Title: Favorite SEGA Fighting Game!
Post by: JohnOfRage on April 12, 2012, 06:30:14 am
This is yet aging another Favorite game topic  :P. I want to know what SEGA fighting games you like the most! Please tell me why this SEGA Fighting game is your favorite.

My favorite SEGA fighting game is "Sonic Fighters". The reason why I like this game is because I thought it was so bad that it was good  ;D. In the end, it was not that bad of a game.

Fighters F***ing Megamix. A true crazy Sega Classic, and you can play as the Hornet from Daytona! O and I was that guy who had to unlock the AM2 palm tree and Mr.Meat.

I'd have to go with Virtua Fighter. I have so much love for the series.

Unlike other fighting franchises, I find Virtua Fighter to be so pure. It's hard to explain. I guess it feels very stripped down to the bare essentials, but because of this it just feels so perfect. No insane story mode, no over the top kills (in fact, nobody dies), no super crazy combos. I find that even when there is a longer combo, it makes sense in terms of the whole combination of presses translated to the execution.

Even as the series progressed, it hasn't lots its way. Everything is still lean and simplistic, but everything has gained a greater depth. It really is what it says it is: a virtual fighter. Not something stupid like Legends Tournament Fighters Apocalypse.

So having said all that, I'd have to say my favorite SEGA fighting game is Virtua Fighter 2 for the Saturn, with Fighters Megamix as runner up. Megamix, mainly because it takes what I love about Fighting Vipers and Virtua Fighter and crams them into one game, plus tosses in a lot of AM2 fan service.

I can't really think of that many SEGA fighters.....

I guess, I'd have to go with Virtua Fighter 5. It's the one with El Blaze :D.

It's the Virtua Fighter series for me.  Like Barry said, there's something about the control scheme that makes perfect sense to me.  It's just intuitive.  I remember playing the original Virtua Fighter in the arcade and realizing that I could make sweeping motions with the joystick and the character would make some sort of sweeping move.  This was a big step beyond the kind of mechanical, abstracted button presses we'd seen in fighters before this.  The only game in the series I've never played is 4.

I'd like to give an honorable mention to Eternal Champions for the Genesis/Mega Drive.  Very creative character designs and backgrounds, and a solid fighter to boot.
