Most people have known about it for a little while now, but Capcom has announced that another version of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will be coming out near the end of this year in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. It looks like all the existing characters will have some new moves and there will be 12 new fighters along with new backgrounds, gameplay tweaks, more online modes and some slight visual changes.

Personally, I think Capcom should treat this title similar to Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition if possible. Have a disc release for newcomers as well as a DLC pack for people who already own Marvel vs. Capcom 3. That way, everyone is happy. :)
What do you all think?
-
Nice! I was holding off til MvC3 dipped in price, but this is much better to wait for!
Plus I hear a certain act attorney will appear in the game?
Shame no Power Stone characters made it in. Wang-Tang would have kicked ass. Or Fokker.
-
I nearly lost my shit when I saw Ghost Rider confirmed this morning. Cannot wait to start wrecking everyone with Chains and Hellfire, not to mention PENANCE STARE is his level 3. Fucking awesome.
SPOILERS FOR NEW CHARACTER LEAKS:
And yes Barrington, Phoenix Wright was leaked, along with a personal favourite of mine, Frank West. Also, NEMESIS from RE3 will be rocking the trenchcoat in this game from what I hear (although I'm kinda miffed that Resi gets FOUR reps in this game now, would have preferred they left Jill out and went with another franchise.), and Vergil from DMC.
On Marvel we have some more coming, but I can't remember who they are apart from Iron Fist. The list will be all over SRK and news sites anyway, so I'm sure you can find it.
-
Dr. Strange was among the leaked characters. I'm quite excited to play as him. Now I can finally beat Dormmamu and Shuma-Gorath with the Sorcerer Supreme.
-
I really wanna see the rest of the characters in action, I speculate that like last time, they're gonna show off two a month which makes sense since it comes out in November. I just hope they have an Ace Attorney courtroom as a stage.
-
More Ghouls N Ghosts representation, right on! I also always really thought Nemesis would be perfect for this.
The new cast kind of sucks. No new women? No M Bison or Guile? Rocket Raccoon I never heard of, would have preferred Howard the Duck, but he IS pretty unique. I like how Phoenix Wright is in, but what will he do? Pointing attacks? Gavel? Ehhh, I guess that is kind of cool, but still...
No Mega Man is absolutely bizarre. Capcom must really want it dead I guess.
I hate how they specifically gimped the original version of the game and now it is completely worthless. Honestly, I think I prefer Activision to Capcom now. They are really, really low on my list.
-
I would rather see Capcom Versus SEGA/SNK/etc. Marvel is terrible and annoying.

Never heard of Rocket Raccoon either, I agree Howard the Duck would have been much better. As for Phoenix Wright, no idea what to expect from him. Maybe he'll pull things from his briefcase and chuck it at people.
He might also be like Captain Commando in that he can call on his buddies to attack for him.
I don't think they really needed Mega Man, they already have Zero and Tron in the game. Would rather see them reach out to other franchises than keep adding from ones already represented. Which is why I wish they never wasted a slot with Jill who nobody wanted (in this RE5 form) and is low tier so nobody plays her competitively either... Would have preferred they included someone from Killer 7 or Gene from God Hand.

I don't get this at all, how was the original 'specifically gimped'?
-
I'd love to see Phoenix using murder weapons from the series for his attacks. Would go against his character a bit, but why not use all the evidence to his advantage? Like The Thinker alarm clock.
-
They're putting the Ace Attorney guy in? They said they couldn't put him in another Capcom V.S game because of international language issues. And they put him in this game? Nice trying Capcom.
Megaman would be nice but as others said, they have Zero in so what is the point? IMO, I think they should of went with Megaman INSTEAD of Zero.
-
I would've loved to see Dr. Wily as far as Mega Man characters go, but I guess you could say he would be too similar to Tron Bonne.
Hawkeye's Level 3 Hyper Combo is great. Love the Ant Man/Giant Man combo.
-

They've come up with odd reasons for some character exclusions, look at what they said about Ghost Rider at first, seeing him here makes me wonder how sane they were when they said that.

I'm in the exact same boat. I'm really happy that I held out on this one, especially after being burned with the original version of Street Fighter IV.
-

The original game was released five months ago. There is no way they were not aware of this version, they even said Frank West was removed from the original release late. It is obvious that besides new characters that it will also have tons of new modes too. They also promised after original Street Fighter IV that they would never not offer updates like this and not allow them as DLC... But guess what...
I am all for updating games, in fact I absolutely love it! With Capcom though, any early adopters are completely shut out. Marvel vs Capcom 3 is completely obsolete when Ultimate arrives, and that just should never happen. I can maybe understand if this release was coming 3, maybe even 2 years after the first release, but it has not even been half a year!
I still do like Capcom, but their last few years have been so hard to defend. It is really getting out of hand. Their fan-related PR is usually so good, too.
-
I wonder how much space all the new characters, features, balance tweaks, etc. would take up if they had a downloadable version like with SSF4:AE?

Don't forget about Dead Rising 2: Off The Record.
Capcom's been pretty big on releasing DLC as full priced games lately.
-
Fuck capcom. Worse publisher this year. I'm surprised they haven't announced Capcom online passes yet.
-
Don't forget about Dead Rising 2: Off The Record.
Capcom's been pretty big on releasing DLC as full priced games lately.
But it's also available as DLC if you already have DR2. I think that releasing a disc and DLC combination is fine.
As for MVC3, I had forgotten that it only came out this Feb, which is a bit soon to be releasing a follow up. Having said that, I still feel that i got my money's worth well and truly out of the game, and i'm stoked that there is going to be new characters, new stages and improvements to the system coming out already. Yes, it could have been DLC, but how much would all that combined be in DLC? Each character would be at least 800 points right? Even 400 points means that it would cost 4800 points which translates to $60 anyway. Not to mention the new moves and balance changes and system upgrades etc.
I can understand that some might rather have the option to just buy one or two characters, but personally I prefer them all to be included at once, that way everyone has the same options and roster.
I don't get the idea of being 'burned' when buying the first iteration of a fighting game either. If you bought it and were still playing online/competitively etc by the time the new one comes out, then wouldn't you be enjoying the game and itching for new content by that stage anyway? If you aren't still playing the game by the time a new one comes out, then why do you care? You obviously played the last one to the extent you enjoyed and if you think new content will be worth buying you can, or you can just not buy it since you weren't playing Street Fighter/Marvel/BlazBlue anyway...
-
Regardless of any of that, once Ultimate is released, the version out now is entirely obsolete. With stuff like Halo, each release is different enough that it makes sense to go back to the old ones because not only do they play differently, but their fanbase is unique for each one. With this, people playing the original version will be considered too poor or cheap to buy the new version and basically the entire fanbase will drop it to move on to the next game. It just flat out sucks what Capcom is doing.
TL;DR original Marvel vs Capcom 3 was a $60 beta.
-
Read what I said before: the people who played MVC3 and play it avidly and will still be playing it avidly in November have been wanting new characters, new modes, rebalance and better online fora while. FUCK YOU CAPCOM, YOU SHOULD MAKE US WAIT LONGER. Do you think Sega has the right idea by making us wait 4 years for a new VF? I'm sure that's a great way to please the fanbase.
Like I said before, if someone has been playing the game and still wants to play it by the time November rolls around (about 8 months worht of play) then I don't see why they wouldn't jump at the chance to get more out of their favourite game with new characters and features.
If they got tired of MVC3 already (or will be tired of it by the time November comes) then why would they care if there's a new version or not? They obviously got their fill of the game already and don't want to play it anymore, so they can happily ignore it.
-
Can't believe you are defending Capcom, Mademan.
-
Can't believe you are defending Capcom, Mademan.
Why would i complain? I've been wanting Ghost Rider, Frank West and more characters in general for MVC3 for a while now, not to mention wishing it it had better net play and some upgrades, then I'm supposed to be angry at Capcom for basically saying 'Hey, here is everything you wanted, it'll be ready for you by November!'?
-
You mean I should pay them 40 fucking dollars after I paid 70 dollars for MVC3? You know, most of the characters in Ultimate where pulled out of the release the last minute and then promised as DLC. We got no DLC, we got a 8 month title that got no support.
I can't support Capcom. I have decided I will buy no more Capcom games. It hurts, being a fan of theirs since a kid. But they fucked everyone over, especially fans like me.
-
^That's cool, I'll just have fun playing the games I enjoy while you're protesting them.
EDIT: Also, do you actually have proof that they've 'pulled characters' from the game? I doubt that was the case, the game shipped with nearly 40 characters, I don't see how we got short-changed in the slightest.
Even if these characters were planned for DLC, would you really be happier paying $10 per character for these 12? I would personally rather just buy the disc for $40 or whatever it'll be and get them all in one pack along with new stages/new modes/rebalancing.
I think it's funny that Capcom could have just sat on this stuff for another 5 months and THEN reveal it and people wouldn't have a problem (outside of the usual 'Fighting games should never have an update ever' crowd). Personally I'd rather get it sooner rather than later.
-
Fans uncovered some of the characters before they revealed the 40 characters. Capcom said they 'didn't fit in' the game so they didn't make it....
But now they fit in cuz you have to pay 40 dollars more.
Sorry, I didn't buy Super Street Fighter 4 and I won't buy this load of horse shit. If Capcom gave 2 shits about fans they would release it as DLC and allow the original version to work with the Ultimate version online.
-
I guess I stand somewhere in the middle for how I feel about this. I'm not someone who really plays competitively that much. (I only have about 3 hours for my total online time with Marvel vs. Capcom 3) I play mostly for the arcade mode and the occasional local match with friends and family. So while I am excited for more characters, stages etc, I don't think I'll be buying this when it first comes out. (Unless it is somehow also a DLC package) I will however probably ask for it as a Christmas gift or pick it up in the early months of next year. :) I do love Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and I am excited to eventually get this new content.
-
^How do you think Dr Strange is going to play Cosmic? I'm really interested to see what he's like to be honest, even though I don't know much about the character. It'll be interesting to see how they incorporate his magic into the game.
I'm really interested to see Frank West as well, I think he played really well and was a lot of fun in TVC, so I hope most of that carries over. Wall bounce Zombie Spree into REAL MEGABUSTER all day...
-

Yeah, I'm really interested in seeing how Dr. Strange's moves will look. I'm guessing he'll be able to fly, teleport and have several projectile attacks. So maybe a faster, more offensive version of M.O.D.O.K.? I'm very curious to see how he turns out.
-
I'm really anxious to see how Phoenix Wright will work in this, the dev team is debating on how good he'll be competitively. Seth Killian also confirmed that there will be a stage based on the Days of Future Past story arc:

The only one they 'uncovered' was Frank West in the original silhouettes when the game was announced. The devs said he didn't make the cut because they never would have had him finished to satisfaction in time for release. Everyone else had been asked about or requested but there was never any proof that they were ever in the game or close to completion. Ghost Rider was said not to be in because they couldn't figure out how to implement his bike. Obviously he was popular and requested enough that they included him in Ultimate, ditto Iron Fist, Strider etc.
And if you would be happy with it as DLC, then why not as a disc release? You would rather pay more and have it take up tons of HDD space? I'll stick with the disc.
I really don't understand what you want from Capcom. They made a bunch of new content for the game, and they are putting it on sale. If you want the new content, go and buy it (like I will), if you are happy with what you already have with Vanilla MVC3, then don't buy it.

Yeah almost certainly he'll be a zoning character, probably with low health but high damage output. Rocket Raccoon sounds interesting too, SRK posters are tipping he'll play like Cable from MVC2 with GUNS GUNS GUNS.
I really want to see Nemesis in action too, looks like he carries a rocket launcher with him at all times too.
-
Everyone else had been asked about or requested but there was never any proof that they were ever in the game or close to completion.
Well a majority of the new characters were either originally in development for FoTW (Frank and Nemesis for example) or cameoed in certain endings (Phoenix Wright, Ghost Rider, Iron Fist, Dr. Strange, etc) just to let you know.
Ghost Rider was said not to be in because they couldn't figure out how to implement his bike.
Which I still don't really get, especially seeing how he works in here.
And if you would be happy with it as DLC, then why not as a disc release?
Because that would make the already bought copy of Fate of Two Worlds obsolete?
You would rather pay more and have it take up tons of HDD space? I'll stick with the disc.
Same here.
I really don't understand what you want from Capcom.
Isn't it obvious? He's still mad that Legends 3 got canned.
-

I know about Frank, but didn't know about Nemesis. As for the cameos, having an illustration in the background is hardly an indication that they were being worked on as a playable character or anything. Hell, Fing Fang Foom is in Arthur's ending, I doubt he's about to be revealed anytime soon.
And yeah the Ghost Rider thing was weird, probably more likely they just said that but hadn't seriously considered him until the requests were building (he was in the top 5 requests across a number of polls I think).
Because that would make the already bought copy of Fate of Two Worlds obsolete?
DLC that changed X Factor, balance, roster, gameplay options etc would also make Vanilla obsolete though.
Isn't it obvious? He's still mad that Legends 3 got canned.
Everything is now clear.
-
I know about Frank, but didn't know about Nemesis.
They deconfirmed Nemesis as a playable character around the time of MvC3's reveal because they didn't want the game's rating to go higher than T but he ended up appearing in Hulk's ending. I just wonder what they did with him at first and if they toned him down or something.
As for the cameos, having an illustration in the background is hardly an indication that they were being worked on as a playable character or anything. Hell, Fing Fang Foom is in Arthur's ending, I doubt he's about to be revealed anytime soon.
Just felt like an odd coincidence.
Everything is now clear.
So, you never considered that as a reason for George's attitude? Plus when I was watching an UMvC3 stream, almost all the comments were angry Mega Man fans.
-
^Not really, I don't recall George ever talking about a MegaMan game before.
-
As for your last statement "You want to spend more money" for 12 new characters? Who said I even wanted all those characters? They are a mix bag. They should give me the choice and allow me to play against Ultimate people instead of saying "Thanks for purchasing our game, now fuck off and give us more money"
-
Each character would be at least 800 points right? Even 400 points means that it would cost 4800 points which translates to $60 anyway. Not to mention the new moves and balance changes and system upgrades etc.
A valid argument could be that Capcom charges too much for their DLC. (Even fans complain about it!)
Capcom is odd, they say they can't get Ghost Rider in the game and they can't get Phoneix Wright in another C vs game. Out of nowhere, they show up. Is Capcom putting a lack of effort or something?
-

They be trollin, that's all.

Now I don't even know what you are trying to argue. Games should all be free and they should have consulted you for the roster first?
They are new characters, so they are going to cost money, they aren't running a charity.
The charaters are a mix of who they thought would work in the game and fan demand.
If you don't like the new content, you don't have to buy it.
EDIT: I also agree with this article from SRK:
Lets be hypothetical for a moment;
Lets say Capcom decided to do DLC (which is obviously expected much sooner than 9 months down the road). They release 6 packs of 2-characters-each, not counting Jill/Shuma, for 10 dollars a pop. Not counting the 8 new stages they’d probably ask you to buy if you were interested (because those don’t affect gameplay), and assuming we get very minimal rebalance tweaks, you are already in the hole $60.
Now, in UMvC3, you get all that for $40, including the stages you might not have purchased, a gameplay rebalance so vast that making it DLC would have been difficult, and who knows what else they’ve packed in on that disc. Getting upset because they are releasing a ton of content (that we asked for) on a disc instead of via DLC (and at an extremely reasonable price) starts to seem silly when you do the math.
On top of this, tournament organizers have had problems in the past with keeping all of their setups up-to-date with DLC. While this is still a problem for Shuma Gorath and Jill, tournaments will have a much easier time with a new disc than they would have if all of this content was DLC.
Had all of this content been DLC, no one would have said “TOO SOON!”. But because we are getting what we wanted on a new disc just nine months down the road, people feel cheated somehow (even though, mathematically, this route saves the customer money).

-
I think there would be a fair few people, including myself, if they included as an endless amount of DLC. Both methods I do not consider good practice for the consumer. If they had made us wait a year after the original game was released, I would be more open about an upgraded version but as it stands, I cannot get behind that either.
Just because there is a worse method does not mean a bad method is still a bad method!
-
No, they shouldn't ask me about the rooster. Mademan, you are just trying to blindly defend Capcom. All I said is I rather pick and choose via DLC, like promised when MvC3 came out, instead of forcing me to buy a 40 dollar version of their game that only has like 20% new content.
-
I don't see how I could be 'blindly defending' Capcom when I gave arguments why I genuinely am happy with this each time.
The flaw with your 'DLC that I can pick and choose' approach is the rebalancing and system changes to the game, which look massive. Ignoring the visual changes like the HUD and options screens etc, fundamental mechanics like damage output and X Factor have been changed. When you change the mechanics of the game like this, the new characters are built around them, rebalance and new moves to existing characters (again something that can't just be DLC without huge issues/dividing the player base anyway) won't work between both versions.
This was really the only way it would work that I can think of to be honest.
-
Because they couldn't give out the rebalancing for free?
I mean, we here all think EA is shit, but at least they give out rooster updates, stat updates for free. We are living in a gaming world where we think we should pay for rebalancing? LOL
Oh, god...
-

Oh, god...
Rebalancing a competitive fighting game and changing it's mechanics is a sight more work than updating the rosters in FIFA.
Take a look at changes that have just been observed so far from some casual play, the game isn't even done yet and we haven't seen the full extent of new characters/modes/mechanic changes yet:
http://www.neoempire.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11445 (http://www.neoempire.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11445)
This is more major than just nerfing Sentinel's health (Which was a free update), there's obviously a lot more work going on behind the scenes of the game, which would be difficult to implement as DLC, and even more difficult to make it optional or segmented.
In any event, I'm just going to disagree with you on this occassion, don't buy it if you don't like it. To me it looks like it's what I've been wanting, so I'll gladly get it and enjoy the game.
-
So you are OK with paying for rebalancing?
Just asking.
-
If you don't like the new content, you don't have to buy it.
You do not understand.
The original version of this game will be largely useless once Ultimate is out. The community for the first release will completely die out and everyone will either move to the next game or just bail completely. To sum it up again, it was a $70 beta.
Look at it this way, once Ultimate is out will you ever go back to the original version? Of course you will not, why would you? In past cases like the Street Fighter Alpha series, or upgrades to III the games changed a huge amount, artisitcally, stylistically, musically... Some people prefer the earlier releases because they are so different. This is just the same stuff from the original game with some new content that will not work with the original version. There is no reason for Capcom to at least offer connectivity, I mean Sonic & Knuckles offered it in 1994, why is it Capcom cannot in do this in 2011?
don't buy it if you don't like it. To me it looks like it's what I've been wanting, so I'll gladly get it and enjoy the game.
Now you sound like Sharky. :'(
-
I don't understand how companies can have DLC like 'Undead Nightmare' and the GTA Episodes, yet Capcom can't have this as a big pack?
-
So you are OK with paying for rebalancing?
Just asking.
That seems like a loaded question. Rebalancing to what extent?
Two characters getting damage nerfs and one character getting a health buff? No.
38 characters getting new moves, altered properties for existing moves, overall mechanic changes to the system? Maybe.
All that plus new online modes, enhanced netcode, new backgrounds and minor aesthetic changes? Yes.
12 new charaters as well? Of course.
You do not understand.
The original version of this game will be largely useless once Ultimate is out. The community for the first release will completely die out and everyone will either move to the next game or just bail completely. To sum it up again, it was a $70 beta.
The 'community of the first game' were the people asking for new characters, rebalancing and new moves/system tweaks. So of course they are going to go onto the improved version which gives them what they ask for. They played the original for 8 months, which is a lot more than you can say for most retail games.
People who didn't want any of that stuff probably wouldn't be playing the game on a regular basis two months from release, let alone 8, so why do they care? They have their 38 characters, single player modes (Which were fleshed out nicely with the event mode and shadow battles) and multiplayer against like-minded people. They can still boot up Vanilla and play casually against friends or against the computer if they really want to. IN SHORT: IT'S NOT A BETA.
I'm guessing most people who are part of the 'community' and are still consistently playing the game come November will pay for all the new content that THEY ASKED FOR.
Look at it this way, once Ultimate is out will you ever go back to the original version? Of course you will not, why would you? Nobody plays SF2 World Warrior, Next to nobody plays SF Champions edition, Nobody plays Super Street Fighter 2: new Challengers, nobody plays Alpha 1, Nobody plays Street Fighter 3, Nobody plays Street Fighter 3: Second Impact, Nobody plays Capcom vs SNK 1, Nobody plays Darkstalkers 1 (or whatever else there is apart from Vampire Saviour).
People will always go with the newest and most improved version, one of the few cases this didn't work is in the Alpha Series where it's split between Alpha 2 and 3, and that's because 3 was a pretty big departure from 2 which split the fanbase. I THINK (not sure) at the time most people just went to 3 though.
As for Sonic & Knuckles bit, do you mean just including the new Characters in Vanilla as DLC? I could see that working, but then what about the balance changes and upgrades etc? The community wants all that, and it can't be implemented piece by piece, it would need to be a major (almost certainly paid) upgrade anyway, which would be the same thing right?
I can see your point about releasing the characters for Vanilla only though, but at the same time, that doesn't explain how they would include all the other stuff without releasing a new version or upgrading it via DLC (which would be the same thing).
Now you sound like Sharky. :'(
NO U
(Seriously though, expand on that, because I'm trying to be as reasonable as possible with my arguments, and I'm open to change my mind on this. I'm also willing to admit that I'm being slightly blinded by the fact that a lot of the characters appeal to me personally).
I don't understand how companies can have DLC like 'Undead Nightmare' and the GTA Episodes, yet Capcom can't have this as a big pack?
They could, but they put it on a disc instead?
I'm not sure what your point is here. If it was all on download only as one 'big pack' then its the same issue of splitting the game into Ultimate or Vanilla. The people who wanted the new content and rebalance would buy it, and anyone who didn't care would still play Vanilla.
If you guys have just been arguing about putting the 12 characters as DLC for Vanilla, in theory I agree with you, but I would personally rather get an updated game with all the other improvements instead. I'm also not sure how easy it would be to put these characters into vanilla since they were built around the new version, but I would have no aversion to it at all. In fact I would probably buy Ghost Rider and Frank West just because.
Anyway, I really hope i'm not coming off as a jerk or fanboyish, I genuinely am looking forward to this and don't really understand the anger about it, if I do offend or come off too strong I apologise.
EDIT: Hoooly shit, I need to stop overthinking this stuff, I just wrote a lot more than I thought I would.
-
So did Rockstar, they put Undead Nightmare on a disc too and also offered their consumers the DLC.
ITs called caring about your paying consumer.

So of course they are going to go onto the improved version which gives them what they ask for. They played the original for 8 months, which is a lot more than you can say for most retail games.
I recall the same thing happening to Phantasy Star Online. First game hit, I (and other PSO players) ate it up, played it to death for 8 months and around the halfway marker we started wanting more modes, areas, weapons, classes, leveling past 100. So 8 months after the release of the first game we got ver.2, which answered many of the fan requests, and a good majority of players picked it up. We really weren't too bothered, as we had a load of time to enjoy the first version and welcomed all the bonuses of the second version. In fact, I don't even recall being bitter thinking "SEGA does not care about their paying customers". I welcomed ver. 2. Plus, I believe version 2 was cheaper. So it was essentially like paying for an upgrade, a bit like a pre-DLC patch and expansion.
Like MvC3, it looks like ver.1 players can still enjoy the game and play online, while new players and those who want an upgrade can play the Ultimate version, no problem.
OH! And we are waaaay past due for an update to VF5! Final Showdown needs a console release...

There is a difference. I took Street Fighter II, Turbo and Super Street Fighter back in the day. I get it, they couldn't release the extra content any other way. Same with Phantasy Star Online Vol. 2.
But you know what ? Phantasy Star Online still played with the Vol.2 guys. All that original content in 1 was not obsolete. Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 will not play at all with the first title they just release, thus separating the fanbase.
I'm not against 'Game of the Year' releases, I'm against the fact that Capcom is not giving fans choices on how to purchase the extra content. Also hate the fact that they are selling 'fixes' to the game as new content. Its sad when games like Witcher 2, Portal 2 will both have free additional content in update fixes.... yet Capcom wants to force us to purchase another 40 dollar game to get their updates.... ?

So did Rockstar, they put Undead Nightmare on a disc too and also offered their consumers the DLC.
ITs called caring about your paying consumer.
explain how putting it on your HDD would solve any of the problems I outlined with compatibility already...
You would still split the fanbase into 'ultimate' and 'vanilla' versions.
I'm pretty sure you can't use the new weapons from Undead Nightmare in Vanilla Red Dead Redemption single player story.
EDIT: 12 new characters, new stages and complete re-balancing with system changes is hardly a 'fix', it's new content. Honest question, how much do you actually play fighting games? I'm not saying this as an insult or to be snarky, but I used to think there was nothing to these upgrades either until I started delving further into the games and realised how much work goes into this kinda thing. I can't help but think you and Sanus are really underestimating and under-selling this thing.

I guess I'm on a similar boat as MadeMan. I was a bit surprised when it was first revealed mostly because of how soon it was coming out even to the point where they already revealed the boxart and pre-order bonuses. Plus, the "accidental" leak of the rest of the roster added up to even more long months waiting for this. I'm a bit upset that they don't have a DLC option, but I mostly just want more content to play in MvC3 and I'd rather have all the content on one disc then get it via DLC and take up more HDD space.

You can't use the weapons in undead nightmare, but you can use the skins. It came with new modes, but at least they told their fanbase "Here, buy it online if you want"
What is wrong with giving fans choices? You are the one against me having a choice. You want me to rebuy the game all over again. That shit is not worth 40 fucking dollars.
Move on.

One thing I would like Capcom to change is the Online match setup. I still think out of all the fighters I've played for this console generation MK vs. DC had the best online system. It's easier to guess someone's skill level if you can see their win/loss (as well quitting) ratio before you even request a match. I've had so many satisfying matches online with MK vs. DC because I usually was playing with people who were about the same skill level as me. In Marvel vs. Capcom 3 there's no real way of knowing your opponent's skill level until you're already in the match. Losing is never fun, but I know that I lost because I made a big mistake or the person playing against me is better. However, I would at least like to have a chance of winning and 90% of my online experience with Marvel vs. Capcom 3 involved me getting trashed without even so much as touching the opposing player.
Anyways, it's my only real beef with the game and I hope Capcom does something to improve it for players like myself you play online more "casually".
I'm also hoping there is a bit more story to the arcade mode this time around. Capcom promised a robust story mode for Marvel vs. Capcom 3 but it really didn't turn out like they said it would. I shall remain hopeful. :D

Regardless of any of what has been said - Ultimate already has DLC announced for it. Some Ultimate edition. ???
A big issue Mang is not getting is that most people who bought the game did not play it nonstop for those 8 months. I know people who played it a couple weeks and bought the DLC, now they are pissed because if they waited a few more months they could have gotten a way better version with way more content and a cheaper price. There is no real positive for them, the community for the game will die out because people will move onto Ultimate or just not care at all. Their game is practically useless to them, no one will want to buy it off of them either.
On the comments about "No one plays this or that game", it is a different situation. Like I said, a lot of those are different stylistically. I can tell you numerous situations where people prefer concepts in Alpha 2 more than 3, or how some hate the music and new characters or abilities in Super Street Fighter II. Look how the newest Mortal Kombat is doing all of this for instance. It can be argued their prices are high, but I can assure you they will release a fully loaded boxed release in the future. The correct way.
This next comment is not pointing to anyone on this site, but from what I have seen. People defending this "Ultimate" release... They are the same kind of people who defend Sonic Team shit even though they know what they are getting themselves into and get mad at the ones who try and point out obvious problems.
-
Making DLC could even be cheaper, as buying it on Disc is buying another copy of the game. But with DLC, you are adding onto the game you own and you can't play it as a standalone.
-
I give up, I feel like I'm speaking a different language to George and Sanus. I don't think I can explain it any clearer, so lets just agree to disagree.

I actually agree this is stupid, thankfully the DLC for Ultimate sounds retarded and pointless, so nobody will care about it.

I know I should be ignoring this, but I feel I've given a sensible reason I don't hate this game for every argument you've given me. I also don't see how it's similar to Sonic Team's decisions either. To be blunt I think you are just trying to insult me.

Capcom has revealed what changes the existing characters from Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will have for the Ultimate version:
"Captain America will gain a double jump.
Viewtiful Joe can dodge incoming attacks with a new move.
X-23 will be able to cancel out other character's air moves with one of her own.
Arthur will have more health.
Iron Man will lose his double jump but gain an air dash to cancel his air moves.
Amaterasu will be able to change weapons in midair.
C. Viper will gain a new, never-before-seen move.
Wesker will speed up when his sunglasses are broken.
Wolverine has a new claw attack similar to Chun Li's lightning kicks.
Chris will be able to cancel out of normal moves that use his gun by using special moves.
She Hulk will gain a new special move.
Shuma Gorath can absorb an opponent's hyper combo gauge by using a standard throw.
Super Skrull's meteor smash can be done in midair.
Storm will gain a new special move.
Spencer will gain a new move that is alluded to in the game's latest trailer.
Zero will be able to cancel moves into his max buster.
Sentinel will have slightly less health.
Thor's midair throw command will have a larger range.
Taskmaster will gain a new special move.
Dante's devil trigger will allow him to triple jump and air dash twice.
Deadpool will be able to cancel out of special moves by warping.
Dormmamu will be able to execute his dark spell and revelation attacks in midair.
Trish's midair max voltage attack will let her follow up with an attack on a downed opponent.
Tron will have the invincibility parameters of her assist move reduced but will now be able to perform her servbot launch three times in a row.
Haggar's crouching hard attack will be able to knock people down.
Hulk will gain a new charge move.
Phoenix will have even less health.
Felicia will be able to perform her delta kick in midair.
Magneto will gain a new special move.
Modok will be able to cancel out of moves in mid-jump by dashing.
Morrigan will gain a new move that allows her to absorb some of an opponent's hyper combo gauge.
Ryu will be powered up some and play very differently, courtesy of new moves.
Hsienko will gain more items to throw during her anki hou attack.
Akuma will have less health.
Chun Li will gain a new move that will be a new version of her spinning bird kick. "
Most of these sound pretty good to me with the exception of Phoenix having even LESS health. The poor girl was already weak enough in that regard.

After recently playing some of Justice for All, I'm even more anxious to see Phoenix Wright in action. I'd assume that either him or Nemesis will be the TGS reveal for Capcom's side of the roster. As much as I think Nemesis would be more likely due to Biohazard's popularity in Japan, I wonder if they might want to show Phoenix Wright/Ryuichi Naruhado alongside (hopefully...) some new info on Professor Layton vs. Gyakuten Saiban (hey, it doesn't have an official English name yet.)

Here's how Nemesis and Doctor Strange are like:

Nemesis looks great. All we need now is for him to go "STARRSSS" in that gravely voice of his.
Doctor Strange looks equally as amazing. The only thing I don't like about him is his voice. Doesn't really fit his character in my opinion.
So glad both these characters are in the game though. :)

Since TGS hasn't ended, you're eventually going to show Phoenix, right Capcom? Right?...

I'm not buying it, because Mega Man isn't in it, and also because Capcom cancelled Megaman Universe and Megaman Legends 3 for no reason just months apart from each other.
-
I will be buying this because it the new characters look brilliant and I enjoyed MVC3. Also Frank West will be a drinking, vomiting, photo-taking and zombie summoning character, and that's pretty cool.

Because I'm 'Now' buying this? Baby, I decided I was going to buy this when I heard the initial rumours of 'Super Marvel vs Capcom 3' months ago.
