Here's the hardware chart in full (numbers in brackets are lifetime figures):
These charts were made in 9 december 2012
Nintendo 3DS – 167,408 (8,587,879)
PlayStation 3 – 29,809 (8,679,266)
PSP – 15,941 (19,468,599)
PlayStation Vita – 11,066 (1,063,582)
Nintendo Wii – 5,550 (12,601,986)
Xbox 360 – 1,217 (1,607,183)
PlayStation 2 – 812 (21,828,208)
Nintendo DS – 457 (32,875,045)
FIRST NUMBER IS WHAT IT SOLD IN MONTH NOVEMBER. SECOND IS THE UNITS SOLD FROM DAY OF RELEASE
just look at these charts. even ps3 on long time only sold so much and sega dc even had more lol.
but ofcourse its sony. having losses is like a tiny mugbite. but psvita is a serious damage tho. they have games i can count on 2 hands. no wonder peeps buy 3ds.
i do not have the charts of worldwide but it doesnt seem promising
i neglected the ps vita cause they are rip offs. u wwill have to buy an sd card seperatly 4gb is freaking 30 euros.

Your time has come, Vita.

1 million is a very small playerbase :-\

1 million is a very small playerbase :-\
man its so wors. in europe in shops such as toys r us
or dutch bart smit or european intertoys. u will see that psvita is put in shelves where old psp is.
like the sellers allready know that thing is not gonna sell.
also there is no games for it. i could find 7 in one store which r shit. such as fifa or ridger racer.
the only game worth buying was assassins creed liberation.
here come the rip off in europe
psvita costs
psvita wifi 200
psvita wifi and 3g 250
ok we are not finished. you are forced to buy a sd card seperatly. and it has to be a encrypted psvita sd card. otherwise it dont work. and without you cant save it. so the price is
4gb 20 to 30 euro
8gb 50
16gb 80
so as u see the psvita alone is 200 or 250
this is a rip off and u need the sd card persay so you will be paying 230 or 280.
and we are not finished yet. assassins creed costs 50 euro. and the cheapest game u dont wanna buy cause its fifa crap.
basically a complete psvita with all functions costs minimal 280 and 3g 320 euro
no wonder no one buys it. i had the handheld in my hand for freaking 15minutes with doubts walking to the checkin and i basically Uturned it back to its shelve and went lloking for ninten... u know how i feel about it.
and the ninten... 3dsxl costs me 200 with adapter with sd card included.. plus if u join the mofo,s on ninten... website ull get a game free such as mario 3d land. u heard the word 200. and many games as well unlike vita.
i hate the biatches both. but u gotta admit that vita is in bad shape
im just a squirrel in this big world and my kowledge for sales is limited. but i do have sources:
Life-to-date number of 3DS units shipped (all models combined in millions) Date Japan America Other Total
2011-03-31[151] 1.06 1.32 1.23 3.61

2012-09-30[7] 7.94 7.38 6.88 22.19
and look at vita:
Sales
On December 17, 2011, the PlayStation Vita launched in Japan with around 325,000 units sold in the first few days. Sales dropped 78% in the second week ending on December 25, 2011 to 74,000 units sold.[76] PlayStation Vita sales continued to drop in subsequent weeks,[77] reaching its low since launch during the week of February 13, with only 12,309 units being sold in Japan.[78] (During the same week, it was outsold by its predecessor, the PSP, which sold 14,824 units.)[78] After its global release, Sony announced on February 28, 2012 that the Vita had sold 1.2 million units worldwide, in addition to 2 million game units.[79] The sales number was 2.2 million units at the end of June 2012.[80] PlayStation Vita sales continued to drop in subsequent weeks, reaching its all time low during the week of November 5th 2012, with only 4,021 units being sold in Japan.[81] (During the same week, it was outsold by its predecessor, the PSP, which sold 12,076 units.)
both source wikipedia. we can conclude that this is very drastic

I agree, the PSV has no place in the over-crowded portable market. We are expected to have a smartphone, tablet, and vita? There's too much overlap there in performance.
I wish it had basic phone functionality, then at least I can justify getting to replace my phone.
-
I must be one of the few that really like the Vita. It's a powerful handheld for sure but like the PSP long before it had the same problems with slow adoption and expensive proprietary memory storage.
The old 2GB Pro Duo at the PSP launch was mid range and cost quite a bit back then. The current Vita storage solution is expensive but for two logical reasons. One to curb piracy which is now rampant on the PSP and various firmware hacks to execute unsigned code. Secondly, the R&D behind the new physical design for the memory card.
The Vita is a technical beast that even with my Galaxy S III having a HD display, the four core PowerVR chipset on the Vita stomps my phone let alone my iPad in visuals and speed.
The other concern is Nintendo, who had held the portable gaming market since the original Game Boy. Many other companies have challenged Nintendo and lost even with superior hardware. My two favorite handhelds from years back that ate AA batteries like a kid with a pile of candy were...
NEC TurboExpress - no need to buy new games for your portable, it played the same HUcard games that were on the game system. The price back in the day was more than the Vital and a 32GB card combined. Like the Game Gear, it also had a TV tuner accessory which was much sharper than the Sega GG. Much of the cost of the TurboExpress was the color LCD which had over twice the clarity of the Game Gear.
I'm no hater of the GG, a friend of mine had one and bought nearly every last official accessory for it including some others. The Master Gear converter really let me down as I wanted to play Phantasy Star but couldn't make out any text due to the lower screen resolution.
Sega Nomad - after a very long wait and advances in technology, a portable Genesis was born with all the right things that made it a great gaming device but it was just so late in the life of the Genesis that a lot of us were scratching our heads. It was beautiful for Street Fighter and many other gems I kept in my desk. I loved that it could be easily connected to a TV with a Genesis 2 stereo AV cable and a port for a second controller. Again, the problem with it was price. The display was expensive and power hungry but great for gaming as it was razor sharp with a decent refresh rate.
Nintendo at the time was still selling the black & white Game Boy Pocket. A fraction of the cost and already a huge amount of games on the shelves.
Back to the topic of the Vita, it uses a OLED display which is ideal for fast action since there is absolutely zero lag between the graphics buffer to the display. Using the same tech found in most all Samsung Galaxy S series phones for years at a massive 5" view.
I had spent a lot more than average on my PS Vita than the norm. I didn't want to wait so I imported the Japanese model and bought the 32GB Vita memory card. The beauty, the systems are not region locked. Your PSN account data and profile are stored and encrypted on the memory card which makes things a bit of a Pita (bad pun alert) if you swap out memory cards.
I can see the growing pains with the Vita just as the PSP back during it's launch. A handful of great games with long "dry periods". If there is anything in the PS Vita's favor is the ability to play existing PSP games from the PS Store and slowly getting even more classics with PSOne game support.
So it's not so much the lack of games, it's the high price of admission and few killer apps compared to the marketing muscle of Nintendo and the 3DS. I had bought the original Legend Of Zelda themed 3DS and really liked it but for a modern handheld that is technically more powerful than the original Wii, few games really showed well. DS backward compatibility is a huge plus but side by side, not as vibrant as my old DS Lite. The other problem I had with the 3DS isn't a fault of the system, but my own. I'm blind in one eye so the 3D part of it all was a useless option for me.
Already Nintendo has started "the color mill" (as I call it) with different color options and already a XL model which looks worlds better than the chunky original 3DS in every way. It's sleek and well made, boasting a 5" main display (same screen size as the Vital) but the same original resolution for larger pixels.
Nintendo has ruled the handheld market and while the PlayStation Vita is the most powerful handheld gaming system to date, tech doesn't win customers, great games do. That being said, I do hope the Vita picks up steam, it's one of the most amazing pieces of gaming hardware on the market truly being able to rival the 360 and PS3 in graphics and sound. Uncharted, Marvel vs. Capcom, and Little Big Planet Vita are solid proof of this. These are also early generation games as well!
Imagine what could be pulled off in a few years ahead.

As for the expensive memory solutions, me as a consumer don't give two shits about the "why". From my point of view I'm paying 30euro for 4gb, when the same money would get me 32gb on other formats.
Then theres the hugeness of the console. I had a Samsung Galaxy S and shit was hard to walk around with in the pocket. The SGS3 is even huger! And the Vita is as big while being fat and thick and bulky. Carrying it around must be a pain, as opposed to my PSPgo which fits anywhere.
Then the lack of games is astounding. There are no worthwhile experiences that the PSP doesn't give you already. Hell, most of the Vita's games have PSP versions.
Lumines and Wipeout are some of the best portable experiences I've ever had. Am I willing to pay 300+ euros for a graphics upgrade? No.
The Vita has the potential to launch into the exosphere if they manage a massive price drop and release cheap unlimited data plans.
Online gaming with PS3 quality on the go? Now that's worth my money.
But as it stands now the 3G Vita with a 200mb data plan runs for as much as a flagship mobile with 1gb plan, or a ipad mini. These devices are incredibly more vesatile (I'm blasting some Pirates! on my ipad mini right now).
So yeah, I'm not willing to carry around a 3rd piece of hardware with me unless it's small and cheap. My PSPgo fits the bill perfectly, while carrying 16gb worth of gaming (psp, ps1 and emulators), most of which don't run on the Vita yet.

Ahh. So the lack of game/software piracy options makes it a bad thing?
That makes perfect sense... :o

for some people its a reason to buy it.
i have 3ds and im fine not pirating it. shadow of the damned didnt get part 2 cause it was massively pirated. so im kinda coom with gamemakers. i do not pirate. accept the sega saturn. but thats allowed :)
as for the vita. it is really powerfull and i agree for most part.
but it doesnt add up. im not gonna ask u how much you bought the 32 gb card only
but the standard middle class gamer cant afford all thos seperate purchases. and its not cnvinient to membership a 3g account at any provider when most countrys have500mb limit
surely if psvita doesnt get cheap and add the 4gb in as a standard and at least one game it would be more bearable.
but then........
where are the games?

It would be ok if it had any worthwhile games as I said. But it doesn't. It either gives us dumbed down PS3 ports or PSP graphic updates. Nothing new, nothing worth my money.
I don't suppose you only read my last paragraph, so I'm sure I won't be adding nothing new to what I already said.
I'm totally onboard with semmie here.
(As for piracy, 90% of the time I buy used games anyway, the other 10% are for (some) FIFAs and Sega games. Other companies can rot in bankruptcy hell for all I care, I do pirate)
Another thing I just remembered:
In a world where my tablet can handle Unreal Engine 3-level graphic 90cent games and still last 5-10 hours, it is ABYSMAL paying 30+euros for an experience that ultimately hardly lasts 2/3 hours.
And I do use my devices more than that.
The Vita has no supply for today's demands.
Slimmer version, price cut, better battery, games. Then it's cool.
-
Given how much I enjoyed Gravoty Rush, SMB:BS and Uncharted...Sony need to step up their game.

At least Semmie is making some sense in this topic. Unreal Engine 3 games on tablets started with the first iPad and Infinity Blade. Just because a bargain title (most likely littered with microtransactions to offset the low price) can run on a tablet doesn't mean in the least that you will ever see the same level of visual detail from more powerful hardware.
So being your claim of inexpensive unreal engine 3 level games you're either on an iPad or a nexus 7 (or other Nvidia Tegra 3 based system) regardless of each you're telling me you're going to tap away at touch screen for ten hours? Here is a reality check. Either you will tire of said budget/sale title as a huge amount of games on the app store and Google Play are at a .93 € or .99 cents in the USA.
That being said I do own most of those games running on the Unreal Engine 3 and despite the larger battery on the tablet of choice will have a shorter play time as battery estimates are primarily for couch internet surfing or video playback
When the GPU and CPU have to be ramped up to higher speeds for visual demand, battery life shortens a great deal no matter what the spec sheet says.
Just as my last session playing Bard's Tale on my fully charged and well kept iPad 2, I got battery warnings in (surprise surprise) 3 hours of play on my 64GB iPad 2. That's not even using the Unreal Engine 3! Times were also on average with Infinity Blade 2. Nowhere near the 10 hour battery claim!
If you say you're getting a full ten hours of play with a hardware demanding game, that's complete rubbish or in America as we call it, bullshit!
Funny as the less powerful 3DS has never been mentioned and for it's level of hardware, play sessions on a full charge are even shorter than the PS Vita
Having both handhelds and a variety of tablets and phones, I know what battery life can be expected out of a realistic situation, not out of a brochure or otherwise.
That in mind, please check your FACTS instead of wishful thinking.
Sure game prices are different, how that affects me in the least is minimal. If you wish to steal software, that's your prerogative, I don't condone such action. If you wish to complain about price points between tablet gaming vs prices for Vita/3DS games, realize that they're two entirely different markets.
-
You want facts I give you facts.
The game I play most on my iPad is Football Manager. Is it on the Vita? Through PSP, yes.
So I either get it for 8 euros on the iPad or 25 on the PSP/Vita. And I DO get about 10 hours playing it on the iPad.
Yes, that is a specific game. But my point wasn't saying iPad substitutes the Vita. Was that the Vita doesn't do nearly enough to warrant a purchase taking into account that an iPad can easily support general portable gaming needs. For cheap as well. Freaking GTA 3 cost me 80cents. Crazy Taxi is at euro and half.
The best portable to have is a PSP in my opinion.
I'm not saying the Vita isn't enjoyable. If I were rich I'd get one. But I'm not. Even though I can afford one, it doesn't justify the steep starting price. It has no arguments on it's favor.

What you gave me was an opinion and in your previous post none your opinion was entirely true. I'm still looking how to get a good ten hour grind on Infinity Blade 2.
Now this time you sidestep your "point" with a rather old game. One I'm not really interested in honestly, but since I don't have a PSP but do have a Vital that can run PSP games (without the annoying lag of the LCD on the PSP) and get one of the best values for Castlevania fans. Sure it's not a Vita title, but still a great remake of the PC Engine exclusive (which can be unlocked and Castlevania SOTN as well. That is quite a bargain and looks great despite the visuals not aging too well. Two other exclusives that I've been wanting to play for ages were the Ys series remakes ported to the US by XSEED. None of which are available for Android or iOS.
It just seems so much easier to hate something you don't have or quite fully understand. I never understood this kind of behaviour as it's a game system and a very powerful one at that which was a rather bold move by Sony. The original PSP had these issues at it's launch and think of the PlayStation 3. Not a raging success story but still a great game system.
Both mobile/tablet gaming are two very different markets than handheld game consoles which are focused for video gaming instead of trying to be an all purpose device.
I love my iPad but I don't swear by it like a cult device that will do a better job at gaming than a device dedicated for such a thing. Twist and misinterpret this all you wish but frankly you got caught in over your head. How much did that iPad cost now? Mine was far more expensive than what I have invested in my Vita. Even used from various places and went the bargain route for a 16GB ipad 2 for a decent iOS gaming experience, it would still ring you for more. I bought a 64GB iPad 2 and a black leather smart cover and in iOS apps alone, I have a small fortune in the iOS app store alone.
Then again, I love my GAMES! Regardless of what I'm playing them on. The iPad fourth generation still has no smooth visual equivalent to Uncharted on the PlayStation Vita and will not come close to the level of detail and fluid motion that came to be a fairly decent launch title for the handheld.
I too wish Sony would get their collective asses in gear and get more games on it post haste. I'm not blind to the situation but I'm not going to hate a device or company simply for a slow start.
Compared to how badly the Sega Master System was handled in the US ages ago, that was rough if you didn't own a NES as well since quality games were amazingly scarce. Did I hate the Master System or Sega for it? Not at all.
This is just silly...
-
i dont think making psvita smaller will make it better. i want it to stay big. hmmm well at least they shouldnt resize the screen. otherwise the beautiful graphics will not get their justice
for real tho. the problem is the price and the seperate purchases
example if they would make it like
180 euro. with 4gb included and a warm nice game such as lttle big planet
this is at least 100euro less
results
people will massively buy it. sega will make games for it and all ofthem other developers
and im nt fan of sony telling this. but sega scattered and so i own ps3 and a 3ds and a psp
i dont have a strong urge to buy every handheld so for this gen i have 3ds and the previous was the psp.
what im trying to say is that most consumers are not hardcore gamers. maybe not even average. if they bought 3ds surely the chance is little to buy psvita.
sony needs to make this step fast cause their becoming late.
less games big price seperate purchases
this was actually sega that has done the same in the past.
it would be dumb of sony to do that which previous consoles done wrong.

I'm not continuing this argument over nothing if you continue to misuse what I say.
But some points that you completely missed:
Football Manager is not an old game. FM 2013 came out two weeks ago for both PSP and iPad.
The best Vita games are still just PSP games.
I don't hate the Vita. i just think it doesn't have the same value as an iPad or flagship mobile phone. Btw, an iPad mini costs 340euros with 16gb. A Vita with 16gb will run you about, you guessed it, 340 euros.
Again, I don't hate the Vita. But the promise of a portable PS3 means nothing when you have access to an actual PS3 and can't manage more than 40minutes game time while away from home.
Even less so when there are better alternatives at quick arcade experiences for cheaper on much more versitile devices.
I don't understand why not thinking the Vita is worth it mean I hate it, because I don't. But there's a reason it isn't selling, and the reason is that I'm not the only one that thinks this way.

Once again you dodge logic in the most confusing manner. The iPad mini is the worst investment anyone could buy into as it will have a Retina display in the next version.
You say I'm misusing your post somehow but when you post your opinion and preference as fact, it's a complete fallacy regardless. Somehow you feel the tablet and mobile gaming market is the same as dedicated handheld gaming. They are two very different markets entirely. If you can't put that together then there is no point in trying to explain that to you when you fail to listen to actual fact vs. opinion.
Mobile phones and tablets have become much better in gaming since the days of my old Nokia but they still have many limitations vs. dedicated gaming devices.
I avoid responding to your opinions based on principal as you already claim you pirate software and games which leads to the point here, if you're stealing something for "free" why are you arguing pricing at all?
Makes no sense at all as you claim the best games on the Vita are PSP games. This is another opinion, not a fact.
Comparing the budget iPad mini vs. what I paid for my Vita... puzzling and pointless. I already own an iPad. Why argue over the cost between the budget model iPad vs. the PlayStation Vita? Again, two completely different markets and designed to do things differently.
Not forgetting that the all new iPad mini is based off the long outdated hardware of the iPad 2 only with a improved camera.
Abusing your posts... wow... just... wow... :o
BTW... Football Manager was released here as the last posted update back in 2011! When you wish to post facts, research is a wonderful tool. Just tap previous updates and keep on scrolling. On your very own iPad you will see the truth.
Have a nice day... ???

I never said they are the same markets. But I did imply that the tablet market is eating up the handheld one. Which specialists believe it is.
Dedicated handhelds have many advantages to multipurpose devices, but the advantages offered today aren't compelling enough for most tablet/smartphone users. This is obvious, and I don't even understand what's to argue here, since the declining handheld sales clearly show that.
I said I pirated, I never said I didn't buy games.
And if we are arguing about the Vita based on personal experience rather than market appeal, then I'll just say it's shit cause I can't pirate it and end the discussion. But that would be boring.
This is another opinion, not a fact.
An opinion in the middle of a text about how in my opinion the Vita is a waste of money? Sacre bleu!
Then you go on and on with pointless blabbering on how the Vita and iPad markets are different, just fucking because I suppose.

Stop being a fucking moron and do your own goddamned research.
I'm fed up with this completely pointless discussion. I see in your arguments nothing but an hopeless attempt to justify your own expenditure of huge amounts of money on something that has it's future compromised by people like me.
You're not actually arguing me, you're arguing against the state of the industry. Against the merger of tablet and handheld.
I'm glad you're enjoying your console, but stop forcing it down my throat. Just accept that most people who think like me won't care until the price drops and the good games step in. And fucking move on. Jesus Christ.

The same fucking game has been available here since 2011, not my fault you have been behind in the game market. Never tell me that I don't research. Did you fall for the the yearly hamster wheel? Why are you whining at me? Did you feel compelled to post to get in that last word?
Secondly, spare me the drama... Shoving the Vita down your throat? I don't see who that is physically possible. ::) if you don't like it, don't buy it, just spare me the drama...PLEASE!
I don't need to justify any purchase of mine to anyone, if you think that way. A breath of fresh air really is in need and stop visiting this topic just for the sake of doing so. :-X ! If you wish to continue spouting off about it, be my guest as you're only making yourself look quite foolish. I don't throw money away. I buy the product that offers me the most for my hard earned money. If you have issues with decisions like that, I think there is something more to this than what has been revealed.
Finally, as one who IS in the industry, tablet/mobile games are still treated at a separate market than typical handhelds and always will be... Think you're going to play Super Mario on your iPad without resorting to piracy and crap emulation? Guess again. I'd love a great LoZ: OOT port to my iPad, it's not going to happen.
The exclusives will remain just that. Exclusive.
Still, I've found plenty of other games on my iPad that were worth the original launch prices for many games. Many of these games may never make it to a dedicated handheld.
-
I sent you links to FM freaking 2013. Which came out last week. Not 2012.
Resorting to emulation or not, the Vita is seriously lacking in games!
And don't you agree that the mobile market is eating up the handheld one?
Companies treating them like separate is exactly the reason sales are abysmal. People want games, regardless of platform. And gaming on the Vita is expensive.
There's a reason the PSP is selling better than the Vita. Cost. For both developers and consumers.

I took that screencap as you refused to believe that I said the game was out for a number of years. If you're going to have a hissyfit over the smallest of details, be my guest. I only said that it had been out for a few years regardless of yearly star updates like Madden Football for everything under the sun.
Again you argue markets but at least you are LEARNING that tthere are separate markets between mobile smartphone gaming and traditional handhelds.
Here is the lowdown...
Of course it is less expensive to develop on the PSP as it already has an established userbase something that Vital owners can also access once games go live on PSN. The PSP like the PS2 are dying if not already dead in the market as not only do gamers want more engaging experiences but also do the developers want a beefier platform for more complex games without having to make so much compromise.
Mobile gaming is a fast ROI market that capitalizes on in app purchases and other ways to monitize the product. The mobile gaming experience is also rather different in many ways with limited control methods that can be rather frustrating. Crossover devices such as the Xperia Play were a failure as mobile developers had to put in custom code to support it vs. a common touch screen device. Issues with Android fragmentation were also problems as not all phones were common architecture as the iPhone (which was rather cramped to play with such a small display.
Enter the iPad, small display problems were gone but not until the iPad 2 was it powerful enough to really take advantage of more complex character models and shared a common device architecture that original iPad owners could still play a recent game, but at a loss of detail due to limited memory and the slower A4 Arm CPU.
Some games worked better for mobile than dedicated counterparts but other games with the same title were completely different. Best games I've played on my iPad were mainly exclusive titles with only touch input in mind but also worked well. The Pinball HD series is a personal favorite along with games with mobile design in mind (Dead Space) and of course the Infinity Blade series.
Im not blind to great mobile games, I enjoy them and buy those worth the money. All is not quite rosy though. A good example of a completely different game on mobile due to limitations is the latest Need For Speed game Most Wanted. The game ported to the Vita was scaled back from it's bigger console brothers but you still had the complete free roaming environment. The mobile game was stripped of that and only a straight race affair without the freedom of choosing your own route. It looks great, but the game is not even near what was done on a dedicated system. Not to mention the extra ways of fleecing you for a few bucks here and there.
The mobile market primarily focuses on in game purchases despite what a low cost entry may be. Want to get rid of them annoying ads? $1.99 etc. (you may get the picture or choose to think such things don't exist)
Even in the best mobile games such as the incredibly well made Dead Space has in game purchases. That's how the mobile market survives and is a primary focus in mobile game development regardless of platform.
That is a pure fact that you can't deny as much as you would love to. That's why the initial price of mobile games can be so low. They are developed separately and treated as a separate market.

I've yet to read the whole comment, but in regard to the first paragraph, what the hell are you talking about! The Manager series as been around since 1992!! I've been playing it since 96.
Of course it's yearly, I was talking about the newest one (which is not just a stat update, it has significant improvements in key areas over last year).
As for the second paragraph, I've never said they were the same market (I may have re-typed this same sentence for 3 or 4 times now lol)
I'll get back to you with some more patience in a next reply in a couple of hours, I just got home and am still in a rush.
Sorry sorry!
-
I've yet to read the whole comment, but in regard to the first paragraph, what the hell are you talking about! The Manager series as been around since 1992!
Like I said long before, the game has been out for years the other day. Then you went off on a wild tangent which just was silly. I don't care for the game but know it exists and you cried out like I didn't know what the hell I was talking about. I don't give a rats ass about yearly updated sports titles and Football (known as soccer here in the USA) even less. Why bother?
The reason I keep reminding you of mobile gaming vs. dedicated handhelds is due to the fact that you keep comparing them yet not really understanding why. As your example of pricing an iPad mini against a PS Vita with a 16GB memory card. Again, why? The two devices couldn't be more different yet you still have trouble understanding.
If you're just arguing price, all Apple products have grossly over inflated pricing. Yet people still buy them including myself. Despite the price of the low end iPad mini with a pitiful amount of storage to a gaming device when they are clearly for different markets, why compare them at all?
-
But the issue in my opinion isn't if they are different markets or not.
I consider me and my peers to be target demographic for the Vita, for example. University students with some money and an active lifestyle that love games, that should be a handheld console buy right there.
Thing is, we already carry iPads around all the time. Some (like me) go triple combo and carry phone+mp3+ipad. We don't want to carry yet ANOTHER device.
Even more so when my iPad is capable of entertaining us with cheap/free games. They may not be as full featured, but rarely do you want full featured high concentration games on the train ride/10 minute break.
You see, I'm not saying they aren't different markets. But the versatility of the tablets is hurting the handheld market a lot. Do you understand now why I compare them?
You also say the PSP is dead. Maybe in the US, but it's selling more than the Vita in Japan on a regular basis.
Japanese devs are still shellin out PSP games that never come to the West, instead of supporting the Vita. West devs on the other hand don't want to invest in the Vita. The result are shallow ports. Sony needs to come up with a killer app and fast.
For the next generation I was contemplating turning to PC gaming and getting a handheld for the quicky videogame fix. I was planning a Vita, but now I don't know if the console will survive. It's really a shame.
-

Regardless if you compare them that way, developers/publishers still market them differently and treat them as separate markets. End of story. Once you graduate and possibly land a job at such an establishment, things may change. As it it's now, they remain separate entities entirely.
You also say the PSP is dead. Maybe in the US, but it's selling more than the Vita in Japan on a regular basis.

Being that Sony has finally laid the PS2 to rest in Japan, guess what's next. Till then even if the PSP finally gets the axe, those late to get thier games to market on PSN can still be played on the Vita.
For the next generation I was contemplating turning to PC gaming and getting a handheld for the quicky videogame fix. I was planning a Vita, but now I don't know if the console will survive. It's really a shame.
Given the amount of time that Sony invested making the Vita a reality, I seriously doubt it's going to dry out and blow away. Back in the day when the PSP hit the shelves here in the US, it was adopted rather slowly as developers were cashing in still on the Game Boy Advance SP and the "third pillar" experiment known as the Nintendo DS, the PSP had some tough competition.
Just wait till Sony Santa Monica gets something on the bugger after God of War origins is released. You can bet they have plans for the little beast. The Vita has a huge amount of potential as does the 3DS. Sony wants to bring a handheld console experience which is an odd goal but I imagine that will change. Games already out for it do rival their PS3 counterparts (Little Big Planet, Super Stardust Delta, etc)
Handheld gaming is something Nintendo had dialed down quite well but when bringing a console port to the 3DS, things just don't jive quite as well due to the lower resolution display. Compare MGS3: Snake Eater for both. Each system has it's style of games and genres just as a mobile phone does. Still they are not marketed against each other.
Mobile gaming is a low risk, high yield market. There's a lot more phones in the hands of people than there is a 3DS or PSP or Vita. So quick small games are the mobile market concept. Sure you can still play the DS ports of Final Fantasy on a iPhone or Android which bucks the trend completely. There's another trick though. Tablets of various models get more popular every day and while not a necessary item, they are easier than carrying a notebook PC. So the market that tablets are eating slowly away at is essentially the PC gaming sector or to gain funds from people who don't care to play games on a mobile phone. That is why it is a separate market. Games made for easy access/instant reward but still fleecing your pocketbook if you're the impatient type. That is why a mobile/tablet game can get away with such a low entry price (aside from games by Squaresoft which are spendy).
Hopefully you can understand how this all works...

i really have mixed feelings tho. just today again i was looking at it. it kinda drags you to buy it.
my love says yes do it pso2 is coming. Come on sem buy it
but when i become realistic ill just stick to one handheld 3ds or wait untill it gets a normal pricetag.
waiting has a bad side as well i must say. so what if pso2 comes out. and everyone will want to play it and all servers will be busy. if i buy it too late i might get online but then by that time everyone will hack pso2 like they did with psp2infinity.
so its dilemma.
but all with all when i play 3ds heroes of ruins(kinda like bards tale) but online. i forget vita.
but its always there.
its not vita tho that i love. i hate all non sega consoles handhelds. you know im an extremist. but if i wanna play sega games and good games mainly ill have to buy at least one handheld and one console.
-
i found myself being with the psvita in my hand again no kidding. i had to decide wether id buy 2 independent trucks for my skateboard and ne w handwraps for my thaiboxing. i bought ballprotectors. and i kinda gambled to buy size M you see i didnt wanna say i have a big size of my warrior.
so i went home and fit the ballprotector. and the damn thing is to small for my balls. now i dont want to say i hve big stash. but i brought it back and got my money back. and right next to it the store of games(the guy had hard times taking them back cause of the hygiene but thats another discussion)
so basically i went back to the game store. i got the vita and freaking bought it without thinking. cause thinking would lead me to having regrets. so the game i bought with it is assassins creed. not sonic cause i have that one on my ps3. it would be crazy to have the same game on all platforms. i went home with mixed feelings.
and this is where it starts to make sense that u cant judge such a thing untilll u have it.
the 3ds i played it badly resident evil revellations. it was really good. but when i look at the shelves i started to see that nintendo doesnt have that much games either. yes loads of marios. some dumb detective games. heroes of ruins(bards of tails alike with online co op. i wontsaay diablo cause that game is too good) basically my hots on ds are: resident evil rev heroes of ruins and sonic generations. the thing is we allready saw metal gear and splintr cell. nothing new there.
back to the vita
i unboxed it carefully like i wanted to bring it back if i dont like it. assassins creed on it and started to play. 1 hour
2 hours
3hours
4hours
without even knowing i was in the game. and enjoyed the 3d and seriously i had less headache then the 3ds 3d. and the annoyance whenever i bow the 3ds or put it differently n my hand i see the game double.
now maybe u will think im greedy. but i actually brought the vita back and got myself monkeyball of 3ds and got the rest of the money back.
i was really happy havin my money back. cause i saw how muchit was i gave.
but to give the vita at least some props. the controls are good.
and its bige and it should be big. dreamcast controls were also big that time. all dumb psx fans were dissing it but it was ergonomic and soon all consoles started to have bigger controls. the ps3 is still an exception.
so the bigness of vita is ergonomic.
the cons are still that it has only a view games
not to forget sony has been a loyal console cause all the consoles they had were supported for a very long time.
(i hate to say it. it hurts)
so if vita is selling bad we cant really say that much for now. it may end up like saturn making many games but not that much developers. or it will shock people that actually had the chance to risen up.
i loved playing assassins creed.
it was just as nice as playing resident evil revelations. they are both a different franchise so i cant say which game was better.
the only reason i brought it back cause i felt scared. and why cause all is so expensive. i wanna skateboard and fight. and we are not the richest.
kinda crazy cause i had swore i wouldnt buy it. and technically i didnt. kinda unfair. but i took one lesson from it. and i have but these 2 complains
1. Where are the freaking games mofos.
2. get the freaking price low or face the wrath of god for greediness
-
I rolled off laughing with your balls protection story ahahah
Your story reminds me of when I bought DJ Hero at launch price. I 100% the game in 2 days, so I simply brought it back to the store and got my money back. The unit itself wasn't registering some scratches correctly, which was hurting my combos, so I didn't feel too bad about it.
Where are the games mofos indeed.
-
Vita may have a companion with the Wii U soon.
-
Comparing the Vita and the Wii U in a hardware perspective, Sony really pushed ahead in pure product engineering as every component on the Vita is new leading to a higher price per unit built. That I can respect as they really raised the bar on handheld game systems.
Nintendo on the other hand has always did everything to keep costs down per unit since the days of the Gamecube where the hardware reached a profit margin per console sold (or handheld). It is why the Wii U has a resistive panel on the Wii U tablet controller as opposed to a capacitive display like a modern tablet or cell phone. The cost difference is major and the profit margin much higher.
Over many years a number of companies have sold consoles at a loss to recover the revenue in games. Early on both Nintendo and Sega did this and following along was Sony and Microsoft. The original Xbox was killing Microsoft as they had to pay for the Nvidia chipset and the PS2 as well for Sony. Sega had a long running history of using existing components when building a console to help regain ROI much faster (the Dreamcast was the only system to buck the trend).
Over the last few days I dug out my old N64 and was rather impressed how much R&D went into the system, the visuals certainly didn't age well in comparison to other systems of that era but innovation was still there. The first analog control on a console. Sega and Sony quickly jumped on board but until the Dual Shock was bundled with new systems and the Saturn stuck to it's Dpad guns until the 3D controller was released but few games used it.
Anyway, innovation involves cost for both the hardware design and eventually the consumer. Anyone who bought a first generation iPhone canvouch for this. You had to pay full retail for the phone and then open a service agreement with AT&T. Not cheap to do but people snatched them up like mad (including myself).
What I'm really saying is there is both a cost for the manufacturer and the consumer. The price is high on new tech but as time goes by, prices drop. If anyone here bought a first generation PS3, The price of admission was high but now as Sony made money on game sales and cost cutting measures, the price is now very reasonable. Eventually I see this happening with the Vita.

the graphics are so good that if it was a sexy girl id probably lick it like a chupa chups strawberry lollypop. but guess what it is getting cheaper allready.
the normal without the 3g is now 180 euros. well inc. 4 gb would be 190. so thats a big jump back :).
pitty tho i payed too much for my cars yearly turn. 1200 euro. my turbo was leaking and i needed new tyres
next month. just let that pso2 come
i dont have a proper pc to play that game so this is a good reason to have it
-
Here in Portugal you can get a 3G-Vita for 190euros with 4gb + game + 1 month free internet.
Yorn is making these super campaigns every few months.
-
I see a lot on Craigslist due to the high cost of ownership so most people want to trade them off for an iPod Touch. A questionable decision I'd say but trivial to me as I already have an iPhone anyway.
A majority of sellers are teens who just can't afford to buy games and buying second hand games comes at a price if you want trophies or to play online. You must purchase a new activation code which I think sucks but used game sales (the bread and butter of GameStop) curb sales of new games and stagnate budgets for all systems. EA started this trend which also sucks.
So in the end, in profit & loss reports, most losses are due to GameStop and the pushing of high profit on used games in turn while new product sits on shelves killing the developer as they make less ROI.
-
It always kills me how gamestop can sell a used game for $55.00, and they keep limited stock of new games so you have to pre-order them or settle for the 5$ discount on a used copy. They probably pay like $12.00 for it.

In light of the PSVita deals available now, and the awesome PS+ Vita service, I'm considering buying a PSVita in a question of months.
But, since money doesn't come cheap, I want to see what this new PSQuadruple is all about first.

just to bring it up.
psvita is still failing

psvita is still failing
Why beat a dead horse? I still enjoy mine and don't give a rats ass otherwise if its "failing" in opinionated fashion. In any case I've been playing my failed Dreamcast despite its age
-
We aren't discussing opinions. The system is effectively failing. And STILL there are no games coming out.
-
We aren't discussing opinions. The system is effectively failing. And STILL there are no games coming out.
Still beating a dead horse... I am enjoying what I have for it and slow releases have always been an issue with new consoles. Instead of only a handful of games, Nintendo did have a wide variety of games out for launch. Not everyone is going to buy every single game and whine about it (save for a few people here that I won't name...)
I remember how awful the PS2 launch was where the Dreamcast had the games and it took nearly a year for the PS2 to start getting a flow of decent games with few games that really showed the advantages and the power of the once high priced console. ICO was and is now a modern classic, the PS2 at the time was such a handful that for a playable frame rate, ICO was released and displayed in 240p as the lighting model and such were too much. Still, I had a blast with it.
This being a Sega based fan site I can expect Nintendo hate from the haters who refuse to look at anything from Nintendo in a positive form. I am however, a fan of all games and systems from the oldies to the new hardware. Even if they do have their problems (two RRoD Xbox 360 systems, my 3DO needs a new cd drive motor), much of my original collection was stolen and I'm building it back up.
I'm a gadget fan and despite the hate for the Vita and the Wii U here, I still see great potential in the right hands.
The problem I can see is right now, the Wii U is matching current systems in visuals at nearly three time the price. Average Joe Gamer obviously will grab a cheap Xbox for $99 and a couple games instead of the $349 for the Deluxe Wii system that is meant to play just games and not DVD's or BD's like the cheap looking excuse of the third revision PS3...
Back to the point, since current SKU's look nearly the same on all three systems, the Wii U is getting the short end of the stick, but on the bright side, great launch titles that current systems are nearly tapped out. Once the new generation of game systems is out, greater potential and games will be seen on all systems with exclusive titles for each. I'd love a next generation Road Rash game, one franchise EA has been sitting on for years now...
Nearly every console launch was a shaky start for any system. Regardless of the amount of money thrown into marketing or early releases when developers just were not ready to release.
Sega set a lot of fires with their third party support by jumping the gun with the Saturn but for its brief life, it turned out to be a great and very collectable game console despite the missteps and extremely bad start.
Nintendo will never give up on the home console market, regardless of the beatings in the past, the mistakes were publicly admitted at a E3 keynote years back. I doubt they are just going to give up like Sega had with the Dreamcast which could have held on longer if the company just controlled its budget.
So regardless of the silly hate, it isn't going to change my opinion on the Wii U which is a great set of well designed hardware. Expensive? Sure it is, but what game console isn't during launch? I'm sure there are a few here that sank money on a launch PS3 console and asking the same damn question for a while... "Where are the games"?
Neo Geo AES owners here or people who sank $700 and change for a 3DO? I know many fanatics that have and did have patience instead of panic over a game system they didn't even own.
-
I remember back in 2007 everyone mocking the PS3 as well. The console wasn't right. It took 2 price drops, a redesign a barrage of top-notch exclusive content to make it worthwhile and turn it into the best console this gen.
So yeah, I'm a fan of "all games and systems from the oldies to the new hardware" as well. But I don't support systems based on potential, not by buying them nor by praising them.
Both the WiiU and the Vita are awful investments right now. The first one is just a mindblowingly bad deal right now. And the second has no games.
There is nothing bad with buying them. Maybe you really love the new Mario game, or really want to play Uncharted on the go. That's OK.
But trying to defend that it's just a "slow start" and everything will be okay is not cool. The difference from a slow start and a wreck job is indistinguishable. What we have right now are the facts.
And the facts are that both consoles aren't selling. And both consoles are lacking games. (all "company hate" aside)
Maybe you just like the underdogs.
It may be true that the Vita will rise up, just like the PSP did. Or that a price drop will make the WiiU irresistible. But right now that isn't the case.
There is no need to justify your purchases every single GODDAMNED time someone mentions the Vita is going through rough times.
When I got a PSP 6 months before the EU launch (yeah I was hyped) I never felt the need to explain why I didn't go for the better, best selling, game filled DS. And the first months of the PSP were just as bad as the Vita's.
Can you please just try to discuss the current state of the Vita?
-

One, I haven't discussed anything on the Vita for quite some time. I landed a it for a good trade on Craigslist. The current state of it doesn't fucking concern me. Why do you want to know? I just despise blind hate people have for game consoles or cell phones (iPhone vs. Android... Ugh), many people go and preach their decision. I'm happy with what I have as it does what I need it to do, if my BlackBerry didn't break, I would have never bothered upgrading at all
I got my Vita with a 32GB card and a ton of extras for an old iPod touch I was never really using. Since you really want to fucking know why I like it is that most all my classic PSP, PS One and a few great games on the Vita all all in one device that I use far more often than the old iPod Touch. I had two iPods anyway so it was no real loss and I am a real gadget fan. Having MGS 2&3 was awesome, Uncharted is amazing, the the OLED display makes games great with absolute zero lag time.
I like it for what it is, a handheld gaming device that fits MY needs, if you can't handle that, call the hurt feelings police... Really... Haters be hatin'...
Secondly for the Wii U, I love new hardware and money to spend so to de-clutter my AV cabinet, it served two purposes. Played my virtual console games ranging from Genesis to Neo Geo, games I love on the Wii, and it's ready for the next console generation... I had the spare money to spend and wanted one, so after a week long decision, I went ahead and bought one. I like it and some of the bonuses it has and that's all that matters. Period...
The only two games from Nintendo I bought were the new SMB U and the Nintendo Land pack-in which I really don't care for, so that's up on Craigslist.
Finally if I wasn't a fan of the underdog, I wouldn't be here on a Sega related website now would I?
You sure take shit personal...
-
ok well let me put it like this .
this is the 14th month and still no good sells. even the wii u which is going bad as well didnt have such a miserable time. the psvita can be almost confirmed a flop.

and 14 months and japan maybe 15 and still nothing.
this is a serious flaw bro.
a lot of peeps trough out websites and forums consider purchasing a vita as a great expensive gamble
and the topics ull see on the sony community is basically:
when should i purchase vita?
cause they dont even dare.

You sure take shit personal...
You're the one taking it personal. Once AGAIN you are bothering in explaining you you bought the damned thing.
As I said before, there is nothing wrong in having fun with something. But that doesn't mean that it isn't going through trouble in the market. It is. And that is what we discuss in this thread. Why you always have to argue that everything's great because you can play 15yo games in new hardware is beyond me.
Another thing is your whole "you all haters I'm the true gamer" bullshit.
No one blindly hates Nintendo or Sony. If people here dislike those brands of hardware/software they have their own reasons. Having a personal opinion on what you like (or DON'T like) doesn't make you less of a gaming fan.
You feel like a sir for expressing how you love all consoles no matter how shit they are doing. That's okay. Just don't criticize others for having "blind hate" when you don't even consider why people dislike the products in the first place. Or worse yet, you ignore what reasoning others base their opinions on based on YOUR OWN personal opinions!
Right now, the Vita is a blunder. That is what is being discussed in this thread.
Good for you that you got a good deal out of it. But that doesn't mean the thing isn't a bust! Sony needs to act fast.
Also, Sega an underdog? I became a Sega fan in the MegaDrive days. Good luck trying to find someone who owned a Super Nintendo in Portugal.
Many of us are here because of Sega once being the dominant force in many places.

Japan stats:
The first Vita game on the top appears after FOUR PSP and SEVEN 3DS games.
As for hardware, the 3DS is outselling the Vita by 5 to 1.
(The WiiU is being outsold by the PS3. The portables are in control of the Japanese market)

You asked, I answered. There you have it...

I grew up playing those gems where creativity was key to success for a great system. On a second note, before I parted with my old Wii system, I wasn't going to let over $600 USD go with it in those games and independent titles go with it. I've been dealing with trying to reduce the amount of spaghetti attached to the back of my TV. Support for the original Wii is gone and plan on donating it to a nursing facility where Wii Sports is a excellent physical therapy tool for range of motion.
Another thing is your whole "you all haters I'm the true gamer" bullshit.

Your point being? There are many haters etc. I've dealt with for loving the SMS over the NES where here in the U.S., was a absolute dismal failure. It didn't make playing Phantasy Star any less fun but the arguments in grade school were a riot. Your perception of me is way off base and out of line but whatever tickles your taint.
You feel like a sir for expressing how you love all consoles no matter how shit they are doing. That's okay. Is that what a forum is for? Sharing opinions? Expressing the way I like something despite its marketing failures. Sony is far more devoted to PS4 right now. Any average person knows this. What I don't understand is the constant attack for liking something despite it being a failure or "uncool" etc.
Right now, the Vita is a blunder. That is what is being discussed in this thread.
Good for you that you got a good deal out of it. But that doesn't mean the thing isn't a bust! Sony needs to act fast.
Three pages of everyone saying the same thing and doing some sort of victory dance. Why not move on and be happy with what you have? I know Sony has made major mistakes in marketing the Vita so is it a sin for enjoying it for what it can do? Castlevania SOTN on the go is a win for me despite the larger problem at hand.
Also, Sega an underdog? I became a Sega fan in the MegaDrive days. Good luck trying to find someone who owned a Super Nintendo in Portugal.
Many of us are here because of Sega once being the dominant force in many places.
Sega did have some markets that the Mega Drive was a hit bit it wasn't worldwide throughout it's life. Japan still had the PC Engine as a dominant force throughout that console generation despite it not being marketed in the UK and trailing dead last in the U.S.A.
There were faithful fans of the system here though as it was popular among fans of shmups and the Ys series. It was expensive to have the complete system early on with the CD attachment costing $349 alone back in 1990. That didn't include the console which also had one controller port.
It was in far worse shape in the market if you were to compare it to the Vita, mainly due to the cost of ownership and having to buy a multitap accessory just to play multiple player games on it.
The Genesis released and I picked one up and enjoyed the shit out of Castle of Illusion and many other games. The Genesis here at launch did have some faithful ports of games from Capcom which gave it an edge and with Madden Football from EA, a monster was born with the first great American Football title. Once the SNES released, the schoolyard arguments started once again even while I was in high school.
Round and round we went, console wars never end... Back then it was about the games and colors and sprites and other technobabble that most had no real idea what they were talking about. Just some article from some random magazine.
The Super NES eventually took the lead while Sega had so much plugged into the Genesis to stay somewhat relevant but really. None of it really mattered. We all played what got our hands on as ports were now ammo for console battles... Street Fighter II was the real killer for the Genesis... If you wanted to play it at home, it was on the Super NES.
During that generation, I often refer it as the " Golden Age" of video gaming. Many of the best games of all time saw the light during that time on both the Genesis/Mega Drive as well as the Super NES which was home to some of the most memorable RPG's of all time. The Genesis had the best action titles bar none with Sonic (of course) and many others when Konami started producing for Sega and when Street Fighter II finally hit the Genesis with one of the best controllers ever, the six button arcade pad.
So many franchises for both systems were hard to forget and again, one main reason why I loved the Original Wii and being able to still play the greats without a dozen consoles hooked up for a quick fix of Streets Of Rage II or if I feel like hitting the wayback machine and playing Super Mario World or Legend of Zelda on the original NES. Nothing wrong with reliving the classics, I just refuse to use emulators on a PC... It's just not the same feeling.

ok well let me put it like this .
this is the 14th month and still no good sells. even the wii u which is going bad as well didnt have such a miserable time. the psvita can be almost confirmed a flop.

Semmie, I don't know why you bother jumping on the "hate Ungibbed" bandwagon. Is the cool thing to do or the right thing to do or are you here for quick and easy +1's...
As explained, I actually got the Vita complete in trade for one of my old iPods. A 32GB model IIRC, I know some folks are getting some jollies out of this but I enjoy the Vita for what it is (and does) for ME, that's all that matters. Why that bothers some of you is beyond me. Between mobile and tablet gaming where high profit margin is for many companies, I still prefer the traditional handheld as it can deliver a richer experience better than a phone ever will. I still love my Legend Of Zelda limited edition 3DS just as much as anything else I have in my collection.
TBH though, after upgrading my phone (not going to bother saying what it is, don't need phone wars now do we?) I've been simply enjoying a bit of Sonic CD.

its what u enjoy of it.
if you love a woman but others dont find her the real deal. but u love her in your heart so u dont care.
at this point i never had something against your having pleasure with the vita. surely as even i admit in essence the handheld is the better of the 2 but 3ds is the goliath and maybe the vita is david that throws a stone to goliaths head sudden death.
but i think thats not gonna happen.
but then again im cool with u and i respect u being an all around game player LOL
i play loads of games but sega is 1
i learned to respect that of u:)
but when speaking about vita in sails;. they are losing badly

I understand your point, and enjoyed your life story.
I just don't think you understand mine. But whatever.. I think it's unfair for you to go around calling people who don't like something a hater.
There is also no "victory dance". Most of us have already discussed what should be done to turn the Vita into a successful portable.
I'm no "hater", though your perception of me by this point must be distorted.
I've been playing both Nintendo and Sony consoles way before Sega went out of the hardware market. Hell, I have a hard time justifying being a Sega fan since in the late 90s I had a PS1+GBC combo (like most of my friends).
And no one hates on you for having a Vita and a WiiU.
But, on purpose or not, every time someone mentions how bad they are doing or that the features seem pointless for them you come in like the One Prophet of Gaming, Savior of the Underdog Hardware justifying over and over why they are actually good for you and hence should be selling like hotcakes.
As I said before, I am in the market for a portable system, and I have actually taken your opinion into consideration believe it or not (your wild devotion for defending the Vita is remarkably preachy).
I find confusing that you say multiple times that you hate fanboys, but you act like a fanboy in regard to these underperforming consoles.
No one hates you, stop playing victim. Go play some games.

You are one of them "just gotta get that last jab in" kind of folks I've seen on many forums.
Never have I stepped on a soapbox and "preached" in any manner at all. Call it what you will but I do enjoy sharing my honest impressions of new hardware regardless of what it may be. You are largely mistaken on that part. You wanted to bring up the past, I know it. I worked for Sega for a number of years and enjoyed every fucking moment of it.
Your jab "telling my life story" really shows your ignorance or you're one of two things. A very impatient person or one who loves to take bits of a post out of context and go hog wild on it...
Step off your soapbox and stop making a fool of yourself still looking for more dead horses to beat. I know what's going on in the marketing scene...
The big question is do I give a fuck about sales numbers. The short answer for you is no! It's about enjoying these systems for what they are and can do.
Rinse and repeat.... *sigh*

Thank you captain obvious. I don't give a shit if sales have been slow and game releases as well. I have more than plenty of games to keep me busy. What it all comes down to is of I enjoy what I have. That is what matters to me.
If people need help asking the public if they should buy something or not be it a game system, a computer or smartphone. If they are unable to decide for themselves, shame on them for lacking the ability to read and decide what suits their tastes or needs. I call them lemmings...
-
Actually, the "life story" bit wasn't a jab at all. I was being honest, and anyone here can confirm you that if there's one thing I don't do is mock other people's experiences in life.
I think this blows up most of your argument tho..
Only real question here is: if you don't give a fuck about sales numbers, then what the bloody hell are you doing in a thread about SALES NUMBERS??
Have you not yet figured out that the most bothering thing isn't what you think of the console (your opinion is just as valid as any other's, and that's cool) but the fact that you're constantly shouting it around in the wrong thread?
And THE most aggravating thing of them all, is the you are CONSTANTLY taking me for granted as a complete imbecile! That is not only disrespectful but also poisonous for any kind of discussion!
If you really think I'm some kind of stereotypical forum troll type you're not only dead wrong, but you have a serious problem of judging other people for things other than what they actually are.
Go on, have the fucking last jab and win your stupid argument, the fuck do I care.
It's a chore arguing with someone that actually believes their "hating of haters" makes them any better than the average fanboy.
I'm done. My reply to any of your retorts is bolded out in this post.

Also, you are being terribly rude to semmie as well and he isn't even arguing with you.

Hopefully in the last line putting an end to this thread that has been a attack on me for the past day or two but then again, there you go again, having to get in the last word.
Why don't you play some Sonic or something. All the emails I've gotten this morning have been you arguing with me. I came in here being curious, I have the same right to post as you. You don't even have a Vita, why are you here?
Victory dance of some kind?
Sheesh

The Vita beat the 3DS for one week.
I was pretty shocked that it happened, but it goes to show you that Sony DOES have the potential to sell the thing if they try hard enough.
I enjoy my Vita, but if companies don't think investing games on the thing is worth it then...tough luck. :\

it is considered a big gamble. but if it only took 200 games a year or even 100 it would be areason to purchase and ofcourse loyal online servers. but thats not the case
and that is why the sony community themself dont even purchase it.
the question there is. when can i purchase it

I've seen this before. Someone at another forum I visit called it "subliminal advertising" even though it's nothing like it:
"1: I decide to get a PS3 new because it comes free with "Uncharted 3" and "Dust" (I don't play "Dust", but that's okay).
2: I noticed I get 1 month free trail of PS+.
3: I get a ton of free games through PS+, including "Spec Ops" and "Darksiders".
4: I notice that I have to maintain a PS+ membership to continue playing the games, but its only $18 for 3 months. Great price for what I'm getting.
5: I notice that some of the games are no longer free, so I download the files for the PSP and Vita titles that are still free while I can.
6: Now I'm planning my purchase of a Vita (which I can get with more free months of PS+)."
-
The PS+ and Vita combination would be fantastic we're it not for the Vita's memory problem.
-
Sony's biggest mistake is not putting the PS2 Store on the VIta.
I can see at least some peopl;e buying the Vita as a portable PS2 in the meantime when trhe Vita's game launches are scarce...
I wanted to get a few PS2 games on it myself, but Sony say that they can't do that.

I can only think that reason being is some if the size of some PS2 title vs. the expensive memory cards and the largest being 32GB for the Vita. I dislike Sony as they always use alternate proprietary storage that is of course, expensive as hell. The largest game I have stored on my 32GB card is the Metal Gear Collection which is rather close to the capacity of a single layer DVD. I don't know if these games are emulated partially or a complete code rewrite since the use of the touch screen and other changes such as as newer compression technology. The download weighs in at 3.2 GB after install.
I know many PS2 games don't use the full capacity of the DVD, but I imagine despite that, it would be awesome. Especially if hard to find games were made portable.
I'd love to relive Kingdom Hearts on the go and the Vita should be able to emulate it just fine. The size of such games would stack up pretty quick and you can't swap cards on the fly since your PSN account is stored on the card itself.
This is one part where Nintendo made a smart move sticking with SD cards on not only the 3DS but the Wii U as well for more storage. A long running and inexpensive storage medium.
-
Not only does Nintendo use SD cards on their consoles, but the file size limit is much higher as well.
I really don't get this move from Sony. With the PSP they used MemorySticks....ok it was the main format in Sony products, it makes sense. But with the Vita they use something that isn't usable anywhere else.
Greedy and shortsighted move.
-

I think more or less this wasn't a greed move but a somewhat expensive step to curb software piracy which is rampant on the PSP. I see tons of hacked PSP's for sale at elevated prices for copied games. So I can see Sony wanting to not only protect their software from piracy but third party developers as well.
That is the only logic I can make of it.
-
piracy is a well serious issue indeed. they say its just one percent that does it. but honestly we all here pirate some of the things. but psp was the largest being pirated so. but too strict is never a good idea.
the 3DS issnt pirated as well is cheap. i gotta admit graphics are not all that, but everyone will telll u good story about resident evil revelations zelda power of illusion etc. or even the new castlevania which i havent played yet
-
How does having expensive memory solutions stops piracy at all? So people won't have space for pirating things? People don't even have space for bought games!
-

i think the encryption of the psvita memorycard makes it harder to pirate. u have to hack the psvita and after that you need to decrypt the memorycard thats twice the obstacle. also everygame of the vita is identical to itself alone. u can play assassins creed pirated for example but the other copy has a whole different code. i dont have knowledge of this i only say what i once red on the pspiso site from hackers.
but ofcourse for everything there is a way always;)
but to prove the point the memory card is also an obstacle cause it is encrypted. only for use with vita
but the size dont matter ;)
it would be awesome if someone hacks the vita to use any other memory card then sony :) and someone who can hack the memory limit.
honestly sometimes hacking is considered in my eyes as freedom.
the 3ds however gives me the feeling that i dont have to hack it. im a proud owner of 13 boxed 3ds games and 1ds which is sonic collection

It's certainly an issue, but as long as I keep my saves should I delete the game for space (like I did on my Wii), it should be fine to swap out games for other games with the saves intact (they barely make up the 8MB that they were designed for.
Best if they had PS2 games available rather then only PSP/PS1 games (as great as they are, they don't have the library of the PS2).
@semmie: The 3DS is region locked though...which sucks for Europeans who can't get ATLUS games in a timely fashion....at least the Vita is Region Free.

I don't disagree with you, I'd love to have some of the PS2 games brought back in download media. I shuffled a few PSP games around and my saves were left intact just as the PSOne games.
The Vita certainly has the power to run a PS2 game even if modified for the Vita to use the touch screen for L3 and R3 and the rear touch panel for L2 and R2 as its done the the MGS collection.
On the 5 inch screen the games still look great between MGS2 and the amazing visuals of MGS3. My annoyance factor is Sony is not allowing all PSOne games to be played on the Vita when the same digital copies could be played on a vanilla stock PSP... Still Xenogears and a few others run perfectly. If I want my R-Type Delta fix, the Vita does not deliver.
That I find annoying.

do u think there is a possibility in the future that it will be slimmer?
since the vita sells so low, why would they bother they make it slimmer?would it be asking for more fails? or would it make peeps think like ah ok its cheaper n slimmer lets do this

Vita is already slim as the PSP slim. I don't see how you could make it much slimmer.

The PSPGo is waay slimmer. And it's the best PSP by far (for pirating that is).

never say never
thin like an a4 paper
but i mean slim is cool. but any advancement to a newer version of the psvita. honestly with these low sails i dont see it coming.
the tcrucial verdictwould be if ps4 does bad as well
and id like to believe that sega comes where sony starts to cry

There is a lot more physical hardware in the Vita. The largest being the battery itself. Much like the early 3DS which has a ridiculous life span till the next recharge is needed. My old DS Lite has really spoiled me in terms of use per charge.
Oddly enough thinking as the 3DS isn't pushing as much hardware and multiple graphics cores, the charge light of doom sure comes up far sooner than I ever expected. At least both handhelds manage to outlast my old Samsung Galaxy S3 per charge.
-
so u see there is always space for improvement

I'm not blind, for everything we use on a daily basis has room for improvement. My iPhone 5 lacks a real HD screen, but it's still comfortable to use. My Mac was expensive as hell but being a notebook upgraded to its limits, there's always room for more. I filled the entire 64GB storage on my iPad yet refuse to upgrade till it dies.
My eyesight could be better as I hate putting on my reading glasses. Bought a new car and didn't get a full tank of gas (those cheap bastards). I want many of the Saturn games to be revived but many have been forgotten or just not a match that jives well with modern hardware.
Everything has room for improvement. The 3DS could have used a higher resolution lower display 640x480 would have looked far better than the current resolution.

Powerful hardware sucks up battery life. Only reason the DS didn't suck battery life is because it wasn't super powerful. Once you start displaying 3D graphics you're going to suck up battery life really fast. The only way to improve battery life is to make low voltage hardware, like some laptops have. Battery technology hasn't improved in ages, and it doesn't seem like it's going to improve anytime soon, so it's down to hardware makers to decide if they want to go with low voltage parts or more power for less battery life.

Then why does my 3DS have a shorter life span per charge than the Vita? Answer, all about cost...
Don't get me started on the old DC VMU... I used to buy CR-2032 cells in bulk.

Vita has a much bigger battery then the 3DS, which makes sense, since it is much more powerful, so it really eats through the power.
3DS: 1300 mAh lithium-ion battery, lasting 3 to 5 hours
Vita: 2200 mAh[9], rated at 3-5 hours

I know this. Nintendo could have done much better but clearly, they decided not to do so. Hated getting the "charge me or die" red LED on the 3DS...
Even worse when you get the charge light of doom on the Wii U gamepad/tablet, they are not kidding around. Extended sessions really require the Pro Controller which lives up to it's 80 hours of use before needing charged.
Many cell phones have better battery life... Including Android based battery killers.

just in between i had that issue to. nowadays there is amod that u can even charge the vmu without putting out the c3032 out. ofcourse you need to change the crystal inside the vmu and put a rechaergable c3032 and add a cabme from above with usb to the plug :)
i find itstrange that the battery life didnt really improve and since we are offtopic anyways. concerning the improvement of battery life the iphone 3GS is better then 4 and 4s i dont know about 5 tho
with stuff like vita its good to have a car charger
and home charger
ofcourse train u can play and it is fine. its not like the vita goes of to soon. it is durable right?

Well, there is a reason behind the 3DS costing over 100euros less than a Vita.
Also, the XL model has a larger battery that lasts longer (decent battery life really..)

yeah mine took a good day with back to back playing heroes of ruins on my 3DSXL

turning off wifi and keeping brightness level lowest seems to keep the 3DS battery working longer for me. It drains so fast compared to the Vita it seems if you keep Wifi on. I can get a good few hours or so out of Vita with Wifi on, but not with 3DS.
also, if you want to save battery, don't turn on 3D either. that really eats the battery away.
-
The Vita is a beast when it comes to Sleep mode.
I once left it on for two weeks and STILL had 60% charge left.
I heard the new Firmware breaks it though. :\

Which one has better battery life, the WiFi Vita or the 3DS XL
-
I think they're about the same...but the 3DS just edges the Vita out.

The PSVita: doing so badly that even Sony themselves can't be bothered to release a solid version of Ratchet and Clank Qforce/Full Frontal Assault:

This also runs at 10-20 fps half the time. This is one of the worst ports I have ever played.
It's too bad because I was actually looking forward to having a portable version of this game.
-

The XL edges out the Wi-Fi Vita. It's kind of hard to tell just by how much, even though I have the both of them. I'm having to charge the Vita more than my XL is all I can really say (and I play the Vita less).
As for the Full Frontal Assault Port...that's so bad that it's gone past being funny to being just plain awful. It's like they really don't care anymore.
-
I never bothered getting R&C on the Vita. Who did the port? The MGS collection is top notch.
-

A developer with no background called Tin Giant. Insomniac had no involvement in it apparently.
-
Either Insomniac is very low on resources working on PS4 or it was decided as a very low priority "budget" decision. Either way, that was a bad decision. Not only making Sony and the Vita look bad, but also Insomniac letting such a key IP go to a smaller (and unknown) developer.
I could only imagine if Konami outsourced the MGS ports to the Vita as well as the PS3. The backlash from MGS fans everywhere would be outside the offices with torches and pitchforks.
It's a crying shame. If the Jak trilogy gets botched like that (beautiful in full 1080 on PS3) and sub 60fps on the Vita, more of my gaming dollars set aside for handhelds will go to Luigi's Mansion along with upgrading to a XL model.
The sharp edges get uncomfortable after a good session of Nano Assault which may be a launch title for the 3DS, but kept its 60 FPS beauty with only minimal stutter.
Or my cash going to the eShop for more tables in Zen Pinball on the Wii U. I have Zen Pinball for the 3DS but the low resolution and somewhat low refresh rate made it a bad impulse buy on the 3DS.
Have you considered the Chase McCain Lego game on the 3DS? That is on my acquire list regardless if I upgrade to a XL model or not. After playing the Wii U version of the same title, they have a different storyline and I was rather surprised that Tt (Travelers Tales) made a decent game not relying on a movie tie in for sales. It's no "Grand Theft Lego" but a humorous take on many police shows and some movie gags tied in.
Just been working so much I haven't had much time for gaming or to even stop by the forums.
-
I always thought the sharp edges were terribly uncomfortable as well. The XL deals with that.
When I think about it, the OG 3ds kind of sucks
-
I've only hung onto my original model since it's the so called limited edition model yet during my last trip to Gamestop, there were two used versions of the same model.
So it's much less limited and the last hype BS I buy into. Ever.
-
I use this Mario Kart 7 wheel on my 3DS at all times, it works pretty well as a grip.
Also, the Ratchet and Clank Qforce Vita port was outsourced.
-
I'm getting a 3DS XL.
After some thinking and research, although both the XL and the Vita cost about the same, nothing really stands out on the Vita. It feels like it's just PS3 games on a smaller screen.
I'm waiting for E3 tho, but I doubt anything will change my mind at this point.
-
I still have my Vita which I plan on keeping as I have three generations of my favorite games on the original PlayStation and the Ys games for the PSP and a few others and finally games for the Vita itself. My 3DS need more love as it hasn't seen much play except when playing LoZ:OOT 3D and Starfox. I still occasionally frustrate myself with Nano Assault which does wonders at kicking my ass.
Honestly, the portable game I've been playing the most is on my iPhone. The Pinball HD series of games from Gameprom. Having a Slayer Pinball table is just awesomesause to me complete with soundtrack. That and the vertical display of the iPhone just feels natural. The game absolutely screams on the iPhone 5 and the 4S before it. For Android owners, it's a Nvidia Tegra exclusive which really sucks. This game deserves more!
I want a Sega themed Pinball game now. Not Sonic Spinball, some cool hardware based table such as playing inside a Sega Saturn or other hardware.
I'd buy it and possibly kill my battery with a non stop session!
-
So I guess the Zelda 3DS is like, rare. So I will sell it, get extra cash and upgrade to a XL.
WOOT.
-
Oh yeah, that's a collector's edition so it should be worth a nice amount.
-

The two I've seen for sale around a month ago were going for the same used price as a standard small screen 3DS. I love the looks and all of mine but also disappointed as it seemed to be early sales hype by GameStop for Christmas holiday sales. To me, I liked the look and LoZ:OOT 3D as a pack in made for a fine deal.
The other was a all red Super Mario themed 3DS with Super Mario 3D Land.
The Zelda units sold out fast as the black and gold looked really class (and still does) but I'd love a XL update to the Legend Of Zelda package. Still have my original box and such, just hurts my hands after a while with the sharp edges/corners.
I think with a Sega Partnership, a Game Gear themed 3DS XL would be worth a instant sale especially if Nintendo can convince Sega for to produce AAA class Sonic title or a collection that includes Sonic Adventure. (Dreamcast themed 3DS XL oh fuck yeah!)

my bad

Vita jumps in Japan, stays lousy everywhere else.
Also check out the WiiU. Amazing.

Some people get a hard on for sales numbers as if they owned stock in the companies themselves. I never understood why people obsess over NPD numbers, to feel secure about the product they've chosen or to add fuel to the fire.
I'm happy with what I got, and it's already a ton of current gen systems and games. On IGN, when someone posts it, the flames always stir up. I sit back and watch spitball fights and I'm quite sure the NPD numbers were used to bait many Dreamcast owners...
-
Do you REALLY sit back? It's just that every time I post numbers you say something of the like lol
This thread is about the Vita sales being weak in Japan. I just wanted to show that last week they were pretty reasonable. The problem is the other markets. How the hell is the PSP selling more than the Vita in Europe?
It's depressing to see the Vita selling 5 times less than the 3DS though.. Maybe E3 will change that?

This is the first time I've seen YOU post NPD records. Had you a bit better reading comprehension, you might have noticed the part where I had typed "on IGN..."
Yet another knee jerk reaction as the selective out of context replies I get here more often than not...
Anyways, to answer your reply...
That may change in the future as Sony is making all PS4 games playable on the Vita ala second screen gaming (last second Wii U competitive bullet point). How that holds up remains to be seen.
Sony will keep making old hardware if it keeps selling. Take the PS2 for example, now when the PS4 releases. The new cheap to produce PS3 will see the same as Sony figures out ways to make it cheaper and cheaper to build till it stops selling.
No idea yet if the Xbox 360 will see the guillotine like the original did upon release of the Xbox One (I almost feel a flop coming on for Microsoft. Things did not bode well after the unveil of the hardware. Sony may see a big win but that is yet to be seen till the PS4 unveil. Let alone pricing for both of them. The Wii U itself is a considerable investment for the deluxe model at $349.99 and if you buy digital downloads, a USB hard drive is recommend or SSD.
Now E3 will tell all. I had hoped for an exclusive partnership with Nintendo which would make things rather interesting. A couple of possibly half baked Sonic games doesn't really excite me but will have to do.
-
Geez, talk about replying with knife on hand ;) I have in fact posted some sales figures before. Don't remember if in this thread or the WiiU one though.
So you're betting Vita's success mainly on the running PS4 games thing? Personally while it's a cool feature (and useful) I doubt it's going to be a game changer. The PS4 userbase will be very small at first. When it reaches the point where it makes a difference, the Vita will already be too old.
This is my take on it tho..
(on the home console side, a WiiU price drop is inevitable. Predictions are that the PS4 is coming out @ less than 400 bucks)

Knife in hand? How cute. You really love taking things out of context since nearly every reply to you I've had to spell out in mind blowing detail to keep you from jumping to conclusions.
Where did I say that the the PS4 will be the one all feature to the Vitas success? It's a fucking feature added and mandated by Sony to promote sales and another tactic to sell systems. Way to blow something out of proportion. Learn to fuckin' read before spouting off with what you assume to be what I've posted. When I have to spell it out for you in length, you get annoyed and piss and moan about it. When I get down and simple you selectively read out of context assuming that your reply must be absolutely what I've said.
Take some remedial English courses as you are becoming quite annoying (or that's your intention to begin with) learn to READ then reply with a bit of logic. I know it may be hard for you but at least try FFS...

aww
come on guys, relax. There is no need to be up each others throats.
I understand it's easy to get passionate and emotionally invested about something you love, I know that all too well, but at the same time you need to control and keep yourself composed. You can't go off exploding at members because someone doesn't agree with you on something.
Consider this a friendly reminder to control yourself, if there is anymore outbursts like just happened the SEGAbits staff will have to take action.
Thank you :)
you may now resume the discussion you guys were having.

Will, this topic has just gone on for too long. What I don't understand is why people stoke the fire over and over again. I enjoy what I have and always having my judgement questioned and my words twisted is just too much hence why I finally had enough. New systems on the horizon and fanboy rivalry will always exist here (your sig for example) but I'm not a big Mario Kart fan either but it was a college dorm classic along with Saturn Bomberman.
I love new hardware and study some to an extent to where I may start building a game for the iPhone and get hate mail from Android users. When explaining with logic to the best I can on that, even then my words get twisted and misunderstood by people who can't handle a fact or statement until near bloodshed.
People will always misunderstand others but provoke others I will never understand.
-
I suppose you are right about this topic going on too long. I'll just lock it then.
If anyone has anything about the Vita they want to discuss, go ahead and create a new topic for it. Now that ungibbed mentioned it, i agree. I mean, the person who created this topic doesn't even post here anymore. heh :P

Will is just finding reasons to lock semmie created topics. :(
