Dear Sega i have an idea since there have been so many discussions about every console u ever made.
no i do not as a new console cause there is allready a topic for that. But this is something really special. and since i know that u have all the development kits still in stash i request something that will make u revolutionary.
the idea of waking up every console u ever made would bring such a commotion and people would wait in lines to get what they want.
the accomplishment of bringing the outmost best of every console you ever made just IMAGINE that you would bring for every console just one game that is licensed by you sega. for every console u ever made an fficial game that is really brought into the best effort of the previous consoles
let me suggest this 5 games wake up project. the pier solaar game brought to genesis was a good attempt.
but i know that u can give better so here goes
1. sega master system
-bring one game so good that it actually looks like a 16bit game. a deep rpg game with at least 70 hours gameplay and an animated movies in between and in the intro. bring the best out of the midi
2.genesis
-bring a game out much more superior then the virtua racing engine. and basically make a game like crusader centy so beautifull with 3d inbetween.
3. saturn
THIS IS THE SPECIAL
bring out panzer dragoon saga 2 and make it look so good that it actually looks like the dc almost. also try to surpass the quality ever made for any saturn game. and with this game bring a 64bit cartridge with it that enables a tremendous quality ever give to a sega saturn. let this game have 12 discs and also that the gameplay is 300 hours and 500 hours side quests included.
4.
the DC
bring back the phantasy star online blue burst engine style
and call this phantasy star . phantasy star 5. you can choose wether this game be 2d or 3d. it dont have to be necessary online. what is necessary tho that it is better then phantasy star 4.
,if u are affraid bringing out this phantasy star on dc due to the piracy. then encrypt it so badly.
i know u can
5.?
u do what u pls
at all times let these games come out in all parts of the world. i await ur reply
to segabits: do u see skill in this idea. and wouldnt u want to see the uttest quality of these consoles?
pls tell me ur feedback and how u want it to be
-
i don't even
-
to segabits: do u see skill in this idea.
On behalf of Segabits as a collective whole: No, no we do not.
-
On behalf of Segabits as a collective whole: No, no we do not.
come up with something then.
my highlight would be the saturn game.
the saturn never got the best of it
-
i don't even
ok allright. then what is it that you want. i mean seriously as a segaman. if u claim so?
what is it that u want frm it. u aint sega for nothing obviously. u must v liked the games or the consoles.
so if u dont even as u say. then what is it that you want
i try with all my might to brainstorm possibilities. probably this is one of the lessest ideas. i still aim for a new sega console.
but also this is an idea. this wake up project is not an aim to success. just a temperoraly boost and relive some nostalgic consoles. many peeps bought pier solar. they just made the game and sold it. sega can do such a stunt for one time calling it the wake up project.
why is it that u dont even.
but you dont EVEN do anything. arent u amongst those that are waiting for a good game to show u and then shout hell yeah thats a good game. and then when it isnt u just basically sprout that sega is shit.
i dont wanna sound like i have prejudice.
so if all this text seems wrong. or u think i blame u then tell me why you dont even
ill be enlightened hopefully

Okay here's my idea: Sega should make sequels to all their three most loved games that fans want more of;
1) Shenmue
2) Skies of Arcadia
3) Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg
Starting with least popular to most popular they should make a sliding scale of production quantities, but they should make LESS the more popular it is. This way they can create mad hype and demand for the games.
Billy Hatcher should have a run of about two million copies. That seems like a lot, but heres the catch, only seven hundred thousand are actually working copies! The rest only contain a portion of the game each, so you'll need to trade with friends like trading cards. If trading card companies can become wildly successful charing $2 a pack, imagine how much Sega will make charging $59 a game!
Skies of Arcadia will get a print run of about one million, but here's the catch; it's only on Dreamcast! They can release two editions, the game by itself and one bundled with a Dreamcast console for a premium. It should also come with a DreamArena key disc.
Finally Shenmue, they should use the profits from Skies and Billy to fund this game, coupled with Kickstarter monies. To save the surprise, they shouldn't actually name the kickstarter 'Shenmue' or even notify people that they are running a kick-starter. This way the surprise and the resulting sales boom will be intact. They should make this for PS3 and Xbox 360 and it should have graphics better than Crysis 2 and have competitive multiplayer where you need to enter the Shenmue Thunderdome in Kowloon. Basically make it like COD but better. This sounds expensive, but it won't be because they only need to make ONE copy of this game, not over a million like most big budget titles. By making only one copy, it'll be a collector's edition instantly, and they can charge THOUSANDS of dollars for the game. It'll then become a communal game that is passed between Sega fans. This is something new that has NEVER been done before.

Take this seriously!

Hey Semmie,
1. Just a quick question. Don't take this the wrong way, but where are you from? I mean your written english is less than perfect (which is totally fine), I just want an accurate accent in my head when I'm reading your posts. I really really don't mean to be offensive btw. I can speak spanish but can't write it for shit so you're a brave dude if english is not your first language.
2. Are you serious? haha, comon man, the idea is near impossible from a dollars perspective, but the standards you're hoping for each title. lol.
3. Serious, dude, seriously??
4. Your bonkers man, but hey, every forum needs one I guess.
(MadeMan, greatest response of all time. LMAO)

Sega Master system - Not a spin off or variation from the alex kidds, even though I loved the one in shinobi world and the lost stars wasn't bad either. Though it would have been cool if they made a 2nd in the miracle world type of game. Saying this without counting the terrible existence of the genesis game.
Genesis- The genesis obviously needed more RPG's and indeed crusader of centy AKA soleil was is an amazingly underrated game. Better than zelda in my opinion. I think it was made by ATLUS? Anyway if there were to be made another genesis game i'd like it to be an RPG. A turn based phantasy star 5, or something similar to Crusader of centy
Saturn - You hit the nail with this one. Definitly a panzer dragoon game, preferably sagas 2. One thing I think the saturn really missed was a quality 3d platformer. They were either bad Playstation ports or just simply terrible like bug. I would go with a sonic platformer similar to what sonic jam showed as a concept, allthough faster ofcourse.
Dreamcast - The online capabilities were amazing, but used so scarsily. Phantasy star online is my most played DC game and I still love the franchise to this day because of it. I think more online content would have been amazing for the dreamcast. I'd go for a co op online game similar to gauntlet and cannon spike. That would have been pretty fun I think
-
Well, despite the impossibility, I love the idea. I wish it were possible that there was still a viable mass market for the older, cartridge-based systems especially. Imagine if Sega actually did something this crazy... it would get a lot of attention and positive press. But there could be liability risks as well, as the consoles are all aging and it would be a huge investment to ramp up manufacturing for one-off items like these. Anyhow, it's a great idea, but the closest we'll come to this is by supporting the homebrew developers who have done recent games like Digger Chan for the Master System and Pier Solar for the Genesis.

i speak dutch. but i can speak english the normal way if i want to. but when i type really fast i somehow use the slang of stockton california cause i used to go with peeps like that for a very long time.
ofcourse if i want to and try my best.
but typing fast and at the same time gaming and talking to my wife makes it hard to use dots and komma.
i just love sega and i keep thinking of ways to get things done.
bonkers? yeah thats me. In holland we call it ..prettig gestoord..
it means: nice crazy :
that is how i like to describe myself.
at all times we a as a sega fan site and forum should try hard to contact the sega department. Maybe sega has more insight to their economy, but we as sega fans have more expertise to the market of today. We know better what consumers want. Cause we ARE the consumers.
The problem is with leaders when they lead for so long they get defective in their freaking brains. all they see is money. but when you only focus on the money you will lose money and even more.
A stunt like this : the wake up project. It would make a lot of things better. Old fans that forgot about sega will play it again.
now dont think dirty you dirty devil.
but sega need to fill all the gaps and holes. its a great company but it needs to be polished.
Ok as you see this was my attempt to type english the correct :P But dont get used to it. To much thinking for me.
Back to the old me:
the wake up project would be the best ever aight. and i just suggested some of the games. buut hey there are other games as well ye know. like shenmue mentioned earlier.

arent u amongst those that are waiting for a good game to show u and then shout hell yeah thats a good game. and then when it isnt u just basically sprout that sega is shit.
No. In fact it's quite the opposite, when many around here shout out that some Sega games are shit I actually try to come up with some positives.
Sega should totally just restart the whole videogame industry. THINK ABOUT IT:
They'd release a new MASTER SYSTEM, and just release MS sequels for a couple of months, so that people really learn the roots of gaming. Many people just got into gaming and deserve to relive the 8-bit days!
Then, they'd make a new Mega Drive, and release Sonic 5 & Shadow & Silver, a monster DOUBLE LOCK ON masterpiece complete with 16-bit music from great pop artists like Prince and Mastodon (you know, just like MJ did Sonic 3).
Then they need to release a new Sega Saturn, but call it the Sega Enceladus (like Saturn's moon, clever peeps know this) and get Square Enix to port FINAL FANTASY VII for it (like it should have back then). Just imagine all the FF fans that would buy it for a retro remake of the original PSX game running at slightly better framerate on your brand spanking new Sega Enceladus!
Then came the Sega Creamcast, so good you creamed your pants, complete with online for EVERY GAME (paid online of course just like Xbox Live but more expensive cause it's better and Sega needs to be rich). The controller would be just like the Dreamcast controller but with 2 extra bumpers, a second analog, a rear touch pad, 6 face buttons, and 3 slots for different color AMOLED LCD VMUs that together compose a whole second touchscreen on your hands.
People would revisit all the best moments of gaming throughout a whole year (Sega needs to plan this right guys) and sell everything really cheap but profitable so that it makes a lot of moonies.
And at last they release the Sega Ultimate console. A console so powerful that Sony finally goes bankrupt and Sega gets their revenge by making better games than EA and buying EA and destroying Nintendo for having all the good Sega and EA games.
Shenmue 3 would be an exclusive and be divided into a whole new trilogy (people love trilogies), like a trilogy inside a trilogy know what I mean? So people would pay 3 times more for it, and buy all the games.
This is surely the ONLY WAY for Sega to be great again.

Oh god, my sides

do people also love to drive bikes while licking on a popsicle?
LOL..
but i hope u get the message. there are a lot of unfinished games.
call it wake up call. just to feed this hunger . especially the panzer dragoon saga2

Whenever Semmie posts I choose to read it as if I'm playing Macbeth and reading a monologue in Shakespeare's play. With lots of flourish and increases in volume and emotion at certain (bold) parts.
It makes Semmie seem somehow better than he is.
-
yet 22 kudos's cant be wrong, semmie is popular with the folks around here.
-
I swear one person is upping him as a gag, or Shadi went in and changed the numbers.
Just goofed around with mine myself (via admin access) and saw that I had over 100 positive kudos, but around 96 negative (back when we had negative). Kogen was most likely spamming me at the time. Now I have a power level of over 60,000!

or mademan, such a hater... 8)
I keep tellin you, dawg, this ain't a fighting game! neg rep does not bring a KO!

I would totally buy a fighting game based on the Segabits forums.
-
I don't want Sega to ever make a new console, or bring back the old ones.
I like that I can now buy old Sega classics on Steam...
If Sega was to ever make hardware again the only thing I would suggest is possibly a tablet with a large gaming focus.

As much as I hate to admit it, I agree with that sentiment. Well, as far as wanting to use a controller, playing it on an actual console. I'm an old bastard who's set in his ways and doesn't want to adopt this motion-control bullshit. On top of that, I like having the actual game, with it's box and instructions. I don't think suggesting a tablet is the foulest thing to say as a SEGA fan though....
"The Saturn's not our future" still trumps that for me. LOL!
-
Digital games are the future, get used to it boys.
Also, digital games are safer than physical copies, Steam, GOG etc will outlast your cartridges and CDs.
-
I love physical copies, but I totally get why companies go digital. Especially with titles like the Saturn/Dreamcast rereleases and stuff like Hell Yeah and Sonic 4. Back in the 90's/early '00's these would fly on disc, but now it's just too risky. I see the used game bargain bins at Gamestop and its just title after title that could have been digital.

barry the thing with appstore and steam is that when games get to old or not succesfull at all they simply put it of the digital shelf. so after you buy it. and let us just say you uninstall it. and later on you realise that you actually wanna play it again. and then?
not on steam anymore
boxed is the best
ok for rereleases and small type games its ideal. but big ass games such as brderland ye know better have it boxed.
this doesnt mean i dont understand why they go digital. but a smart consumer who wnts to litteraly own a game. does actually fully own it when its in his own real wooden shelve.
-
Give me one example of a digital game that can't be purchased anymore ???
Seriously I'm pretty sure they can't do this, and is it any different to Panzer Dragoon Saga not being in print anymore and costing $500 USD?
Digital games are great, especially when they are DRM free like GOG.
-

I'm not sure how much safer they are. If my console dies, it doesn't take my game with it. Say my PS3's hard drive takes a shit, it's gonna' take my games with it. Sure, so long as I can back it up every so often, I should be fine. Still, that's an issue for me. How do I replace that copy if I should lose it? Am I gonna' have to pay for it again?
Digital games aren't the future, in my opinion; it's just an option. Digital comics, digital movies and digital music haven't replaced physical copies. People are still producing comic books, DVDs, Blu-Rays, CDs and even vinyl records. I could be wrong, and probably am. Sure as shit wouldn't be the first time.
Regardless, I'm old, stubborn, and set in my ways. I'll like my old shit. Hehe. I understand the appeal of having everything reduced to ether, what with how much crap people produce. It's very economical and cheap. No arguments there. However, I don't like putting all my eggs in one basket.

^It doesn't matter if the HDD you stored them on dies. Hell, I could throw my PC into a pit of lava, fly to the USA and buy a brand new tower from the local PC store, then just sign into Steam or my GOG account and re-download every game I owned. Then I could do the same with my Xbox 360's XBLA games or PSN games.
Compare this to if my copy of Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 gets a scratch on the disc when taking it to a friends house, and basically my copy is fucked and I have no right to play it again until I buy another copy from the store or second hand.
I do think digital will take over, but hasn't happened yet because we just don't have the infrastructure (internets and HDD space) to keep up yet. Also because they often have retarded pricing online so that retailers won't go kaput overnight.

I love toast, I eat it almost everyday and yet I don't give a shit what toaster it came from... It works exactly the same for video games and consoles.
Also Wake up Wendy, times are changing. Digital is the future.

It's awesome that they provide that service and make it fairly easy for users to recover their data. The concept doesn't appeal to me though. Besides, I only have one computer. I need as much space as possible for video/audio editing. That may be an issue I have that colors my judgement slightly. I use a computer for work; not to play games. Always been a console gamer. Like I said, old and stubborn.
I've yet to scratch the shit outta' my discs, or fuck up my cartridges. Shit, my Atari 2600 gets a lot of play, and it plays like new. Picture comes in crystal clear, every cartridge I've stuck in that "woody" works without so much as a fart. That's pretty cool, considering it's older than I am. Hehe.
I'm sure infrastructure plays a big part, but I know I'm not the only one that doesn't really care for the idea of everything going digital.

In terms of PC space, it doesn't really come into account. Whether it's on disc or downloaded is irrelevant, you can still download and delete the games from your HDD as required. If it's on disc the data is on disc, if it's digital it's stored out in the ether until you download it.
And yeah it works the same on Consoles or PC basically. I understand your point though, I like to have physical copies when possible too, for a number of reasons, but I do love digital services like Steam and GOG as well.
-
If I give someone money they sure as shit better be handing me something in return.
Fuck digital.

I have no idea what situations you're referring to.
Midway games were pulled from XBLA after the company closed, but the game's files are still on the servers. Anybody who spent money on the games still owns them, and can delete and re-download them regardless of their absence from the store. As long as they have their XBLA account, they have access to the games.
Same goes for Outrun Online Arcade, which I own but it was removed from XBLA a year ago. I can delete it if I wish and still download it.
On the App Store, same deal. Sonic at the Winter Olympic Games was only on the store for a short while, but was removed. Yet I can still download it if I wish. It's in my listing of purchased apps.
The only time, and I mean ONLY time that I can see one losing access to a digital title is if it relies heavily on servers and the company (like EA on the App Store) decides to stop supporting it. But again, this is no different from Phantasy Star Online on the Dreamcast. A good chunk of the game is now inaccessible.
---
I'm a game collector, and I appreciate boxed games, but I completely understand digital titles. Really, in the end, it is boxed-only minded gamers who are hurting themselves by ignoring fantastic titles simply because they cannot pop in a disc and play it. Aside from that little moment of removing the disc from the case and opening the tray, games like Outrun Online Arcade, Afterburner Climax and Hell Yeah are no different from Binary Domain or Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. Still the same console and controller, games even appear in the same menus (the disc title appears with the digital titles).
The only way I can see digital download naysayers being right is if we were to look off to some distant hypothetical future when a company like Microsoft or Sony goes out of business and the ability to re-download titles disappears. But even then, there are a whole host of possibilities that could still allow us to access the games.
The one thing I do agree with, when it comes to negatives of digital titles, is that I can never justify spending more than $20 on a game if it also exists as a boxed release. Like Nintendo's thing of selling digital titles the same day as retail releases. I'd prefer to physically own a game like NSMB2 than download it, if I'm spending $40.
If I give someone money they sure as shit better be handing me something in return.
Fuck digital.
Ha! I love this sort of attitude. Yes, fuck SEGA and their digital titles. Because really, a game is not about the game itself. It's about a disc and a box. Something like Hell Yeah or Monster World 4 or JSR HD are nothing unless they are on a disc and sitting on a shelf. Until SEGA does so, which ain't happening with titles like those, then those games should never be played. :P
Honestly, are you serious? I mean, if you really mean "fuck digital" then you might as well get out of gaming now before the next gen consoles come. Or just stick to retro consoles.
I wonder, if SEGA were still making consoles and they had a digital download service (and face it, they would given how innovative they are) would we be saying "fuck digital" or would we be happily downloading digital titles to play on our Dreamcast 2?

ios in belgium kingdom conquest is gone
spanish in a month is gone
i bought spanish and their gone i was forced to jb my phone and reinstall it trough installous
kingdom conquest i had to install the dutch version. but to get that done i had to crack it in order to install it on iphone
honestly i cant name one on steam. but if u google surely ull find games that were put off. and sometimes it gets back again and sometimes never.
digital sucks.
you get a great advantage. but ther is nothing like a boxed game.
and if scratched ur stupid fault.
its legal to make a backup. so for every game i ever owned and that was actually cd id make a backup of it.
-
So, Kingdom Conquest in Spain and Belgium. But are these servers or are they removed outright?
In any case, I'm sure the game is ending because the sequel is coming:
http://kingdom-conquest2.com/en/index.html
Again, no different from PSO on Dreamcast. Just think of Kingdom Conquest 2 as PSO version 2
---
As for Steam, that was your example, not mine. And since you can't name any examples, we'll just have to assume that Steam isn't an example of digital titles being taken away forever, even from those who already bought it.
And you concede that with digital you get a great advantage? Cool, we agree on that.
"and if scratched ur stupid fault" is a poor excuse, that was what we were arguing about to begin with. Compared to a physical copy, digital titles just have more protection than physical. Even if a digital file gets corrupted somehow, you can just delete it and reinstall it. Game saves are typically separate, and saved to a cloud, so you can continue playing once you reinstall the game. Compare that to physical, where the longevity of the game depends on how well you maintain your collection and handle your discs. Natural disasters could wipe out physical copies, but digital are safe.
Backups are good, for games that work on a CD. All that comes to mind, though, are Dreamcast and perhaps SEGA CD. I don't know of Saturn titles being back-up friendly. In my quest to play Panzer Dragoon Saga, I looked into burning the files to a disc but found that it doesn't work well, if at all.
---
Anyway, my stance is: I love physical copies, I love digital copies. I don't think either are bad, and both do have their downsides. But people outright hating digital and giving it the middle finger need change their attitude.

Well its understandable considering the statements from Sega themselves and the type of digital games we have seen by them. None of them are exactly AAA level and that does not mean the digital games they have released aren't good. People are worried that the type of game people are use to and want from sega may be lost in the new "digital" age. People are frustrated with Sega but that doesn't mean we dont want them to stop making a console high level AAA game which is original, innovative and competes with some of the other AAA titles out there. But the indications so far on Sega's new digital horizon is that these games will be less and less. And to many including myself that's a step backwards.

I crazily(?) went and bought it this year... I figured, the price is never getting any lower, and if I need to some day I can sell it for more than what I bought it for. Hopefully I won't ever have to, but it is already going for more than what I paid. But regarding backups for the Saturn, without getting into too much detail, it can be done, but it requires a modification than involves some soldering, so it's out of the question for most people.
There is some digital game service, I forget which one, that made a statement a couple years back that they have the rights to Panzer Dragoon Saga but they figured there isn't enough of an audience to bother making it available. In situations like this, and other highly-sought-after titles, especially the disc based ones, I wonder why Sega doesn't do reissues. It wouldn't hurt the value of the originals (not that they would particularly care about the collectors' market), and it would enable a lot of fans to get their hands on these games.

without saying all to much u can buy backup chip and panzerdragoonsaga must be burned with 2speed including the verify button. the only game that dont work for me somehow is mk2
digital is not owning but buying air. and ull eventually find out. what many dont know is that there is a limitation of support over years for games. u better own it boxed
i cant go yes or no all day. u say tomatoes i say potatoes
if u dont agree i let u be. ull find out eventually
while u think u have something. u actually have nothing. an that is wassup. but it depends how u feel about it and how u define it. to u its not nothing. but i simply believe in the 6 senses we have and in an ideal perfect world where everything is correct. u only own something when it is in ur hands. i mean the raw material should be yours.
and to my opinion barry im sorry you have nothing.
ill let u be but after 10 years or less those games wont be on steam. and her u will be thinking of what i said .
ull see ;)

semmie, if I could comprehend your writing I'd reply, but let's just call it a day because I can't for the life of me figure out what you're saying 80% of the time. :-\

Fuck digital.
Pay $20 for a retail copy: You have that ONE disc and that's it. That's all you ever have for your $20.
Pay $20 for a digital copy: You can play it on your PC, your laptop, your friend's PC, you can re-download it as many times as you require.
Tell me again how you're getting less value ???
Seriously, I don't think people have this concept understood yet, you're paying a license for the software, the software is the only thing of value. When you buy a game from a shop, do you really think you are getting anything of value from the physical materials? It's like $2 worth of plastic and paper in the box, you're paying for SOFTWARE. Not only that but you're paying for software that is tied to a piece of storage equipment, and that single copy of it only. When you buy a licence online you can do whatver you want with it.

How is it any different to Marvel vs Capcom 2 going out of print on Xbox and then costing $500 a copy? Retail games can be pulled from shelf as well.
Games get damaged, not 'through your own stupid fault' but through wear and tear sometimes. What about fire/floods? What about theft? What about genuine mistakes when you bring a game to play at a friends house?
And yes you can make copies, but good luck playing one on an Xbox or PS3 without getting bricked or modding the console. And ummm digital copies are basically 'backups' that are already made for you in advance and can be used over and over. So you're supporting digital copies when you make backups because that's the same concept.
And you really prefer buying a game, buying a backup storage unit, and doing all the work yourself? YOu can get a digital copy and do the same thing but someone does the backing up for you.
Seriously, publishers need to educate people about these services I think. I'm not insulting people, but I really get the impression that people don't fully understand the concept.
-
I really think digital just infringes on people's nostalgia of owning a physical library of games, and the concept of having something to hold that represents "the game" is something that will take a very very long time for some people to shake off.
The idea of buying the right to play the game isn't enough for people, though like you pointed out, the physical materials like the case and disc cost very little. I think it's less about true value and more about sentimental value.
Because quite honestly, the argument that digital copies are more fragile than physical copies makes no sense as we've gone over again and again.
--
The way I see it, I'm a big fan of physically owning a game, but I totally get why titles like SEGA's recent digital offerings would be a waste of money, and possibly a loss of profit for SEGA, if released as disc copies. Like Hell Yeah, for example. How do they gauge how many to make? What if they press too many? What if the game is just too "small" (in terms of graphical power and gameplay time) to compete with larger more retail-friendly games?
I could easily see every one of the SEGA digital titles being in a bargian bin if they went straight to disc. The Dreamcast Collection comes to mind. I see tons of those at Gamespot in the clearance bins. They're just four digital titles on a disc. Didn't seem like a smart move for SEGA in the end.

I'm fairly sure Sega lost the source code for Panzer Dragoon Saga, which is why it hasnt been reissued. .

its really a matter of opinion . and how you feel about it.
i never said that which you say is not truth for a fact. but for me it is not truth cause you have to own the game.. and to me it is just air.
this is the division of thoughts.
and just wait when steam gasses out. or simply deletes a game after years. we really need to read the policy. we never do cause we just do accept and play.
-
Well the other problem is that digital is making chunks of money and doing it quickly than a traditional game and with less R+D too. KINGDOM CONQUEST 2 went to the top of the charts, I think PS0 2 which is probably the more expensive of the three games i'm going to mention had a million users in its first month and SPIRAL KNIGHTS has got up to 3 million users as well. (SIGH) Less risk i suppose.
-
It is gratifying to see PSO2 sell so well, though.

I've heard this rumor as well, but I don't think it's ever been officially confirmed. It might have been Simon Jeffery who started this rumor with some offhand remark, just like when he stated that as far as he knew, Yu Suzuki wasn't working for Sega anymore (which at the time he was). But regardless of whether or not it's true, they don't really need the source code, they just need to emulate it. Obviously they have the source for Nights, so I personally don't really think any of the Saturn source codes have been lost... but I suppose we'll find out for sure some day.
-
The other issue is that Saturn emulation is supposedly a monumental pain in the ass because of it's dual processors and stuff.
-

I thought they were nine processors.
But yeah, it's a pain. And many of the Saturn's worthwhile games have arcade versions too.

It was officially confirmed by Saga's team leader, Yukio Futatsugi.

i am not aware of this news im reading. disturbing tho knowing that they lost one of the best games sega ever made
kinda sloppy.
but somehow i dont believe it. .

Why would they lie? What would be their motive? What would they gain?

its more of me. i cant believ that someone would do such a thing. especially panzer dragoon saga.

Computers fail, bro. Shit happens. I highly doubt someone sat down and said, "You know what, fuck all that hard work in creating an incredible RPG. I'm gonna' delete it all." Seriously, I'm sure it was accident or a techincal hiccup.

Interesting. If that were the case, who would have done it? Maybe an ex-employee? Someone that got kicked from the project?
-
I agree digital has a place. However, when I buy a physical copy of a game I can sell that game if I want to. And rare games I can usually sell for more.
That's actual value.
Digital bits are literally valueless.
-
By that logic condoms are also valueless because you can't sell them after you used them.
-
I'm not sure where you think you're going with that, but I get a lot of enjoyment out of my shelves of Master System, Genesis, Saturn and Dreamcast games. I don't even want to think about the same volume of used condoms on my shelves. Oh crap, I'm thinking about it!!
-
By that logic condoms are also valueless because you can't sell them after you used them.
LOL! I love a good sexual analogy. Right on!
However, I see the point. Digital has it's drawbacks, just as physical copies have their own.
-
Digital is sex.
Physical is love.
-
Digital is sex.
Physical is love.
I want that on a T-shirt.
-
LOL! I love a good sexual analogy. Right on!

I definitely agree, I'm just saying it's hardly fair to say digital is 'Valueless' because of one minor drawback like re-sale value.
Digital is sex.
Physical is love.
Ha! I love that.
-
I meant that it is valueless in that it has no actual, real world value.
That is indisputable.
I like digital just fine, but I will always buy a physical copy over digital because I always think long term. I won't pull out a file and dust it off in ten years to play it again.
In fact, usually my digital games eventually get deleted in favor of a newer game that needs the storage space. Years later I vaguely remember I might have at one time played some digital game or another... But I never forget playing physical copies of games because I see them in my study staring at me, reminding me of the good times I had playing them.
This argument, like nearly all arguments, is one that is pointless. No one's opinion has ever been changed on the internet. To each his/her own!
-

No they lost a lot of codes. Its common knowledge with many Sega fans or i thought it was. The reason they were able to do the GUARDIAN HEROES HD remake was because Treasure had the source codes of the original game. But many including the original PANZER DRAGON series were lost, thats why every time they release a various copy of the game its the PC version and not the original saturn game. it was a crazy period within sega at that time, infighting between SOJ and SOA, infighting between teams, infighting between Sega and second parties, lack of caring..chaos. it wasn't a great time to be an employee there. Despite the fact many great titles arose from that period. only the real big games were protected or survived like NIGHTS because of Sonic team or SAKURA TAISEN and the like because of the fact that the second party managed to retain the original source codes.
-
Is it impossible to pull the code off of a game disc? I don't know much about this stuff, but it seems that if the software is on a disc then couldn't they use some sort of platform to access the software code? Don't indie developers, hackers, and fan projects do this all the time?
-
I'm an idiot when it comes to the super technical stuff, but I assume the code does not equal what is on the disc. They could conceivably emulate a Saturn and play the game with the data on the discs, but they could not port the game like NiGHTS or Guardian Heroes because they don't have some important data. Maybe some brainiac could fill me in on what exactly was lost and why it is so important to a rerelease?
-
From the little technical stuff I know, it's like the following:
Imagine the source code is "5+2+1" which equals 8.
The product in the disc is a button that when pressed gives you 8, but you can't see the calculations behind.
And different systems have different ways of making the same calculations. So you either alter the code, or you have to reverse engineer the whole game.
