Don't ask for sources, take this as rumor, but believe me, it's true! :D
- Sega is developing a new Hatsune Miku game for the 3DS;
- Sega is developing a new Layton like game for the 3DS, announce coming in September, will be on TGS, but it's not a "mistery puzzle game"; it is a rythm action game;
- Shining Blade is supposed to be the official title for the next Shining series game. Developed for PSP, announce coming in October, release date stated to be next year February or March. Shining Hearts characters on Valkyria Chronicles system.
- Sega is developing Bayonetta 2 and also a CG movie for cinemas will be announced together;
- Sega will also announces Shining Hearts anime soon.
Plus, take a look on what the others companies are prepairing for us:
- Square Enix is developing The Warriors of Light 2 for the 3DS; they will also reveal in September that Dragon Quest 10 is actually a MMO.
- Capcom is developing Monster Hunter 3(tri) G for the 3DS. Announcing in September, playable at TGS.
- Sony will release PSVita this year in Japan, launching it with Monster Hunter 3rd P HD ver. It will be announced at TGS.
ps: YESS! My font color back!!:p

SEGA developing Bayonetta 2 or do you mean they are publishing it and Platinum Games are making it? With all due respect to SEGA, but their internal teams that can handle a game of Bayonetta 2's quality are all busy with other works (Unless AM2 magically finds an extra 100 or so employees) and I would not trust the remaining teams!
Although I am very interested in the CG movie thing but it is this that makes me question the validity of the claims, I know SEGA likes to take risks, but with a series that has only recently come out, why would SEGA take such a huge risk like that? If it was an animated series it's much more believable.

Since it's a Sega game, it does not really matters who is developing it, but I'm pretty sure it is Platinum Games developing. I'm not sure if it is a CG movie or a anime CG movie, but it's being made for cinemas/theaters, and you know that Sega has a big CG movie studio now. I believe on Bayonetta's potential, especially in Japan. It's also not clear if it is a full movie or a short one, like they did with Sonic last year (?) showing it exclusively on some theaters before a major movie, for free. :-\

Why would they outsource it to SEGA of all people? I also can't imagine a Layton rhythm game.
If the news about Bayonetta 2 is true, then I'm half-disappointed, half of me wanted more of Bayonetta's awesomness, but the other wanted a new IP in the vein of Okami from Kamiya, oh well, they have to build on their most successful game.
I thought an Anime will suit Bayonetta more than a CG movie.

Oh xD my bad then
-
The most interresting to me is that Dragon Quest will be an MMO...
-
Bayonetta has the potential to be a really huge character for SEGA, but they really need to establish a sequel sooner than later. I could not support a sequel more than I already do.
I also think Bayonetta has good potential for a CG or animated series, but a movie would be a bit of a strange choice I think.
I am very mixed on all of this 3DS support and another damn Shining cartoon, but it all seems extremely believable to me.
-
Why the hell Sanus has a sign fullfiled with goodness??
I WANT ONE NOW!!! >:(
Yeah, another cheap and shit Shining cartoon series. Let's see if Sega has learned something with the flops of Shining Wind and World Destruction.
-
I'm skeptical about this one, I could see Sega making a Bayonetta OVA or TV series as someone said, but theatrical release movie? Ehhhhhh... It might be possible, but it sounds like a miscommunication if that is true.
Would always love a sequel though.
-
I truly hope this next installment of the Shining series gets a Western release. It's been a while since we've had one. :(
-
This pretty much all sounds to good to be true.
Storm if you got this from 4Chan or any number Chan for that matter I'm not sure how much I can trust it.
-
everyone knows that storm gets all his info and pronz from 2chan.net

Sega did the same thing with SHENMUE, they released a CGI movie derived from the cut scenes for limited release in Japan just before the second game in the "defunct" series came out. BAYONETTA is more popular than SHENMUE ever was in Japan so its plausable. The CGI team if they work on Sega IP releated stuff are usually used for creating film ride/shows for the Joypolis park.

Something feels pretty coincidental that both 3DS and Vita are getting 3rd installments of a particular Monster Hunter series. Seems fairly plausible though.
-
Apart from some of the Sega stuff, it does sound plausable.
-
- Shining Blade is supposed to be the official title for the next Shining series game. Developed for PSP, announce coming in October, release date stated to be next year February or March. Shining Hearts characters on Valkyria Chronicles system.

Like i said i would cry if SH comes true(I doubt). Better get the tissues ready.
-
Oh!? Jesus Christ!?!? I have some new rumors... but nothing good here.
Looks like that:
- Bayonetta 2 got cancelled...
- alongside with the new Shining game using Valkyria Chronicles engine.
- Shining Blade could be a new weapon based fighting game developed by AM2;
- Sawada Tsuyoshi, the man behind the new Shining series is leaving Sega, again!
- Shimosato would assume the series then on.
- Nagoshi is also very near to announces that he is leaving Sega to be independet!!!! OMG!!
- Sega will announce the new "RYU GA GOTOKU STUDIO" very soon?
Now, an official note, August,31 is the day Sega will make theirs press event and announce their plans to the media.
WTF happened there so suddenly? Well, at least these are only rumors...
-
^^
i think most of those are BS
but i would like this to be true
- Shining Blade could be a new weapon based fighting game developed by AM2
not because i want a shining fighting game no but because i really want AM2 to work on another fighting game besides VF specially if it's a weapon based game
-
Wow, what a bunch of ever-changing rumours. ;) The gossip factory is working overtime it seems. :) Don't really want to give it a serious consideration as long as it's just rumoured, but it's nice to be aware of. Thx. BTW. There is also something about an upcoming announcement for the Valkyria series at andriasang...
-
I started reading this thread and was really happy for Bayonetta 2. Now I am sad :c
They will release a sequel eventually I think.
-
I seriously doubt Nagoshi would leave Sega, considering how well things are going for him there currently. He can't afford the stretch limo Hummer if he's out on his own. ;P
-
I'm feel mixed with these rumors :o
Some obviously do not make me pleasure, but as pointed out by Yu a weapon fighting game made in AM2 is certainly welcome by me, then imo the departure of Sawada can only be good for the Shining series, finally the "Yakuza Studio" may be a good idea, provided will also produce other franchises, like with BD, and maybe can also resume from the past some IP(Panzer Dragoon, JSR ... ;D).
Oh and about the event of 31 August I too have heard and obviously I'm hoping in something interesting that will be then at the TGS.
-
Oh and about the event of 31 August I too have heard and obviously I'm hoping in something interesting that will be then at the TGS.
is it going to be a Pre-TGS event or overall plan for the long term?
-

Oh, I have some sources to this one. Believe me, he is going to leave Sega SERIOUSLY!
My thoughts why he is leaving: he knows that Binary Domain will be a big flop and make a huge loss of money for Sega.
He has a live show at Nico nico douga; he said something there this week. Something like:
- I'm on this business for a long time, more than 20 years;
- It's an important decision I'll take.
From what I've heard in the past, Sega always wanted their employess to go independent after some time; they always gives them support to do that.
Well, Yu Suzuki and Naka Yuji were too many times bigger and famous than Nagoshi; look where they are now...
But I'm happy with Sawada's departure! HAHAHAHAHA! I HOPE THAT SO HARD!!! XDDDD Looks like the Valkyria Chronicles team has kicked him out!!! LOLOLOLOL!!! It has to be true! PLEASE!!! ;_;
-
So if Binary Domain is not a flop, then what? Usually a producer/director leaves after his creative vision is limited, this occured to Mizuguchi, Suzuki and Naka, so they all ended up leaving SEGA and may I add, out of them only Naka has gotten support from SEGA (Which is now no longer the case I would imagine) Yu Suzuki started up his own company.
Whilst on the other hand, Nagoshi is the head of SEGA's consumer team and the company is throwing heaps and heaps of money towards him to make stuff like Binary Domain. I could understand after the game is released and it happens to be a complete failure, but prior to the release of the game?
-

I can't see that happening. Platinum is busy making a new horror action game as well as BAYONETTA spin off so i can't see Sega cancelling a game that broke a million sales. Especially in this timeframe. Sega's been trying to get there DNA project off the ground for a while now and were seeing signs of that happening be it there first party consumer stuff that sega fans are accustomed to or supporting new dev studios for second party titles let alone reviving old ip and licenses like the EVANGLEON arcade project that just got revealed. Nagoshi leaving isn't impossible but him because of Binary Domain is nonsense. That's just anti Sega/Nagoshi talk right there. Sega's been grooming this guy as their next superstar for too long even at the expense of every other talented programmer/designer/producer or idea guy they have at the company so they really won't want to let him go.
-
Na storm... I don't believe a word of it.
Those are SOOO 2chan rumours.
-
Hmmm... I don't believe on the rumors about Bayonetta 2 getting canceled, too.
But Sawada leaving Sega is getting stronger, since a lot of people are talking about that. It's hard to believe, though, since he was very busy licensing Shining characters, making the new game, etc... it's just weird, but I expect to be true! XDD
I don't know anymore what Shining Blade is supposed to be... whatever it is, I don't care too much, since we already know that Camelot is not involved.
I believe that Nagoshi leaving Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku STUDIO are pretty true! I see no problem/issues on it too. Nagoshi is not my favorite Sega creator, he was never one of my favorites, I just like the way he produces his games. All of them have great contents and quality.
@ROJM: Bayonetta new title is not a sequel?? o.O; I hope they does something about the story. I hate the story of Bayonetta. It just does not makes sense... Kamiya should make something more serious.
-
I just do not see the reason for Nagoshi leaving SEGA all of a sudden, the only logical explaination would be, by having his own studio, he would if he made successful games raise his pay considerably. Outside of that, it makes more logical sense for him to stay at SEGA as he has more or less complete control of the output he has and a considerable budget behind each project he decides to undertake, as Yakuza and Binary Domain has showcased.
-
Of course he is leaving to build his own studio.
These guys are always fighting inside Sega (-_-; Can not they act just like... a family?
-
Na storm... I don't believe a word of it.
Those are SOOO 2chan rumours.
Yup, the live show at Nico nico douga in which Nagoshi himself will announce something important it's true, I signed up last night at this page:http://live.nicovideo.jp/watch/lv61583312 (http://live.nicovideo.jp/watch/lv61583312), then don't know what to announce Nagoshi.
But I'm happy with Sawada's departure! HAHAHAHAHA! I HOPE THAT SO HARD!!! XDDDD Looks like the Valkyria Chronicles team has kicked him out!!! LOLOLOLOL!!! It has to be true! PLEASE!!! ;_;
STORM, I'm completely with you ;)
-
I can't see that happening. Platinum is busy making a new horror action game as well as BAYONETTA spin off
Is this for certain or you're just speculating?
-
I would take alll of this with an extreme pinch of salt... maybe just a grain.
-
EVANGLEON arcade project that just got revealed
wtf
-
wtf
http://eva.sega.jp/ (http://eva.sega.jp/)
-
about Nagoshi been independent ..
i think it's unlikely at this point for him to leave sega, but since there is a rumor for a new ryu ga gotoku studio .. could it be just an independent studio lead by Nagoshi and owned by SEGA something like kojima production???
-
Can't we all use a little bit of logic here, people? Look at Sega's situation at the moment. look at the release dates of half the AAA games coming out. Most of them are coming within the two months in order to make a big splash at the same time before the end of financial date in March. Sega also isn't in shape to lose another big name who's behind one of their big franchises, they need him to create more and get to the level where Suzuki and Naka was IE developing IP franchises that succeeds in ALL markets. That's also the reason why the BAYONETTA rumour can't be true because it sold big in both markets. At this moment in time any game selling over a million is a good thing especially in the current financial market. I know most of you lot know this deep down but i wish gamers really follow the financial reports more closely and see what they are actually saying.
Is this for certain or you're just speculating?
I never speculate.
@ROJM: Bayonetta new title is not a sequel?? o.O; I hope they does something about the story. I hate the story of Bayonetta. It just does not makes sense... Kamiya should make something more serious.
Last i heard it was a project that Sega likes to do like they did with BLEACH, SHINING WORLD etc,you kinda confirmed there was more than just the sequel being made with you're initial post. I thought it was Kamiyama san talking pap like developers like to do when a game has been released but since then Sega may be backing BAYONETTA with a bit more this time round since more than one source have said the same thing. And Sega does have a history of doing that with follow ups to successful games. But we have to see if its true or not.
-
DQX just confirmed to be an MMO game for Wii/Wii U ... and it looks awful already gameplay wise
-
Yup and sega pulled off a masterful dirty move too. They released a new PSO2 video and screenshots right after it. A low blow but the comparison makes DQX look hilariously bad
-
^^
what video?
-
Well with Monster Hunter Tri G having just been announced I pretty much believe anything your source is saying lol
-
Wasn't it said that Bayonetta 2 and Shining Blade were cancelled? Although I guess it's safe to say Miku Hatsune 3DS and 4 Warriors of Light 2 for 3DS are official.
-
Miku for 3DS confirmed. However, how reliable was the source that Bayonetta 2 and Shining Blade were cancelled?
-
Miku for 3DS confirmed. However, how reliable was the source that Bayonetta 2 and Shining Blade were cancelled?
Not at all.

So lets see which ones have come true. I left the ones I don't know the answer to blank. Can someone fill me in?
(TRUE) - Sega is developing a new Hatsune Miku game for the 3DS;

Dragon Quest 10 IS an MMO. You really don't know yet?
And Warrior Light 2 I'm pretty sure, is actually the newly announced Braverly something something renamed.
-

I've never had an ounce of interest in either Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy.
-
What exactly could they do with a Bayonetta movie?

Well all the big websites are buzzing that something will be announced at TGS BAYONETTA related. This is the most intresting one.

Was there also any word on another batch of Dreamcast classics to be ported to XBLA and PSN?

-
Bayonetta 2 still on the plans. The previous rumors (about cancel, etc) are false.
Platinum is hiring people right now to make a new big action game, and they are using Bayonetta's image on the banners (on various major japanese game sites).
New Shining title was delayed due to 7TH Dragon 2. They can't announce it right now. Sadly, 7TH was delayed too, due to the new PSP Final Fantasy game. The nasty Square-Enix announced it to be released at the same day 7TH Dragon was previously announced... Sega immediately changed the release day.
Sawada leaving Sega is false. SHIT!!! -_- He stills there for our sadness...
There is another rumor, about "old Sega ips". Titles like "Shinobi 3D" would never been allowed in Japan; but it was an overseas project. They says that only Sega Europe or America are allowing this kind of project. Sega itself is not allowing people to "ressurrect" some old IPs. Nagoshi is one of them; he hates old Sega IPs that have failed in the past, like the ones for Dreamcast or big classics like the Mega-Drive ones (Streets of Rage?).
Now a special info for you! Did you guys seen the facebook page for PSO2 all in Japanese? Guess who ordened them to translate it to English?
Rieko Kodama herself, on her twitter!! She is not working on the title, but everyone respect her since she IS one of the original creators of the series. It was so cool XD
They are translating the whole game right now after Rieko's tweet. LOL!
-
Jesus Christ!! It's pratically impossible to read my messages on this new grey theme... -_-
It's all Shadi's fault!!!
-
Thanks for all the info STORM :D.

This explains everthing.
In my opinion, that is pretty stupid of SoJ. I get that they probably don't want to step on the toes of past devs, or create a followup that doesn't live up to an older titles. But if the proper team is behind a game, and they show respect to the franchise, they can produce a hit. Makes me think that Rise of Nightmares was intended to be a House of the Dead spin-off, but they didn't allow the team to use the name.
-
I don't really get why they don't take advantage of all those great IPs when everyone else is sequelizing the crap out of everything, and making tons of money in the process.
In the meantime, they're releasing crappy licensed titles to boost revenue.
-
I still call it a bit old-fashioned thinking. Alot of Japanese Companies (or in General) have embraced alot of IP's that weren't the most finacially successfull, but were still loved by a cult-following, and gained attention over the Years due that following, and made a game based on that for those people.
-
This explains everthing.
It really explains nothing, Storm is just posting the same kind of rumours like Nagoshi wanting to leave, so I would not trust a word of it. Nagoshi (And his team) always references loads of SEGA titles in the Yakuza series and they can range from Jet Set Radio, House of the Dead or Phantasy Star.
And the fact is, SEGA Japan were the ones who wanted SEGA America/Europe make certain titles, like Shinobi, for the Western markets and Westernize the titles. I'd also like to point out most of SEGA's classic titles did not do as well as most people seem to think they did.
I don't really get why they don't take advantage of all those great IPs when everyone else is sequelizing the crap out of everything, and making tons of money in the process.
In the meantime, they're releasing crappy licensed titles to boost revenue.
If this rumour is true and I for one second do not believe it is, then I do not know how you can blame SEGA Japan for crappy licensed titles as it would imply that they allow SEGA Europe/America the freedom to purchase those licenses. And SEGA of Japan have released quality licensed titles too.
And besides, the majority of SEGA's up and coming lineup are major sequels to their biggest franchises.
-
Nagoshi (And his team) always references loads of SEGA titles in the Yakuza series and they can range from Jet Set Radio, House of the Dead or Phantasy Star.
It's not a whole lot tough. Platinum's games have more references than Sega's own games.
-

Yakuza 4 alone had Border Break, Virtua Fighter, Outrun, Sonic, Monkey Ball, Sonic Rush Adventure, Phantasy Star Universe and Shining Force Cross and those are just off the top of my head... Only Bayonetta had SEGA references and that was Sonic, Hang-On, Afterburner and Space Harrier. Yakuza has double.
Other SEGA teams have references to other titles, like Valkyria Chronicles, Rise of Nightmare etc the only reason Bayonetta had so many references is because Kamiya was a big SEGA fan in his youth. But that was not my point, if Nagoshi disliked a bunch of SEGA teams/IPs, he would not allow any references to them in his series that he has control over, but he does.

True, but Sega referencing their own games isn't a common thing like it is now. Usually a sega cameo or reference would always be down to whether the team that was behind whatever sega game usually being involved with the game that they reference. That's the reason why you had JET SET RADIO reference in the first YAKUZA because the team behind the game was from Smilebit or the reason why SOA characters appeared in VALKYRIA CHRONICLES because they were both made by the same team. Nowadays its seems they can reference any game whether or not they were involved in the game they referenced. Before it was only Sonic that took the majority of references from games made by teams outside Sonic team.
I still call it a bit old-fashioned thinking. Alot of Japanese Companies (or in General) have embraced alot of IP's that weren't the most finacially successfull, but were still loved by a cult-following, and gained attention over the Years due that following, and made a game based on that for those people.
Is it? A lot of games don't get made due to political reasons within the company. Notice that most of the DC games have not had sequels outside the system probably because the DC was considered an abject failure despite it having great games. And the games that did manage to get sequels outside the DC also flopped.
The saturn brand of games are more likely to get sequels ahead of the DC brand of games, which they do in japan at least.
-
Shut up Mr. Aki! >:( This rumor is true ;p Sega's President is also the man behind these changes. I have told it before that he is not allowing any expensive projects which would not have 100% profits guarantee.
That's why Virtua Fighter 5 is coming as a download title. Yeah, I hate that thing! One of the greatest Sega IP coming on this shame format when Bandai Namco is releasing a lot of Tekken on "solid" format. Argh!!! Die NAMCO!! >_<
Sonic is not a reference on Bayonetta. Kamiya told he don't know Sonic too much, but if the users like that, it's OK for him. But "Eggman" and the halos were a mere coincidence. He knows Alex Kidd much more than Sonic.
Others Sega references on Bayonetta are: Zillion, all Sega hardwares, Fantasy Zone, Virtua Fighter, After Burner, Hang On... etc...
Whatever, this thing has nothing to do with this topic ;p
Now some extra-official info! I don't know if someone has posted it here already, but Virtua Fighter 5 FS is the 6th downloadable project title from that team, but... Sega has not yet revealed which one is the 5th one.
Sega's owner also said last week that they are pretending on buy or join some big "social games company". Sega already does games on Deena, Mobage, Gree, etc... but they are going to make a big step on this segment (that I hate too much!).
Ah! Phantasy Star Eternal Hunters was a big flop and will be closed very soon! HAHAHA! Hell yeah!! Phantasy Star is not my favorite series anymore ;p
Now my SEGA TOP 3 are:
- Virtua Fighter series
- Sonic series
- Phantasy Star series
-
Usually a sega cameo or reference would always be down to whether the team that was behind whatever sega game usually being involved with the game that they reference
Spot on , Though there were games like Segagaga and Shenmue that had various SEGA cameo's for various different SEGA IP made by different Teams
It really explains nothing, Storm is just posting the same kind of rumours like Nagoshi wanting to leave,
Yeah :). Too much reading of what certain Japanese editors have to say
-
I've plaeyd bayonetta but I never knew about all those many sega references. Some were obvious like the space harrier and hang on references, but others were really subtle it seems
Here an article I found after reading this thread called 30 'hidden' references in Bayonetta (http://www.gamesradar.com/30-hidden-references-in-bayonetta/). Pretty cool
-
Spot on , Though there were games like Segagaga and Shenmue that had various SEGA cameo's for various different SEGA IP made by different Teams
That's when it started to shift and which is why i never count Sonic as a bonifide cameo down to the fact that he was and still is the company mascot, so he would have appeared on lots of games if they wanted to use him. SEGAGAGA and SHENMUE started to do the multiple reference where before up to that point you usually had just one. Nowadays you can't have a sega game without having several references within them, which is fine by me but i'd like to see a bonifide sega crossover title using a wide selection of characters from various sega first, second and western teams.
Shut up Mr.
Cmon Storm, i think it was more than a coincidence with the sonic reference, Kamiya loves to wind people up.And VF5 on download makes economic sense even though i'd perfer hardcopy.

Maybe yes, maybe not. Kamiya said it was not proposital. On other hands, I think it was proposital, but Sega told him to not tell people about it. You know, Kamiya was not the only one person giving ideas to the game. Probably some designer wanted to make halos like Sonic rings, etc...
It's the same case with Zillion; everybody knows it is there, but nobody comments about it. Especially Sega! They NEVER comments about Zillion and don't allow people to do that there.
I'm fine with VF5, but again, pissed off about Tekken winning over my favorite series. -__-;

well Sega hardly officially comments on cameos and references that are in their games,i don't think any company does, as for ZILLION, well that technically belongs to Tatsunoko so that's probably a legal thing if they went out and said that its in the game when they probably didn't get permission to use it and could get done for it.
