I think I've said I love Intelligent Syetems in another thread, but I put that down to loving the Paper Mario series (the only genre I can tolerate with Mario in it!), but I also loved playing WarioWare on the Gamecube and interested in playing a few Fire Emblem/Advance War games (I have Radient Dawn and Dual Strike...one of them is annoying me with it's mission....I don't know how to win the mission in DS). They also made the best Metroid game of the 2D series in Super Metroid (I like Fusion much more though...)
I also like them since they seem to have their own identity within Nintendo which is rare (R&Dx, they usually all share personnel to me).
It's a shame they stick to FE/AW/WW and PM though (with Puzzle League/Panel De Pon on the side), since I think they have the potential to do other interesting franchises (like Pushmo!).
I also like Japan Studio on Sony's side....but I have only beat Gravity Rush really (good game, but really really shallow on content), but have played ICO and loved it. I need to play Shadow of the Colossus too.
How about you guys?

the sonic cd way:
PAST
I think you deserve to be answered. as far as thinking of non sega developers we all have to acknowledge that sega when it had consoles had plenty non sega developers making games for sega. back in the days u would play HOOK fo r example and that game was actually sonys. but ot was on the genesis.
FUTURE
even tho i am a huge billyboy of Sega. i have to admit i like some games that are of non sega developers. Like mass effect trilogy. and all the prince of persias except forgotten sands.
all assassins creed. ICO and shadow of the colossus actually remind me a lot of sega. ICO and colossus all together is actually a panzer dragoon saga vibe.
but when it comes down to it im with sega. u will find me pirate non sega games. But never ever will i pirate a sega game. ok unless it be saturn cause those games are not to get no mo.
playing other games doesnt mean u compromise the brotherhood.
but if u start being a bitch saying that u dont play sega no more. this is where u become sort of a judas.
and we dont like judas cause compromised the brotherhood and betrayed jesus peace be upon him.
blablabla
to get back ontopic
play games as much as u like
but there is a weard feeling when i touch a nintendo. so i never play it. it doesnt give good feeling
and it gives a weard feeling playing ps1 games because of the trauma for my beloved saturn.
but when u talk about non sega developers games?
Why not:)

I love SNK. I love Capcom. I love some Namco games, like Rolling Thunder 2, Soul Calibur series, Naruto Storm Series and i like old school Konami a lot. I am a big MK fan, i really looking forward to the DC FG game by Ed Boon.
-
Platinum Games (Bayonetta, Vanquish)
Ensemble Studios (RIP) (Age of Empires 1, 2 and 3)
SNK (All their fighting games, Metal Slug)
Double Fine (Brutal Legend, Psychonauts)
-
Back before they were gobbled up by Sony, Psygnosis (sp?) had a few gems that were technical marvels and quite fun to play. Other studios included Koei (I adored the amazing Japanese war simulations on the old NES) and Hudson.
Last but not least, Nihon Falcom... Famous for the Ys series of games over the years and blew me away when I first invested in the beast, the original TurboGrafx CD. Sure the Sega consoles did get a little Ys love but I'm happy that these games have been re imagined on the PSP/Vita. I dream of a native Ys title for that handheld monster.
Others I still am fond of are...
EA as a publisher... (flame suit is on but how can anyone hate the Mass Effect series and Need For Speed?)
Developers alone...
ADK - developed almost exclusively for the Neo Geo and the wonder (and hard as fuck) launch title Magician Lord and other great games on the platform.
Chair - Known for the Infinity Blade series on iOS.
TellTale Games - Makers of the Strongbad series and the crown jewel, with a full cooperative effort from Universal Studios no less, Back to The Future series. If you haven't tried the demo, give it a shot if you love the movies, every bit of the game is sewn together with incredible attention to detail. Even the original soundtrack.
Sony Santa Monica - Without them how else could I splatter blood with a grin in God of War
Epic Games - Gears of War and its sequels... 'nuff said there.
Bungie - Originally a Mac developer only who brought us Halo. Without the bold move of forking over a shitload of money, the FPS genre wouldn't be much of a success on consoles. Halo was actually planned to be a Macintosh exclusive and was shown shown in early form at a Macworld keynote with Steve Jobs. The Mac did get Halo years later but no sequels to the first.
Bethesda - Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3... How do I love thee? :o
-
^Telltale are a great one, Walking Dead was amazing.
Also I would say Obsidian too come to think of it. They did Fallout New Vegas and Alpha Protocol right? I think they are mostly made up for former Black Isle guys too, who did Fallout 1 and 2 which are my favourite WRPGs.
-
Platinum - for obvious reasons.
Majesco - for Phantom Dust, I'll always love you forever for this brilliant, lost game.
-
I like Clover Studios also, but they're pretty much Platinum Games which is why I never mentioned them (since they made SEGA games ;)).
I still need to play God Hand and Okami.
-
List is small, but I do fanboy over other developers.
Bungie: Anything they do, I know it'll be good. After Halo, Bungie has earned all my love and respect. Best community support ever, and great studios and games.
Naughty Dog: Have they ever made a bad game? Come on, Naught Dog are top tier.
Bethesda: Skyrim is one of the best RPGs ever made.
-
EA Sports
-
Non-SEGA:
Ninja Theory, Rockstar, Sandlot(developers of Bikini Samurai Squad and Earth Defense Force 2017), Tri-Ace, Team Symphonia (Tales of Vesperia), Remedy and Capcom pre-Resident Evil 5.

I loved Psygnosis games like Agony and Shadow of the Beast trilogy for thr Amiga 500.

Early on they had made a lot of games for the Genesis with EA as the publisher. Shadow Of the Beast being one of them. Granted it was far better on the Amiga and imagine just as insanely hard.
I had to cut my non Sega developer list short as it was getting rather long winded.
When I think of developers long gone, I would have loved to see what Factor 5 (also a Amiga developer) that always had a reputation for pushing the limits of Nintendo consoles for ages from the Super NES to the GameCube. Imagine how Star Wars arcade would have been pushed further on the Saturn as opposed to the N64.
While Rogue Squadron was amazing to see in action on the N64 with the expansion pak installed, how awesome would have looked and played on the Saturn or even better, the Dreamcast.

Activision
Konami

Namco
Square Enix
Take-Two Interactive
Warner Bros. Interactive

I think after beating Advance Wars and Fire Emblem, I think Intelligent Systems is Nintendo's best development team.
Even with Miyamoto's intervening of Sticker Star, I still liked the game.
They also made WarioWare I think, so yeah...
-
Non Sega companies are few and little but let me think...
Platinum Games - Bayonetta, Vanquish, MGR, Anarchy Reigns/Madworld
Treasure - Guardian Heroes, Dynamite Headdy, Ikaruga, Alien Soldier
Valve - Portal
Atlus - SMT Games including Persona
From Software - Dark Souls, Otogi series
-
Atlus - SMT Games including Persona
Ugh, ATLUS treat Europeans like shit. I bought Trauma Centre once and I couldn't get past one part on the second chapter...turns out that it was a bug that wasn't fixed.
That put me off of Atlus, I have Persona 4 but not played it much.

Props for remembering Otogi on the old Xbox. It was such a beautiful game that was quickly forgotten far too easily. I loved Japanese support on the old monster, as the Nvidia GPU (custom GeForce 3 design) had made that game into a visual candy land! I long for a HD remake but it never got the popularity or love that it should have gotten.
If I haven't mentioned a existing developer that really deserves credit for being plain awesome, it was Zyrinx. Head to head against Treasure, it would be hard to choose a winner for special effects coding on the Genesis/Mega Drive

Why are people mentioning EA? That company just takes over every other third party company that it can find, then they make terrible games with it.
-
Platinum Games - Possibly my favorite developer right now. Love the ridiculousness of their games.
Nintendo - I know they have multiple developers there, but most of them are great enough that they may as well be under the same lable. Mario Galaxy 2 is possibly my favorite platformer of all time.
Criterion Games - Developer of the Burnout series. Sadly because of EA being EA, they're now mostly working on new Need for Speed games. And while their NFS games are still really good and are actually a lot like their Burnout games (Most Wanted especially), it feels like they're also limited by the brand. Just compare Burnout Paradise and NFS: Most Wanted, you can see that they could go a lot more crazy with Paradise. Regardless, they're still a great developer and a bright spot in EA's list of developers, at least until EA fucks them over.
Double Fine Productions - Though the gameplay in their games can be lacking, they're some of the best when it comes to style, character and humor. I do kinda wish they'd make more big retail games, but their smaller games are still great. The only game by them that I found disappointing was The Cave, which was just tedious to get through and pretty hit or miss when it came to the humor.
Telltale Games - Yup, Walking Dead is great, but I honestly enjoyed some of the other episodic games before it more. Specifically Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse. Their Sam & Max games are pretty good in general, besides the first couple of episodes of the first season. Their Monkey Island, Strong Bad, Puzzle Agent and Wallace & Gromit games are great as well. The Back to the Future and Jurassic Park games were disappointing though, especially the latter.
Capcom - When they aren't being shitty. Put them here mostly because of Mega Man and Ace Attorney.
Naughty Dog - I love Crash Bandicoot, the first Jak & Daxter and the Uncharted games. The Last of Us also looks incredible. I consider Jak 2 to be one of the worst sequels ever though, and I haven't played Jak 3 nor Jak X.
Valve - They made Half-Life 2, Portal 1 & 2, Team Fortress 2 and Left 4 Dead 1 & 2. Enough said.
Bizarre Creations - RIP. I consider Blur to be the best kart racer out there, along with Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. Makes sense that Transformed that directed by the lead designer of Blur :P. Also PGR and Geometry Wars.

I mentioned EA Sports. They are a group of studios inside EA that make high-profile AAA sports games. I don't care about anything else. Other EA games I enjoy are from bought devs (Bioware, Criterion, etc)

I respect nintendo a lot. They treat their IP's with a lot of care and not as cash ins. Also they don't let themselves be intimidated by the dumb mass media. Glad they never got on the shooter bandwagon. Even the shooter they have (MEtroid prime) doesnt play like a traditional shooter.

Capcom Production House 4/Clover/Platinum
Nintendo
will always be my faves

Nintendo - I know they have multiple developers there, but most of them are great enough that they may as well be under the same lable. Mario Galaxy 2 is possibly my favorite platformer of all time.
That is true, but I think of Intelligent Systems is one of Nintendo's more niche catering developers. I think of them like SEGA's AM2 in some ways (although AM2 isn't my favourite SEGA Dev team, that honour goes to Overworks) as they always have games that aren't traditional Nintendo, but the franchises themselves are mature enough to know what to expect from them.
WarioWare on the GC, Fire Emblem, Advance Wars, Super Metroid (when they were co-operating with SPD?) as well as Paper Mario have convinced me that IS is a developer Nintendo needs to hang onto if they have any chance of appealing to the Hardcore Market.
I do like Nintendo's other developers (bar Brownie Brown, who either make sub-par games or games not released in the West (Europe) such as Earthbound), but I think IS is pretty much the only Nintendo team that makes games almost to SEGA's riskier qualities (not quite there of course since IS relies on FE/Paper Mario far too much).
Regarding EA, I really don't understand why they can't give their developers a break when it comes to their lesser known franchises. Dead Space 3 was changed drastically to make more money (but they were okay with DS1&2 sales?). They effectively annoyed the Mass Effect fanbase, killed off Dragon Age and any potential for Mirrors Edge 2 (I found it way too hard). I wish EA were put in their place because they have been diabolical lately.

I don't mean to say Nintendo is a bad developer, but their countless spinoffs amount to cashins. Sure they are usually good, but it is what it is, no?

I don't see a problem with cash-in spin-offs if they're made well. It's still better than what other companies do with their spin-off games. Specifically SEGA and Sonic spin-offs that are usually at best mediocre. (A couple of exceptions of course being the All-Stars Racing games and the gift from god that is Sonic R)

I was not saying it is a bad thing, but Nintendo is as guilty of it as anyone else for spinoffs, they do have a higher standard of quality as you mentioned. I just do not believe this notion Nintendo is holier then thou, they do a lot of stuff other publishers are attacked for (Lack of new IPs, countless spinoffs, price fixing etc) only they're games are very well made so often it's overlooked.
-
I really used to like Capcom, but now they suck.

Exactly, Nintendo get away with quite a bit because of the fanbase.
I had a scenario where I recommended a Fire Emblem nut Valkyria Chronicles but they held off of it...but when a fellow FE nut recommends another SRPG...oh yeah, they jump straight on it!
It irks me when you show them a game that is similar to a Nintendo franchise but they won't jump on it as it's either NOT on a Nintendo console OR it's another Nintendo game that plays similar...
In comparison to this, I tried FE out myself and I like it overall...but my god man...I still think VC and FE offer unique things in a SRPG...why don't people try both out instead of hesitating because it's SEGA or Konami (as an example), but it's okay if it's from Square or Nintendo?
-
Nintendo sucks. The only still worthwhile franchise is Metroid (maybe Pikmin too), and they mishandled it (them) badly. Nobody takes Nintendo seriously anymore.
Go on and bash me for liking EA and not Nintendo. EA makes appealing games, Nintendo doesn't. They only reason people still like Nintendo is because (A) they never played games before and Nintendo games are first-timers friendly or (B) they played Nintendo as kids.
The later is the main reason all of us are Sega fans as well. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but it also doesn't mean all Nintendo shits out is gold. It is the number 1 reason most Nintendo games are overrated on the gaming press as well.
-

Well that's basically what I meant. Yes not all of the spinoffs are on par with their main games, but they aren't bad most of the time and do what they're meant to do, which is being fun. I wasn't treating nintendo as some holy grail, no company can be perfect for such a long time.
I think we can both agree however that if a new main game in an existing or new IP gets anounced, we know almost guaranteed it's gonna be a good game. And that is what I respect. Why I put emphasis on existing IP's is because i've seen various companies leading their IP's astray from their essence and being careless with it. Nintendo gets this. Metroid other m is the only mistake I can think of.
@Crackdude Well I am personally SEGA fan because they make great games within their own distinct identity and phylosiphy. I only started apreciating Nintendo recently so those 2 reasons don't apply to me at all.

EA does good at times, but is very shit about 50%. I like Mirror's Edge and a few other games. The problem with EA is they get too greedy. Online passes, micro transactions. As a company they are dicks, they happen to publish some great games though.
I think Kingdom of Amalur is a totally underrated game this generation.

Kingdoms of Amalur is as much an EA game as Portal 2 is. As in: they published the console version. The developer self-published the game on Steam: http://store.steampowered.com/app/102500/

That is true, just giving them credits as a publisher, not developer.
Anyway, an hour into FarCry 3. Yep, they know how to make a crack addicted game.

Speaking of Far Cry 3, Blood Dragon looks awesome and I wish it was a full retail game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dofacvjRkc

Yeah, been looking at that. I wish it was a full game too. I wonder how long the game will be.
