SEGA has announced that they're working on a 3D version of Space Harrier for the 3DS. No word on release date yet, but we do know that the game will feature widescreen. This will most likely be a 3DS eShop title. Also, SEGA has confirmed that they're looking to give other classic titles this type of 3D update.

Just saw the news on Spong. Awesome stuff! News'd it moments ago. This was on my SEGA wish list, and I hope more are on the way. After Burner would make for a great 3D rerelease.

It's interesting that they seem to have reframed the image for the widescreen aspect ratio. Hopefully that works all right, but I seem to remember sometimes you can see enemies off in the distance appear pretty near the top of the screen.
It's exciting news... for a long time I've hoped for a proper collection of all of the superscaler classic arcade games, and hopefully this is the beginning of something like that.

Where/when did you last use it?

it does make difference to play it on 3ds.

The old school Sega fanboy in me is going to feel dirty playing a classic like Space Harrier on a 3DS. Sorry, I'm old and remember the bit wars with fondness.
