Any new showings that you guys are interested in?
Need For Speed: Most Wanted is a guaranteed must buy for me, but I've heard good things about that new game that Ubisoft showed (Watch Dogs).
There haven't been as many surprises as I was expecting though. Most announcements seem to be games we already knew about, or sequels that were pretty much guaranteed.

Platinum Games has a Wii U launch title? (http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/05/project-p-100-a-wii-u-launch-title-from-platinum-games/)
Viewtiful Joe visual style meets Pikmin? I dig.
-
Really wishing that site wasn't blocked here :(.
Any screens?
SEGA publishing it?
-
Nintendo is the publisher. Trailer is on the main SEGAbits news page.

Thanks sir :D.
I'll make sure to check it out when I get home.
-
Sure! 8)
So when do we start seeing videos from the floor?
-
Looking forward to that.
I don't think Square or SEGA have dedicated conferences, so I'm looking forward to when more information starts coming out from them.
I wish IGN's layout wasn't so cluttered. It's a huge pain to sort through news there. They were my go-to site for E3 news in 2003 :).
-
Yeah I hate the IGN layout. I just scroll through the latest news on Joystiq.

Pretty much this, unfortunately. So far from what I've seen of the conferences, Pikmin 3, The Last of Us, Watch Dogs, Rayman Legends, and I guess Assassin's Creed 3 looked pretty good.

Pleasant suprise:
New Portal DLC for the PS3 with move support :D.

I am looking forward to the new Assassins Creed 3 looks amazing. Just watched the new trailers, gota love the American Revolution setting.

Sadly, there's been nothing that's really blown my skirt up just yet (apart from maybe hearing that Zeno Clash is getting a new game), but there's been some cool stuff. I'll repost my post from the MS topic:
South Park: looks legitimately great, like a great big tribute to the show. It seems to have captured the humour and a lot of the iconic characters and feel (Jesus with a machine gun, Captain Chaos, City Wok guy..). I'm actually optimistic about this one.
Splinter Cell: Blacklist: Hnnngggghhh, not sold on this just yet. I was honeslty hoping for something more of a return to the classic stealth that made the series big in the first place. I really enjoyed Conviction as well, but ultimately I found the previous games to be better. The good thing is, that playthrough looked like a 'flawless' run through the level, probably on easy as well. I'm sure that you'll really need to depend on stealth more in a lot of sections. The mark and execute looks like it's really brain-dead (and I guess it is), but in Conviction you really needed it to survive the harder difficulties. It's not the instant win button either since you usually can't get everyone at once and you need to melee kill to get access to it. Overall I think it'll be good. I know i'll end up getting it anyway, SC hasn't dissapointed me yet no matter the direction it's taken.
Halo 4: Yep, it's Halo alright. Looks pretty good, but why do they have real life actors for the intro, that looked crap.
Gears of War: Judgement: Lucky guess on the 'Gears of War: Subtitle' call. Teaser trailers are fun, be interesting to see what this turns out like.
Nyko Androd Pad Thingies: Will be cool for emulators on your phone.
End of Nations: Free to play? Just don't make it 'Pay to win' (looking at you Age of Empires Online)
Zeno Clash 2: FUCK YES FUCK YES FUCK YES
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJk2qqXbPiM
Guacamelee! Metroid-vania game featuring a masked Mexican wrestler? Count me in. Too bad it's not out for aaages
http://au.ign.com/articles/2012/06/06/e3-2012-combat-exploration-and-hilarity-in-guacamelee
Samsung says 'Fuck Consoles' I found this particularly interesting, if not overly 'exciting' I wonder if this will become a new standard soonish?
http://au.ign.com/articles/2012/06/05/e3-2012-how-samsung-joined-the-console-wars
It's basically the on-Live service from years ago that i thought was brilliant, but done even better. This could be big if they do it right.
Beyond: Two Souls This trailer really impressed me. The game just looks really cool and I can't put my finger on exactly what I like about it so much. Colour me intersted. I think I'll have to go and play Heavy Rain now.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFxAJ3eaaC8&feature=related
Watch Dogseghhhhhh, not sure what to think of this one. Cool concept for sure, I've watched bits of the gameplay, but i'm just not overly intersted to the point where I really want to watch all the vids and trailers. I'll probably wait and check it out again closer to launch.
Resident Evil 6 Looks awesome to me, I can't wait.
A lot of the games from established franchises or developers I'm not really that excited about. I'm sure these will all be really good games, and i'm looking forward to them, but I'm just not surprised by them.
I'm hoping theres some more offbeat stuff that I'll stumble upon like Guacamolee and ZenoClash, stuff that I wasn't expecting and looks really different. Again, I'm not doing the 'man mainstream gaming sucks!' bit, but just that I already KNOW what Halo 4 is going to be, and AC3 is going to be etc. I want to see some more 'What the fuck is this?' games.
Anyway, tl:dr:
RE6, Beyond: Two Souls are the two big 'blockbuster' titles that really wowed me the most. Zeno Clash 2 was the biggest surprise. Guacamolee looks cool. Hope there's more games that i've missed so far.
-
Excited about Watch Dogs, Halo 4, Crysis 3..
That's pretty much it..
Very very weak E3 this year. I got way more excited with trailers that weren't on E3. The new Sega games, Doom 3 BFG, Skyrim Downguard...
EDIT:
NFS: Most Wanted is also good.
And I was very VERY impressed with the whole Ship Battle thing in Ass Cred 3. If it has a ship battling only mode I'll get it, I find the main point of the hole game extremely boring.
Also, remember when Splinter Cell was a stealth game?
-
Also, remember when Splinter Cell was a stealth game?
Very fondly...
Although while I still think the old games are the best, Conviction was pretty damn good as well. It's different, but I still enjoy it, so it's kind of cool to see a different take on Splinter Cell. It's kind of like comics, you can have Punisher in Marvel Universe, which I like, and then you have Punisher MAX Universe, which is different, but I also like.
Would be cool if one day they go back to the old-school stealth SC games, but if not I can always replay the originals again.
-
Could Sony's fighting mash up game copy Super Smash Bros anymore?
-
Could Sony's fighting mash up game copy Super Smash Bros anymore?
Yes, if it actually showed the ongoing score during the fights. I don't really know what they are going for with this aspect..
Also, slowmotion, bows and helicopters. everywhere.

It is good that you enjoy it, because I very much doubt Ubisoft will ever go back to doing stealth games. I have to say though, if the games were not called Splinter Cell, I would have no idea they were indeed Splinter Cell, such an iconic look and feel that they ditched.

Someone posted a Batman PS3 vs Wii U comparasion:
http://www.ntower.de/upload_bilder/BatmanVergleichBig.jpg
Nintendo fanboys: OMG u can't compare a launch game with a title that is on a 6 year old system! They have had 6 years to figure out how to make games look good.
Seriously, they don't fucking get it. WHAT IS THE POINT OF BUYING A WII U WHEN THE PS3/360 ALREADY DO WHAT THEY DO FOR LESS! HAVE MORE MULTIPMEDIA ... PS3 has bluray, Xbox has their online services...
What does Nintendo have? A Batman port that looks a little bit worse than the PS3 version that came out last year?
GG.
-
Nintendo fans would argue that a Wii U, unlike the PS3 and 360, has Nintendo exclusive titles. But the problems are:
(1) The first party Nintendo exclusives shown were pretty lame. I get that Pikmin has a fanbase, but really its not that great a looking game. At least, it's not a great game to show off a next gen console. You're just looking down at the ground, nothing big and cool and epic. Just the ground. I get too that you can find beauty in small things, a game doesn't NEED to be big and epic to look good. But as a release title, it's not a good showcase title.
Game & Wario looks fun, but it's about as graphically advanced as an XBLA title.
NSMBU looked like NSMBWii in HD. Not impressive in the slightest.
All three of these titles are sure to be fun games, but they fail in the graphics department which is what Wii U needs to push to make consumers aware that it is a step up from their current consoles. As it is, it's not.
(2) The ports, as George mentioned, are so GD OLD. Who wants them? Arkham City will be over a year old! Reggie claimed its a "new experience" with the GamePad, but fuck that. If I spent $60 on the game and beat it on the 360, there is zero reason to rebuy the game a year later. It's stupid. They needed to show an original third party "hardcore" title. And they did...
(3) ZombiU. Hmm. Looks interesting, but really. Zombie overkill anybody? It's a pretty saturated market, zombie games.
(4) The multimedia and entertainment aspects are nowhere near what 360 and PS3 have, and knowing Nintendo they will not be the focus. "But it's a gaming machine first and foremost!", I know it is. But it needs to push these other aspects if it wants to compete.
(5) GamePad battery life is shit. One of the selling points, playing the Wii U while somebody else is using the tv, is stupid. If I'm not allowed to use the TV (what am I, a child?) then I do something else. This aspect will not appeal to the hardcore, because if they are hardcore enough, they'll have total control over their television. It's really a selling point for babies.
-
It's fucking awesome that I can continue my "hardcore" gaming session laying in my bed with the controller screen thing. But 2 hour-long battery? Are they serious? I've seen soccer matches that last longer.
Also, that comparison seems like BS. It may very well be made up by Sony fanboys comparing the game running on ps3 with some low-detail running PC, just to make the WiiU look bad.
But if it proves to be the truth, then I will what so hard I what what.
-

This is pretty much the major problem with the first party lineup, really.
(2) The ports, as George mentioned, are so GD OLD.
Except only 3 of the 3rd party multiplats coming out for Wii U are games that will have been at least 6 months or more old if that's what you're talking about.

Agreed I would also love to play from bed, but 2 hours is rough. Let's hope we can plug it into a wall or some shit.
@thread, me and a ex-SegaFanatic writer did a E3 podcast for anybody who cares: pt. 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2_1PHEIPts&feature=plcp) and pt. 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTcLsVxolgQ&feature=plcp)

Like I noted in the latest podcast, Wii U really needed an impressive Mario/Zelda/Star Fox/Metroid game, either a real up and coming game or a tech demo, that showed off the graphical power of the machine (whatever it is).
Like, Just Cause 2, a game from 2010 blew me away and still looks amazing in 2012:

Just the sheer epic scale of the world you run around in is so god damn awesome. Compare that to what we saw at the Wii U show, which was just so small, simple and childish by comparison. But imagine if we saw something like a fully 3D Mario game of Mario on a mountaintop looking off at a massive Mushroom Kingdom map. Or an expansion of that Zelda tech demo, which was oddly absent from this year's show. Even if it was the same demo as last year, it would remind consumers that the Wii U is capable of some impressive stuff.
-
Why would we even imagine Mario like that? When has Nintendo ever made grand and epic titles with exception of Zelda and perhaps Metroid. Nintendo has always kept their games simple and it's been a trademark of there's since their entry into video games. Graphical showcasing is not Nintendo's forte and never will be.
Besides from their standpoint they showed off Mario, the best selling single format platformer, racer* party and one of the major reasons why Nintendo has the best selling fighting* game series in the industry and probably thought let's call it a day there.
*Does not mean they are not party games still...
I agree their show was a disappointment, but showing off graphical horsepower is not the reason why. They just lacked many new games.
-
I don't mean a Mario like that, with that sort of real world look, I mean something big looking. Like Super Mario Galaxy, but in HD and next gen looking. The games on show just felt so cramped and small.
-
MS could have fixed their show up easy. Announce Halo 1 and 2 PC for digital distribution FINALLY, been fucking years you assholes, AND! Announce that they will be releasing more digital PC content on Steam instead that GFWL trash.
Boom, PC gamers would have loved their show.

Nintendo is like the shitty boyfriend that girl that dumped you got, it pisses you off because no matter how hard you try to make that girl happy in the end she left you for some regular loser that doesn't put effort at shit he does. But when he does do something right, something small, she brags about how much of a sweet heart he is.
This is Nintendo, people always have excuses... "But they don't do that sort of game..." come on, that shit is a bullshit excuse. They don't do epic scale games? Zelda Ocarina of Time was pretty epic in size when it came out.
Lets just stop defending their laziness.

-
I agree with Aki, and OOT is the exception not the rule. Outside the Zelda franchise they never make epics, but on the same token I agree that a new tech demo would have been nice.
-

And these small looking titles have served Nintendo well, New Super Mario Bros Wii has done 3 million plus in Japan, 4 million plus in the US and globally at 25 million. From Nintendo's and a business standpoint, having a sequel to this title (And let us not forget the DS version which has sold an even higher amount) prepared for launch would be sound, a lot more sound than say Super Mario Galaxy 3. Even if you combined the sales of the two Super Mario Galaxy titles, they would not match the sales of New Super Mario Bros Wii.
Even look at say, Sonic Colours or Sonic Generations vs Donkey Kong Country Returns. Both are epic and look great and are large scale adventures with some extremely large stages but Donkey Kong Country Returns has outsold both combined, you could throw in the latest Ratchet & Clank and the fairly simple and small title has still won out.
That is not to say I liked what Nintendo showed off, but from a business standpoint, it would be more logical to have New Super Bros than anything else. Even if I do dislike that series personally, it is not what gamers have shown with their wallet.

I did note that outside of Zelda (And Metroid) Nintendo just do not do epic scale games, you point out Ocarina of Time, but outside of the next 4 Zelda games (And possibly 3 Metroid titles) what other titles have they done that have felt epic in scale? None. Not to mention that the previous Zelda only came out 7 months ago, their recent schedule for mainline Zelda games can take upto 4 - 5 years.
And I would not say the willingness to not develop large scale adventure titles is a sign of laziness, the fact they had almost no games as I pointed out, is however.
But then Nintendo has also always been conservative on their financing of games, low risk, high returns.
-
Well, have fun with that Nintendo. I'm content with PS3/Xbox.

Its funny watching Nintendo fans talk about how PS3/360 are all the same games, when Nintendo literally shows off sequels to last gen games that look the same graphically. They eat it up like shit soup.
-
Well, have fun with that Nintendo. I'm content with PS3/Xbox.
As am I and as I was with my Playstation 3 even when I got the Wii (Which I got more for the family, rather than my own personal playing desire) Nintendo's titles just do not appeal to me outside of a few exceptions such as Metroid (Which is now a terrible horrible mess of a series thanks to Other M and I fear for anything else they have planned) and Wario (Which I would not expect a sequel to sadly) so I do not expect to be dropping any money towards a Wii U unless SEGA has some exclusives planned that might make me bite (And even then, not at the price Nintendo will be demanding)
-
I will probably end up buying Wii U the same way as I did the Wii: Four years from now used. Then six months later it'll stop being supported. lol
-
To be fair Pikmin 3 is doing things that the Gamecube wouldn't be able to do, or the Wii, so in that regard it is a step up for Nintendo. I think what's most insulting about George's comparison isn't that it looks worse than Beyond, it's ok to look worse, what's insulting is that the game itself isn't in 1080P and it runs at 30 frames per second.
If it isn't gonna push hardware, it needs to have 60 FPS, run in 1080P and have anti-aliasing turned on. Unless the system is really incapable of even that much.
Out of the next gen systems I am hands down most interested in Nintendo's though, I get my western fix and graphics fix on PC and since Sega is increasingly focusing on my platform of choice (PC) I see no reason to go elsewhere except for exclusives, and Nintendo has my favorite exclusives of the the three first parties. With that being said, I don't intend to buy any consoles next gen, I think 3DS and PC will continue to suit me fine, as it is I have a tough time keeping up with just these 2 platforms.
-
I didn't post a video because a screen is enough. Sorry if you are launching a console, you have to promise some spectacular titles not possible on current gen systems.

Shuhei Yoshida's pretty cool. He's been on IGN's Playstation podcast a few times and he gives some pretty frank and honest responses to all the questions they toss at him.

This follow up statement by him in regards to Wii U seems pretty fair:
