Title: Sony has patients from 2009 that are basically Wii U
Post by: George on September 05, 2011, 07:38:20 am
If Sony wants to be like Apple and take Nintendo to court, it seems like they might be able to. Will they? Who knows:

What do you guys think? Especially since Apple seems to be going down this path with their gaming (iPad + Apple TV)

Do you mean patents?

I don't know why it's such a surprise if somebody rips you off you sue them.  It's not the same thing as suing for a patent you're not using.

During the first iPhone event, when it was announced, after he described the way the touch screen worked with two-finger gestures Jobs said "And we patented the hell out of it.". If you look at the Samsung Galaxy or the Galaxy tablet from a distance it looks like the same thing.

Apparently the Wii U began development in 2008.

There's emphasis on the screen/controller having a rear camera and using that to display the image, so I'm not seeing how this has much to do with Wii U.

Cool, though iPhone isn't the first phone to use 2 finger gestures and it isn't why Samsung is being sued. But that is cool.

George, you should read what I wrote instead of trying to sound cool and sarcastic.  I never said what the patents were for.  They patented the hell out of the iPhone in general.    Anyway, what phone are you trying to say that Apple copied?

Sony opened a hospital?

It copied some Samsung phone mainly. I forget which model it was but could find it if George doesn't bother.

Edit: I was wrong, LG, not Samsung. The LG Prada phone was announced and shown in 2006 versus iPhone's 2007 debut. It had a big focus on the touch screen just like the iPhone eventually would.

Thanks TY.  That phone interface and even the shape look similar.  I looked it up, though, and I can't find anything about multi-touch gestures, and it has 256 colors.  Still, it could be that Apple toom part of the design, or it could be a coincidence.

I think its stupid suing for phones looking the same when LG launched that phone before. The simple reason is that Android is now having a huge market share, the easiest thing to do is for Apple to try and play catch up and sue companies that use Android. Google created android for carriers to use for free, for their phones. If everyone is scared of using it, there is no market share.

^^^But when Apple plays copy cat...

As for this, the PSP already did the same thing as the Wii U, which is also patented. But that was for a handheld to be used with a TV. It is really rare to see a console manufacture sue. Though I think Sony's idea has to do with a 3D or Argument reality?  3D tablet to play on would be pretty cool, if they could fix the 'hold it this way to work' thing.

That artical sas they are playing catchup...  But they point out things like tabbed browsing and imply they copied it from Android?  How about they got the idea from their Mac version of Safari, or the mail improvements from Mail on Mac?  They are behind because they didn't have a new ios release in July like usual, because Verizon people just got their iPhone 4's, so they weren't about to screw them over and say, now a month later, here's the iPhone 5.

Anyway, I don't know much about droids, or galaxies, or any of that other stuff, so I can't argue how good it is.  I can say that google Android user base numbers are hugely inflated because they have an enormous return rate.  If I remember from a podcast, even you, George, returned a phone right after you got it, for whatever reason.  As to this Sony VS Nintendo thing, who knows...  The Wii U sounds like a mistake to me.
