That has been done recently in Deadly Premonition, though in a smaller scale.

I was going to ask Storm if the game was cheap for PS3 in Japan, that way I could trade some US only games he wanted for it. But forgot to.

Holy shit almost everything they boasted about here was done in Shenmue over a decade ago... Amazing...
