www.theghz.com/)
As for what happen to the site, well... its hosted over at the Kartel but is basically dead right now.
I still talk to all of them and I still hate Sharky.
-
I am not talking about his history and experience but the way he presents himself as a gamedeveloper and producer. And yeah since he has taken over we've gotten colors and now sonic generations, it just doesn't seem like enough though. It'd be nice to see a sonic game being presented and allready good looking where he gives the impression, even if it doesn't look bad, that he aims for much better. The famous ceiling running statement still bugs me.
Sonic colors was nice and sonic generations looks to becoming nice as well but a sonic game deserves more than just recycled straightforward gameplay and classic throwback with physics that arent on par with 20 year old games. It would take a better leader to make a sonic game on par with todays standards of gaming whereas back then sonic was setting the standards.

This site is basically an off-shoot of SegaNerds. George and I set this place up when we became angry at the new take over...

I was never a member there, but back when I ran SegaFanatic and I had the term 'Sega' in my google alerts (of course) sometimes it popped up and I'd go check in. I think remember reading Sharky's name over there, and that makes sense because on RadioSEGA I think he was SharkySN.

If you don't mind me asking, what did they do that you guys didn't like? Towards the end of Segafanatic we were gonna build a editable wiki portion where we could aggregate community review scores on sega titles new and old. It also allowed for written reviews, not just scores, more of it was built but parts of it have been pulled down. We never finished it.
The front page to the beta is still standing though http://http://sandbox.segafanatic.com/

Sharky has his own personal reasons. For me, it felt like I did most of the work and had zero say in calling shots. Its not always true, G is a great person and would ask me for opinions. My decisions came from the information he and Chris feed me, thus information kept changing.
Basically we had a terms of contract for the SEGA Nerds merger with the site that we won't name here. I agreed that if those (mostly selfish reasons) where meet, I would write articles for them.
In the end the agreements changed and I was the one doing most of the work. I decided to leave. After awhile me and sharky started talking about writing together. We were going to join some of the (awesome) established SEGA blogs out there, but in the end I didn't want to feel like I had to ask for permission to do what I wanted. So I got together with Sharky, Shadi and there was another coder for the site.. that did the original look.. I forget his name...
Also, Yes, I seen your site. I was actually thinking of contacting you to see if you were willing to sell the url name when the only thing that sounded good was 'sega fanatic'. Took me awhile to get SEGA Bits.. though it seems quite obvious.

Surprised neither of you ended up at SegaShiro, I considered hopping over there. Even contacted Fob and he offered me the opportunity but I wasn't sure I wanted to leave SegaFanatic yet. I loved writing about SEGA, but it's a lot of work, and I did almost all the writing by myself (~90% of all posts were mine). Exhausting.

Sharky & George are the only 2 Trolls on this forum. Be careful!

Yeah, I did articles for SEGA Nerds a few weeks after the merger and it felt like I had a new boss (which is basically true). Was limited in what I could do and did about 95% of the writing... even more most likely.
I don't mind the writing, but writing for someone eases gain? Especially when this person is not even a SEGA fan? No thanks.
SegaShiro was the one site we considered writing for.
STORM! is right, TROLOLOLOL.
-
Wow, this game looks not-shit now. I'm impressed.
-
I'd like to really know how the squad based gameplay is going to affect the battles in this title, Nagoshi and his team seem to be putting a lot of effort putting out how amazing and great that will be and it's probably what is going to set it apart.
Personally want to see how the storyline is going to be, I am expecting a Yakuza 1 situation, horrible dub that is unable to be taken seriously at times but an entertaining storyline underneath it.
Also that giant spider robot battle looked amazing. But I'm a sucker for giant boss fights.
-
now can you people imagine Yakuza 5 using this engine?
oh yes i want.
-
Speaking of Yakuza, it's pretty funny when you look at the Americans from Yakuza how less generic they look compared to this lot here, I suppose some of that could be upto the clothing they wear though (Gary Buster Holmes in his green top, Mack in his all black getup, although he looked like Eddie Murphy, Richardson in his leather overcoat)
Hell even that cyborg looked more distinctive than the main character!
-
Honestly I think the main character looks are pretty unique and original. Imo in a good way but maybe some would disagree :p
-
Wow, that was surprising, I was not quite expecting the game to jump THAT much, still need to see a lot more though.

I've a hunch the people will end up being the unwitting villains, playing stooge to some corporation trying to clean up some mess. The robots will be much more sympathetically portrayed, I'm sure.

Yeah, it is partially the outfits too. The black guy has really gotta go, he is the most painful to watch/listen to. Also make him wear a shirt, he has no armpit hair, Nagoshi's metrosexual influence there I suppose.
Screw it, make the entire cast Asian, doesn't the game take place in Japan anyways?
-
You know whats funny? Yakuza has really likable characters. They should change the black guy into something... better? His script right now is the black guy like the one from Gears of war that stands in the back and says "HELLL YA@!!!!" and stupid shit.
If you want to make a unique lead character, make him a non-stereotypical black man.

great job Pao!
-
Good stuff, Pao, now I dont have to wait 28405 million years to wait for the official site to load. Also agree with all your favourites.
I've a hunch the people will end up being the unwitting villains, playing stooge to some corporation trying to clean up some mess. The robots will be much more sympathetically portrayed, I'm sure.
Well from the trailer we know at least some good, even if they are just under the control of humans, robots still exist.
Also you're alive! I thought you'd finally been arrested for hitting on one of your students.
-
One of the lead characters will turn out to be a robot, then we will question what makes us human and what makes us 'alive' and if we where just killing people just like us.
Doing it right?
-
Kind of hoping this is not level based, but has a semi-open world where you have to explore or revisit sections of the world. Basically what we all assumed OF THE END was going to be.
The trailer really impressed me though, like everyone else. Jet skis, awwww yeah!
-

The official website has about 16 locations so it could be that, or 16 levels, but there seems to be a map that connects all the areas together. Still I'm hoping for something similar too.

I am back. I've just been exhausted this year. I am flying over to England though this summer, so perhaps we'll bump into each other unknowingly in a bar.
As for whether it'll be open world or linear, I'm inclined to believe it'll be open world because of the online element to the squads.
-
Oh it's JONBOY!
Long time no see, welcome back!
DON'T LEAVE US AGAIN!

BRB booking tickets out of the country. We will NOT bump into each. Nah just kidding man, if you're ever in West London let me know.

It's great to have him back, I've missed having a proper nemesis, I'm afraid who we have now just aren't doing it for me.

Apparently, the Japanese trailer for BD will be different than the English one, they say it will have different areas/music.
Nagoshi also says he is relieved that the reaction for the BD trailer was positive overseas, he will be at E3 to show off the game, but only for one day!
http://http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2011/05/02/binary_domain_japanese_trailer/
-
Nagoshi's team has certainly gotten good at making cityscapes. And it's cool to see them come up with some wild robot designs.
-
yessss i can't wait to see the another ver of the trailer
-
Can anyone whos any good at gifs make some from this trailer? Spesifically I want that seen where theres a giant robot and hes shooting parts off of it.
Everything between 0:56 and 1:02 would be awesome!
-
Did I do it right?

-
I enjoy watching all those robot parts break off, in particular the green ones.
Hoping we'll get more of those robots with flesh in gameplay and not just cutscenes, it'll be fun damaging them to slowly reveal their metal exoskeleton.
-
Yeah. I like how they animate in such a freaky way. It just sets the right angsty mood. Nagoshi did say a lot about the AI so i'm interested in seeing how that's going to turn out

Awesome, thanks!
-
Based on the interviews I've read Nagoshi says the AI of your robot opponents is going to be really dynamic. I can't wait to see more as this game has sparked my interest. It might top Lost Planet as my favorite third-person shooter for this generation!
-
Thanks for those scans, Suzuki Yu!

some new info from the famitsu article
- Can change member during the battle, and different members will have different cutscene and animations.
- Player able to chose who to team up with to play the game.
- Teammate's AI will change by depending player's actions.
- CG story is one of the highlight of this game, since it was developed by Yakuza team.
- Freedom of battle is one of the highlight.
- Variety boss and all boss will have tons of different attack pattern.
- Utilizing different battle environment, for example run up to second floor and jump to an enemy's head and attack.
- Player can use any object as weapon, as long as you can see them on screen which kind of similar to Yakuza.
- Even with the same boss, by combining different members will change how player plays, there are many kind of battle patterns.
Interview Part 1 summaries:
- In terms of battle Binary Domain is focusing in co-op with teammate, normally in other TPS, NPC will only following player, while some of them were not useful at all, in Binary Domain we want player feels 'Working closely together to combat'.
- Yakuza End Of The Day was not made, because of trying to develop Binary Domain.
- Yakuza End Of The Day is not real TPS, while Binary Domain is.
- There are some real Tokyo's street name in the game.
- Upper city is all new kind of futuristic city, while the lower part have place like Shibuya, Roppongi and so on.

^ Ooooh!!
I like the music in this one! I believe its better than the one used in the English trailer, hopefully its part of the OST!
Also, JAPANESE DUB!! If the Japanese version had English subtitles, I might get it instead... The English voices aren't so good from the debut trailer.
-
yeah music is great!
as for Jap Dub , it was already confirmed in the latest Famitsu when they announced the japanese voice cover for Dan Marshall and Roi Boateng.
-
after watching the trailer multiple times , I've noticed two new kinds of enemies!
-
Lol if the US trailer wasn't good enough, the Jap trailer ended up being even better.
The music was great. It sounded more like what might be hearing in the game.
-
Man I really hope this game isn't dubbed in English for Western Shores and Japanese for Eastern. That totally takes the fun out.
I like a fusion of languages, like we have in real life it also helps me to pick up and understand foreign languages.
I hope they don't have a seperate English/Japanese language option.
-
Why wouldn't it? I mean, what is wrong with that. You are one of the users on here that complained that SEGA didn't dub Yakuza (a game about Japanese culture) into English. We have not seen anything about the squads speaking in Japanese, maybe the narrator only talks in Japanese for the trailers, like in the Yakuza English trailers. We don't know yet.
If you want to be legit, the English version should be Japanese only, since the game takes place in Japan.
-
^^
like i said in the previous page, japanese dub confirmed in the latest Famitsu magazine with the voice cover announcement for Dan Marshall & Roi.
-
Seeing as it's intended to appeal to Western audiences, it seems almost certain that it will be in English for the English-speaking nations. I just hope the English dialog and voice-acting is written and directed by an English speaker and not Nagoshi himself.
-
I really liked the music in the Japanese trailer. I hope the game's soundtrack will have pieces of music like that.
The more I see of Binary Domain the more I become interested in it. It's looking superb.
-
The game is playable at E3!

Awesome link!
Though there was a perverted picture with a row of robots bent over backwards.
What do those scientists do to those poor robots??
-
Aw, they didn't have any info about the female character. I was most interested in hearing about her out of all the squad mates.
-
I think there's a couple of women in the squad.

There was few Hands-on from the show, A lot of them are very postive, except maybe IGN, which is expected since the writer was Hilary.
Anyway...
Gamepro:
Binary Domain Is a Trust-Based Shooter
Don't let its generic title and premise fool you -- Sega's squad-based shooter presents some interesting twists to the cover-based action genre.
............
First of those flourishes is the game's trust mechanic. Being a squad-based shooter, you'll have to regularly interact with and assign orders to your teammates. And based on the quality of your leadership, your teammates will either cover you, heal you, and fight alongside you; or they'll lay back and leave you to your own devices -- and, while Sega wouldn't outright confirm it, quite possibly turn on you mid-battle if you're a real bastard.
You'll begin every mission by selecting two squad-mates to accompany you (I opted for burly heavy gunner Big Bo and femme fatale sniper Faye), along with customizing your weapons load-out. Obvious combat alterations aside, I was told that the missions themselves change slightly based on who you select pre-battle. The only difference I noticed between my hands-on and the fellow that played before me (he opted for demolitions expert Rachel instead of sniper Faye) was that Big Bo was now quick to comment on our female squad-mate's "dynamite body," complete with a contextual camera prompt presenting an optional (and quite gratuitous) ass-shot of Faye. Hmm.
.....
Anyway, the gameplay itself was pretty damn slick -- it certainly borrows heavily from similar cover-based shooters, but the arcade-inspired scoring and "procedural damage" systems (certain cover takes longer to destroy based on its material, and robot enemies react in real-time to limb-specific attacks) really give it that extra impact that's too-often absent from these kinds of games. Your score, which is earned during combat, can be redeemed at in-mission store kiosks, where you can buy new weapons, weapon upgrades, and items.
Based on its generic title and setting, I was pretty ready to dismiss Sega's shooter before I even picked up the controller. But I'll admit -- I was pretty won over with what I saw on the E3 showroom floor (my demo ended with me leaping onto an enormous robot's head and blasting it point-blank until it collapsed into a heap, which is exactly what I've felt like doing all week). Expect Binary Domain to hit stores in February 2012.

The development team behind Toshihiro Nagoshi's new title held a behind closed doors demonstration at E3. They discussed the game's back story, as well some innovative gameplay features.
The demo kicked off (in Japanese, on PS3) and the setting for the squad-based third-person shooter was summarised. It’s a near future Tokyo, set in the year 2080 where robotic AI life forms are commonplace in society. However, all is not well. An attack on the US has been perpetrated by an AI, disguised Terminator-style in human flesh. This is the point at which the lead character and his four man team are injected into the story. Their goal is to find those responsible for the attack. GK asked the development team whether they drew inspiration from the works of Isaac Asimov, but it was their vision of a near future Tokyo, not the famous sci-fi author that seeded the story.
As the gameplay demo progressed, it became clear that Binary Domain possessed some innovative features such as a voice activated command system that allowed the player to instruct his squad. Simple commands like ‘fire’ and ‘retreat’ were seen in action. A ‘help’ command allowed your comrades to revive you in game. The list of commands was large though not customisable and involved speaking into a headset. A trust game dynamic will also affect the relationship between the squad members, and whether they act accordingly to commands. One particular feature stood out: the procedural damage system allowed downed enemies to carry on fighting. This affects both standard enemy types and also large bosses. GK saw legless robots fight on and the developers highlighted that any robot without a head would continue the fight, but would be unable to distinguish friend from foe. This is certainly something that could open the way for some intelligent tactics during fire fights.
The core of Binary Domain is still a cover-based squad shooter. As you’d expect, your team has specific character classes such as ‘Heavy Gunner’ and ‘Spec Ops.’ The credit-based game currency is also earned by enemy kills. You can also expect 30 enemies, multiplayer and the campaign to span six chapters with two to three large bosses in each. The demo concluded with large boss battle which again demonstrated the procedural damage system.
I was impressed with original feature set of Binary Domain and it’s certainly one to look out for.

The IGN preview did not mention anything except the trust gameplay, very poor preview. I also disliked how the writter talked about the production values, controls and AI not being great but never expanded on it.
-
This game sounds really awesome. Loving the trust system and procedural damage on robots. I really hope it takes off (although I expect it to bomb since the west seems to dislike shooting robots instead of russians - Vanquish even had Russian Robots and it didn't win people over....).
-
another very positive hands-on
Yesterday I had a chance to sit down and watch a demonstration of Binary Domain, an upcoming action title being published by SEGA and developed by the same team that worked on the Yakuza series. The developers walked us through some of the game mechanics and explained a little bit about the ideas behind what was going on in the game.
Binary Domain takes place in a future where robots are common, though there is a law against making them humanoid in appearance. This law is broken, and a multi-national team tracks the source of the issue to Japan. They didn’t mention specifically if the story was inspired by Blade Runner or perhaps Snatcher, but it certainly sounds familiar. Anyway, the portion they showed had you choose two squad members, from a choice of four, to join the main character. These squad mates are AI controlled, and when choosing them, there is a bar next to the character that shows the level of trust that they have in the protagonist. They said that depending on the level of trust, it can open up different options for what happens within a level in the game.
Once the level started, they showed that the AI can be controlled both by voice commands or by quick controller inputs. I thought that was great, since there have been games that have used vocal recognition for squad control to great effect in the past, except that the mechanic has been hardly used for any games, especially in the last few years. Maybe I was imagining this as well, but it appeared that the on screen character also would move his lips along with the person presenting the game when he spoke or used the voice commands.
Aside from the squad voice commands, the game plays a lot like Gears of War. I had a chance to play the game on the E3 floor, and these controls will be easy for anyone who has played Gears to pick up and play. I tried it on the PS3, so the roadie run/cover button was mapped to X. You can pop in and out of cover for firing, throwing grenades or switch between cover on the fly. Where it differentiates from Gears was with the enemy design. The robots in the game aren’t easy to kill; even the grunts have armor protecting their weak points. There are a lot of ways to take enemies out. The basic enemy robot is humanoid in design, so you can shoot out their legs, then they’ll crawl after you and can be melee stomped. You can take out their arms/chest, and interesting enough when you take out their head they just start firing blindly at whatever is near, including other robots. This distracts all nearby enemies and makes them concentrate on the rogue robot.
Multiple enemy types where on display, each with different weak points. At the end of one level that was shown there was a gigantic spider robot where you had to take out the armor covering weak points, and then take out the weak spots. Once each were destroyed the enemy grew more aggressive. Even though the game was pre-alpha, the AI was working great both for the squad AI and enemy AI. It looked great with a lot of detail and cool little effects.
The demo also showed off little things, like how the squad partners would talk to the character you control and ask questions that had different answers, which in turn effected trust levels, which in turn effected how things could play out or the effectiveness of that character responding to commands. While the game controlled like a Gears of War clone, Binary Domain is certainly a different style of game.
One thing I had asked was if there were any versus or co-op modes. While versus mode wasn’t something that was planned, they mentioned that they were working on a co-op missions that were separate from the main narrative. Which, after playing the demo, makes sense. The squad trust/dialog system and how it effects the levels would not work in a co-op story, but I’m glad to hear that they are going to include some type of co-op functionality.
Again, this was an early build of the game; even though it was impressive, they are still adding more to it. Considering how well it already looks, Binary Domain could really be a AAA game when it eventually is released.
-
Basically every impression is glowing and extremely positive except IGN, typical.
But I am sad to see no one has even bothered to upload a video of it online or even how badly SEGA has dropped the ball, should have posted an E3 Binary Domain trailer at the very least. I hope someone at least took a video of this game.
-
You know Nagoshi is in control of all trailers/videos. We're not going to see anything until he's spent the requisite time in the tanning booth envisioning it, working out all the camera angles in his mind.
-
The booth clerks prohibited people from filming Binary Domain, according to some E3 atendee on Twitter.
Perhaps that's why there wasn't any footage for it.
But seriously, SEGA should have gotten themselves a press conference... If companies like Ubisoft and Konami get one, why the SEGA doesn't? When was the last time they had an E3 conference? I feel its such a wasted opportunity with all the awesome games Sega is bringing to the show.

Oh... Well than that makes the lack of an E3 trailer even worse, how are you going to hype people without any new media? One of the worst decisions from SEGA recently.

I was thinking exactly the same, most times it's fine when their lineup is not aiming to be big, but they must have high sales expectations of Sonic Generations, Binary Domain and Anarchy Reigns (Wither they meet that is an entirely different matter)
And it is not like they cannot fill up an hour slot either, 10 minutes with Nagoshi and Binary Domain, 10 minutes with Iizuka and Sonic Generations, 10 minutes with Guardian Heroes or Anarchy Reigns, etc. Wasted opportunity.

Looks awesome, I feel like the weapons packs a punch!
My only complaint is that the animations are not very good, but its in Pre-alpha state maybe it will be fixed later, it won't bother me much if it didn't.
And we STILL need a new trailer!
-
Muy bueno, Years of War!
Seriously though, I am really impressed with how the level design in Binary Domain looks! I cannot wait to see more of this, and am honestly not that worried with how the final product will be, I have faith in AM4.
I cannot blame the game for this, but one of my biggest pet peeve with games today is that damn red crap around the screen when you get hurt. Seriously, fuck that. It looks so ugly.

I agree with you. I know the effect is supposed to be immersive but I would rather have a standard health bar.
That being said. I like how Binary Domain is turning out. Looks like I'll have another third-person shooter to play on my PS3 besides the Lost Planet games. =)
-

Yeah it's something I hate too, theres nothing wrong with health bars.. I dont know why the 3rd person shooter developers feel the need to reinvent the wheel with that.
At least it's decent enough not to shit it right in the middle of the screem like Gears of Wars stupid skull thing.
-
I think in most cases it serves a dual purpose of letting you know you're taking serious damage, and indicating what direction the damage is coming from.... so in the latter case it's serving a function that a health bar can't really provide.
-

I might agree for some games, but there are others where looking for the health bar is out of the range of what you need to be focusing on. Third-person cover-based shooters probably can afford a health bar, but some first-person games can't.
When I fight in Oblivion, it really pisses me off when my character dies and I had no idea I was taking that much damage, especially while blocking. "Three hits from a random boar just killed me? Are you serious?" I'd rather have some visual feedback bleed into the screen rather than have to look away from my target while I need to be analyzing their next move.
-
I think that all came about when the 'No HUD!' thing was in vogue and developers were tryin to find ways to minimise all the display on screen so it wouldn't take away from the action. I can kind of see why they did it, but sometimes they go a bit overboard. It doesn't necessarily hurt immersion to have a health bar etc.
-
At least it's decent enough not to shit it right in the middle of the screem like Gears of Wars stupid skull thing.
Actually, I prefer this. When you are not aiming there is no reticule in those games, so the more you get hurt, the more "Help" you get to aim as a light red circle forms around where it should be while you are panicking. Very clever idea.

Games should just go back to the classic designs where the darker and redder your enemy is, the less amount of health it has. Who cares if it is unrealistic?
Anyways, Halo (outside of ODST) does it fine with the flashing colored bars. I am not sure why more games cannot just do this. I quite like how Dead Space pulled it off too, with the thing on your back.
-
^I also like how old RE games used to do it with your character limping worse and worse the more damage you took. The Dreamcast release of CV with the heart monitor in the VMU was all kinds of awesome too.
-
[youtube:2x76yi8n]U08v3J3Z-2U[/youtube:2x76yi8n]

I hope the final game isn't too restrictive in how you approach combat. I'm not to fond of cover-based shooting, but it's possible in that video that's just how the guy wanted to play.

Awesome, thanks Pao/Riki
IGN can suck on that! Their preview was awful, they even failed to mention the key features of the game... Like the voice command system and the trust system. I'm starting to think they didn't even play it and just watched someone play it for a couple of minuites and did a quick qrite up so they could get back to sucking Nintendos big fat Wii-U.
-
SEGA need to get a demo out now really, that's the best way to help establish a new IP just like Capcom did with LP and Dead Rising . Give out a nice quality early demo to get people in the mood and build up some hype for the final game

Silly gooses...

i don't think it's a good idea if the game is still in pre-alpha stage.
-
i don't think it's a good idea if the game is still in pre-alpha stage.
Lost Planet demo came out a year before the game. For a new IP get the demo out and let people play it . For the vids the E3 demo code looked more than Fine. Yes I know demo are a pain and developers hate take the unfinished code from the development kits, but get hype for a new IP I think it's a must
-
Lost Planet and Dead Rising were special cases in that they arrived to the Xbox 360 very early, when people were just genuinely starved for games. This is different and the market is a lot stronger now on both HD platforms, letting people get a hold of a very unfinished product is potentially a death sentence, especially if people will have to wait so long for the final game.
-
I take those points, but the trouble is Gears and COD will be set to ship soon and they will start to dominate the chats and press . The E3 code looked good enough get that out along with a demo of Sonic.
It's really hard for a new IP to get established more so when it's trying to take on Gears . I think with out a demo Vanqusihed would have sold even less
-
The demo does not need to come out right now, I personally do not think it would be a great idea since waiting for too long can also have the opposite effect on hype and eventually people will just talk about games that have come out, instead of a game that is coming out.
Although I do think they need to have two demos out, personally if they can dominate Tokyo Game Show coverage (Which is entirely doable) they should release a demo soon after the event since I'm sure there is bound to be a lot of buzz, then closer to release, sometime like January, they ought to release another demo.
Of course this needs to be backed up by a strong marketing campaign too, which can go either way with SEGA.
-
If it came out now, by the time Gears 3 and Uncharted 3 are out, no one will give a shit about Binary Domain's unfinished demo.
Now if they wait until February or March, most people who play those two games a lot will already be uninterested in their single player campaigns and will mostly only care for the multiplayer. As far as I am aware, Binary Domain has no competitive online? If it is long enough, it might get people really excited after they are out of Gears and Uncharted.

Binary Domain is coming out in February, I think they would need a demo out before then.
And it's been confirmed that Binary Domain has an online co-op so it might have competitive online but the only details SEGA has said is it will not feature the same characters so it is seperate from the main storyline. I guess we'll find out a lot more at TGS.

What like with Vanquished ?. The best way to get interest in your game is to let people play it. Now would be good timing becasue come September the world will be talking of Gears

This is game really made for the West, I don't see it dominating the TGS at all. Get a nice demo out and some great trailers on Marketplace , sort of like SEGA did for Kezan and the Yakuza series on the PS3
-
Nagoshi said that in order to ensure a game is a hit, he must spend time envisioning everything about it... that includes the game itself, as well as the packaging, the ad campaign, and even the expressions on peoples' faces as they see the ads and package. So all your talk of demos and trade shows is cute, but the real work is going on inside the brain of that most tanned of gentlemen.

A demo for Vanquish came out early too. The timing was generally just wrong with the game, but a big reason it did not sell as good as it could have was because it had no multiplayer features. People expect this kind of stuff in games like that.
I am sure Anarchy Reigns will get an early demo too, and there is just absolutely no chance of that game becoming a good seller at all.

I am thinking it is unlikely that it will have competitive online multiplayer because they have not mentioned it yet. Even when it is a forced feature, this kind of thing always gets more people interested from the outset. I think this is fine though, rather have a great campaign with no online rather than a good campaign with an okay multiplayer feature with lame levels.

Lets hope he and SEGA does better than Yakuza series then on all counts if they want this to be a worldwide Hit and do well in the West . I thought Lenticular Sleeve Vanqished to be rather nice never helped with the games sales though and SEGA west marketing was up to it's usual poor standards

Its surprising how different the first trailer and the following two have been. I'm liking the new locales we are seeing, though I doubt the virtual strip club would be as awesome as the strip club fight in Yakuza 3.
Here's hoping they do not overuse the bosses too much though, I've seen the white giant with the shiled in three different situations now.

Bayonetta and Vanquish did this a lot, I can see Binary Domain doing it.
Hopefully it is more like Bayonetta where the setting being changed gives the boss a completely different feel in every way, and not like how Vanquish just had two bosses at the same time or changed their color and just made them stronger.
Binary Domain is really looking just so awesome. I might need to get one of these to complete the experience:

Well the first time we see him, you've got buildings around you to give you plenty of cover and will give you a better chance at hitting his weakspots if you get in.
The second time we see him, in some time of warehouse with metal freights with, from the looks of it, only cover to hide behind and nothing to climb up so you get a better shot at his weakpoint.
Admittedly the third and fourth time we've seen him is cutscenes, one where he swings at two of the characters that causes them to slide down a building and the other time in a big open field, where he is timely shot out by an RPG, so not sure if those are actual encounters.
Unless, he's not a boss and just a regular enemy.... and the bosses are even BIGGER!

I just watched the first trailer again and it showed everything that has been revealed or atleast alluded to it.
The whole squad interaction/trust/rapport etc and Bilinguality were all confirmed in the 1st trailer, I was really worried when Japan and the World started receiving seperate trailers but the original trailer clearly shows english dialogue and japanese dialogue in the same trailer.
Now if only they can address the character models all will be fine.

I do not know if this was mentioned before, but someone called Antony Johnston (http://http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antony_Johnston) is working on the script and the story of the game, I do not know him, but he seems famous.

Hmm. I dunno why people are comparing this to just Terminator and I Robot, from everything weve seen so far its more or less Blade Runner being the central inspiration here. I mean the last trailer before this new one and some of the tag lines are kinda giving away a potential plot twist.

white robot fighting with your squad! :O

ALL LIIIIIESSSS!!

I remember that first teaser, then look at this and im like wtf. The visuals looked bland and unfinished, now it's like the first teaser never happened. The changes are subtle.
Seriously, even the voice acting doesn't seem that bad now

Weapons Trailer

Woyyy, these new trailers look really good... voice acting is competent... weapons look nice, and the destructibility of the robots looks fantastic.
I think there's going to be some other element to the robots, not just that they think they're human, with manufactured memories like the replicants in Blade Runner... but that they are partially organic, and have been raised from babies -- remember the ending of the first trailer?
-
They didn't even try putting original weapons in this game, did they? :/
-
Maybe those are just the basic weapons and they have another trailer for advanced ones?

this was on purpose. they said before that they don't want to create anything in this game like if it was from the year 2300 and this is including weapons, robot designs.. etc
they are aiming for a believable 2080 settings.

You could still create original weapons in a 2080 setting. Else it's just a dumb excuse for lazy design.

don't bother criticizing the game here. You'll get screamed at.
Just trying to save you from some trouble =
It's an unspoken rule that you can't criticize anything by Nagoshi

Yeeeeah no, people have been vocal about the graphics of the Yakuza game being dated and when this game was first announced, it was almost universially panned by all members on this very forum.
There is no need for reversionist history simply because you got into an argument with people about it.

Honestly, who does? there are few games that really has "original weapons".

Or if they do it's usually just one original weapon. As long as the firearms are satisfying to use we're good!

not to mention that one of greatest shooters ever created "HALO" telling a story in the 26th century, even though most of the human weapons are designed like your usual basic weapons!
can we expect a laser beam weapon in 2080 ?!!

Most popular games do have unique weapons. Gears of War - which this is inspired by - added things like chainsaw bayonets and flail-grenades to make things more interesting.
-
I like that they are going the basic route with these weapons. 2080 is not that far off, and while firearm technology will obviously improve till then, it is very unlikely we will see laser-based weapons or anything like that. Besides, Binary Domain's strong points come from it's use of AI and how parts of enemies fall apart. I really am excited to see how they will use the environment to do things like hold themselves up when they are missing a leg and the like, very cool stuff.
I hate when games like Conduit try WAY too hard to create overly unique weapons and I just get confused with what does what and how to properly use anything. It is unnecessary and only the biggest fans learn these that well.
Halo games usually have a great balance with this stuff where the human weapons damage flesh more, but barely do much to shields and visa versa. Binary Domain does not really need anything like that because the focus is on planned team strategies, not bursting into the heat of battle.
And for Shadi's comments... What? Almost everyone here hates OF THE END and I do not even think the last two Super Monkey Ball games even HAD a topic on these forums. Where the Hell have you been?
-
It's likely the game will have some kind of original weapon, they are probably just saving the cool stuff for the end.
-
The game also has close range combat, which they have not shown off yet. I assume you can use broken robot limbs as melee weapons.
Either way, we reaaaally have not seen enough of the game for people to entirely call of the game already. February 2012 is still a really long ways away.

Yes but isn't this game kinda grounded in realism? I don't think you could grow robot babies but if he's using that film Artificial Intelligence as inspiration as well, maybe they just change bodies to give the illusion that they are growing/aging normally.
